Galaxy Buds Live Challenge, Part 3: Soaring Through the Air with a Trampolinist

But just how effectively does this convention-defying design hold up when used for some of the most dynamic and movement-heavy activities out there? Samsung Newsroom handed over pairs of Galaxy Buds Live to several movement experts – to really put them to the test.

Challenge #3: Trampolining

As well as being a recreational activity we can all enjoy, trampolining is a gymnastic sport that is even recognized by the Olympics for its impressively acrobatic nature. Along with simple jumps up and down, trampolining can involve complex combination moves that see athletes twisting, tucking and even somersaulting as they perform.

A limited edition of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live wireless earbuds has been released in partnership with the sportswear brand Fila

Samsung unveiled its latest pair of TWS earphones — the Galaxy Buds Live — during the Galaxy Unpacked event early last month. The feature-rich TWS earbuds sported a completely new design, up to 28 hours of battery life, and active noise cancellation support. Earlier this month, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne edition. The special edition Galaxy Z Fold 2 came with similarly styled accessories, including the special edition Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Watch 3. Now, the company has announced yet another special edition Galaxy Buds Live in partnership with sportswear brand Fila.
The limited-edition Galaxy Buds Live Fila Accessories Package was recently unveiled in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. The accessories package includes the Mystic White version of the Galaxy Buds Live with Fila branding on the charging case, a square case designed like a Fila shoebox, and a keyring in the shape of Fila’s iconic Disruptor sneakers.
The accessories package has been priced at 209,000 Won (~$176) and it will first go on sale through the Kakao Shopping Live broadcast channel during a live stream. In case you’re able to get your hands on one of the 2,000 units during the live stream, Samsung will also throw in a pair of Fila Drifter slippers along with the accessories package. Following the live stream, the accessories package will be available for purchase on Samsung’s website and Fila online mall.

The TIZEN-powered Samsung's wearable devices are of much more interest to South Koreans than Android smartphones

According to South Korean media reports, Samsung's newest wearables have garnered much more interest among local buyers than the flagship Galaxy Note20 smartphones.
Statistical services state an unprecedented demand for such gadgets as the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live.
In the first two weeks after the announcement of the new devices on Samsung's Internet platforms, 60,000 Galaxy Watch 3 and 300,000 Galaxy Buds Live were sold in South Korea. This is several times more than was realized at the start of sales of the previous generation models. Samsung has never achieved such results before.
Curiously, these bestsellers run on the TIZEN operating system, which is being developed by Samsung.
At the same time, the most current smartphones of the Galaxy Note20 series, which went on sale on the same days, cannot boast of such impressive results. The demand for them was lower than for the previous models of the Galaxy Note10 series. And this is not surprising, since smartphones run on someone else's Android (Google) operating system, which does not allow you to use your own original solutions and puts Samsung devices on a par with the closest Chinese competitors.

