Samsung Electronics опубликовал технический документ под названием «Динамическое разделение спектра» (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing или сокращённо DSS), в котором основное внимание уделяется технологии DSS и её ключевым преимуществам. DSS позволяет одновременно разворачивать 4G LTE и 5G сети в диапазонах одних и тех же частотных полос каждого оператора. Используя сети связи четвёртого и пятого поколения в одном и том же спектре с динамическим распределением ресурсов, DSS-решение Samsung позволяет максимизировать операционную эффективность и обеспечить плавный переход операторов с 4G на 5G.

DSS динамически распределяет частотно-временные ресурсы между 4G и 5G в соответствии с их потребностью в трафике, оптимизируя использование ресурсов. На ранних этапах внедрения 5G преимущество DSS состоит в том, что эта технология выделяет только необходимый объём ресурсов для пользователей 5G и сохраняет оставшиеся для тех, кто применяет 4G. По мере того, как связь 5G со временем будет становиться всё более востребованной, DSS сможет выделять на 5G-сервисы больше мощностей.

Благодаря тому, что технология DSS позволяет совместное использование частот сетями 5G и 4G, операторы получат возможность быстро расширять покрытие 5G, устраняя необходимость в новом распределении спектра для сетей пятого поколения.

Технология DSS от Samsung уже используется в США в виртуализированной сети 5G RAN. Решение подходит как для традиционных аппаратных, так и для виртуализированных радиосетей, что обеспечивает клиентам максимальную гибкость.

Samsung highlights the benefits of 5G dynamic spectrum allocation technology in a new white paper

Samsung’s Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) offers a unique solution for an easy, uninterrupted transition to 5G.

This advanced technology can be leveraged to deploy 5G networks in LTE spectrum bands, minimizing the impact on existing services.

With DSS, mobile network operators can reuse their existing LTE hardware and infrastructure and enable 5G with software upgrade.

However, spectrum resource limitation may be caused as two different systems need to share finite resources and

overhead from LTE and NR signal transmission impacts overall capacity of the network. Samsung’s DSS solution dynamically

assigns resources to LTE and 5G based on the traffic demands for each technology, allowing optimal resource utilization.

Today, low spectrum bands are largely dominated by LTE. Therefore, operators who deploy 5G in low spectrum bands want a way for smooth migration minimizing the impact on LTE networks. One way to solve this is with LTE-NR dynamic spectrum sharing. By utilizing this feature, service providers can deploy LTE and NR in the same bands. Within one carrier network, LTE users access the network using LTE cells while 5G users are connected using 5G cells. Samsung’s DSS supports a variety of deployment options, increasing flexibility for operators. Our solution can run on both virtualized and physical RAN platforms. Customers can choose to rollout new hardware but they can also reuse legacy. Samsung’s DSS solution can also co-exist with 2G, 3G and LTE vertical services such as eMTC and NB-IoT, enabling a 5G launch without negatively impacting legacy systems.

Deploying 5G in low spectrum bands enhances network coverage. In general, low spectrum bands deliver wider coverage than high spectrum bands. As a result, mobile network operators need to secure additional low-band NR bands or deploy coverage densification solutions. By deploying 5G in low spectrum bands, coverage can be expanded at a faster rate. In addition, when 5G carrier aggregation (CA) is used to aggregate the low- and mid-bands, the control and signaling message can be transferred to the low frequency band, while the data rate can be boosted with extended coverage in mid-band. This has a direct improvement on the overall cell performance. Samsung’s DSS solution inter-operates with other FDD carriers, mid-band TDD carriers, and mmWave band TDD carrier to benefit from CA technologies. As a result, mobile network operators can provide faster cell throughput and extended coverage.

Samsung’s DSS solution provides flexible resource management that corresponds to the constantly evolving LTE and 5G traffic. An intelligent scheduler compares the traffic priority and user demands of LTE and 5G and allocates resources of the shared spectrum accordingly. The intelligent scheduler can make such decisions regarding resource allocation within milliseconds, enabling a real time resource management. Therefore, NR resource allocation increases and LTE resource allocation decreases when NR traffic peaks, and vice versa when LTE traffic peaks. DSS can also respond to 5G traffic bursts that occur and over time as 5G becomes more mainstream.

