Samsung представил Galaxy SmartTag+ — усовершенствованную версию своего Bluetooth-трэкера SmartTag, которая дополнена модулем сверхширокополосной связи для более точного определения позиционирования объекта на местности. Устройство поступит в продажу 16 апреля по цене $40, что на $10 дороже, чем базовый SmartTag.

Старт продаж SmartTag+ уже 16 апреля будет означать, что Samsung опередил Apple в выпуске трэкера с поддержкой сверхширокополосной связи. Apple применила  похожие чипы U1 в линейке смартфонов iPhone 11, которые были запущены ещё в 2019 году. Но трэкеров, способных работать с этой технологией, до сих пор нет. Samsung Electronics launches new Galaxy SmartTag+

Samsung Electronics announced on April 9 that it officially launches Galaxy SmartTag+, available starting on April 16. 

The TIZEN-powered Galaxy SmartTag+ is equipped with both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology so that it can pinpoint the location with greater accuracy. 

It also uses augmented reality (AR) technology to visually guide you towards where your missing item is located using your smartphone’s camera.

Galaxy SmartTag+, the newest iteration of Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, can be attached to everyday items, like a backpack or keychain, so they can be precisely and easily located through the SmartThings Find service on your Galaxy device. 

Locate your belongings visually with new AR Finder technology

Because Galaxy SmartTag+ is both BLE- and UWB-enabled, you can now use AR technology to find your missing item. 

The AR Finder guides you with an easy-to-follow interface on your UWB-equipped smartphone, such as Galaxy S21+ or S21 Ultra, which shows you how far away you are from your Galaxy SmartTag+ and points you in its direction. And once you’re closer to the tag’s location, you can choose to have it produce a loud ring so that even if it’s slipped under the sofa, you’ll have no trouble finding it.

Pinpoint your tag’s location, even when it’s far away

Galaxy SmartTag+ can also leverage SmartThings Find’s powerful detection capabilities, allowing you to locate tagged items on a map, even if it’s misplaced somewhere very far from where you are. That’s because the tags use BLE connectivity and the power of the Galaxy device network. 

SmartThings Find users can choose to opt in via the SmartThings app and enable their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others find their own lost tags or devices. 

Once you report your tag as missing in SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy device that has opted in will alert the SmartThings server about its location and you will receive a notification. All data in SmartThings Find is encrypted and protected, so the tag’s location isn’t revealed to anyone but you.

On top of that, Galaxy SmartTag+ and SmartTag are helpful for more than just locating lost possessions. Forgot to turn off your bedside lamp but you’ve already left the house? 

Rather than running back home, you can use your SmartTag+ or SmartTag to turn off the light remotely. Through the SmartThings app, you can choose different functions you would like your tag to complete when you press or hold down the tag button.

German owners of premium Samsung smartwatches have received the entire set of options promised by the manufacturer

Samsung has activated all of the announced features in Germany on its flagship Galaxy Watch 3 running on the TIZEN operating system, Computer Bild reports.

After a lengthy certification process by local regulators, owners of the South Korean tech giant's most up-to-date smartwatch gained access to important features such as electrocardiogram (ECG)* recording and fall detection in the event of a heart attack or loss of consciousness. Earlier, Galaxy Watch 3 users were able to measure blood pressure and determine the level of blood oxygen saturation. By default, with the purchase of the watch, basic functions such as heart rate measurement and physical activity detection through the universal Samsung Health app were already available.

Such a set of options opens up wide opportunities for the use of such advanced methods as telemedicine and remote consultation of a doctor (in those countries where such services are already available to patients, for example, in the USA and Great Britain).

Currently, the ECG monitoring function is available to owners of the latest Samsung smartwatches in more than 30 countries around the world.

