Samsung Germany объявляет о начале программы публичного тестирования фирменного платёжного сервиса на территории ФРГ. В ходе испытаний услугами Samsung Pay смогут воспользоваться владельцы флагманских смартфонов серий Galaxy S (начиная с Galaxy S10) и Galaxy Note последних поколений. В случае отсутствия каких-либо проблем, после 28-го октября Samsung Pay будет активирован на всех остальных совместимых устройствах, включая смарт-часы.

Аналитики рынка мобильных платежей отмечают, что Samsung Pay пришёл в Германию с уникальными предложениями,  что выделяет его на фоне аналогичных сервисов от Apple и Google.
Помимо того, что смартфоны и некоторые модели смарт-часов Samsung имеют комбинированный MST/NFC модуль, позволяющий проводить бесконтактные платежи даже на терминалах прошлых поколений (только с магнитной картой), южнокорейский техногигант предложит уникальные возможности мобильного банкинга с максимальным охватом клиентской базы. Иными словами, платёжные сервисы ограничены номенклатурой финансовых учреждений, которые согласились их поддерживать. Но в случае с немецкой версией Samsung Pay схема предоставления услуг выстроена иначе.
Samsung заключил партнёрские соглашения с Visa и местной финтех-компанией Solarisbank AG, чтобы максимально эффективно продвинуться на местном рынке. Южнокорейский электронный гигант не стал обременять себя поиском партнёров среди немецких банков, а возложил эту задачу на Visa, которая имеет давние контакты и опыт взаимодействия со всеми финансовыми учреждениями Германии.

Samsung Pay in Germany launches with a unique feature

Aside from the MST tech that makes it compatible with even traditional magstripe terminals, Samsung is launching the service in Germany with a feature it has not made available anywhere else, making it practically possible to link any bank account to Samsung Pay.
The way mobile payment systems work is that companies like Samsung, Apple, or Google make deals with individual banks in countries where they are expanding. That means only customers of those banks will actually be able to take advantage of the phone-based payment system which, in turn, means the adoption of the service is also limited. Not a problem if you’re a giant that can strike up a deal with multiple banks all at once but Samsung seems to have thought of a different way around that.
In Germany, Samsung has partnered with Visa and fintech company Solarisbank AG to bring Samsung Pay to the country. It didn’t partner with a specific bank and is instead relying on Visa’s network to do the heavy lifting. When users sign up for Samsung Pay, Visa issues a virtual Visa debit card that can then be used to link to almost any German bank account.
This is an admittedly novel arrangement and it is also the first time Visa is providing this service in Europe. This could definitely make it easier to start using Samsung Pay, especially since Solarisbank’s sign-up process doesn’t require an in-person branch visit or even video identification. In addition, in the German version of Samsung Pay, you can purchase goods in installments on very attractive terms.
Samsung Pay in Germany is starting out as a beta service first, albeit an open beta one. The list of supported devices is limited to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships starting with the Galaxy S10 but excluding any Lite model. If all goes well, the service will be publicly available on October 28.

Продажи встроенных SIM-карт (технология eSIM) для Интернета вещей (IoT) к 2025 году достигнут 326 миллионов штук, увеличившись вдвое по сравнению с 2020-м. Такой прогноз делает исследовательская компании Strategy Analytics.

Владельцу устройства с eSIM достаточно скачать приложение выбранного оператора связи или сканировать его QR-код, чтобы получить номер телефона и тарифный план. Технология также позволяет мгновенно переключаться между разными операторами, в результате чего исчезает необходимость менять привычные SIM-карты.

Растущую популярность технологии на рынке Интернета вещей в Strategy Analytics объясняют тем, что она позволяет использовать не физические SIM-карты, а виртуальные. Это важный момент, поскольку доступ к IoT-оборудованию (например, в автомобилях и медицинских системах) зачастую затруднён.