Не дожидаясь главного мероприятия второй половины года - Galaxy Unpacked, где будет представлен очередной флагман серии Note, Samsung уже начал анонсировать другие не менее интересные продукты, которые появятся на прилавках в ближайшие 1,5 месяца. Так, например, уже был представлен премиальный планшет Galaxy Tab S6, который вызвал большой интерес у технообозревателей.
Не менее интригующей новинкой должны стать и новые смарт-часы на операционной системе TIZEN, а именно Galaxy Watch Active 2, которые являются прямыми наследниками актуальной модели Galaxy Watch Active, которая дебютировала в начале весны.
Любопытно, что вместо ожидаемой старшей модели Galaxy Watch 2, производитель решил нарушить привычный график и выпустить более продвинутую версию "спортивной" серии. При этом сроки релиза Galaxy Watch 2 пока неизвестны.
Так каковы особенности грядущей Active-новинки? Согласно предварительной информации, эти девайсы будут выпущены, как минимум, в 3-х цветовых решениях - чёрном, серебристом и розово-золотистом, а также с разными циферблатами и материалами ремешков.
Также имеется информация о появлении цветовой версии "голубая морская волна" и продвинутой модификации "чёрный уголь", созданной по заказу модного спортивного брэнда Under Armour с эксклюзивным дизайном циферблатов и предустановленным фирменным приложением. 
Часы будут выпущены в "мужском" и "женском" вариантах диаметром 44 и 40 миллиметров. В зависимости от версии часы будут комплектоваться кожаным или силиконовым ремешком.
Младшая версия получит AMOLED-дисплей диаметром 1,2 дюйма, а старшая — 1,4 дюйма. Разрешение традиционно составит 360х360 пикселей. В отличие от предыдущей модели, часы будут оснащены сенсорным безелем. За производительность отвечает однокристальная система Samsung Exynos 9110. Продвинутая версия с LTE-модемом получит 1,5Гб ОЗУ, а версия, лишённая возможности совершать телефонные звонки в автономном режиме (без сопряжения со смартфоном) будет иметь модуль Bluetooth 5.0, и, соответственно, 768Мб оперативной памяти.
Объём накопителя в новых смарт-часах будет равен 4Гб, как и во всех предыдущих "круглых" моделях.
Официально Samsung должен представить Galaxy Watch Active 2 сегодня, то есть на 2 дня раньше, чем флагманские смартфоны Galaxy Note10 и Note10+.

TIZEN-powered Galaxy Watch Active 2: recent leaks before the official premiere

Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be succeeded on Monday when Samsung takes the wraps off its latest wearable. Ahead of its release however, it seems the device has been completely unmasked courtesy of a new leak.
Galaxy Watch was Samsung’s flagship wearable for 2018 - the hardware debuted alongside the Galaxy Note 9 and was notable for its array of fitness features and great battery life.
Samsung has already announced it will debut its newest wearable, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, on August 5.
The hardware has been tipped to come in three models and boast a wide-range of health features.
In addition to a Bluetooth-only and LTE version, an Under Armour branded flavour of the product has also been tipped for a reveal.
In particular, it has been speculated the hardware could be capable of performing an electrocardiogram for owners, similar to that of the Apple Watch Series 4.
Wareable has also declared the product will come in 40 millimetre and 44 millimetre case sizes which, if true, means the hardware could be smaller than last year’s Galaxy Watch.
Alleged images of the hardware were first outed by SamMobile - the product was shown looking incredibly similar to the original Galaxy Watch Active but featured altered buttons on its side.
While the hardware was shown omitting Samsung’s signature rotating bezel, it has been rumoured the border around the Active 2’s display may be able to replicate similar functionality if the user moves their finger across it.
As mentioned above, claimed photos of the Watch Active 2 had already surfaced online - however the most detailed of which has now emerged courtesy of Android Headlines.
The outlet recently showcased the hardware in what appear to be the three colours it will debut in at launch.
Once again the device was shown looking incredibly similar to its predecessor - the Active 2 is expected to come with a noticeable bezel around its display.
The software showcased on the product was reminiscent of that on the regular Watch Active, suggesting the new wearable will once again run Samsung’s own TIZEN operating system.
As was initially rumoured by Wareable, it seems a photo Under Armour version of the Watch Active 2 has also surfaced courtesy of renowned tipster Evan Blass.
The leaker showed a picture of the hardware that appeared to be possible marketing material outed ahead of its unveiling.
Samsung’s wearable was showcased looking incredibly similar to the regular version but featured an Under Armour watch face and strap.
It is unclear if this variant will differ from the standard model in any other ways.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch Active 2 on Monday, August 5.