Функция отправки экстренных сообщений (SOS) со смарт-часов Galaxy, ранее доступная только на Android-смартфонах Samsung, теперь запущена на девайсах с операционной системой TIZEN, сообщается на британском новостном сайте южнокорейского техногиганта. Владельцы часов серии Galaxy теперь смогут обратиться за экстренной помощью, оказавшись в опасной ситуации. Достаточно 3-х кликов на кнопке блокировки, чтобы информация о вашем местоположении и призывом о помощи была отправлена родственникам и (или) службам спасения.

Функция SOS позволяет автоматически звонить или отправлять текстовую информацию 4-м заранее выбранным абонентам, при этом не требуется набора номера.

После активации вы можете разослать предупреждение, трижды нажав на кнопку Home (она же кнопка блокировки). После этого часы немедленно отправят экстренное сообщение и ссылку на карту Google с указанием вашего местоположения. Эта опция также позволяет транслировать изображения с передней и задней камеры вашего смартфона, а также сделать пятисекундную аудиозапись с призывом о помощи.

Вот как вы можете активировать SOS-вызов на часах Samsung Galaxy:

1) Откройте приложение Galaxy Wearable.

2) Перейдите в раздел «Отправить экстренные сообщения» и коснитесь переключателя, чтобы запустить функцию передачи экстренных сообщений.

How to Activate SOS messages on your Samsung Galaxy Devices

The Samsung Galaxy SOS messages feature, which has been available on Samsung Galaxy smartphones since 2016, allows you to reach out for help if you find yourself in a situation where you do not feel safe and need to raise an emergency alert.

The feature enables you to auto-call and message up to four designated contacts without having to dial them.

Once activated, you can raise an alert by clicking your lock button three times. This will automatically send an SOS message and a Google map link of your location to your designated contacts. The feature also shares pictures from both the front and rear cameras of your smartphone, as well as a five-second audio recording.

Here’s how you can activate Samsung Galaxy SOS messages:

Samsung Galaxy smartphone[1]

1) Go to Settings.

2) Go to the Advanced Features, and select Send SOS messages.

3) You can select the recipient from your contact book or create a new contact, adding the mobile number for the recipient so they can receive your message

To disable this feature, follow the same steps above: Settings > Advanced Features > Send SOS messages > OFF.

Samsung Galaxy smart watch[2]

1) Open the Galaxy Wearable app

2) Go to Send SOSes, and then tap the switch to enable SOS messages

3) You’ll be asked to add an emergency contact. You can either create contact or select from contacts, and then add or create your designated contact.

 

Once activated, you can raise an alert by clicking your home button on your Samsung Galaxy smart watch three times. This will automatically send an SOS message followed by a link to your location.

If you would like the option of cancelling if activated accidentally, swipe to activate the Count down before sending feature, which waits five seconds before sending SOS messages and calls to allow them to cancelled.

To disable this feature, follow the same steps above: Open Galaxy Wearable app > Send SOSes > OFF.

Earlier in some countries, Samsung smartwatches gained access to the PITPAT application, which automatically calls an ambulance in case of a heart attack.

How Samsung's SmartTag Bluetooth trackers work (and how to buy them)

The SmartTag and SmartTag Plus are brand-new Bluetooth trackers announced alongside the three new Galaxy S21 phones. Here's what you should know.

For a start, SmartTags connect to SmartThings Find, a service that's already built directly into Samsung Galaxy phones -- SmartThings is Samsung's hub for smart home devices. There are also two different types of SmartTags, which makes things confusing right off the bat (don't worry, we'll explain below). 

Here's everything we know about Samsung's SmartTag so far (and what we don't), from the price and way it works, to how to figure out which SmartTag to buy.

Samsung SmartTag: What does it do?

Samsung's SmartTag is a small, battery powered device that you can attach to things like a wallet, backpack or even your pet.

Once it's set up and linked to your Samsung account, the tag can be found using the SmartThings Find app on your phone.

How do you use a SmartTag to find a lost item?

After you realize you've lost an item, open the SmartThings Find app on your smartphone. Next, you'll tap on the Find card, pick the device you want to locate and wait for it to load. 

