В ближайшие месяцы в Саудовской Аравии откроется 7 кинотеатров с залами Samsung Onyx

Национальная сеть новейших кинотеатров в Саудовской Аравии, известная под брэндом Muvi, в ближайшее время собирается открыть 7 мультиплексов, оборудованных по самым продвинутым стандартам. Здесь будут представлены наиболее актуальные кинотехнологии, такие как Xperience, ScreenX, Dolby Cinema и Samsung Onyx.

Напомним, что Samsung Onyx - это единственный в мире брэнд, предоставляющий возможность полностью раскрыть преимущества цифрового кинематографа, гарантируя максимально возможное на сегодняшний день качество изображения и впечатляющий окружающий звук от HARMAN (американский мультибрэндовый конгломерат, полностью принадлежащий Samsung Electronics с марта 2017 года).

В кинозалах Samsung Onyx отсутствуют проекторы и вообще нет привычной кинопроекционной. Вместо этого в зале из отдельных высокопрецизионных модулей монтируется LED-экран, работающий по принципу MicroLED, когда каждый элемент, формирующий изображение, является отдельным светодиодом, способным полностью отключаться для отображения идеального чёрного цвета. Помимо этого, такие экраны имеют рекордные для кинозалов параметры яркости, контраста и цветового охвата, превосходя самые лучшие системы на базе лазерной проекции в несколько раз.

Особенно преимущество Samsung Onyx заметно при показе 3D-фильмов, где яркость, цветовая палитра, проработка деталей и глубина объёмного изображения на порядки превосходит соперников.

Несмотря на относительно высокую стоимость, Samsung Onyx Cinema, как минимум, в 3 раза превосходит лазерное проекционное оборудование по длительности работы на отказ (гарантируется 11 лет непрерывной работы экрана без ухудшения параметров качества изображения).  

В настоящее время Samsung предлагает 3 конфигурации комплектов Onyx Cinema - от 5-ти до 14,5 метров в ширину. Экраны поддерживают разрешение до 4K в форматах 2D и 3D. За качество объёмного звука отвечает специально разработанная система JBL Sculpted Surround от HARMAN International Industries.

В киевском торгово-развлекательном центре «Аладдин» с ноября работает первый кинотеатр будущего от новой украинской сети Miromax, который использует уникальную LED-технологию Samsung Onyx.

Как отмечают в пресс-службе Samsung Electronics Ukraine, уникальность этого кинозала заключается в революционной технологии Samsung Onyx, аналогов которой нет в Украине, а также в максимальной автоматизации обслуживания.

В отличие от обычных кинотеатров, которые применяют проекторы, в зале Onyx изображение выводиться непосредственно на экран, при этом обеспечивая лучшее качество, чёткость и яркость картинки. Поскольку исчезает потребность в помещении для проекционного оборудования, остаётся больше пространства для зрителей: можно выделить дополнительные ряды, поясняют специалисты.

Сейчас лишь в некоторых странах мира, таких как США, Китай, Германия и Южная Корея, открылись отдельные кинотеатры на основе технологии Samsung Onyx, так что Miromax стал первым таким объектом не только в Украине, но и в Восточной Европе.

The official opening of the first in Eastern Europe LED-cinema Samsung Onyx took place in the capital of Ukraine

The first cinema of the future from the new Ukrainian network Miromax, which uses the unique LED technology Samsung Onyx, has been operating in the Kiev shopping and entertainment center "Aladdin" since November.

As noted in the press service of Samsung Electronics Ukraine, the uniqueness of this cinema lies in the revolutionary technology Samsung Onyx, which has no analogues in Ukraine, as well as in the maximum automation of service.

Unlike conventional cinemas that use projectors, Onyx displays images directly on the screen, providing better picture quality, clarity and brightness. Since the need for a room for projection equipment disappears, there is more space for the audience: additional rows can be distinguished, experts explain. 

Now, only in some countries of the world, such as the USA, China, Germany and South Korea, separate cinemas based on Samsung Onyx technology have opened, so Miromax became the first such facility not only in Ukraine, but also in Eastern Europe.

An important role in the implementation of this project is played by the location of the Miromax cinema - the Aladdin shopping and entertainment center, which is located next to the metro station in a densely populated area of Kiev, which should attract young people and families with children.

