Samsung Electronics представляет в России программу Samsung Startup Membership (SSM), которая позволит российским технологическим стартапам наладить сотрудничество с глобальным производителем электроники на локальном и международном уровне. Приём заявок на участие открыт до 15 июля на официальном сайте программы.
«Samsung Electronics смог добиться успехов и стать лидером рынка благодаря тому, что на протяжении всех 50 лет своей истории сохраняет философию стартапа. Желание постоянно развиваться, создавать инновации, сталкиваться с новыми вызовами и преодолевать их не покидает нас и сегодня. Мы не прекращаем совершенствоваться, даже добившись успеха. Samsung launches startups support program in Russia

Samsung Electronics presents the Samsung Startup Membership (SSM) program in Russia, which will allow Russian technology start-ups to establish cooperation with a global electronics manufacturer at the local and international level. Registration of applications for participation is open until July 15 on the official website of the program.
"Samsung Electronics was able to achieve success and become a market leader due to the fact that throughout all 50 years of its history it preserves the philosophy of a startup. We do not stop cultivating, even having achieved success. We hope that the participants of today's event will also be guided by this philosophy", - commented on Jin Wook Lee, general director of Samsung Research Russia and head of the Samsung artificial intelligence center in Moscow.
As part of the program, Samsung Startup Membership participants will gain knowledge about the development of the technology market and its current trends, will be able to participate in private events with leading experts of the corporation and engineers of the Samsung Research Center, as well meets with invited experts and developers. The business decisions of SSM participants will receive a comprehensive assessment from the program's consultants in terms of the prospects for the development of projects in the Samsung Electronics product ecosystem, and successful business solutions will be supported in presenting projects to Samsung key players at the global level. Thanks to this, startups will be able to better outline the market areas for their ideas and open up opportunities for improving their products.

Samsung расширит инвестиции в развитие искусственного интеллекта (AI) и технологии 5G

20 марта представители Samsung Electronics заявили, что техногигант будет продвигать инновации для преодоления неблагоприятной бизнес-среды и стимулирования новых драйверов роста, таких как искусственный интеллект и 5G. 
Южнокорейский вендор объявил о своём бизнес-плане во время собрания акционеров, первого после разделения акций в соотношении 50:1 в мае прошлого года. Это позволило мелким инвесторам приобретать доли в корпорации, тогда как раньше из-за высокой стоимости даже простой акции имелись ограничения. 
Крупнейший глобальный производитель смартфонов и чипов заявил, что объём продаж составил 244 триллиона вон (215,8 миллиарда долларов США), а операционная прибыль в прошлом году - 59 триллионов вон на консолидированной основе.  
Но в Samsung пообещали активизировать инновации для преодоления проблем, возникших из-за падения цен на микросхемы памяти и снижения мирового спроса на новые смартфоны. 
«Корпорация планирует продвигать глубокие инновации во всех подразделениях, так как ожидается, что неблагоприятная деловая среда сохранится в этом году», - сказал Ким Кинам, вице-президент Samsung Electronics, на встрече в штаб-квартире на юге Сеула. «Мы будем продолжать выпускать инновационные продукты в наших подразделениях бытовой техники, IT и мобильной связи, чтобы расширить наши лидирующие позиции на рынке».
В Samsung заявляют: чтобы продвинуться в быстро меняющейся индустрии высоких технологий, корпорация будет расширять инвестиции в растущие сегменты для стимулирования роста.

Samsung vows to expand investments in AI, 5G

Samsung Electronics said on March 20 it will propel technology innovations to tackle the unfavorable business environment and foster new growth drivers, such as artificial intelligence and 5G.
The South Korean tech giant announced its business plan during a shareholder meeting, the first since a 50:1 stock split in May, which was aimed at making it easier for retail investors to purchase stakes in the firm.
The world’s largest handset and chipmaker said it posted 244 trillion won ($215.8 billion) in sales and 59 trillion won in operating profit last year on a consolidated basis, posting record high profits driven by the boom in memory chips.  
But Samsung vowed to step up its innovations to overcome business challenges amid falling prices of memory chips and flattening global demand for new smartphones.
“The company plans to push for profound innovations across the divisions as the unfavorable business environment is expected to continue this year,” Kim Ki-nam, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, said in the meeting at the headquarters in southern Seoul. “We will continue to release innovative products in our home appliance and IT and mobile communication divisions to expand our market-leading position.” 
To get ahead in the fast-changing tech industry, Samsung said it will expand investment in burgeoning tech segments to propel growth. 
“We will focus on new, promising businesses, such as AI and 5G, to bring meaningful changes and will actively respond to new business opportunities,” Kim said.

Samsung инвестирует $22 миллиарда в развитие 5G, искусственного интеллекта, биофармацевтики и сторонних стартапов

