Gear Fit 2.

Samsung’s Upcoming Wearable Device is a Fitness Tracker Hybrid

Samsung has a new wearable device in works which seems to be a hybrid of a fitness tracker and a smartwatch. The features of this mysterious wearable tech that have been revealed by Samsung hints that it is not the forthcoming Gear S4 smartwatch.
The information on this device has appeared through a survey email that Samsung has sent out through its SmartLab Plus program. Through the survey, Samsung is seeking ideas on the taglines that can be used to advertise its forthcoming product. In the survey email, Samsung has revealed that this new product offers some of the best features from Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch and Gear Fit 2 fitness band.
Samsung has further stated that the new wearable device appears like a smartwatch instead of an activity tracker. It will be arriving with a small-sized body and slimmer watch bands. The device will be equipped with user-replaceable bands which will allow customers to personalize its appeal.
It will be a water-resistant device that will let users wear it even while swimming. Some of the other features that will be available on this wearable device are activity tracking, active sports, weight management, calorie management and coaching. These features will not only appeal beginners but also fitness experts.
It will be coming with a revamped UI with enhanced widgets for glanceable information for viewing the progress of fitness goals. Smart inactivity alert is another feature of this mysterious smart device that will remind its users to be active when doing a sedentary job. Since the email is seeking opinions on taglines for this upcoming wearable tech, Samsung is also asking the recipients of the email to consider the taglines of its other smartwatches and fitness trackers.
The email does not contain any information on when Samsung will be releasing this new device. Samsung sells its smartwatches as Gear S products whereas its fitness trackers are sold as Gear Fit products. There is no confirmation on whether the new product will belong to any of these branding or it will be introduced under a new brand name.

Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud

Samsung Electronics Launches New Data Monetization Solution for IoT using Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud

New service unlocks revenue opportunities from interoperable devices and applications to enable an IoT data economy

Samsung Electronics today announced Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud Monetization for the Internet of Things (IoT), a new service to monetize the data shared by IoT devices and enable an IoT data economy. For the first time, device manufacturers and service providers can tap into an open ecosystem and create service plans that generate revenue directly from the interactions of devices and services. With this unique data monetization model, device manufacturers can take advantage of Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud’s extensive interoperability features to generate new revenue streams and implement new business models, such as hardware as a service.
For device manufacturers, IoT shifts their operating model from selling hardware to selling hardware products connected to digital applications. Today, device manufacturers often have trouble recouping data costs associated with free applications and supporting an ecosystem of third-party devices, apps and services. Manufacturers have to either absorb the data costs of operating devices in the field, or factor in anticipated data costs to the retail price of devices.
Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud Monetization addresses this problem by providing a complete brokering, metering and payments system. It gives device manufacturers an easy way to make their devices interoperable with third-party devices and applications, and monetize data useage. With the Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud developer portal, device manufacturers have the flexibility to define service plans that meet their business needs. Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud brokers and meters user interactions against the defined plan, and manages upgrades, payments and revenue share back to the device OEM.
“Samsung is committed to growing the IoT data economy,” said James Stansberry, senior vice president and global head of ARTIK at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung ARTIK™ Cloud Monetization uniquely positions us to help device manufacturers find new ways to make money from IoT and enable more applications for their customers. This is part of our long-term strategy to facilitate the development of secure IoT products and services, promote wide-scale interoperability, and create a platform and business model for an entire IoT ecosystem to thrive. Like the mobile phone industry, IoT will be driven by open systems, interoperability and support from innovative applications.”
“Samsung ARTIK™ is leading the way in helping device manufacturers easily make their devices interoperable with third-party devices and applications, as well as be able to monetize data use, and we are excited to be part of the journey,” said Pete Horton, vice president of market development at Legrand. “The new data broker model helps Legrand focus on our core competency of building market leading devices, while also allowing us to benefit from Samsung’s open ecosystem of third-party apps and services. It’s the missing piece to the IoT puzzle.”
“We’re excited to partner with Samsung ARTIK™ on the new monetization model,” said Stefan Grosjean, founder and CEO of Smappee, provider of smart energy solutions. “Increasing the reach of devices while also providing a path to monetization is key to the successful evolution of IoT.”
“The problem with IoT is that many hardware companies are selling products without a clear view on sustainable business models. There’s a lot of pressure now to monetize data,” said Dilip Sarangan, global research director, IoT & digital transformation at Frost & Sullivan. “Samsung ARTIKTM Cloud Monetization is out front in addressing a crucial need in the market. It can help hardware developers monetize solutions without necessarily putting in all the effort themselves. This is a huge value proposition, especially on the consumer side, which has an untapped potential, but also on the enterprise side.”

Long Term Evolution.

New Samsung's high tech air conditioners dominate the Korean market

As a leader in the tech industry, Korean companies are finding new ways to keep people cool in summer. No fans, no blasts of cold air, and no shocking power bill.
Our Elliott Kim take a closer look. Nowadays, customers shopping for an air conditioner aren't satisfied with simply having a cool breeze blow at them.
Many of them actually want to cool their spaces without any breeze at all.
That wish came to fruition last year, when Samsung launched its wind-free air conditioner. 5 years of R&D culminated in a design that, after quickly cooling down the room using a fan, maintains the temperature, by sending air through 135-thousand tiny holes. Samsung has seen strong sales of these units.
When announcing the 2017 unveiling of the units, Seo Byung-sam, the president of Samsung's home appliances division said, that consumers will enjoy the cool, efficient air condition capabilities, while also noting they will really love that they no longer have to deal with uncomfortable, cold air.
The units are equipped with human detection sensors that recognize movement and automatically turns the air vents in the customer's direction.
They can also recognize when the room is empty and switch to a power-saving mode that uses 35 percent less energy.
"The sensors analyze the space, and intelligently direct cool air towards where people are working, a method that is more pleasant, quicker, and saves energy."
With heat waves in full force, air conditioners are in especially high demand with wait times approaching one month from purchase until installation.
Despite this, consumers are continuing to flock to the newer, more advanced air conditioners' drawn to their appealing features.
Samsung said it sold more than 1 million air conditioners from Jan. 1 to July 21, setting a new top sales record for the company. It attributed the sales hike to the rising popularity of its wind-free air conditioners, which accounted for around 60 percent of Samsung’s air conditioner sales in Korea for the year.
