50 лет инноваций: киевский филиал Samsung R&D Institute отмечает юбилей техногиганта реализацией программы «Украинское внутри»

Samsung Electronics в настоящее время представлен ​​в 73 странах мира, где работает более 320.000 сотрудников. Каждый 5-й сотрудник - в одном из 35-ти центров разработок и исследований Samsung Research, ведь лидерство и инновации были бы невозможны без инвестиций в технологии будущего. Один из центров Samsung R&D работает в Украине с 2009 года. При поддержке Samsung R&D в Украине реализуется немало проектов. Один из них - «Украинское внутри» - национальный конкурс, целью которого является поддержка украинской национальной IT-индустрии и создание уникального локального контента. Конкурс проходил несколько лет назад и участники имели возможность создать специальные приложения для операционных систем TIZEN (для смарт-часов Samsung Gear S2) и Android (для боковой грани edge-моделей смартфонов, электронного пера S Pen или с использованием функции многооконного режима), а также платформы Oculus Mobile (для очков виртуальной реальности Gear VR). Победители представили Украину на международном уровне инновационных разработок и поделили приз в 1 миллион гривен для создания собственного успешного бизнеса.
Присоединиться к сообществу профессиональных разработчиков могут даже выпускники высших учебных заведений без опыта работы. В Samsung уже давно отказались от найма сотрудников «по знакомству», сделав ставку на талантливую молодёжь, которую можно обучить самостоятельно. Поэтому в 2012 году украинским представительством Samsung R&D была запущена программа по отбору и развитию перспективной молодёжи.
Стажировки могут пройти студенты 3-6 курсов. Их продолжительность составляет от 3-х до 18-ти месяцев. Работу в центре удобно совмещать с учёбой, поскольку студентам предлагается гибкий график (необходимо отработать 20 часов в неделю). Ежегодно в программе принимает участие около 40 молодых людей, 30 из которых остаются работать на постоянной основе в качестве инженеров.
Также сотрудники института имеют возможность получить дополнительное образование на базе Киевского политехнического института, Национального университета им. Тараса Шевченко или Киево-Могилянской академии, поскольку корпорация подписала меморандум о сотрудничестве с этими ведущими украинскими учебными заведениями.
Достижения украинской команды Samsung R&D уже отмечены международными наградами, в том числе за решения на базе искусственного интеллекта в сфере автомобилестроения. Эта разработка применяется для обнаружения пешеходов при автономном вождении и для снижения числа аварийных ситуаций на дорогах.

50 years of innovation: the Kiev branch of the Samsung R&D Institute celebrates the anniversary of the techgiant with the implementation of the "Ukrainian Inside" program

Samsung Electronics is currently represented in 73 countries around the world, with more than 320,000 employees. Every fifth employee works at one of thirty-five Samsung Research research and development centers. And this is not surprising, since innovative leadership is impossible without an investment in future technologies. The corporation’s daily R & D expenses amount to about $ 40.7 million, or $ 15 billion annually.
As part of the concept of “We shape the future with innovation and intelligence,” Samsung Research is actively pursuing research to determine future growth directions in order to create new values and improve people's lives. For many years, Samsung Research has been a pioneer in technology.
For example, such directions as 4G LTE, 5G, TIZEN OS, HEVC (high-performance video coding) and LED Display technology can be mentioned.
In general, Samsung Research's main research topics include artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, intelligent machines, next-generation communications and media, TIZEN OS, and security. In addition, R & D extends its interests to promising industries based on artificial intelligence technologies.
One of the Samsung R & D centers has been operating in Ukraine since 2009.
This local research center covers the following areas: computer vision; next generation of interfaces based on 3D graphics and recognition technologies; programs for creating and using new types of multimedia content; Information Security; Artificial Intelligence; natural language processing; human-computer interaction; search for information; computational intelligence.
Ukrainian specialists can work with the future technologies - prototypes and software of the next generation.
With the support of Samsung R & D, many projects are being implemented in Ukraine. One of them - “Ukrainian inside” - is a national competition, the goal of which is to support the Ukrainian national IT industry and create unique local content. The competition was held several years ago and the participants had the opportunity to create special applications for TIZEN operating systems (for Samsung Gear S2 smart watches) and Android (for EDGE models of smartphones, S Pen electronic pen or using the multi-window function), as well as the Oculus platform Mobile (for Gear VR). The winners presented Ukraine at the international level of innovative developments and divided the prize of 1 million hryvnia to create their own successful business.
Join the community of professional developers can even graduates of higher educational institutions without work experience. Samsung has long refused to hire employees "by acquaintance", making a bet on talented young people who can be trained independently. Therefore, in 2012, a program for the selection and development of promising young people was launched by the Ukrainian office of Samsung R & D.
Internships can take students 3-6 courses. Duration ranges from 3 to 18 months. It is convenient to combine work in the center with studies, since students are offered a flexible schedule. About 40 young people take part in the program annually, 30 of whom remain to work on a full-time basis as engineers.
Also, employees of the institute have the opportunity to receive additional education on the basis of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute, the Taras Shevchenko National University or the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, since the corporation has signed a memorandum of cooperation with these leading Ukrainian educational institutions.
The achievements of the Ukrainian Samsung R & D team have already received international awards, including for solutions based on artificial intelligence in the automotive industry. This development is used to detect pedestrians during autonomous driving and to reduce the number of emergency situations on the roads.

Samsung запускает 6 экспериментальных сериалов, отснятых в формате виртуальной реальности для владельцев Gear VR

Samsung является лидером мобильных VR-технологий, неоднократно отмеченных престижными наградами, продолжает наращивать развитие этого направления.
Чтобы стимулировать рост продаж гарнитур виртуальной реальности, Samsung запустил специальную программу под названием Pilot Season. Она направлена на то, чтобы заинтересовать кинематографистов создавать контент в VR-формате. В рамках этой инициативы подразделение Samsung Electronics America представило по одной пилотной серии сразу 6-ти экспериментальных киносериалов.

