С развитием TCU, позволяющих реализовать самые разные задачи в автомобиле, всё более важное значение приобретают коммуникационные технологии, которые способны передавать ещё большие объёмы данных на ещё более высоких скоростях. В 2019 году Samsung Electronics представил первый в мире телематический блок управления, подготовленный для работы в сетях 5G, а сегодня техногигант обратил внимание на технологии миллиметрового диапазона сетей 5G (mmWave). Когда дело доходит до предоставления водителю большого объёма дорожной информации в режиме реального времени и внедрении сервисов подключённых автомобилей, важнейшим фактором становится способность сетей 5G mmWave обеспечить передачу больших объёмов данных на высоких скоростях.

Ультравысокие скорости, ультранизкие задержки и ультраширокие сетевые возможности для современных подключённых автомобилей

Телематические блоки управления позволяют предоставлять водителю информацию о дорожных условиях и используют высокоскоростное подключение к Интернету для отображения высококачественного контента. В процессе разработки модулей TCU с поддержкой сетей 5G инженеры Samsung пришли к выводу, что технологии 5G mmWave, позволяющие уменьшить сетевые задержки при передаче данных до минимума и способные охватить сразу множество транспортных средств, будут необходимы для обеспечения быстрой связи между автомобилями, пешеходами и объектами дорожной инфраструктуры.

Технологии 5G mmWave работают с полосой пропускания от 100МГц до 1 ГГц, что более чем в 10 раз превышает используемые сегодня полосы пропускания в 5-100 МГц, которые доступны в большинстве решений беспроводной связи, работающих в диапазоне ниже 6ГГц. Samsung, с самого начала осознавший безграничные возможности миллиметрового спектра, приступил к передовым исследованиям в области высокоскоростной цифровой передачи данных на сверхвысоких частотах ещё в 2009 году и вот уже более 10 лет работает над тем, чтобы сделать технологии 5G реальностью.

Скоростная передача больших объёмов данных за счёт использования диапазона mmWave и технологии формирования луча (Beamforming)

Для эффективной передачи и приёма данных в миллиметровом диапазоне сетей 5-го поколения инженеры Samsung использовали антенную решетку с технологией формирования луча. Эта технология позволяет сконцентрировать антенные лучи в определённом направлении для увеличения мощности передаваемого сигнала. Подобный приём сводит к минимуму нежелательные помехи, увеличивает зону покрытия в режиме передачи и позволяет отправлять и получать данные на сверхвысоких скоростях за счёт более стабильных соединений и более быстрой передачи, даже когда транспортное средство находится в движении. Для достижения этого, Samsung провёл множество экспериментов и масштабных испытаний, прежде чем разработать оптимальный дизайн и, в конечном итоге, представить телематический блок управления с поддержкой сетей mmWave 5G.

Compact Macro, базовая станция Samsung для работы в диапазоне mmWave, получила 1024 антенных элемента и поддерживает максимально чёткое и точное формирование лучей. mmWave 5G TCU is Enabling New In-Vehicle Experiences

From safety solutions that alert you of hazards while driving, to technology that allows passengers to view concerts from the comfort of their vehicles, a whole new wave of connected vehicle technologies is right around the corner. However, to enjoy various experiences on the move, vehicles must be equipped with telematics control units (TCUs) to allow faster data communication in the vehicle.

As the advancement of TCU technology makes an increasing number of in-vehicle activities possible, the communications technology that allows large volumes of data to travel at faster speeds is becoming increasingly important. Samsung Electronics introduced the world’s first 5G-ready TCU in 2019, and now it has turned its attention to 5G mmWave. When it comes to providing large quantities of road information to the driver in real-time and implementing connected-car services, the ability of 5G mmWave to facilitate the transmission of large volumes of data at rapid speeds is crucial.

Newsroom looks into Samsung’s innovative efforts to bring the Automotive mmWave 5G TCU to vehicles.

Ultra-high Speed, Ultra-low Latency and Ultra-connectivity for Connected Vehicles

TCUs capable of tapping into 5G can provide information on the road to the driver while also utilizing rapid internet speeds to enable high quality content to be displayed. While it was working on developing the 5G TCU, Samsung came to the conclusion that 5G mmWave, which reduces data transfer latency to a minimum and is capable of covering a lot of vehicles at once, would be necessary to enable prompt communication between vehicles, pedestrians and infrastructure.

