The Mate 30 series, which will succeed the existing Mate 20 line – will be the first to run HongMeng and cost around 2,000 yuan (approximately Rs 20,300), the report said. According to a report by Global Times, citing a source familiar with the development, Huawei’s upcoming Mate series will introduce its mobile ecosystem. Given the price, the mid-range phones will come preloaded with HongMeng OS while its premium, flagship devices will continue shipping with Android, the licence ban for which was lifted after US government eased the trade regulations. While there is no official word from Huawei on when it is planning to launch HongMeng OS, company executive Catherine Chen said earlier that the OS will be best-suited for devices beyond smartphones (such as IoT devices, smart TVs, and other network equipment) and that Huawei mobile phones would continue to be powered by Android. Chen said that HongMeng OS relies on simpler and less complex coding than Android, which makes it a little undeserving for flagship-level mobile phones. But, at the same time, would minimise Huawei’s dependence on Android for its low-tier phones, including those of its Honor brand. It seems similar to Samsung’s TIZEN OS that, although does not support any phone from the brand, is the primary ecosystem for devices including its Galaxy Watch models. It seems that Huawei simply stole the idea from Samsung, which thus develops the open mobile platform TIZEN based on Linux, although it froze the smartphone direction. At one time, the Chinese defiantly did not support Samsung, abandoning the release of smartphones on TIZEN. Now they want to enter the market with their Linux-oriented platform, in fact, having copied the achievements of their main competitor (not for nothing that the Chinese were members of the TIZEN Association as observers). Nikolai Iznov, a guest consultant for the Samsung Word blog, believes that if Samsung urgently does not return to the idea of launching TIZEN on its smartphones, it will lose the race to the Chinese. "The idea of creating a complete ecosystem on own software platform is vital for every self-respecting large company. If Samsung does not understand this, then I am truly sorry for them," said the expert.

TIZEN-powered Galaxy Watch Active 2: recent leaks before the official premiere Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be succeeded on Monday when Samsung takes the wraps off its latest wearable. Ahead of its release however, it seems the device has been completely unmasked courtesy of a new leak. Galaxy Watch was Samsung’s flagship wearable for 2018 - the hardware debuted alongside the Galaxy Note 9 and was notable for its array of fitness features and great battery life. Samsung has already announced it will debut its newest wearable, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, on August 5. The hardware has been tipped to come in three models and boast a wide-range of health features. In addition to a Bluetooth-only and LTE version, an Under Armour branded flavour of the product has also been tipped for a reveal. In particular, it has been speculated the hardware could be capable of performing an electrocardiogram for owners, similar to that of the Apple Watch Series 4. Wareable has also declared the product will come in 40 millimetre and 44 millimetre case sizes which, if true, means the hardware could be smaller than last year’s Galaxy Watch. Alleged images of the hardware were first outed by SamMobile - the product was shown looking incredibly similar to the original Galaxy Watch Active but featured altered buttons on its side. While the hardware was shown omitting Samsung’s signature rotating bezel, it has been rumoured the border around the Active 2’s display may be able to replicate similar functionality if the user moves their finger across it. As mentioned above, claimed photos of the Watch Active 2 had already surfaced online - however the most detailed of which has now emerged courtesy of Android Headlines. The outlet recently showcased the hardware in what appear to be the three colours it will debut in at launch. Once again the device was shown looking incredibly similar to its predecessor - the Active 2 is expected to come with a noticeable bezel around its display. The software showcased on the product was reminiscent of that on the regular Watch Active, suggesting the new wearable will once again run Samsung’s own TIZEN operating system. As was initially rumoured by Wareable, it seems a photo Under Armour version of the Watch Active 2 has also surfaced courtesy of renowned tipster Evan Blass. The leaker showed a picture of the hardware that appeared to be possible marketing material outed ahead of its unveiling. Samsung’s wearable was showcased looking incredibly similar to the regular version but featured an Under Armour watch face and strap. It is unclear if this variant will differ from the standard model in any other ways. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch Active 2 on Monday, August 5.