If you're close to the lost item, you use the gauge on the screen to show how far away the item is. The fuller the gauge gets, the closer you are. To help you find the tag, you can make it play a sound.

If the tag isn't close to you, don't worry, it can still be found. Other Samsung devices near the tag will anonymously locate it for you, and then let you know where it is, all without the owner of the device doing a thing. It's done in the background and is encrypted to ensure privacy. 

Why are there two different types of SmartTags?

In a classic Samsung move, there are two different types of SmartTags. The first, which is available alongside the Galaxy S21 lineup, uses Bluetooth Low Energy as its connection standard. The other version, called SmartTag Plus, will use ultrawideband connectivity (UWB). 

There are two versions of the SmartTags, because not all Samsung Galaxy phones support UWB, but they do all support BLE. Only the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the Galaxy S21 Plus and S21 Ultra support UWB.

What's the difference between the two SmartTags?

Using the SmartThings Find app to locate tags that are equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy, you won't be able to see a tag's exact location, but an estimate of how far away or close it is. It's the same kind of tech that's used to stream music from your phone to your wireless earbuds or allow your phone to act as a key with a smart lock. 

With ultrawideband, your phone and the tag are able to talk to each other and estimate a more precise location, within a few inches. Using a series of short pulses, a UWB device can communicate measuring how long it takes for one of the pulses to be received and answered by another UWB device. In short, UWB is far more precise than BLE. 

Will both Bluetooth and UWB SmartTag models be available at the same time?

No. Samsung is launching the standard SmartTag first, with the UWB version SmartTag Plus launching later.

How much do SmartTags cost?

The SmartTag that's available for the Galaxy S21 launch is $30 for one, $50 for two and $85 for a four-pack. The UWB version will launch at $40 for one and $65 for a two-pack.

What is this bundle deal with a Galaxy S21?

If you preorder a Galaxy S21, you'll get one SmartTag for free, along with a credit that ranges from $100 to $200, depending on which S21 model you order. 

Will both tags work with every Galaxy phone?

No. Currently, the Galaxy S21 Plus, S21 Ultra and last year's Note 20 Ultra support the UWB SmartTag technology. All other Galaxy phones only support the BLE version of the SmartTag.

What else should I know?

The extra features of UWB mean that you can use a dedicated augmented reality mode in the SmartThings Find app that will help you pinpoint a tag's location in the real world, instead of using a gauge that fills in as you get closer to it. 

Using AR, you'll be able to hold up your phone and view exactly where the tag is, using a combination of your phone's camera and a graphic in the app to see the world around you.

Samsung and TikTok Launch TikTok App on Samsung Smart TVs in Europe

Samsung Electronics Ltd and TikTok are proud to announce a new app partnership that brings TikTok’s trending content into the home. TikTok will be exclusively available on Samsung Smart TVs[1] in Europe, launching first for UK customers today.

The new app has been specifically created for a home-viewing experience, allowing people to view the ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ feeds, as well as the majority of the most liked and viewed content on TikTok. This content has been organised into 12 categories covering everything from gaming and comedy, to food and animals. The entertainment doesn’t stop there though, as people can also view #LearnOnTikTok videos so they can get the latest cooking hacks, fitness tips, and fun facts that TikTok has to offer.

From today, TikTok can be accessed on all TIZEN-powered Samsung Smart TV models from 2018-2020 onwards[2] which include Samsung’s award winning 4K and 8K TVs as well as its Smart Monitor, The Premiere, The Frame and The Serif. TikTok can be easily downloadable via the Samsung Smart TV App Store and will now be pre-installed onto all new Samsung TVs purchased. Samsung и Apple не испытывают каких-либо сложностей, одновременно контролируя создание софта и проектирование аппаратной части, в то время как те компании, которые решили сэкономить за счёт лицензирования ОС у стороннего разработчика (то есть у Google), заведомо обрекают себя на постепенное отставание от конкурентов.