Since December 16, the Samsung Onyx hall at the new Miromax cinema has been hosting the first visitors to the premiere of the blockbuster "Wonder Woman: 1984".

At the same time, due to the coronavirus pandemic, strict precautions are being taken to ensure that cinema visits are comfortable and safe for viewers.

Benefits of the new Onyx technology:

• True black color for the best display of picture details and better contrast, as well as record brightness in the bright areas of the image;

Но некоторые посетители успели насладиться первым кинотеатром Dolby Cinema в Саудовской Аравии, а также первым светодиодным кинозалом Samsung Onyx на Ближнем Востоке и в Северной Африке (MENA). Остальные залы оснащены лазерными проекторами Barco.
"Luxury" является девизом U-Walk, где посетители могут воспользоваться четырьмя Muvi Suites. VIP опыт предлагает полностью лежачие места, обслуживается официантами и предлагает полноценное меню ресторанного уровня. В отеле Muvi Suites также есть собственный специальный лаундж и частный вход с парковкой. Те, кто хочет чего-то большего, может выбрать зал ScreenX U-Walk с дополнительной проекцией на стены.
Дизайн театра, по мнению обозревателя Эдона Куинна, "основан на теме городского центра города, с целью создания динамичного, современного и инновационного опыта. Theatrical industry magazine BoxOffice announced the awards ceremony for the best representatives of the industry in the EMEA region, the promotion of which is especially important in the midst of the pandemic and the rapidly deteriorating situation in the field of film distribution.
The movie theater industry is a global one, with theater operators able to gain insight and inspiration from the stories of their international brethren. To that end, Boxoffice Prois proud to feature profiles of this year’s ICTA EMEA Award winners, granted every year by the International Cinema Technology Association’s European branch to cinema operators displaying innovation and leadership in their approach to technology. Excellence in design, too, is evident, with this year’s trio of winners, who display a range of styles from old-school glamour to sleek modernity.
2020’s honorees fall into three categories: Classic Cinema, New Build Cinema, and Cinema Refurbishment, all in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region. In a joint statement, the ICTA’s international directors Till Cussmann, Oliver Pasch, and Jan Runge said that this year’s three cinemas “in different ways illustrate how innovation and continued diversification of the big screen experience help attract audiences and continue to set the cinema experience apart from home entertainment.” They added that, given the challenging situation theaters worldwide find themselves in, “we hope that the awards in a small and symbolic way support our operator partners’ efforts to reengage with audiences. Huge congratulations to the outstanding teams of Pathé Netherlands, Muvi Cinemas, and Cineplexx Group.”

New Build Cinema of the Year: Muvi Cinemas, U-Walk Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Muvi Cinemas was one of the first chains to enter Saudi Arabia following that country’s lifting of a decades-long restriction on public theaters. Since opening its first location in August 2019, the chain has expanded its reach to include a grand total of 10 cinemas in the country—including 2020’s New Build Cinema of the Year honoree, the U-Walk.
Located in Riyadh, the U-Walk opened on March 4, just over a week before cinemas in the country were ordered to shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Visitors were able to enjoy Saudi Arabia’s first Dolby Cinema as well as the first Samsung Onyx LED screen in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. All other screens are powered by Barco laser projectors.
“Luxury” is the watchword at U-Walk, with visitors able to avail themselves of four Muvi Suites, a VIP experience offering fully reclining seats, dedicated butler service, and a full food menu. Muvi Suites guests also have their own dedicated lounge and a private entrance with valet parking. Those who want something a little beyond the traditional screening experience can also choose to see a movie in U-Walk’s ScreenX auditorium.
The design of the theater, writes Muvi COO Adon Quinn, “is based on a theme of urban downtown, with an aim to create a dynamic, modern, and innovative experience. The internal spaces have been characterized by an industrial material palette, which includes timber, exposed steelwork, brickwork, graffiti artwork, and concrete flooring.” The Muvi Suites area boasts marble floors, wool carpets, timber paneling, and custom art.
The U-Walk welcomed audiences back once again starting June 21. Post-shutdown programming included Saudi Pro League soccer games (with select games selling out seven of the theater’s 13 screens, at 50% capacity), local language content, Hollywood blockbusters, and even pre-screening karaoke. Cinemas in Saudi Arabia have time for a lot of movies, notes Quinn, with some screenings beginning as late as 3:00 a.m., even on weekdays.