Создатели этих сериалов были предварительно отобраны менеджерами Samsung и получили гранты на съёмки, а также возможность использовать профессиональные 3D VR-камеры Samsung 360 Round. Если представленный контент заинтересует потребителей, корпорация продолжит финансирование команд его создателей.

Samsung Launches New Initiative “Pilot Season” to Ignite Exclusive Episodic VR Content in Samsung VR Video

Pilot Episodes for Six Exclusive Original Series Launch Today on Samsung VR Video service on Gear VR

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a leader in mobile VR with its award-winning Gear VR headset, launched Pilot Season, a new initiative aimed at infusing exclusive original episodic Virtual Reality (VR) content into the Samsung VR Video service. Pilot Season adds to the company’s efforts in expanding VR content offerings while driving growth within the independent VR filmmaker community.
Through the program, a select set of indie filmmakers received a grant from Samsung to create original VR episodes and were offered the opportunity to utilize the 360 Round camera, Samsung’s professional 360-degree camera. In addition, filmmakers receive exclusive distribution via a dedicated channel on the Samsung VR Video service.
To find the Pilot Season debut episodes, with a Samsung Gear VR with Controller, powered by Oculus, coupled with a compatible Galaxy device such as Galaxy S9 or S9+, head to the Oculus store and navigate to Samsung VR Video service. Within the service, users will find the Pilot Season in the “Featured” section.

*“&Design” (Sibling Rivalry and Curious Octopus)

An original episodic series about design that will change the way we look at the world. The series presents design in its intersection with science, technology and anthropology, weaving an array of items that link each episode by a universally humanistic theme. With renowned and charismatic design curator Paola Antonelli as our guide, the series will take audiences on a captivating, fun, and often surprising journey around the globe to reveal the stories of different projects and the Artists behind them. From designed objects we rely on but rarely think about, to bizarre inventions, to artifacts from other cultures, “&Design” will invite us to see the world in a new way.

*“Bro Bots” (Breaking Fourth)

A scripted sci-fi comedy series in VR, set in a New York City of the future. In the not-so-distant future… robots are everywhere. They talk like us. They walk like us. And they have really big personalities. Two British robots – Otis and Roberto – arrive in New York and join the NYPD. Otis acts like a Downton Abbey butler. Roberto is rough and tough, from the other side of the tracks. They are best friends. Bro Bots is an irreverent, quirky, VR buddy-comedy series.

*“The Interpretation of Dreams” (Graham Sack & Sensorium)

In 1899, Sigmund Freud published his magnum opus, The Interpretation of Dreams, which shocked the world and forever changed our understanding of dreams and the unconscious mind. This episodic narrative fiction series reimagines each of Freud’s original case studies — “the Ratman”, “Dora”, “Anna O”, “Irma’s Injection” — as visually luxurious, psychologically complex, and emotionally haunting immersive VR dreamscapes. Each episode unfolds as a mystery to be solved. A patient arrives afflicted by a mysterious symptom — insomnia, recurring nightmares, the inability to speak or swallow. In search of a cure, the viewer enters their dreams, which are populated by symbolic objects and characters with hidden meanings. Federico Fellini famously called film “a dream we dream with our eyes open.” VR provides a vast new vocabulary for the exploration and visualization of the unconscious, from the construction of surreal landscapes to the distortion of time, space, perception, and physical law. *“Lightcatcher” (Occupied VR, RSA VR)

Explore subterranean caves, soar in zero-gravity and grapple sky high canyon walls. Lightcatcher is a young adult adventure saga that brings you on a journey combining elements of adventure, romance and sci-fi. The series is designed as a virtual reality franchise that will captivate a new generation of fans.

 *“Sam’s Surreal Gems” (RSA VR, Hey Wonderful)

Set in a collection of real world locations, this fresh, funny and irreverent VR series directed by Sam Cadman challenges its viewers to spot eight surreal and unexpected Easter eggs hidden within each episode. Sam’s Surreal Gems is the antithesis of overly familiar futuristic and fantastical VR, rather, this series will celebrate the truly entertaining and wonderfully funny possibilities within the real world already around us. Each set of surreal gems will have been carefully rehearsed and seamlessly choreographed so as to happen in a single uninterrupted take lasting no more than 2-3 minutes. These gems will be arranged so that they build in spectacle and scale, as well as darting around all 360 degrees of the VR space. The same troupe of actors will appear in each location/episode – playing their characters with a natural and understated ease.

 *“Voyages – Pilot” (Kaleidoscope)

A virtual reality animation that takes you on an epic journey from birth to death. Comprised of six distinct movements, “Voyages – Pilot” guides you through the emotional arc of an entire life. Experience what it feels like to be born, to grow up, to grow old, and to eventually die. The pilot features original music from Amon Tobin, Little Dragon, Jonny Greenwood, Elliot Cole and Roomful of Teeth.

360 Round for Filmmakers

360 Round offers those working professionally with 360 and VR video a unique solution for content creation, with the ability to capture and livestream content in a variety of conditions. Its compact, unibody design features 17 cameras that capture crisp, realistic images – even in low light conditions. With IP65 certification[1], users can take the camera into rainy or windy weather.
Samsung recently enhanced 360 Round by adding a new mobile app allowing for preview of content and remote controls for the camera. Other announcements included making several improvements to the livestreaming and post production process, including real time calibration of stitch lines, and color and light correction capabilities. In addition, filmmakers can now upload 360 Round content directly to the Samsung VR Video creator portal.