Forbes: More and more smartwatch manufacturers are moving away from the Android Wear

The rollercoaster of 2020 tech news has produced one more unexpected turn: the rumoured OnePlus Watch won’t be powered by Google’s Wear OS (ex-Android Wear). 

The news comes from reliable OnePlus leaker Max Jambor, who tweeted this weekend that the new wearable won’t carry Google’s software. Jambor later confirmed to 9To5Google that it won’t even use a skinned or modified version of Wear OS.

If accurate, OnePlus is headed in an entirely new direction for its first smartwatch. There’s good reason or this, too. Not only is there plenty of space for a competing wearable OS (in a way there isn’t for a new smartphone OS), it also means OnePlus can have the freedom to build the watch experience from the ground up, without being constrained by Google’s struggling platform. 

The features offered by Samsung’s TIZEN-powered Galaxy Watch 3 and Apple's Watch OS-powered Apple Watch far outstrip what’s on offer from Android-based wearables. Features like fall detection, comprehensive and in-depth health and fitness monitoring and extreme stuff - like blood oxygen sensors - aren’t widely available on Wear OS devices, if at all. The simple reality is that Apple and Samsung are pushing the industry forward and offering value for money based on an roll-call of new features.    

The question is: which way will the OnePlus Watch go?

Probably the new watch will follow OnePlus’ recent switch to cheaper products and dramatically undercut the competition. Especially in light of the current difficult economic circumstances. That might mean the device doesn’t pack high-end features like an ECG test or blood oxygen monitoring. But the move to using its own OS means we’ll almost certainly see some unique OnePlus-style abilities. 

The Chinese company has been quite open about its plans to build a connected suite of products, including TVs, headphones, a range of phones and now a watch. We’ll have to see what the Chinese company brings to the wearables table when the watch launches, which is rumoured to be next year.

Thus, there is a clear trend towards further marginalization of Android in the smartwatch business, despite some recent improvements to the OS. Many experts believe that even the possible purchase of Fitbit, one of the major manufacturers of wearable electronics, will not help Google to make Android Wear the dominant platform, as was the case with smartphones and tablets.

Максимальная гибкость при работе с камерой

Новейшее обновление делает работу с камерой Galaxy Fold ещё более гибкой.

Функция автоматического кадрирования (Auto framing) как настоящий оператор автоматически увеличивает или уменьшает кадр в зависимости от того, сколько людей находится перед камерой, чтобы камера Galaxy Fold захватила всё необходимое. Смартфон может отслеживать движение, чтобы удерживать объект съёмки в центре кадра.

Shooting with Auto framing is like having a dedicated cameraman always by your side. Depending on how many people are in front of the camera, the feature automatically zooms in or out to ensure the Galaxy Fold captures everything. It can even track motion to keep the subject centrally framed.

Capture View Mode gives you the option to check your shots as you shoot. It shows you up to five of the latest photos or videos on the left side of the Main Screen, while giving you a preview of your next shot on the other half.

Samsung Germany объявляет о начале программы публичного тестирования фирменного платёжного сервиса на территории ФРГ. В ходе испытаний услугами Samsung Pay смогут воспользоваться владельцы флагманских смартфонов серий Galaxy S (начиная с Galaxy S10) и Galaxy Note последних поколений. В случае отсутствия каких-либо проблем, после 28-го октября Samsung Pay будет активирован на всех остальных совместимых устройствах, включая смарт-часы.

