Samsung продолжает изыскивать способы противодействия натиску китайских конкурентов на ключевых рынках мобильных устройств. В рамках этой программы сегодня в Индии состоялась презентанция абсолютно новой линейки Android-смартфонов Galaxy M, которая довольно сильно выделяется на фоне бюджетных моделей южнокорейского вендора прошлых лет.
Налицо явное стремление лидера мобильной индустрии усилить аппаратную часть недорогих устройств с одновременным удержанием цен в нижнем диапазоне. Именно поэтому было принято нестандартное для Samsung решение наладить онлайн-продажи новых девайсов через местного партнёра в лице индийского отделения Amazon.
Итак, чем же Samsung намерен привлечь индийскую аудиторию, основательно "подсевшую" в последнее время на демпинговые предложения китайской Xiaomi, которая ради захвата рыночной доли идёт на прямые убытки, в результате чего её акции просели аж на 21%?
"Первыми ласточками" 2019 года стали модели Samsung Galaxy M10 и Galaxy M20 с М-образной выемкой (по версии Samsung она V-образная) для сэлфи-камеры на почти "безрамочном" дисплее. Правда, старшую (и наиболее ожидаемую) модель M30 почему-то не показали. Тем не менее, небогатых жителей Индии, коих насчитывается несколько сотен миллионов, наверняка порадуют ценовые предложения от A-брэнда на самые доступные Galaxy M. Цены здесь варьируется в диапазоне 112 - 155 долларов США.
Семейство Galaxy M "ориентировано на миллениалов", что неоднократно подчёркивалось в сегодняшней презентации. Правда, чем уж так отличаются от "миллениалов" все остальные, не совсем понятно. В Samsung пояснили, что для "миллениалов" предусмотрены специальные тарифные планы на интернет-трафик по выгодным ценам — они, разумеется, действуют лишь в случае их покупки вместе со смартфоном, иначе "зависнуть" в интернете за минимальную цену не получится.
Миллениалам со скромным достатком адресована младшая модель линейки - Galaxy M10. Она оснащена экраном с диагональю 6,2 дюйма и разрешением 1480x720 пикселей, двойной камерой с датчиками изображения разрешением 13 и 5 Мп (диафрагма в 1-м модуле — F/1,9 дюйма, а во 2-м— F/2,2) и однокристальной платформой Exynos 7870 с 8- ядерным CPU частотой 1,6 ГГц и GPU Mali-T830 (ровно как бестселлере 2017 года Galaxy J7).
В минимальной версии 2Гб ОЗУ и 16 Гб флэш-памяти (это чуть хуже чем в J7 2017), в топовой — 3Гб ОЗУ и 32Гб флэш-памяти (чуть лучше чем в базовой версии J7 2017). Также в конфигурации смартфона имеется фронтальная камера с разрешением 5Мп с диафрагмой F/2,2 (в то время как Galaxy J7 (2017) имеет 13-мегапиксельную сэлфи-камеру), сканер отпечатков пальцев на тыльной панели, аккумуляторная батарея емкостью 3400 мА·ч. Габариты модели - 160,6x76,1x7,9 мм, масса — 163 грамма.
Galaxy M20 больше по габаритам и мощнее по "железу". Здесь установлен дисплей с диагональю 6,3 дюйма и разрешением 2340x1080 пикселей, а также анонсированная совсем недавно SoC Exynos 7904. Объём ОЗУ побольше - 3-4Гб, объём флэш-памяти — 32 или 64Гб. Ёмкость аккумуляторной батареи отличная — 5000 мА·ч. Также имеется порт USB-C и встроенный NFC-модуль для работы мобильного кошелька Samsung Pay. При этом набор камер абсолютно такой же, как у Galaxy M10. Габариты Galaxy M20 — 156,6x74,5x8,8 мм, масса - 186 граммов. Поддерживается система ускоренной зарядки.
Новинки дебютируют на индийском рынке 5 февраля. Когда эти аппараты появятся в других странах, пока неизвестно.
Samsung India Launches Galaxy M, Smartphones Inspired by Millennials
Samsung India today launched Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M10 smartphones that have been designed ground up in the country for young millennials. Galaxy M series smartphones come with best-in-class infinity-V display and powerful features such as dual camera with ultra-wide lens, long lasting battery, high performance processors and a new Samsung Experience UX.
Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M10 will be available on Amazon.in and Samsung.com from February 5, 2019. Galaxy M20 and M10 will be available in Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black colours. Galaxy M20 will be priced at INR 12,990 for the 4GB+64GB variant, while the 3GB+32GB variant will cost INR 10,990. Samsung Electronics to Replace Plastic Packaging with Sustainable Materials
Under the company’s sustainability policy, Samsung plans to minimize and replace packaging with environmentally sustainable materials
Samsung Electronics announced today that the company will start taking steps this year to replace plastic packaging materials with paper and other environmentally sustainable elements.
From the first half of 2019, the packaging used currently for Samsung’s products and accessories – ranging from mobile phones and tablets to home appliances – will be substituted with environmentally sustainable materials like recycled/bio-based plastics and paper.
To revamp product packaging, Samsung Electronics has formed a task force involving design and development, purchasing, marketing and quality control for innovative packaging ideas.
For mobile phone, tablet and wearable products, Samsung will replace the plastic used for holder trays with pulp molds, and bags wrapping accessories with eco-friendly materials. Samsung will also alter the phone charger design, swapping the glossy exterior with a matte finish and eliminating plastic protection films, reducing the use of plastics.
The plastic bags used to protect the surface of home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines as well as other kitchen appliances will also be replaced with bags containing recycled materials and bioplastics, which are respectively made from plastic wastes and non-fossil fuel materials like starch or sugar cane.
Regarding paper, Samsung will only use fiber materials certified by global environmental organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative for packaging and manuals by 2020.
“Samsung Electronics is stepping up in addressing society’s environmental issues such as resource depletion and plastic wastes,” said Gyeong-bin Jeon, head of Samsung’s Global Customer Satisfaction Center. “We are committed to recycling resources and minimizing pollution coming from our products. We will adopt more environmentally sustainable materials even if it means an increase in cost.”
Under the company’s circular economy policy, Samsung Electronics has set a mid-term implementation plan to only use paper packaging materials certified by forestry initiatives by next year. By 2030, Samsung aims to use 500 thousand tons of recycled plastics and collect 7.5 million tons of discarded products (both cumulative from 2009).