Согласно последнему финансовому отчету Samsung Electronics, южнокорейской корпорации нужна долгосрочная стратегия по расширению бизнеса. В рамках этой стратегии она объявила о многомиллиардных инвестициях в смежные и новые проекты, в том числе биофармацевтику, сети 5G и искусственный интеллект.
Сегодя крупнейший азиатский чеболь опубликовал план долгосрочного развития. Микрочипы, дисплеи и смартфоны по-прежнему останутся ключевыми для Samsung, однако конкуренция на этих рынках стала очень высока, отмечается в документе.
Неделю назад флагманское подразделение конгломерата Samsung — Samsung Electronics — опубликовало первый за последние 7 кварталов отчёт, в котором сообщалось о небольшом снижении роста прибыли. Необходимость поиска новых источников роста ещё в октябре прошлого года обозначил председатель совета директоров Samsung Electronics О Хён Квон, а в марте корпорация реформировала руководство, сменив генеральных директоров всех трёх подразделений. Это стало следствием давления со стороны пришедшего к власти левопопулистского кабинета Мун Джей Ина, сместившего со своего поста экс-президента Пак Кын-хе, втянутую в коррупционный скандал.  
В соответствии с представленным планом, рост должны обеспечить вложения в новые технологии. Прежде всего корпорация инвестирует $22 миллиарда — через Samsung Electronics — в создание искусственного интеллекта, разработку мобильных сетей связи пятого поколения (5G), комплектующие для автомобильных информационно-развлекательных систем, а также биофармацевтику. Помимо этого Samsung намерен вложиться в создание бизнес-инкубатора для собственных и сторонних технологических стартапов. внушительная сумма также будет потрачена на разработки в ключевых для корейской корпорации отраслях — производстве микрочипов и дисплеев.
В общей сложности в ближайшие 3 года корпорация планирует инвестировать около $160 миллиардов.
Всё это позволит конгломерату напрямую создать 40.000 новых рабочих мест и стимулировать появление ещё 700.000 в смежных отраслях.
«То, что этот инвестиционный план был объявлен только сейчас, не означает, что он не был тщательно спланирован заранее,— заявил Financial Times аналитик Hana Financial Investment Ким Рок Хо.— Просто сейчас настал подходящий момент, чтобы привести его в действие».

Samsung Steps Up Investment for Future Growth, Takes Initiative to Build Innovation Ecosystem

To invest KRW 25 trillion in AI, 5G, automotive electronics parts and biopharmaceuticals / Additional investments in semiconductors, display to maintain global leadership / Total investments to reach KRW 180 trillion, direct employment of 40,000 over next 3 years / To leverage business expertise and proven programs to support tech ecosystem

Samsung announced plans to boost investments in businesses that will drive its future growth, committing to a KRW 25 trillion investment over the next three years, primarily led by Samsung Electronics, in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, automotive electronics components and biopharmaceuticals.
Samsung also announced a set of initiatives to become a leading force in building and energizing the ecosystem of innovative businesses for the digital economy. By drawing on its well-established expertise in technology and start-up investments, Samsung will open up its venture incubation program to both external and internal start-up projects and provide software training.
Today’s announcement follows many months of deliberations and review by the management and board of directors of different Samsung companies that will make the investments, including Samsung Electronics.

Investing in Growth Businesses for the Future

Samsung expects innovations powered by AI technology will drive the industry’s transformation, while the next-generation 5G telecommunications technology will create new opportunities in autonomous driving, the Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics.
In AI, Samsung plans to significantly expand its research capability, increasing the number of advanced AI researchers to 1,000 across its global AI Centers. It will also invest aggressively to become a global player in the advanced markets for 5G chipsets and related devices and equipment.
Samsung aims to become a leader in electronics components for future cars such as system-on-chips for autonomous driving, utilizing its leadership in semiconductors, telecommunications and display technologies.
For biopharmaceuticals, Samsung has seen strong growth from both its contract manufacturing and biosimilar businesses. It will continue to invest heavily in the businesses, including developing and manufacturing biosimilars to combat chronic and difficult-to-cure diseases.
Separately, Samsung will increase its existing support of basic sciences to identify new growth opportunities, while widening the program to include areas of future technologies such as AI, 5G, IoT and biopharmaceuticals.

Investments for Technology Leadership

Overall, Samsung plans to invest a total of KRW 180 trillion over the next three years, including the spending on future growth businesses. The amount includes capital expenditures and R&D investments, and KRW130 trillion out of the total will be spent in Korea.
In semiconductors, Samsung will expand investments in manufacturing hubs, including in Pyeongtaek, to maintain global technology leadership and meet significant new demand from applications in AI, 5G, data centers and automotive electronics. In addition to investments for memory products, spending will include those for non-memory and new advanced manufacturing equipment.
For displays, investments will be increased to develop high-value, differentiated products amid rising competition in the industry.

Ongoing Commitment to Create Jobs

Together with the new investment, Samsung expects to create 40,000 new jobs over the next three years. This includes generating up to 20,000 additional new jobs on top of previous hiring plans, reflecting Samsung’s commitment to support youth employment.
Along with the direct employment, the investment in Korea is expected to help induce approximately 700,000 jobs in related industries and businesses.

Spurring Up Innovation Ecosystem in Digital Economy

Samsung aims to lead efforts to foster a vibrant ecosystem for innovations and growth, leveraging its technology and decades of experiences in creating successful businesses.
Samsung will expand its internal venture incubation program, C-Lab, which was introduced in 2012, to support external start-up projects. The platform will benefit 500 projects – 300 external candidates and 200 inside the company – in the next five years to encourage innovations and entrepreneurship.
In conjunction with the Korean government, Samsung will also set up and operate software education centers across the country, which will nurture much-needed software talent and help create new job opportunities. The centers will train 10,000 students and job candidates, and provide employment consulting services for the next five years.
Additionally, Samsung will strengthen joint research with leading higher education institutions in the area of semiconductor and other core technology.

Broadening Co-prosperity through Proven Programs

Samsung will boost its supplier support programs to a total of KRW 4 trillion, extending financing to more sub-contractors in the lower-level supply chain and increasing incentive payments. These programs will not only create stability within the supply chain, but also facilitate improvements within the partners.
Samsung will also increase the scale of its “Smart Factory” program, an initiative that provides automation solutions and intelligent upgrades for small and medium enterprises’ (SMEs) manufacturing facilities.
The program has already helped 1,086 manufacturers switch to smart factories and create 4,600 jobs between 2015 and 2017, by improving productivity and generating growth. Samsung and the Korean government will jointly set up a new KRW 110 billion fund to help 2,500 SMEs for the next five years.