Второй на территории Украины кинозал Samsung Onyx откроется в Тернополе

Как мы сообщали ранее, первый в Восточной Европе ультрасовременный кинотеатр, оборудованный по технологии Samsung Onyx, был открыт в Киеве (Украина). Теперь местная пресса сообщает, что вслед за столицей страны подобный кинозал откроется в Тернополе.

По словам директора по развитию ТРЦ "Подоляны" Татьяны Чубак, это будет кинотеатр, который действительно заслуживают жители этого города.

Сейчас в торгово-развлекательном центре продолжаются ремонтные работы. Известно, что полностью или частично кинотеатр откроют до конца этого года. В частности, его готовят как один из подарков посетителям "Подолян" ко дню рождения торгового центра, который отмечают в середине декабря.

В интервью медиапорталу "Факты" Татьяна Чубак сказала, что новый кинотеатр будет значительно больше предыдущего, там будут установлены локеры для вещей, поэтому стоять в очередях в гардероб уже не придётся, что особенно важно в условиях пандемии.

Напомним, что в настоящее время кинозалы и даже целые мультиплексы, оснащённые технологией Samsung Onyx, действуют в 20-ти странах мира, включая Южную Корею, США, Китай, Мексику, Бразилию, Германию, Францию, Испанию, Индию, Колумбию, Саудовскую Аравию, Австралию и т.д.

В России до сих пор нет ни одного полностью цифрового кинозала с LED-экраном.

The second Samsung Onyx Cinema in Ukraine will open in Ternopil

As we recently reported, the first ultra-modern cinema in Eastern Europe equipped with Samsung Onyx technology was opened in Kiev (Ukraine). Now the local press reports that after the capital of the country a similar cinema will open in Ternopil. According to Tatiana Chubak, "Podolyany" shopping and entertainment center development director, this will be a cinema that the residents of this city really deserve.

Currently, this shopping and entertainment center is undergoing renovation work. It is known that the multiplex will be opened in full or in part by the end of this year. In particular, it is prepared as one of the gifts for the visitors of "Podolyany" for the birthday of the shopping center, which is celebrated in mid-December.

In an interview with the Fakty media portal, Tatiana Chubak said that the new cinema will be much larger than the previous one, and personal lockers for things will be installed there. Thanks to this solution, visitors will be spared from standing in line. This is especially important in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Recall that at present separate cinema halls and even entire multiplexes equipped with Samsung Onyx digital LED technology operate in 20 countries of the world, including South Korea, USA, China, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France, Spain, India, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, etc.

По итогам 2019 года Samsung Electronics вновь покорил глобальный рынок цифровых рекламно-информационных дисплеев и 11-й год подряд возглавляет топ-лист ведущих поставщиков в этом сегменте. 
По данным трэкера Omdia, опубликованным в минувший понедельник, доля Samsung Electronics на мировом рынке цифровых вывесок в прошлом году составила 27,3%. Таким образом, южнокорейский электронный гигант удерживает лидерство в этом бизнесе с 2009 года. Его доминирующее положение превышает совокупную долю второго, третьего и четвертого игроков вместе взятых, сообщает информационный портал PulseNews. 
Принятое в отрасли обозначение Digital Signage (цифровая вывеска) означает специально разработанный дисплей, установленный в общественном месте или коммерческом учреждении. Спрос на такие коммерческие витрины быстро растёт, так как многие магазины и общественные объекты стремятся к "оцифровке", чтобы оперативно и ярко предоставлять информацию и рекламу. 
Мировой рынок коммерческих дисплеев в 2019-м вырос примерно на 15% по сравнению с 2018-м годом и его оборот в 2020-м оценивается в 12,6 миллиарда долларов США. К 2023-му году эта цифра должна составить $15,2 миллиарда.

