Несмотря на сократившиеся доходы в 2019 году из-за очередного цикла снижения спроса на полупроводники, Samsung Electronics увеличил инвестиции в научные исследования и разработки (НИОКР или R&D), сообщает портал Business Korea со ссылкой на данные из аудиторского отчёта корпорации, опубликованные в конце февраля 2020-го.
В прошлом году Samsung впервые потратил на НИОКР более 20 триллионов вон (около 16,5 миллиарда долларов США). Общая сумма инвестиций достигла 20,19 трлн вон, что на 8,3% превышает результат 2018 года, когда R&D-затраты Samsung составили 18,65 триллионов вон (порядка 15,3 миллиарда долларов).
Рост инвестиций в будущее развитие примечателен на фоне сокращения выручки и операционной прибыли Samsung. Финансовые показатели здесь уменьшились на 5,5% и 52,8% соответственно. С учётом этого Samsung израсходовал на НИОКР 8,8% своей выручки, тогда как в 2018-м на эти цели ушло примерно 7,7% годового оборота корпорации.
Наиболее активно Samsung вкладывал деньги в научные разработки в области системных полупроводников и производства дисплеев на квантовых точках (quantum dot или сокращённо QD). Ранее, в апреле 2019-го в руководстве южнокорейского электронного гиганта объявили о планах потратить на развитие системных полупроводников 133 триллиона вон (около 110 миллиардов долларов) и к 2030 году сделать их производство крупнейшим по значимости направлением деятельности Samsung вне рынка микросхем памяти. Кроме того, в октябре Samsung решил вложить 13 триллионов вон (10,7 миллиарда долларов) в новую производственную линию по выпуску QD-OLED-дисплеев.
Samsung Electronics’ R&D Investment in 2019 Tops 20 Tril. Won for First Time
Despite a drop in its earnings, Samsung Electronics increased its investment in research and development (R&D) in 2019 to prepare future growth engines.
The company’s R&D expenditure totaled 20.19 trillion won in 2019, topping the 20 trillion won mark for the first time, according to a consolidated audit report published on Feb. 26. The figure represented a 8.3 percent increase from 18.65 trillion won in the previous year.
Its R&D investment shot up despite declines of 5.5 percent and 52.8 percent in sales and operating profit, respectively, due to a slowdown in the semiconductor market last year. As a result, Samsung Electronics' R&D spending compared with sales stood at 8.8 percent last year, more than 1 percentage point higher from 7.7 percent in 2018.
The growth in the R&D expenditure was led by investment in system semiconductors and quantum dot (QD) displays. In April 2019, the Korean tech giant unveiled a vision to invest 133 trillion won in system semiconductors by 2030 to become No. 1 in the non-memory business. In October, it decided to invest 13 trillion won in new QD display production lines.
However, its corporate tax shrank due to a drop in its earnings. In the consolidated audit report, Samsung Electronics reported that its corporate tax expense totaled 8,693.3 billion won, down 48.3 percent from 16,815.1 billion won in the previous year. Its corporate tax accounted for about 3.8 percent of its sales, down from 6.9 percent in 2018.

Первый 2D-экран серии Super S Samsung представил в июле 2017 года на южнокорейском рынке. Его ширина составляла 10 метров. Новая версия, которая получила название Onyx, шире предыдущей в 1,4 раза и вдвое превосходит её по площади.
Напомним, что подобные LED-дисплеи установлены в ряде крупных городов по всему миру, включая Лос-Анджелес, Пекин, Цюрих, Франкфурт-на-Майне, Париж, Сеул, Сан-Паулу, Нью-Дели, Мумбай и т.д.
Кинопрокатная компания HOYTS владеет более чем 50-ю кинотеатрами в Австралии и Новой Зеландии, и кроме открывшегося зала Onyx в сиднейском Moor Park, к марту 2020 года намерена установить ещё один 10-метровый экран в комплексе Highpoint в Мельбурне.

Samsung Unveils the First Onyx Cinema LED Screen in Australia
Samsung Electronics unveiled its Onyx screen in Australia at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, Sydney, the first-ever in Australia. The new installment features Samsung’s latest 14-meter Onyx Cinema LED screen. Another 10-meter Onyx screen will also be installed at HOYTS Highpoint in Melbourne, Australia, by March 2020.