Аналитики рынка мобильных платежей отмечают, что Samsung Pay пришёл в Германию с уникальными предложениями,  что выделяет его на фоне аналогичных сервисов от Apple и Google.
Помимо того, что смартфоны и некоторые модели смарт-часов Samsung имеют комбинированный MST/NFC модуль, позволяющий проводить бесконтактные платежи даже на терминалах прошлых поколений (только с магнитной картой), южнокорейский техногигант предложит уникальные возможности мобильного банкинга с максимальным охватом клиентской базы. Новация заключается в том, что в Германии Samsung Pay позволит обслуживать любой банковский счёт. Такая услуга пока не предоставляется ни в одной другой стране.
Обычно системы мобильных платежей работают следующим образом: Samsung, Apple или Google заключают сделки с отдельными банками в тех станах, где они запускают свой платёжный сервис. Это означает, что лишь клиенты этих конкретных банков смогут осуществлять транзакции посредством мобильных устройств. Иными словами, платёжные сервисы ограничены номенклатурой финансовых учреждений, которые согласились их поддерживать. Но в случае с немецкой версией Samsung Pay схема предоставления услуг выстроена иначе.
Samsung заключил партнёрские соглашения с Visa и местной финтех-компанией Solarisbank AG, чтобы максимально эффективно продвинуться на местном рынке. Samsung Pay in Germany launches with a unique feature

Aside from the MST tech that makes it compatible with even traditional magstripe terminals, Samsung is launching the service in Germany with a feature it has not made available anywhere else, making it practically possible to link any bank account to Samsung Pay.
The way mobile payment systems work is that companies like Samsung, Apple, or Google make deals with individual banks in countries where they are expanding. That means only customers of those banks will actually be able to take advantage of the phone-based payment system which, in turn, means the adoption of the service is also limited. Not a problem if you’re a giant that can strike up a deal with multiple banks all at once but Samsung seems to have thought of a different way around that.
In Germany, Samsung has partnered with Visa and fintech company Solarisbank AG to bring Samsung Pay to the country. It didn’t partner with a specific bank and is instead relying on Visa’s network to do the heavy lifting. When users sign up for Samsung Pay, Visa issues a virtual Visa debit card that can then be used to link to almost any German bank account.
This is an admittedly novel arrangement and it is also the first time Visa is providing this service in Europe. This could definitely make it easier to start using Samsung Pay, especially since Solarisbank’s sign-up process doesn’t require an in-person branch visit or even video identification. In addition, in the German version of Samsung Pay, you can purchase goods in installments on very attractive terms.
Samsung Pay in Germany is starting out as a beta service first, albeit an open beta one. The list of supported devices is limited to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships starting with the Galaxy S10 but excluding any Lite model. If all goes well, the service will be publicly available on October 28.

Samsung Electronics America начинает рассылку программного обновления для активации мониторинга ЭКГ и других дополнительных функций на TIZEN-часах Galaxy Watch Active2 и Galaxy Watch3

 

После долгих месяцев проволочек американский государственный регулятор FDA наконец-то разрешил активировать важные функции мониторинга физического состояния для владельцев смарт-часов Samsung последних поколений.

Так, например, вместе с апгрейдом до новейшей версии операционной системы TIZEN 5.5, прошлогодняя модель Galaxy Watch Active2 предоставит возможность снимать электрокардиограмму (ЭКГ), определять степень насыщенности крови кислородом, а также автоматически рассылать SOS-сообщения с указанием координат в случае падения при сердечном приступе или потере сознания.    

Фактически возможности Active2 сравняются с нынешними флагманскими моделями серии Watch3, стоимость которых почти в 2 раза больше.

Владельцам Active2 пришлось ждать более года, прежде чем столь важные функции стали доступны (пока только на территории Южной Кореи и США).

Для индустриальных инсайдеров не секрет, что американский регулятор в сфере здравоохранения и лекарственных средств FDA намеренно тормозил одобрение таких опций в часах Samsung, чтобы дать максимальные преференции местной корпорации Apple, которая до сегодняшнего дня имела эксклюзивные права на предоставление услуг по мониторингу ЭКГ в носимых устройствах. Совершенно очевидно, что технически не было никаких препятствий к тому, чтобы разрешить то же самое Samsung, как минимум, 9 месяцев назад. Однако протекционизм, присущий американцам (особенно при администрации нынешнего президента Трампа) даёт о себе знать.

