Galaxy Studios: The Ultimate Experience of Connectivity

Located in some of the most iconic places around the world, Galaxy Studios transport visitors to a one-stop experience of mobile connectivity, where they can try out Samsung’s latest devices such as the Galaxy S8 and S8+, Gear VR with Controller and Gear 360. Furthermore, unique opportunities such as filming with a 360-degree camera or playing a virtual game of tennis enable participants to step out of their daily surroundings and into a world of cutting-edge technology.

An Expanding Network

Having attracted more than 858,741* visitors in locations such as the Westfield Parramatta in Sydney, Stockholm Central Station, the Dubai Mall, Hong Kong’s Excelsior Plaza and, most recently, American locales such as Chicago’s Navy Pier, Samsung’s Galaxy Studios are continuously expanding to all corners of the world.

Hands-On with the Galaxy S8

Among the Galaxy Studios’ highlights include experiences surrounding the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
Many visitors have particularly enjoyed the Liquid Canvas experience, in which their selfie is recreated underwater in ink, oil or liquid dye as the Galaxy S8 is moved over a ‘Liquid Canvas.’ The activity also showcases the benefits of the phone’s IP68 water and dust resistance.
At other Galaxy Studios, guests can explore the various key features of the Galaxy S8 by placing the device on an interactive smart table.
The table connects with the Galaxy S8 via Wi-Fi and acts as a second screen, giving viewers an immersive view of the bezel-less Infinity Display and crisp, clear photos made possible by the phone’s Smart Auto Focus and multi-frame image processing. Visitors can also see Bixby, Samsung’s intelligent interface, in action as it interprets information from users’ surroundings and shares tips from where to grab a cup of coffee to how to get to the closest gym.
The table also features Samsung Connect, a smart home network that connects the Galaxy S8 with appliances and other devices to simplify day-to-day tasks, and showcases content from the Gear 360 and Gear VR.

Mesmerizing 360-Degree Experiences

At select Galaxy Studios, visitors can witness firsthand the amazing capabilities of the Gear 360, Samsung’s 4K resolution-capable 360-degree camera. By stepping into a cylindrical room illuminated by captivating lights and patterns, they can capture every angle of their experience in 360 degrees with the Gear 360 and then share it with their friends.

Gear Up

Many of the Galaxy Studios allow visitors to transport themselves to virtual worlds. For example, a 4D theater powered by the Gear VR with Controller allows them to engage in a space battle or perform stunning aircraft stunts, all while sitting in a chair.

Fun and Fitness

But not all of the Galaxy Studios are entirely about play. In fact, at the Galaxy Fitness stations, guests might just work up a sweat. Here, they can strap on a Gear S3 and play a virtual game of tennis or go ‘swimming.’ Kinetic sensors detect the players’ movements for a fun and interactive experience, while the Gear S3 tracks their activity and heart rate.

The Best in Design Concept

The Galaxy Studio has made a splash not only with its engaging tech experiences, but also with its sophisticated Galaxy Studio Design Toolkit, which delivers a simple but alluring invitation to potential visitors.
On July 11, the Galaxy Studio Design Toolkit was selected as a recipient of the Red Dot Award: Best of the Best in Design Concept, which recognizes groundbreaking designs for prototypes and ready-to-launch products. The Red Dot Design Award received a total of 4,724 entries this year, and 43 pieces were recognized with the Best of the Best award. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 18 in Singapore.
Galaxy Studios invite visitors to explore a world of mobile connectivity, bringing to the forefront Samsung’s latest technologies and all the possibilities they hold.

Samsung Invents a Note Smartphone with a Stylus that Bends within its Housing to act as both a Mic & Breathalyzer

Samsung has invented a smartphone with a built-in breathalyzer. The smartphone has a 'gas sensor' that extends out from the phone and doubles as a phone microphone. Samsung's patent filing states that "The gas sensor portion may include a sensor module that analyzes the exhalation, a short-range transceiver unit that transmits data measured by the sensor module to the device main body, a sensor battery that supplies an electric power to the sensor module and the short-range transceiver unit, and a housing that receives the sensor module, the short-range transceiver unit, and the sensor battery, the housing rotatably connected to the moving body." Later in the patent Samsung says that the breathalyzer could be a part of a future stylus thus making the smartphone a part of the Note smartphone family.
Samsung's patent FIG. 1 below is a perspective view illustrating a portable device having an exhalation sensing function.
Samsung's patent FIG. 13 below illustrates a perspective view illustrating a state in which a gas detector projects when a user makes a call using a portable device having an exhalation sensing function; FIG. 14 is a view illustrating an exhalation sensing function selection screen of a portable device having an exhalation sensing function.
Samsung's patent FIG. 15 below is a view illustrating a state in which a user performs a precision measurement using a gas detector of a portable device having an exhalation sensing function; FIG. 16 is a view illustrating a sound waveform generated in a microphone of a gas detector of a portable device having an exhalation sensing function according to an embodiment of the present disclosure when a user blows breath out.
This possible futures smartphone may be a Samsung Note design because the filing noted that "A space may be provided inside the moving body #110. Accordingly, components for performing different functions may be disposed inside the moving body. For example, the moving body may be implemented to function as a stylus pen, a thermometer, etc.
With tickets for drinking and driving climbing every year, adult consumers just might find the built-in breathalyzer a very handy feature to have in their smartphone. And considering that Samsung calls it a gas sensor, it may be at some point in time able to analyze other substances a user has on their breath.
Samsung's patent was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in July 2017 and originally filed in June 2016.

Samsung Display.

(LEAD) Samsung executive gets fattest paycheck in 1st half

Kwon Oh-hyun, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co., was the country's highest-paid corporate executive, receiving some 14 billion won (US$12.3 million) in the first half of the year, and is once again to become the top wage-earner this year, data showed on Monday.
According to the semi-annual business report compiled by Samsung, Kwon received a paycheck totaling 13.9 billion won in the first six months of the year, a whopping increase from 2.9 billion won a year earlier.
Kwon, who is in charge of Samsung's semiconductor and display unit, has been the country's most paid corporate executive for second straight year with his earnings being tallied at 6.7 billion won in 2016 and 14.95 billion won in 2015.
His income includes a one-time special bonus worth 8 billion won as the unit posted record earnings in the January-June period.
Suh Kyung-bae, the president of AmorePacific Corp., the No. 1 cosmetics maker, came second with a salary of 9.64 billion won, according to its semi-annual business report.
Yoon Boo-keun, a Samsung Electronics president who leads the tech giant's consumer electronics business unit, came in third, receiving some 5.1 billion won. Shin Jong-kyun, who heads Samsung's IT & Mobile Communications Division, ranked fourth with 5 billion won, Samsung's business report showed.
Chung Mong-koo, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group whose affiliates include Hyundai Motor Co., was paid some 4 billion won, while Chey Tae-won, chairman of energy and telecom conglomerate SK Group, received a 1 billion won in the first half of the year
In South Korea, companies are required to release the salary information of executives who earn more than 500 million won a year if they are members of the board of directors.
The law took effect in November 2013 to enhance corporate transparency, in line with a global trend as most advanced economies require companies to make their executives' pay packages public.