Samsung Electronics dominated the global digital signage (commercial display) market for the 11th straight year last year. 
According to market tracker Omdia on Monday, Samsung Electronics accounted for 27.3 percent in the global digital signage market last year, keeping to the lead since 2009. Its dominance outweighs the combined share of the second to fourth player. 
Signage is a display installed in a public place or commercial establishment. Demand for commercial displays is growing fast as many shops and public facilities go digital in the delivery of information and advertisement. 
The global digital signage market that grew about 15 percent on year last year is estimated at $12.6 billion this year and $15.2 billion in 2023. 
Samsung Electronics has built a diverse product portfolio, including `The Wall`, which simultaneously targets the commercial market (B2B) and home cinema (B2C) markets based on micro LEDs, and expansion of `Onyx`, which is a theater LED (cinema). Samsung Electronics supplies signage to a wide variety of customers worldwide, including large shopping malls, luxury resorts and hotels, subway stations, and sports venues.

In a shareholder’s meeting held on Mar. 18, Samsung Electronics said it will expand its signage business scope from hardware sales to end-to-end solutions that span project consulting and maintenance services. 
Meanwhile, according to a business report released by Samsung Electronics on Monday, the company’s total number of employees added 2,246 last year to a record 105,257. The company`s R&D spending amounted to a record 20.2 trillion won ($16.5 billion) last year, up 8.3 percent from 2018.

Первый 2D-экран серии Super S Samsung представил в июле 2017 года на южнокорейском рынке. Его ширина составляла 10 метров. Samsung Unveils the First Onyx Cinema LED Screen in Australia

Samsung Electronics unveiled its Onyx screen in Australia at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, Sydney, the first-ever in Australia. The new installment features Samsung’s latest 14-meter Onyx Cinema LED screen. Another 10-meter Onyx screen will also be installed at HOYTS Highpoint in Melbourne, Australia, by March 2020.

Разумеется, производители лазерных проекторов тоже не стоят на месте, и с каждым годом предлагают всё более совершенное оборудование, которое потребляет меньше энергии и почти не греется. Однако у кинозалов Onyx остаются неоспоримые преимущества, которые старая проекционная технология (ей уже более 120 лет) не преодолеет никогда: это искажения, вносимые оптикой (какая бы качественная и дорогая она ни была), невозможность отображения абсолютно чёрного на белом киноэкране, а также срок службы лазерных излучателей. В настоящее время лучшие лазерные проекторы гарантируют наработку на отказ (до момента замены дорогих лазерных модулей) не более 20.000 - 30.000 часов, в то время как экраны Onyx способны бесперебойно работать не менее 100.000 без ухудшения качества изображения. При этом замена небольших LED-панелей, из которых собирают большой экран Onyx, не требует много времени и тщательной юстировки, в отличие от проекторов.
Немаловажным фактором является и то, что залы Onyx можно дополнительно расширить на несколько рядов за счёт ликвидации проекционной будки, что повышает их коммерческую эффективность.
Американские владельцы кинотеатров предпочитают устанавливать оборудование Onyx Cinema в залах для VIP-клиентов, где имеются более комфортные кресла и предоставляются дополнительные услуги (как правило, персональная доставка еды для желающих перекусить во время просмотра). Конечно же такой сервис предполагает и более высокое качество кинопоказа, чего не могут предложить конкурирующие залы с обычными проекторами.
В настоящее время в Южной Америке открыто 2 кинотеатра Samsung Onyx: один в Колумбии (CineColombia в Каракасе) и один в Бразилии на базе мультиплекса Cinepolis в Сан-Паулу.

By the end of 2019, 75 LED cinema halls with Samsung Onyx technology will be open around the world