Команда технопортала iFixit давно известна своими профессиональными обзорами по оценке уровня ремонтопригодности разных электронных устройств, таких как смартфоны, планшеты, смарт-часы и так далее. Недавно они провели экспертизу новейших устройств от Samsung, которые были представлены в начале этого месяца в рамках мероприятия Galaxy Unpacked 2020. В частности, инженеры провели разборку носимых TIZEN-гаджетов Galaxy Buds Live и Galaxy Watch 3. Как оказалось, в отличие от многих конкурентов, показатель их ремонтопригодности находится на высоком уровне.
Например, в отличие от беспроводных наушников Apple AirPods Pro, Galaxy Buds Live разбираются намного проще. Благодаря тому, что в конструкции используется батарея стандартного размера, заменить её достаточно легко. Речь идёт о литиевом элементе питания CP1254 на 3,7 В, который, согласно данным iFixit, нетрудно найти в интернете.
При разборке чехла для наушников было обнаружено, что в нём имеется интегрированный аккумулятор на 1,81 Вт·ч, а это значительно больше ёмкости батарей, используемых в чехлах предыдущих моделей Galaxy Buds и Galaxy Buds Plus. Что касается времени работы устройства без подзарядки, то специалисты подтвердили соответствие заявленным производителем 29 часам автономной работы.
В итоге ремонтопригодность Samsung Galaxy Buds Live получила оценку 8 баллов из 10 возможных. И это неудивительно, поскольку даже более старые модели серии Galaxy Buds считаются одними из лучших на глобальном рынке в отношении ремонтопригодности.
Затем специалисты iFixit приступили к разборке потенциального хита ближайшего осенне-зимнего сезона, а именно смарт-часов Galaxy Watch 3. Здесь ситуация оказалась весьма похожей.
Напомним, что гаджет доступен в двух размерах — с круглым циферблатом диагональю 1,4" (34 мм) и 1,2" (30 мм). Дисплей Super AMOLED может работать постоянно, а защиту от повреждений обеспечивает стекло Corning Gorilla Glass DX. Устройство оснащено двухъядерным процессором Exynos 9110, 1 Гб оперативной памяти, флэш-модулем объёмом 8 Гб, адаптерами Bluetooth 5.0 и Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, контроллером NFC, приёмником GPS/ГЛОНАСС/Beidou. Набор датчиков включает акселерометр, гироскоп, барометр, сенсор сердечного ритма с восемью фотодиодами и функцией измерения объёма потребляемого кислорода, а также сенсор внешнего освещения.
В процессе разборки выяснилось, что часы обладают очень хорошей ремонтопригодностью — 7 баллов из 10 возможных по шкале iFixit. А это означает, что устройство не создаст серьёзных проблем для сотрудников сервисных центров. Например, процедура вскрытия не представляет никаких сложностей. Внутри этих смарт-часов нет переплетающихся кабелей и хрупких коннекторов. Можно легко получить доступ к аккумуляторной батарее и дисплею. Кроме того, большинство компонентов являются модульными.
К минусам конструкции можно отнести частичное применение проприетарного крепежа и невозможность замены стекла без замены экрана, так как оба этих компонента совмещены.

IFixit experts praised the maintainability of Samsung wearables

The iFixit technoportal team has long been known for their professional reviews on assessing the maintainability level of various electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and so on. They recently reviewed the latest devices from Samsung, which were unveiled earlier this month at Galaxy Unpacked 2020. In particular, the engineers disassembled the Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Watch 3 wearable TIZEN-powered gadgets. As it turned out, unlike many competitors, their maintainability indicator is at a high level.
For example, unlike Apple AirPods Pro wireless earbuds, Galaxy Buds Live is much easier to disassemble. Due to the fact that the design uses a battery of a standard size, it is quite easy to replace it. This is a 3.7V lithium battery CP1254, which, according to iFixit, is not hard to find on the internet.
Disassembling the headphone case revealed that it has an integrated 1.81 Wh battery, which is significantly more than the battery capacity used in previous Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds Plus cases. As for the operating time of the device without recharging, experts have confirmed compliance with the manufacturer's declared 29 hours of battery life.
As a result, the maintainability of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live was rated 8 out of 10. This is not surprising, since even the older Galaxy Buds series are considered to be among the best in the global market in terms of maintainability.
Then, iFixit specialists began to dismantle the potential hit of the coming fall-winter season, namely the Galaxy Watch 3.  Here the situation was very similar.
Recall that the gadget is available in two sizes - with a round dial with a diagonal of 1.4 "(34 mm) and 1.2" (30 mm).The Super AMOLED display can run continuously and is protected from damage by Corning Gorilla Glass DX. The device is equipped with an Exynos 9110 dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 GB flash module, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n adapters, an NFC controller, a GPS/GLONASS/Beidou receiver.The set of sensors includes an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a barometer, a heart rate sensor with eight photodiodes and a function for measuring the volume of consumed oxygen, as well as an ambient light sensor.
During the disassembly process, it turned out that the watch has very good maintainability - 7 points out of 10 possible on the iFixit scale. This means that the device will not create serious problems for service center employees. There are no intertwining cables or fragile connectors inside this smartwatch. The battery and display can be easily accessed. In addition, most of the components are modular.
The disadvantages of the design include the partial use of proprietary fasteners and the impossibility of replacing glass without replacing the screen, since both of these components are combined.
