Samsung провёл первое мероприятие Bixby Developer Day, которое отныне станет ежегодным

Сегодня в столице Южной Кореи техногигант Samsung провёл своё первое мероприятие, посвящённое своему интеллектуальному помощнику Bixby.
Ввиду особой важности развития направления искусственного интеллекта (AI), в корпорации принято решение сделать Bixby Developer Day (BDD) ежегодным слётом разработчиков программного обеспечения, расширяющего возможности этого AI-ассистента.
На конференцию в Сеул приехали ведущие персоны из американского, европейского и азиатского отделений Samsung, отвечающих за развитие искусственного интеллекта, чтобы познакомить местных разработчиков с принципами построения архитектуры AI Bixby и создания "капсул" (программных блоков), призванных создавать новые сервисы и улучшать уже имеющиеся.
Основной задачей в настоящее время создатели Bixby считают улучшение системы распознавания речи, чтобы отталкиваясь от этого начать резко наращивать потенциал интеллектуального помощника.
Ещё в ходе недавнего ежегодного мероприятия SDC18 (Samsung Developer Conference 2018), прошедшего 7-8 ноября в Сан-Франциско, топ-менеджеры Samsung сообщили, что в скором времени Bixby заговорит на нескольких наиболее распространённых языках. Помимо уже имеющихся американского английского, корейского и китайского, в ближайшие месяцы добавятся французский, немецкий, британский английский, испанский и итальянский. О дате начала поддержки русского языка пока ничего неизвестно.
Что касается дальнейших перспектив, то вице-президент подразделения Samsung IT & Mobile Communications Division Ли Джи-су сказал следующее: «Возможности распознавания речи Bixby будут продолжать улучшаться, поскольку мы привлекаем больше сторонних разработчиков, которые используют тот же инструмент, что и внутренние разработчики.
Samsung фокусируется на увеличении разнообразия объектов, которые могут взаимодействовать с людьми посредством голосового помощника, будь то мобильное устройство, телевизор, холодильник или кондиционер».
В ходе конференции BDD представители Samsung отметили, что над улучшением их фирменной AI-платформы Bixby сейчас работает больше сторонних программистов, чем у Google, что обязательно должно принести свои плоды уже в обозримой перспективе.
Также участникам и гостям BDD сообщили, что новый складной смартфон под условным названием Galaxy F получит новейшую версию голосового помощника Bixby 3.0 

Bixby Developer Day in Seoul (20/11/2018)

Samsung’s Bixby Developer Day is underway in South Korea. Samsung’s much-awaited foldable smartphone will ship with Bixby 3.0, according to a key executive. The company had confirmed this Bixby-focused developer event for South Korea last month with keynote speeches from several important executives.
The event had Samsung’s Vice President Eui-Suk Chung scheduled to speak as well. He leads the research and development of software and Bixby at Samsung’s mobile business. He’s the one responsible for Bixby’s development.
The Samsung Developer Conference 2018 was where Samsung unveiled much of what it’s showcasing today. The Bixby Developer Studio and the Bixby Marketplace being the most noteworthy announcements. Furthermore, Samsung is now allowing third-party developers to create features for its virtual assistant. It will distribute them through the marketplace.
Eui-Suk Chung also mentioned that Samsung is preparing to ship the next iteration of Bixby with the foldable smartphone. “The new Bixby currently in the pipeline will be featured in the foldable smartphone,” adding that the company has not yet decided if it will be branded as Bixby 3.0. He didn’t provide a lot of details about the next generation of Bixby, only that it will be an upgraded platform with more capabilities. Samsung rolled out Bixby 2.0 with the Galaxy Note 9 earlier this year.
Since the launch of Bixby, Samsung has been striving to make its AI platform more intelligent, integrated, and useful to its customers across product categories. Continuing its efforts, the company hosted the first Bixby Developer Day in Seoul to attract more third-party developers to expand the reach and capabilities of its AI platform.
Samsung showcased the new Bixby Developer Studio and offered training sessions for the same at the event, which had nearly 800 local developers in attendance. The Bixby Developer Studio was first unveiled at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco earlier this month. It is currently available for developers in the US, Korea, and China.
Samsung claimed at the forum that it has more third-party developers on its AI platform than Google. The company said it is working to improve the accuracy of Bixby’s speech recognition by providing better development tools for third-party developers around the world. The Korean tech giant also reiterated support for more languages on Bixby in the coming months.
“Bixby’s speech recognition capabilities will continue improving as we draw more outside developers who are using the same tool as the inside developers,” said Lee Ji-soo, Vice President, AI, Samsung IT & Mobile Communications Division, at the event. He further said, “Samsung is focusing on increasing the variety of objects that can have interactions with humans through the voice assistant, whether it be a mobile device, TV, refrigerator or an air conditioner.”

Нидерландский портал Let's Go Digital опубликовал информацию об очередном патенте, зарегистрированном корпорацией Samsung Electronics. На сей раз изобретение касается гибкого планшета, который можно складывать в противоположные стороны благодаря оригинальной конструкции механизма сочленения.
В разложенном состоянии устройство получит размеры большого планшета порядка 10-12 дюймов, но если владельцу гаджета понадобится более компактный форм-фактор, то его можно сложить пополам, оставив согнутый экран снаружи. Точно также девайс можно будет складывать и в противоположном направлении, чтобы защитить экран от повреждений при транспортировке.
Таким образом становится очевидно, что Samsung готовит сразу несколько линеек устройств с изгибающимися дисплеями, помимо смартфонов Galaxy F, анонс которого уже не за горами. 

Patent suggests that Samsung is working on a foldable tablet as well

Samsung is working on a foldable tablet, that is not a secret. The company even started to tease this device recently. The device in question should carry the Galaxy F moniker, and according to a new patent, it won’t remain alone since the big Sammy seems to be a working on a foldable tablet as well.
The patent mentioned has been filed back in April of 2018 in the U.S. but wasn’t been published until now. It describes a device that, when unlocked, can be used just like a regular tablet. However, if for any reason, users want to use just half of the display, it can be folded in one direction. That movement will turn off half of the screen and will switch the device’s UI to a more smartphone-like experience. The user can fold the remaining part of the display, thus protecting the display and allowing it to be placed easily in a pocket.
Foldable design still has some limitations, and with Samsung’s first foldable tablet things won’t be different. The device will carry two bezel-like grips on either side of the display, in order to house components. Apparently, the build materials will be mainly based on metal, while the center will come with a hinge-like mechanism.
While this device could pretty much launch alongside the Galaxy F, foldable devices are still a concept, and knowing the South-Korean manufacturer they’ll probably test only the Galaxy F in the market before releasing more devices. If the smartphone proves popular, the company can start the manufacture of bigger and bigger devices with the foldable technology.