В ответ на недавно представленный корпорацией Microsoft планшет "два в одном" под названием Surface Pro 6, Samsung отвечает схожим трансформером Galaxy Book2. Но в отличие от американского, южнокорейский техногигант вместо процессора Intel выбрал топовое ARM-решение от Qualcomm.
Samsung Galaxy Book 2 получил 12-дюймовый дисплей Super AMOLED с разрешением 2160x1440 пикселей и поддержкоу стилуса S Pen. Регулируемая подставка встроена в корпус, есть подключаемая клавиатура, которая во время транспортировки защищает фронтальную панель. Внутри установлен 8-ядерный чипсет Snapdragon 850 с тактовой частотой до 2.96 ГГц и 4Гб ОЗУ. Встроенный накопитель имеет объём 128 ГБ, также есть слот для сменных карточек microSD.
Устройство работает под управлением ОС Windows 10 с режимом S Mode (приложения из магазина Microsoft Store), но есть возможность бесплатно перейти на полную версию системы. ARM-компьютеры поддерживают подключение к интернету даже в спящем режиме, поэтому пользователь сразу узнаёт о новом письме или сообщении в Skype.
Планшет получил два порта USB Type-C. Возле основной 8-мегапиксельной камеры на задней панели расположился сканер отпечатков пальцев для входа в Windows 10 без ввода паролей. Фронтальная камера на 5 мегапикселей. Имеются стереодинамики AKG с технологией Dolby Atmos. Samsung Galaxy Book2 способен продержаться несколько дней без подзарядки. Время автономной работы достигает 20 часов, правда, данные указаны для режима S Mode. Поддерживается работа в сетях 4G LTE.
Galaxy Book 2 поступит в продажу на американском рынке 2 ноября по цене $1000. В комплект поставки входят клавиатура и фирменный стилус S Pen. В Европе новинка вряд ли появится, так как Samsung не особо жалует этот регион своим вниманием, поскольку здесь властвуют дешёвые китайцы.

Впервые в России скорость мобильного интернета на смартфоне превысила 1Гбит/с

Samsung Electronics и российский оператор связи «МегаФон» зафиксировали рекордные показатели скорости передачи данных на смартфоне Galaxy Note9 в сети LTE. Проверка работы модели осуществлялась в сети LTE Cat 18 с включёнными 4-мя антеннами MIMO4x4 и квадратурной модуляцией 256QAM. Скорость передачи данных при тестировании достигла 1,059 Гбит/с – беспрецедентного высокого показателя для коммерческого смартфона в действующей коммерческой мобильной сети.
Такая скорость была достигнута в ходе совместных тестов технических специалистов Samsung и «МегаФон». Загрузка данных осуществлялась с сервера мобильного оператора. Измерение скорости производилось профессиональным программно-измерительным комплексом на смартфоне Samsung Galaxy Note9.
«Впервые в России на коммерческом смартфоне в коммерческой сети 4G LTE cat.18 пройдена отметка скорости в 1Гбит/с. Это стало возможным благодаря агрегации 3-х несущих по 20MHz, MIMO 4×4, модуляции 256QAM и программного обеспечения производителя сетевого оборудования Nokia. Сегодня гигабитные скорости по праву принадлежат клиентам столичного «МегаФона» и обладателям современных смартфонов от Samsung», – отметил Фредерик Ваносчуйзе, директор по техническим инновациям и инфраструктуре компании «МегаФон».