5G mmWave offers 100MHz to 1GHz of bandwidth, which is more than 10 times wider than the 5 to 100MHz of bandwidth currently offered by most wireless communication solutions operating on sub-6GHz spectrum. Samsung, having realized the unlimited possibilities of mmWave spectrum from the outset, has worked on making 5G a reality for more than ten years, starting with the frontier research regarding high-speed digital transmissions at ultra-high frequencies in 2009.

Based on such efforts, the wider bandwidth offered by mmWave allows large amounts of data to be transmitted more quickly, enabling users to seamlessly make use of real-time road information and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. However, the establishment of this technology required differentiated antenna positioning and a TCU design that would ensure stable communication due to high penetration losses, high propagation losses and the ease with which signals are blocked by obstacles.

Mass Data Transmission Achieved with mmWave and Beamforming Technology

In order to efficiently transmit, receive and utilize 5G mmWave, Samsung utilizes array antenna beamforming technology. Beamforming technology allows antenna beams to be concentrated in a certain direction and transmitted powerfully. This technology minimizes unwanted interference, increases transmission coverage and enables data to be both sent and received at ultra-high speeds through more stable connections and faster transmission, even when the vehicle is moving. To achieve this, Samsung underwent a lot of trial and error and extensive testing before producing a feasible circuit design and, eventually, establishing the mmWave 5G TCU.

Compact Macro, Samsung’s mmWave base station, has 1,024 antenna elements and supports sharp and precise beamforming. The 5G Compact Macro offers seamless connectivity to high-speed cars driving at 200 km/h, successfully delivering the full benefits of 5G to users.

Beamforming has been optimized through field testing in which the technology was implemented in real vehicles. An optimized heat sink structure was implemented by conducting current energy consumption and heat radiation tests to make sure the TCU would still work in extremely hot or cold temperatures.

The New Experiences Enabled by the mmWave 5G TCU

5G mmWave array antenna beamforming technology is expected to deliver a solution with great potential. When the Automotive mmWave 5G TCU for vehicles is commercialized, rapid and stable communications will enable a whole new world of improved in-vehicle services. What’s more, users will be able to enjoy both safe and entertaining driving, in addition to enhanced V2X (Vehicle to Everything) services.

One of the most anticipated vehicle functions that is expected to be brought closer to realization due to the establishment of the mmWave 5G TCU is complete autonomous driving. This is because real-time communication with no delay in data transmission allows you to be aware of road conditions in advance and prepare for unexpected situations. In addition, the technology will enable use cases such as vehicle platooning and the remote driving of unmanned vehicles. When a driver is driving their vehicle themselves, a quick risk warning service and high-definition road images transmitted with ultra-low delay will further assist in making driving safer.

And opportunities for passengers to access entertainment will be more abundant as well. Traveling will no longer have to feel tedious when mmWave services such as UHD 8K video streaming are made available from all seats in buses and taxis. But the entertainment options won’t be limited to video streaming, with this technology also allowing viewers to access content such as games, live concerts and events, and other brand new multimedia services that utilize VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality). We look forward to watching 5G TCU technology contribute to transforming the in-vehicle experience for users.

[Monday, 5 PM] Customized Culinary Journeys

Looking to plan out the family’s meals for the week, Dad turns to his Family Hub’s one-stop Cooking Board. SmartThings Cooking’s Meal Planner automatically suggests a full week’s worth of delicious meals based on the family’s preferences and the ingredients they have in their fridge. With a few quick taps, Dad is able to create a grocery shopping basket straight from the recipes and conveniently complete payment through his usual online retailer.1

The family’s meals planned out for the week, Dad turns his attention to their meal for that evening. Considering what they have already eaten that week and the ingredients they have in the house, Family Hub recommends a sumptuous chicken pasta bake. Once he has completed his meal prep, he selects “Cook Mode” on his Family Hub screen to receive step-by-step instructions. When it is time to turn on his oven, the appropriate temperature and timing settings are transmitted to his Samsung smart oven with a tap of the “Send to Oven” button.

About to head home for the day, Mom opens the SmartThings app on her smartphone and sees that the family’s meals for the week are all ready to go. She is excited to see that she has a delicious pasta bake to look forward to when she gets home!

[Tuesday, 3:30 PM] Enriching Precious Family Moments

Jenny, the youngest child, goes to the Family Hub to show off the first photos she took all by herself on its screen, proudly displaying them for her family to see and decorating her display with images and stickers. By accessing the Family Hub device plug-in within the mobile SmartThings app, users can quickly and easily add photos to their large 21.5-inch Family Hub screen for all their loved ones to enjoy.