Samsung Galaxy Watch gets a new update for Bluetooth and LTE variants
A new update is currently being rolled out for both the Samsung Galaxy Watch Bluetooth and LTE variants. The software/firmware versions have now been updated to R810XXU1BSA4 and R805FXXU1CSA3 for the Bluetooth and LTE variants of the Galaxy Watch, respectively. Interestingly, the Platform version is still TIZEN OS 4.0.0.1, whilst the Gear S3 and Gear Sport were recently updated to TIZEN 4.0.0.2.
The Galaxy Watch Bluetooth has a download size of 62.75MB. This is yet another update that Samsung is hoping will improve the battery life for many users. The update also promises overall device stability and bug fixes. This is always high on anyone’s “want” list. Finally, in the list of updates, users can also expect some Improvements to Heart Rate monitoring sensor.
The Galaxy Watch LTE version has a much smaller download size of 14.33MB. A number of Important bugs have been squashed with this update. An issue has been fixed that stopped phone number Information appearing on redial. Another fix is an issue in which the VoLTE icon disappears. Other Improvements are to SIM activation routine stabilisation.

Samsung to launch premium cordless vacuum cleaner
Samsung Electronics said on Jan. 28 it will launch a new cordless vacuum cleaner with powerful suction and an advanced filtration system designed to capture fine dust next month.
Featuring 200 watts of “industry leading” suction power, Samsung said its POWERstick Jet 200 will offer a thorough cleaning experience for all floor types.
The new cordless model has a five-layer high efficiency particulate air filter to suck in 99.9 percent of fine dust to address growing consumer concerns over air quality, it noted.
“In light of the worsening fine dust, consumers are paying more attention to the air quality at home,” Eugene Chung, vice president of vacuum cleaner marketing, said at a media event. “We expect the Samsung Jet 200 to improve the cleaning experience by better blocking fine dust from our daily lives.”
Recognizing that a long-battery life is a critical component of a cordless vacuum, Samsung said the Jet 200 lasts up to 60 minutes on a single charge, which is about 1.5 times longer than the previous model.
It also has a flex handle that extends, making it easier to vacuum in hard-to-reach areas such as under the sofa.
The new model will be released in early February, with prices ranging from 969,000 won (US$866) to 1,399,000 won depending on the number of batteries and detachable brushes, the company said.

Samsung unveils TOUS Galaxy Watch at Madrid Fashion Show
Samsung has teamed up with Spanish jewellery, accessories and fashion firm TOUS to launch an exclusive, luxury version of its Galaxy Watch at the Madrid Fasion Week. The TOUS Galaxy Watch by Samsung two interchangeable Tous-branded silicone straps in pink and black as well as the possibility of incorporating up to 3 different screen backgrounds. It will be available at all TOUS stores in Spain from 01 March at prices starting from EUR 1,379.
This is not the first collaboration between Samsung and TOUS in the wearable device segment. Earlier, the Spanish company has already released a special set of accessories for fitness trackers Samsung Gear Fit.

How the Exynos 9 Series 9820 is Ushering in a New Era of Mobile Experiences

The advanced display subsystem is built to present high quality multimedia content on an HDR display. The HDR display reproduces lifelike colors with a high level of accuracy. Notably, the Exynos 9820 supports HDR10+, a new open standard for HDR video which employs dynamic tone mapping allowing scenes to be optimized individually. With this powerful display subsystem, the Exynos 9820 can support a 4K UHD display on a mobile device, offering mesmerizing multimedia experiences.
Now these advanced benefits allow people to run daily errands and perform personal tasks using their mobile device alone and they must be accompanied by strong security. The Exynos 9820 features a physically unclonable function (PUF), also known as a digital fingerprint, to manage personal data in perfect isolation, making for more reliable security. PUF generates an unclonable key for data encryption by using the unique physical characteristics of each chip. While the PUF creates a unique digital fingerprint, the security subsystem is a secure key manager that supports other security protocols, such as key generation, storage and derivation.
The Exynos 9820 is built on an advanced FinFET process with a low power design scheme, meaning all of this can be done while consuming less power. The 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFET process reduces power consumption by up to 10 percent compared to 10nm LPP process.3 The Exynos 9820 also optimizes the power consumptions of the CPU and the GPU through reductions in idle and leakage power and operating voltage.