Смартфон Samsung Galaxy Note9 получил чип Exynos 9810, оснащённый LTE-модемом cat.18, что позволяет достигать скорости скачивания 1,2 Гбит/с и 200 Мбит/с при загрузке. LTE-модем, разработанный в партнёрстве с компанией Anritsu, предлагает увеличение производительности на 20% по сравнению с модемом предыдущего поколения cat.16, обладавшим скоростью передачи данных 1 Гбит/с. Чтобы максимально повысить скорость передачи, смартфон использует технологию 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-OutputMIMO – многоканальный вход, многоканальный выход) и квадратурную схему амплитудной модуляции 256-QAM.

For the first time in Russia, the speed of mobile Internet on a smartphone has exceeded 1 Gbit per second

Samsung Electronics and the Russian telecom operator MegaFon have reached record data transfer rates on the Galaxy Note9 smartphone in the LTE network.
The test data transfer speed reached 1,059 Gbps - an unprecedented high rate for a commercial smartphone in the existing commercial mobile network.

Один из популярных youtube-каналов, посвящённых мобильным гаджетам, опубликовал первую распаковку новейших смарт-часов Samsung Galaxy Watch.
Видимо благодаря хорошим отношениям с одним из местных дилеров, американский техноблогер сумел заполучить самый актуальный носимый девайс от южнокорейского вендора самым первым.
Напомним, что на российский рынок Galaxy Watch попадут через пару недель в нескольких вариантах аппаратного и дизайнерского исполнения. Будут доступны   модификации диаметром 42 и 46 миллиметров с поддержкой беспроводной связи Blootooth, Samsung Pay (NFC) и усовершенствованной программной платформой на базе TIZEN 4.0. Кроме того, Samsung Galaxy Watch получили улучшенный энергосберегающий процессор и более ёмкий аккумулятор (для 46-мм версии), позволяющий использовать девайс на одной зарядке до 7-ми дней в экономном режиме. Если же Samsung Galaxy Watch переключить в режим обычного электронного хронометра, то работа на одной подзарядке превысит 30 суток.
Как и в прошлых поколениях смарт-часов серии Gear S, новый гаджет имеет 4Гб встроенной памяти, а вот объёмом оперативной отличается от своих предшественников в лучшую сторону. Старшие модали (LTE/4G) получили ОЗУ объёмом 1,5Гб, что даже превышает параметры бюджетных смартфонов.  
К сожалению, на российский рынок не поступят версии с поддержкой LTE (4G) связи, которая позволяет использовать Galaxy Watch вместо смартфона. Причина отсутствия таких моделей в РФ проста: местные власти запрещают операторам поддерживать технологию виртуальных электронных карт e-SIM, которые способны менять поставщика мобильных услуг без приобретения новой SIM-карты, поскольку технология e-SIM является универсальной и работает с любым сотовым оператором при вводе соответствующего кода. Специалисты говорят, что e-SIM, производимые в Нидерландах, позволяют уходить от слежки за пользователем смарт-часов, что категорически не устраивает ФСБ и другие российские спецслужбы, привыкших беспрепятственно шпионить за гражданами.

В Южной Корее выпустили детские смарт-часы Naver Labs AKI на базе чипсета Samsung Exynos 7 Dual

В Южной Корее компания Naver Labs представила детские смарт-часы AKI на проприетарной операционной платформе с использованием процессора Samsung Exynos 7270. Это двухъядерный чипсет с частотой 1 ГГц, который применяется в топовых смарт-часах Samsung Gear S3, работающих на TIZEN OS.

На южнокорейском рынке гаджет оценивается  275 долларов, но прайс также включает в себя оплату мобильной связи в течение 2-х лет. Появятся ли AKI на международном рынке, пока неизвестно. 

