Samsung готовит к выпуску улучшенную версию VR-гарнитуры Odyssey

В прошлом году Samsung наделал много шума, представив лучшие на тот момент очки виртуальной реальности под названием HMD Odyssey. Анонс состоялся на спецмероприятии компании Microsoft, поскольку новая VR-гарнитура от южнокорейского электронного гиганта поддерживает платформу Windows Mixed Reality. Теперь, как сообщается, Федеральная комиссия США по связи (FCC) сертифицировала модификацию этого устройства, получившего название Odyssey+ (модельный номер XE800ZBA).
Главными отличительными особенностями новинки станут гарантированная поддержка ещё одной программной VR-платформы SteamVR, а также улучшенная эргономика.
Судя по приведённой на сайте FCC иллюстрации и описанию, увеличена площадь контакта с носом, что повышает комфорт и уменьшает риск запотевания оптической системы. При этом размеры и разрешение дисплеев остались прежними — в гарнитуре установлено две матрицы размером 3,5 дюйма и разрешением 1600x1440 пикселей. Гарнитура обеспечивает угол обзора 110°.
В описании упоминается технология AMOLED + SFS, но пока неизвестно, что это означает на практике.
Документация также указывает на поддержку соединений через HDMI, USB и Blootooth, а информационная этикетка свидетельствует, что производятся эти гарнитуры на одном из китайских предприятий Samsung.
Точная дата появления Odyssey+ в продаже пока неизвестна.

Samsung has been present in the mobile VR space for a while now with its Gear lineup of headsets. Last year, the Chaebol entered the PC VR industry with the launch of the HMD Odyssey, which comes with full support for Microsoft’s Mixed Reality platform. Now, an upgraded variant of the headset – the Odyssey+ has been spotted on the certification agency FCC’s website. The listing reveals several key specs of the new accessory.
According to the FCC listing, the Samsung Odyssey+ bears a model number XE800ZBA, which is almost identical to that of the Odyssey (XE800ZAA). This indicates that the new headset might have received minor upgrades over its predecessor. The representative image in the FCC document reveals a slightly bigger nose contact area, ensuring a more comfortable wearing experience. The listing also mentions ‘Wider Eye box, Wider Part of Nose, Anti-fog’, which suggests it will have a better viewing area and reduced lens fogging due to bigger nose part. However, nothing much seems to have changed on the technical front. The Odyssey+ is tipped to offer 3.5-inch AMOLED panel with a screen resolution of 1,600 x 1,440 pixels for each eye and a 110-degree field of view.
Further, the listing mentions that the upcoming headset will feature a technology called “AMOLED + SFS”. However, it’s not known at the moment what SFS stands for. Another interesting addition comes in the form of native compatibility for SteamVR. The FCC listing mentions support for both Windows Mixed Reality and SteamVR platforms. This means that the upgraded Odyssey+ will be able to play SteamVR games right away without having to rely on Windows platform. The FCC listing also reveals AKG tuned audio, HDMI, USB and Bluetooth.

В рамках специального мероприятия Windows Mixed Reality в Нью-Йорке Samsung  и Microsoft официально представили гарнитуру Windows Mixed Reality, о которой в последние дни распространилось много слухов. 
Гарнитура Samsung HMD Odyssey обойдётся покупателям в $499. Это самый дорогой гаджет Windows Mixed Reality на фоне конкурентов в лице Acer ($299), HP ($329), Dell и Lenovo (оба предлагают свои изделия по цене $349).
Однако Samsung предлагает более премиальное решение с топовыми характеристиками, в том числе встроенные наушники AKG, которые обеспечивают высокое качество звука. Разумеется, гаджет получил отличный фирменный AMOLED-дисплей с разрешением 2880x1600 пикселей (это больше, чем у конкурентов) и частотой обновления 90 Гц. 
Новая гарнитура Samsung Odyssey доступна для предзаказов с 3 октября, а поставки начнутся с 6 ноября. До конца года девайс будет доступен в ограниченном числе стран (Южная Корея, США, Китай, Бразилия, Гонконг). О дате начала продаж в России пока ничего неизвестно.

When it comes to sound, the Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with 360° Spatial Sound, providing users with complete surround sound, through premium built-in AKG headphones.
Users can also talk with other gamers, without having to remove the headset, using the fitted array mic.

The Windows Mixed Reality experience with the Samsung HMD Odyssey has been designed to give users the very best experience right out of the box. Unlike typical head-mounted displays, you do not need to install any extra motion sensors – simply connect to your PC and get started. With inside-out position tracking, users are not restricted to a limited space during their virtual reality experience.
For a more immersive experience, Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with a Six Degrees of Freedom1 (6 DOF) sensor allowing for intuitive and natural movements.
With an adjustable control wheel, the Samsung HMD Odyssey is designed to provide a comfortable and snug fit.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with integrated AKG headphones and array mics for voice commands, as well as two motion controllers. The Samsung HMD Odyssey will be available later this year in the US, China, Korea, Brazil and Hong Kong, with pre-orders beginning in the US only on October 3rd.
