После долгих ожиданий Samsung зарегистрировал патент на раздвижной OLED-телевизор

О патентной заявке на раздвижной OLED-телевизор с гибким экраном мы рассказывали ещё несколько лет назад, когда ресурс Samsung World выходил на платформе LiveJournal. Теперь стало известно, что документы, наконец, зарегистрированы американским патентным ведомством USPTO (№10162387) в качестве собственности южнокорейского техногиганта на указанное изобретение.
В отличие от прототипов компании LG, которые сворачивают "в трубочку" экран, спрятанный в горизонтально расположенном корпусе, инженеры Samsung применили более изящное вертикальное решение. Экран такого телевизора раскрывается, подобно театральному занавесу, а свёртывание/развёртывание OLED-дисплея происходит за счёт работы двух "катушек", расположенных справа и слева. Это позволило сделать корпус более компактным, в отличие от конструкции LG.
С учётом того, что к 2020 году Samsung планирует запуск сильно модернизированных OLED-дисплеев с применением технологии квантовых точек, такое решение вполне может реализоваться в коммерческом продукте.
Поначалу это наверняка будет ультрапремиальный TV с высокой ценой, хотя в дальнейшем можно ожидать появления гораздо более доступных моделей.

Samsung gets a patent on a rollable TV

Beginning of this year LG demonstrated a 65-inch rollable TV at CES 2018. If we may believe the latest rumors this revolutionary device will go on sale in 2019. Of course, competitor Samsung can’t lag behind. A recently published patent unveils that we may soon see a very stylish rollable TV from Samsung.
Samsung Electronics has filed a patent with USPTO for a ‘rollable display device’. The patent was published on 25 December 2018. Samsung’s rollable TV has a completely different design than that of LG. Samsung’s design can roll-out to the left and right instead of upwards.
The Samsung TV has a stylish lifestyle design which you can easily place in any desired location and just as easily roll up again for transport. The television with flexible display is supported by a stand, which is placed vertically in the middle. This keeps the screen nice and flat, to avoid any image distortion. A very ingenious design.
A housing with a roller is placed on both sides of the flexible display. The system works a bit like a roller blind. The rollable TV from Samsung has been designed in such a way that the stand is perfectly stored between the two housings when you roll-in the device.

Портал LetsgoDigital внимательно следит за новостями в области патентования мобильных устройств. Накануне там были опубликованы сведения о документе, где представлены очередные модификации так называемых "рулонных" смартфонов Samsung, то есть гаджетов, способных разворачивать дисплей из компактного корпуса.
В отличие от предыдущих версий, новый патент предусматривает наличие в аппарате системы идентификации пользователя. В частности, на торцевой части тубы конструкторы предлагают размещать дактилоскопический сканер, при нажатии на который система распознаёт владельца устройства. И только после этого экран будет развёрнут для дальнейшей работы.
Патент предустматривает различные форм-факторы, например, с круглым и квадратным сечением, а раздвигать и сворачивать экран помогут встроенные магниты.
Разумеется, представленный документ является свидетельством о праве на изобретение, но не гарантирует обязательного появления такого устройства в продаже.
Тем не менее, Samsung уже довольно давно представляет взорам заинтересованных специалистов на выставках вроде CES и MWC различные прототипы рулонных дисплеев. Поэтому, в конечном итоге, с большой степенью вероятности можно ожидать появления компактных мобильников-трансформеров (а в перспективе и телевизоров) с раздвижным экраном.
Кстати, над подобными технологиями усиленно работают и ближайшие конкуренты Samsung - корпорация LG Electronics.

Samsung patents a rollable OLED display device that works with magnets and features a fingerprint sensor

A rollable display is a flexible display, that can be rolled up into a scroll. Although it may still take a few years before we can actually buy such a screen, we have already seen various prototypes during recent years. With CES 2018 and SID 2018 being just around the corner, we may soon see the latest developments. Today we have got news about Samsung’s rollable OLED display, as we might be witnessing the development process of Samsung’s rollable tablet.

Rollable displays

At IFA 2005 the Dutch royal company Philips showed world’s first prototype of an e-Reader Radius rollable display concept. Years later, at CES 2016, LG showed an 18″ flexible OLED display of only 1mm thick. The rollable TV was the lightest and thinnest display ever shown working.
Two months later Samsung demonstrated a rollable OLED display at SID 2016, it was a 5.7 inch screen, only 0.3mm thick and 5 grams. This screen could very well be used as a flexible smartphone screen.
A new patent from Samsung Display Co. Ltd has just been published in the WIPO database. The application filling date was June 13 2017, while the original application was filed exactly one year earlier with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The patented flexible display panel from Samsung can curl around a main body. The main body will be made from a metallic material, while the display includes one or more magnets, to easily attach the rollable display to the body. The patent shows rollable display devices with different form factors, including one with a square and cylindrical body.
The cylindrical model has a roller that can rotate to spirally wind the flexible display panel. When the flexible display panel is being spirally wound around the main body, the display can be fixed to the body by a magnetic force of the magnet.

That´s not the only thing shown in the patent. Once rolled up, users will be able to easily carry the rollable display device anywhere they want. To secure the data shown on the flexible display panel, the main body will feature an integrated fingerprint sensor. By simply pressing the main body with your thumb, the display panel will be unlocked and can be rolled out.