Bringing Families Together: Naver Labs’ AKI with the Samsung Exynos 7 Dual

Fashion and technology have found a happy marriage with the advent of wearable devices. Wearables have enabled us to track our health, work more efficiently, and enjoy entertainment in new ways. Now Naver Labs, an ambient intelligence company in Korea, is finding a way to bring the wearable experience to an all new audience: kids and families.
Naver Labs’ AKI is a family-friendly wearable watch designed to help bring families together and give parents peace of mind about their children’s safety. Inside the device is the Samsung Exynos 7 Dual (7270), a dedicated processor designed specifically for wearables. From its dual-core CPU, to its integrated LTE modem, the processor built on 14nm FinFET process packs power into a tiny package that is changing the way families interact.

Giving Parents Peace of Mind

Keeping an eye on your little ones can be difficult at times, but the AKI is making the job a lot easier. The device provides parents with information on where their children are at any time and can send alerts when their kids are somewhere they shouldn’t be or are doing something they shouldn’t be doing.
The device uses Naver Labs’ own W-Fi Positioning System (WPS), which provides the exact location of the device, even indoors. The watch can also detect activity and classify movement and can see exactly what the child is doing. Over time, it learns the child’s daily routine by analyzing the typical places they visit and at what time. If there are any abnormalities in their routine, parents will receive an alert to their phone.
Enabling these features is the Exynos 7270’s integrated Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) solution for location-based services. The chip also features Wi-Fi with Bluetooth connectivity that enables the watch to tether to another device, or to give Wi-Fi-based location services more accuracy. The low power consumption, thanks to the 14nm FinFET processor, also means the device can stay on for long periods of time so that parents can always check in on their little ones without worrying about battery depletion.

Keeping Families Connected and Secure

Keeping track of your kids is one thing, but with the AKI you can also check in with a quick call. The device comes equipped with a speaker phone and Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) for enhanced call quality. Behind this is the Exynos 7270’s Cat. 4 LTE modem that enables the device to stay connected at all times.
Thanks to the Exynos processor, your child’s data remains safe through ARM TrustZone hardware-based security, which separates non-secure and secure software from accessing the same resources directly. This ensures the AKI encrypts all of its data and only parents can access their child’s information.

Designed With Kids in Mind

With a kid-centric design, the AKI puts durability, function, and fun first. Kids can choose from multiple, bright-colored straps and one of four adorable dog emojis to adorn its 1.2inch AMOLED touch screen. Powering the graphics on display is the Mali-T720 graphics processing unit (GPU) of the Exynos 7270, so the entertaining dog emoji’s really come to life.
With a silicon strap for a comfortable fit and a refined metal frame, the colors and materials are beautifully matched resulting in cute, yet highly exclusive design. Furthermore, the AKI has a water-resistant rating of IP68, so kids don’t need to take off the watch even in swimming pools. The device is also tested for skin stimulation, high-temperature and humidity for safety and reliability.
Thanks to the Exynos 7270’s SiP-ePoP package, which includes the processor memory, and power management IC in a 10x10mm package, the AKI is able to keep a distinctive, flexible and slim design that is both functional and comfortable.

Helping Children Learn

More than just a tracking device, Naver Labs has also seized learning opportunities made possible by its intelligent software with the Exynos processor inside of the AKI. Capable of processing speeds up to 1.0GHz, the Exynos 7270 enables the AKI to offer advanced features that kids can interact with through voice command. The CLOVA, for example, is an intelligent personal assistant service, and the Papago, a multilingual machine translation cloud service helps kids study second languages. With intelligent software, the AKI is even capable of translating speech in English, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
The AKI can also help parents keep their kids on track. Using the app on their phone, parents can manage the settings on their child’s device, such as enabling concentration mode while their child is in school to minimize distractions from the watch and help their kids focus on studying without interruption.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 name confirmed following Bluetooth certification