Обычно все передовые функции мониторинга здоровья с помощью носимых гаджетов Samsung в первую очередь запускаются на территории США, и только после этого распространяются по миру. Но в этот раз всё было иначе. Лишь после того, как в августе Минздрав Южной Кореи (одной из самых передовых стран в области здравоохранения) выдал разрешение на использование в часах Galaxy описанных выше опций, FDI была вынуждена дать "добро", поскольку дальнейшие проволочки выглядели бы как очевидное подыгрывание Apple. Разумеется, из-за таких действий FDA южнокорейский техногигант не мог нарастить свою рыночную долю в США (крупнейшем мировым  потребителем носимых гаджетов), что негативно сказывалось на его бизнесе в этом сегменте. И это при том, что Samsung обладает гораздо большими компетенциями в области создания медицинского оборудования, чем его американский конкурент.

Напомним, что Samsung давно является одним из ведущих производителей сложного диагностического оборудования для клиник, а также имеет в своём распоряжении ультрасовременный медицинский центр, где в течение многих лет лучшие врачи испытывают и внедряют передовые решения в тесном взаимодействии с инженерами-разработчиками из соответствующего подразделения Samsung Electronics. Поэтому проволочки с одобрением полноценного использования смарт-часов 

Galaxy со стороны FDA иначе как откровенным саботажем назвать нельзя.

Тем не менее, монополия Apple на мониторинг критически важных физических показателей наконец-то разрушена и в ближайшие месяцы на территории нескольких наиболее развитых стран эти функции будут активированы (только для владельцев смартфонов Samsung Galaxy).

При этом не следует забывать, что ни Apple Watch, ни Samsung Watch не являются заменой полноценному медицинскому обследованию. Эти смарт-устройства способны просигнализировать вам о потенциальной угрозе здоровью (что весьма важно), но точно установить диагноз могут только квалифицированные врачи, использующие профессиональное оборудование.

На территории РФ функции мониторинга ЭКГ и артериального давления ни в устройствах Apple, ни в устройствах Samsung не действуют.

Конечно, при соответствующей технической подготовке вы можете перерегистрировать свои часы и смартфон на использование американского магазина приложений, запустив указанные функции. Но тогда вам нужно смириться с тем фактом, что все данные будут отображаться на английском языке, а снятые показания будут обрабатываться на американских серверах, обслуживающих сервис мониторинга физической активности Samsung Health. 

FDA-Cleared Electrocardiogram Monitor App is Available in the US Starting Today on Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2

The release of Galaxy Watch3 kicked off a new era of wearable innovation, bringing together luxurious aesthetics, cutting-edge technology, and an expansive suite of tools for monitoring your fitness and overall wellness. Beginning September 23,(1) people in the US will have access to yet another next-generation feature, as on-demand electrocardiogram (ECG) readings come to Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2.(2)

This tool recently received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and will soon be available through the Samsung Health Monitor app when connected to a compatible Galaxy smartphone. The new ECG Monitor app allows users to monitor their heart rhythm for irregularities, scanning for signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib).(3)

To use the ECG Monitor app, simply take a seat, open up the new Samsung Health Monitor app, and ensure your watch is snug your wrist. Rest your arm on a flat surface, place your fingertip on the top button, and your watch will record an ECG and classify it as either Sinus Rhythm, or AFib.

Once the reading is complete, users can record relevant symptoms like fatigue or dizziness, and send a PDF report of their ECG recording with their healthcare provider using the Samsung Health Monitor app on a compatible Galaxy smartphone.

In addition to ECG monitoring, you can also conveniently track oxygen saturation on Galaxy Watch3. This feature can help users get a sense of how well their respiratory system is transferring oxygen into the bloodstream for fitness or other general wellness purposes.(4)

Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner, or just looking to get back into shape, this device also features tools for taking your training to the next level. A new digital running coach offers real-time feedback on pace and form, as well as detailed post-workout reports to improve performance and reduce injury. Post-workout VO2 max reports also allow users to effortlessly track their cardio fitness progress, measuring the amount of oxygen your body can utilize when running outside.(5)
