Партнёрство Google и Samsung
Samsung и Google будут совместно продвигать внедрение в отрасли стандарта обмена сообщениями Rich Communication Services (RCS). В рамках партнёрства, которое заключили компании, Android Messages и Samsung Messages должны стать совместимы друг с другом и начать работать с RCS-сообщениями.
Благодаря этому пользователи смогут передавать сообщения через Wi-Fi, вести групповые чаты, видеть информацию о сообщении типа «печатает» и «прочитано», обмениваться фото и видеофайлами в высоком качестве и т. п. Поддержка RCS-решений обеих компаний будет добавлена на различные платформы, включая облачные и предназначенные для бизнеса.
По словам Патрика Шоме (Patrick Chomet), исполнительного вице-президента и руководителя отдела инноваций в области продуктов и услуг мобильного подразделения Samsung Electronics, сотрудничество двух компаний должно ускорить переход технологической отрасли к стандарту RCS.
На каких телефонах это будет доступно
Google и Samsung уже создали совместными усилиями RCS-решения для некоторых смартфонов Samsung. Поддержка RCS будет добавлена в модели, которые уже вышли на рынок, начиная с Galaxy S8 и S8+. Речь идёт о таких устройствах как S8, S8+, S8 Active, S9, S9+, Note8, Note9 и некоторые модели серий A и J под управлением Android 9.0 или выше.
В зависимости от конкретного рынка или оператора поддержка RCS может быть недоступна. Новые модели линейки Galaxy уже поддерживают RCS, если его поддерживает оператор связи.
Разработчики, которые создают инструменты для обмена сообщениями RCS на базе релиза GSMA Universal Profile 2.0 с применение сервисов Messaging-as-a-Platform (MaaP) Google или Samsung, смогут предложить новый стандарт обмена бизнес-сообщениями пользователям Android Messages и Samsung Messagеs.
Что такое RCS
RCS — это протокол обмена данными между операторами сотовой связи, а также между операторами и устройствами, который должен заменить SMS. Протокол начал разрабатываться GSM Association в 2008 г., первый релиз появился 2012 г.
Google и Microsoft обеспечили его поддержку в Android и Windows 8. В 2016 г. с появлением первого универсального профиля RCS (GSMA Universal Profile 1.0) к инициативе присоединились 47 операторов и 11 производителей техники. RCS известен также под названиями Advanced Messaging, Advanced Communications, joyn, Message+ и SMS+.
В отличие от SMS новый протокол позволяет не только обмениваться отдельными сообщениями, но также вести чаты с несколькими пользователями, обмениваться файлами и контентом, использовать IP-звонки и видеозвонки, обмениваться геолокационными данными, отсылать аудиосообщения, вести чёрный список в сети и др. В релизе GSMA Universal Profile 2.0, который вышел в июле 2017 г., была добавлена поддержка MaaP, API и интеграция плагинов.
RCS поддерживается на устройствах под управлением Android где есть приложение Android Messages. В апреле 2018 г. стало известно о решении Google перебросить команду специалистов, которые работали над мессенджером Google Allo, на работы по более широкому внедрению RCS. Инструмент для обмена сообщениями, который получится в результате, компания планировала назвать Chat.
Samsung and Google Collaborate on RCS Messaging for Android
Expanded partnership will bring enhanced messaging experiences and interoperability between Samsung Messages and Android Messages
Samsung Electronics and Google announced they are working together to offer an enhanced smartphone messaging experience, accelerating the industry initiative toward global Rich Communication Services (RCS) coverage and interoperability. This collaboration will ensure that Android Messages and Samsung Messages will work seamlessly together and with RCS messaging, enabling features like the ability to chat over WiFi, create rich group chats, see typing indicators and read receipts, and share high-resolution photos and videos across platforms.
Working together, Google and Samsung will ensure that their messaging clients, Android Messages and Samsung Messages, work seamlessly with each company’s RCS technology, including cloud and business messaging platforms. To date, Google and Samsung have collaborated to introduce RCS to select Samsung devices; as part of this expanded collaboration, Samsung will work to bring these RCS features to existing mobile phones* beginning with the Galaxy S8 and S8+. New Samsung Galaxy smartphones will also natively support RCS messaging**, starting with those on a set of carriers that have or will soon launch RCS. This means that consumers and brands will be able to enjoy richer chats with both Android Messages and Samsung Messages users.

As a further benefit of this expanded partnership, developers and brands that create RCS Business Messaging experiences (based on GSMA Universal Profile 2.0) using the Google or Samsung Messaging-as-a-Platform (MaaP) services will be able to reach both Android Messages and Samsung Messages users, bringing richer business messaging to many more users.
This collaboration further accelerates the adoption and availability of RCS globally, enabling an enhanced messaging experience across the entire Android ecosystem.
*Will include Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S8 Active, S9, S9+, Note8, Note9, and select A and J series running Android 9.0 or later. Subject to carrier and market availability.
**RCS capabilities will be available for select Galaxy smartphones on carriers that support RCS.