Mom arrives in the kitchen, ready to prepare dinner. She sees Jenny’s photos, smiles, and swipes to the Cooking Board to see what’s for dinner. Checking the recipe on the screen, she begins preparing the ingredients and sets the oven to the allocated pre-heat temperature by pressing “Send to Oven.”

[Tuesday, 6 PM] Making the Kitchen Fun

Time to start cooking! Using the Family Hub’s internet browser, Mom pulls up an online cooking tutorial to remind herself how to prepare the meal.  That done, she uses one-touch Mirroring from her smartphone to play a video for the family’s youngest child and keep them entertained while herself and her eldest child prepare the meal.

When Dad arrives home, he comes in to find his family all happily cooking together and nodding along to some great cooking tunes.

[Tuesday, 10 PM] A Smarter and Safer Space

With the dishes all done, it’s time for the family to retire for the night. Dad goes to the Family Hub to check that all of the family’s appliances are set to their appropriate modes for the night. The Family Hub also lets him know that the temperature is set to drop significantly that night, allowing him to set the thermostat to the right temperature to keep his family comfortable. Before heading to bed, Dad uses the SmartThings Video Widget to check that the house’s internal and front door cameras are working well, ensuring that his family will rest safe and secure.

Samsung Electronics shared its vision for the future at the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The company introduced new products at its virtual press conference, showing how it’s continuing to innovate by creating solutions that are flexible, intelligently connected, and use AI to understand context to make daily life seamless.

“Our world looks different, and many of you have been faced with a new reality–one where, among other things, your home has taken on a greater significance,” said Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research, the advanced R&D hub of the company that leads the development of future technologies for Samsung Electronics’ SET (end-products), addressing the company’s efforts to enhance the at-home technology experience. “Our innovations are designed to provide more personal and more intuitive experiences that express your personality. We’re hard at work to bring you next-generation innovation, with AI as the core enabler, for your better tomorrow.”

Creating More Intimate and Personalized User Experiences

As people spent more time at home last year, the tech they wanted became the tech they needed. In relying on that tech, people came to understand many ways connected solutions could make life easier. TVs were vital for entertainment—and sometimes, fitness. Chromebooks became crucial home learning tools. Smart fridges helped with remote shopping and meal prep. Smartphones were indispensable.

Samsung’s continued investments in innovations that adapt to evolving lifestyles enable the company to keep pace with rapid changes. Key innovations unveiled include:

* Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex: The latest version of the Bespoke refrigerator features changeable panels that come with a choice of colors and materials that made the original a success, allowing consumers to adjust their fridge for form and function. By bringing AI to its products, Samsung is creating new home experiences—from washing machines that optimize water usage, detergents, and wash cycles, to TVs with a Quantum AI Processor that can upscale HD content into pristine 8K resolution.

* JetBot 90 AI+: Coming to the US 1H 2021, this new vacuum cleaner uses object recognition technology to identify and classify objects to decide the best cleaning path. LiDAR and 3D sensors allow JetBot 90 AI+ to avoid cables and small objects, while still cleaning hard-to-reach corners in your home. Also outfitted with a camera, JetBot 90 AI+ is integrated with the SmartThings app to assist you with home monitoring.

* Samsung Bot™ Care5: The latest development in Samsung’s growing robotics lineup, Samsung Bot™ Care is designed use AI to recognize and respond to your behavior. Looking to the future, Samsung is also developing other tangible applications of AI technologies for daily life. Samsung is continuing to build on its Samsung Bot™ Retail, which would guide users outside the home in retail environments, and GEMS, Samsung’s health-focused exoskeleton as mobility aide. В рамках онлайн-версии выставки CES 2021, Samsung, совместно со своим дочерним американским подразделением HARMAN, представил концептуальное решение новейшей версии смарт-кабины Digital Cockpit премиального класса, которую альянс намерен предложить автопроизводителям для их будущих моделей электромобилей.

Последние модели умных часов Galaxy оснащены 8-сегментными датчиками от американской компании Texas Instruments, которые также позволяют измерять уровень кровяного давления, снимать ЭКГ и определять уровень насыщения крови кислородом. Digital Cockpit 2021 может одновременно работать как с ОС Android, так и с Linux, использует фирменный процессор Samsung Exynos Auto V9, который оснащён встроенным модемом 5G (до 6 ГГц и mmWave), GPS и Wi-Fi.