In an interview with the LA NACION newspaper (Argentina), Martin Hilgert, senior marketing manager of display products at Samsung Electronics, said that by the end of this year, the South Korean tech giant will open at least 75 halls with revolutionary Onyx cinema technology, which  based on large LED screens with record-breaking characteristics.
This interview was made during the presentation of Onyx for journalists of leading Latin American newspapers who gathered in the largest Brazilian city of São Paulo, where one of the first LED-cinema halls on the South American continent operates.
Currently, Samsung Onyx cinemas are already operating in 16 countries, including the USA, China, India, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Mexico, Spain and a number of others.
The world's first "movie theater without a projector" was opened in the summer of 2017 in Seoul (South Korea) based on the chic multiplex in Lotte World Tower, where a professional LED-cinema screen with a width of more than 10 meters and the latest JBL Sculpted Surround sound system from HARMAN (a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics) were installed.
The first cinema with the largest Samsung Onyx screen to date (its width exceeds 14 meters) was opened in Beijing (China) at the end of 2018.
In July 2019, the largest cinema in the Western Hemisphere with a 14-meter LED-screen Onyx was presented in Houston (USA).
Recall that the unique Samsung Onyx Cinema technology is several times superior to the best projection systems with laser emitters, guaranteeing unsurpassed color reproduction quality, high contrast, and also ideal deep black color, which is especially appreciated by moviegoers. It should also be noted the support for the HDR (High Dynamic Range) system and the amazing quality of work in 4K 3D, which allows you to immerse the viewer as much as possible in movie action. 
Samsung is the first and only global manufacturer and supplier of cinema LED equipment (including professional mastering studios). Sony tried to offer cinema networks a similar technology called Crystal LED, but was unsuccessful due to the excessively high price of its products. They say that the japanese will try to make the next attempt in 2-3 years. But by then Samsung would be far ahead of the competition.
Of course, manufacturers of laser projectors also do not stand still, and every year they offer more and more advanced equipment that consumes less energy and is almost not heated. However, Onyx cinema halls have undeniable advantages that the old projection technology, which is more than 120 years old, will never overcome: optical distortion, the inability to display completely black on a white movie screen, and also the shorter life of laser emitters. Now the best laser projectors guarantee operation (up to the moment of replacing expensive laser modules) for 20,000 to 30,000 hours, while Onyx screens can operate continuously for more than 100,000 hours. At the same time, replacing failed compact LED panels from which the Onyx large screen is assembled does not require a lot of time and careful setup, unlike projectors. An important factor is that Onyx cinema halls can be further expanded by several rows by eliminating the projection booth, which increases the commercial effectiveness of the cinema.
At present, owners of American cinemas prefer to install Onyx Cinema equipment in VIP-halls, where there are more comfortable seats and additional services are provided (as a rule, personalized food delivery for those who wish to have a snack while watching). Of course, such a service also implies a higher quality of film screening, which competing halls with ordinary projectors cannot offer.
Currently, two Samsung Onyx cinemas are open in South America: one in Colombia (CineColombia in Caracas) and one in Brazil based on the Cinepolis multiplex in São Paulo.

Samsung Onyx: a beautiful sight to behold

У кинопрокатных организаций неуклонно растёт спрос на новейшие профессиональные решения от Samsung, который на сегодняшний день является единственным поставщиком комплексных решений, включая не только LED-экраны, но и установки окружающего звука от известного американского производителя профессионального оборудования HARMAN (с марта 2017 года является дочерним подразделением Samsung Electronics).

Профильные СМИ сообщают, что у Samsung уже имеется целый пакет заказов на оборудование залов Onyx Cinema, включая Европу, США, Китай и т.д.

В одной только Индии к 2022 году будет функционировать порядка 40 LED-кинотеатров. Также интерес к дальнейшему расширению количества "залов без проектора" проявляют Израиль, Малайзия, страны Латинской Америки и т.д.

В настоящее время залы Onyx Cinema уже действуют на территории 17-ти стран, включая Южную Корею, Германию, Швейцарию, Австрию, Францию, США, Бразилию, Мексику, Колумбию и т.д.  

В России до сих пор не оборудовано ни одного зала Onyx и не имеется подтверждённых сведений об открытии таких кинотеатров в обозримой перспективе.

During April, the new Samsung Onyx cinema halls appeared not only in Malaysia, but also in India and Israel. By 2022, Samsung plans to significantly expand the network of Onyx cinemas. In India alone, approximately 40 such cinema halls will be opened. CinemaCon 2019: Samsung объявляет о заключении новых контрактов по развёртыванию кинотеатральных комплексов Onyx