"Растущее число устройств с поддержкой SIM-карт в сфере IoT представляет собой головную боль из-за необходимости обслуживания и управления в компаниях. В России мобильные операторы "ВымпелКом" и "МегаФон" со скрипом начали подключать абонентов с помощью eSIM в конце июля 2020 года. Tele2 запустил этот сервис в 2019-м, но во всех случаях процедура осложняется массой административных формальностей с персональной регистрацией владельцев устройств со встроенной eSIM. Тем не менее, это повысило спрос на поддерживающие технологию устройства, рассказали опрошенные газетой "Ведомости" представители розничных сетей. С начала 2020 года на российском рынке спрос на eSIM-смартфоны вырос в 2,8 раза по сравнению с аналогичным периодом прошлого года, сообщили изданию в пресс-службе "М.Видео-Эльдорадо". В августе продажи таких смартфонов увеличились в 3,5 раза, утверждает представитель ритейлера.

В Министерстве цифрового развития, связи и массовых коммуникаций России в очередной раз призвали не торопиться с внедрением встроенных SIM-карт, объясняя это "необходимостью решить вопросы, связанные с безопасностью технологии eSIM".

Против внедрения eSIM выступила "святая троица" крупнейших российских мобильных операторов: "МегаФон", МТС и "ВымпелКом", а также Центр защиты информации и спецсвязи ФСБ. Операторов волнует сопряжённое с этим сокращение выручки, в то время как им необходимы большие ресурсы для исполнения российского законодательства, в частности так называемого закона Яровой, требующего введения тотальной слежки за населением. Им вторят сотрудники российских спецслужб, отмечая сложности с внедрением в eSIM собственного метода шифрования данных, что затрудняет осуществление слежки.

Именно из-за позиции российских властей Samsung и многие другие поставщики не спешат начинать продажи в России таких устройств как смарт-часы со встроенным LTE-модулем. Это не позволяет абонентам избавиться от постоянной привязки носимых гаджетов к смартфонам.

In Russia, the introduction of eSIM continues to be held back, which leads to a technological lag in many industries

Sales of embedded SIM cards (eSIM technology) for the Internet of Things (IoT) will reach 326 million units by 2025, doubling from 2020. This forecast is made by the research company Strategy Analytics.

The owner of a device with an eSIM only needs to download the application of the selected telecom operator or scan its QR code to get a phone number and tariff plan.

The technology also allows you to instantly switch between different operators, as a result of which there is no need to change your usual SIM cards. The growing popularity of the technology in the IoT market is explained by Strategy Analytics by the fact that it allows using virtual SIM cards rather than physical ones. This is an important factor because access to IoT equipment (for example, in cars and medical systems) is often difficult.

"The growing number of SIM-enabled devices in the IoT realm presents a headache due to the need for maintenance and management in companies. Replacing SIM cards in millions of IoT devices is impractical and unrealistic. eSIM offers a robust, scalable solution to the SIM problem, especially for enterprises," said Andrew Brown, executive director of Enterprise and IoT at Strategy Analytics.

In Russia, mobile operators VimpelCom and MegaFon, without much enthusiasm, began to connect subscribers using eSIM at the end of July 2020. The operator Tele2 launched this service in 2019, but in all cases, the procedure is complicated by a lot of administrative formalities with personal registration of owners of devices with built-in eSIM. But even despite all the difficulties, the demand for devices with built-in eSIM has increased, representatives of retail trade networks told the Vedomosti newspaper. Since the beginning of 2020, the demand for eSIM smartphones in the Russian market has grown by 2.8 times compared to the same period last year, the press service of M.Video-Eldorado told the publication. In August, sales of such smartphones increased 3.5 times, according to a representative of the retailer.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia once again urged not to rush to the introduction of embedded SIM-cards, explaining this by "the need to resolve issues related to the security of eSIM technology."

The "holy trinity" of the largest Russian mobile operators: MegaFon, MTS and VimpelCom, as well as the Center for Information Protection and Special Communications of the FSB, opposed the introduction of eSIM.  Operators are worried about the resulting reduction in revenue, while they need large resources to comply with Russian legislation, in particular the so-called Yarovaya law, which requires the introduction of total surveillance of the population. They are echoed by employees of the Russian special services, noting the difficulties with introducing their own method of data encryption into eSIM, which makes it difficult to carry out surveillance.

It is because of the position of the Russian authorities that Samsung and many other suppliers are in no hurry to start selling devices such as smartwatches with a built-in LTE module in Russia. This does not allow subscribers to get rid of the constant binding of wearable gadgets to smartphones.