В ходе крупнейшей в мире отраслевой выставки киноиндустрии CinemaCon 2019, проходившей с 1 по 4 апреля в Лас-Вегасе (США), корпорация Samsung Electronics сообщила о заключении новых контрактов на поставку самых передовых решений для кинотеатров - фирменных LED-экранов Onyx.
Согласно пресс-релизу южнокорейского техногиганта, новые залы, оборудованные системами Onyx Cinema LED, появятся в США и Израиле.
Судя по всему, американцы не хотят уступать Китаю, который пока удерживает первенство по количеству действующих залов Onyx (7).
В настоящее время в штате Калифорния действует 1 кинотеатр, оснащённый  иммерсивным LED-экраном от Samsung (если не считать второго экрана, установленного в одной из голливудских студий постпроизводства).
Однако вскоре ситуация будет меняться, и в США появятся ещё 2 кинозала Onyx. На очереди штат Техас, где в кинотеатре Star Cinema Grill (г. Ричмонд) будет установлен самый большой экран Samsung, шириной более 14-ти метров. Это 2-й в мире кинозал, где появится Onyx такого размера. Напомним, что впервые подобный экран был установлен в одном из центральных кинотеатров Пекина (декабрь 2018).
По замыслу кинопрокатной организации, заказавшей 14-метровый Onyx, экран будет установлен в роскошном VIP-зале с персональным обслуживанием посетителей официантами, если кто-то из клиентов захочет поужинать за просмотром новейшего блокбастера.
Другой кинозал, оборудованный 10-метровым экраном, заказан компанией HighRock Group, которая установит его в мультиплексе Warehouse Cinemas (г. Фредерик, штат Мэриленд). Причём впервые Samsung Onyx будет смонтирован в зале, оборудованном запатентованной технологией SkyVUE (экран с подвижным углом наклона для создания оптимального ракурса и перспективы во время просмотра фильмов).
Американские кинопрокатчики не скрывают своего оптимизма относительно сотрудничества с Samsung, поскольку самая лучшая на сегодняшний день технология кинопоказа без применения проекторов сулит хорошие коммерческие перспективы.
Как сообщается в пресс-релизе Samsung, LED-кинотеатр в Техасе откроется в июне, а более сложный в техническом аспекте зал в Мэриленде распахнёт свои двери в сентябре текущего года.
Также подтверждён заказ на установку Onyx Cinema LED в Израиле, который станет 17-й по счёту страной, где будет реализована технология цифрового кинематографа будущего.
В ближайшие месяцы количество кинозалов, оснащённых самыми передовыми решениями Samsung Onyx, превысит 50.

At CinemaCon 2019, Samsung Electronics is announcing the newest upcoming installations of its branded Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display, the world’s first DCI-compliant LED theatre display. Following the display’s showstopping unveiling at last year’s show, Samsung continues the momentum with three more confirmed installations for this coming year including two in the U.S. and one in Israel. As one of the largest and most influential gatherings for the worldwide motion picture theatre industry, Samsung is proud to maintain a prominent presence at CinemaCon.

Onyx Expansion in the U.S.

Samsung announced two upcoming Onyx installations at the Star Cinema Grill in Texas and at Warehouse Cinema by HighRock Group in Maryland. “Since our unveiling for the U.S. market at CinemaCon last year, Samsung Onyx has revolutionized the cinema experience globally,” said Nick Conti, Senior Business Development Manager for Cinema, Samsung Electronics America. “Today’s theatre expansion announcements in the U.S. showcase the praise and significant interest we have received from the industry since last year’s unveiling and we are very excited to work with these visionary exhibitors on successful installations this year.”
Star Cinema Grill will be introducing the 46 ft. (14m) wide Samsung Onyx p3.3 Cinema LED this summer at their newest location in Richmond, Texas. Star Cinema Grill in Richmond will be the company’s most advanced and luxurious theatre to date that will serve as the model concept going forward. The installation is slated to finish in June of this year and will be the first Samsung Onyx p3.3 Cinema LED in the Western hemisphere and only the second in the world.  Key to the success of this deal is the relationships Samsung built over the last year with Moving Image Technologies (“MIT”) and CSI Leasing (“CSI”). Coming this September, Warehouse Cinemas, a venture from HighRock Group, will be introducing the 33.5 ft. (10m) Samsung Onyx p2.5 Cinema LED at their flagship location in Frederick, Maryland. Samsung Onyx is a key technology included in Warehouse Cinema’s patent pending tilt technology, SkyVUE, which relies on angles and perspective for optimal movie viewing.  The design utilizes elevated, tilted screens to create comfortable, ergonomic positioning for both sloped and flat floors.