First spotted by Sammobile, a benchmark-spec listing surfaced for a device called the Samsung SM-T835 — which is most likely the Galaxy Tab S4. The latest report from the site confirms a Galaxy Tab S4 is in the works after the company received a Bluetooth certification. Under product name, the document specifically names the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 as the device that received the certification. Samsung earlier received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance at the beginning of May.
Underneath the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset — which is currently the flagship chip. It’s also an upgrade from the Snapdragon 820 included in its predecessor. While it’s listed as having 3.1GB of RAM, it’s likely that it will actually be 4GB once the device is released. The currently rumored 52GB of storage will most likely be 64GB. As for the camera, it will come with a 7-megapixel front-facing camera and a 12-megapixel rear camera.
As for its operating system, the tablet will reportedly run Android 8.0 Oreo — Android’s latest OS. But the potential release of the tablet comes only one month before the official release Google’s Android P operating system in August.
In terms of additional specs, there’s still no word on what we can expect when it comes to weight, battery, or size of the tablet.
Currently, there aren’t many details on the exact look of the Galaxy Tab S4. It reportedly will have a 10.5-inch display, which is larger than the 9.7-inch screen on the Galaxy Tab S3. Its predecessor also included a Super AMOLED screen, but it’s unclear whether the new device will have the same feature.
But we do have some insight on the display, which is claimed to boast a 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution. In comparison, the Tab S3 screen offers 2,048 x 1,536-pixel resolution.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 tablet is expected to launch in July of this year. But it’s possible it could also launch as early as next month, especially after having already received its Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth certifications.
There isn’t a price yet listed for the Galaxy S4 tablet. The Galaxy Tab S3 was listed at $600 at launch, so we expect the S4 will most likely be priced within the same range.

Судя по технической спецификации, новинка не слишком сильно отличается от позапрошлогодней и всё так же базируется на SoC Exynos 7870, имеет 3Гб ОЗУ, 32Гб встроенной флэш-памяти, основную камеру с разрешением 13Мп (максимальная диафрагма объектива – F/1,9), аккумуляторную батарею ёмкостью 3300 мА·ч и FullHD-дисплей с диагональю 5,5 дюйма.
В сопроводительной документации отмечается, что в сетях 3G заряда аккумулятора хватит на 21 час непрерывного разговора.
Изменения заметны в оформлении фронтальной панели и в параметрах сэлфи-камеры: теперь в ней используется фотосенсор с разрешением 13Мп. Кроме того, Galaxy J7 Prime 2 поставляется с операционной системой Android 7 из коробки и поддерживает платёжный сервис Samsung Mini Pay.
Разумеется, аппарат поддерживает работу со всеми основными беспроводными протоколами, имеет слот для дополнительной карты памяти MicroSD и сканер отпечатков пальцев.
Габариты смартфона сохранились от предшественника: 151,7x75x8 мм, а масса увеличилась всего лишь на 3 грамма, составив 170гр.
В Индии Galaxy J7 Prime 2 будет предложен покупателям примерно за $215.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 launched in India

Samsung has silently launched the updated version of Galaxy J7 Prime. The new phone is named as Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2.
Listed for Rs 13,990, the J7 Prime 2 comes with 13 megapixel cameras both in the front and back. The rear camera has F1.9 aperture and the backing of a flash light. Armed with a 1.6 GHz Exynos 7 series octa core processor, the J7 Prime 2 comes with a 5.5 inch FHD display. There is 3 GB RAM in the phone and 32 GB of internal memory for storage.
The Samsung J7 Prime 2 has also a micro SD card slot for up to a 256 GB card. The 4G phone offers micro USB 2.0 port, WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, a 3.5 mm jack and GPS.
There are Accelerometer,Fingerprint Sensor,Proximity Sensors in the Android phone which measures 151.7 x 75.0 x 8.0 mm and weighs 170 grams with a 3300 mAh battery that claims to offer 21 hours of talktime on 3G networks.
It comes with Samsung Mini Pay and a camera app called Social Camera that, Samsung says, lets you click, edit and share pictures instantly.
On its primary and secondary cameras, the company claims: "With the F1.9 aperture, you can now take perfect photos and selfies, even in low light. And the 13MP high resolution camera (front + rear) ensures that every shot is crisp and clear."

Samsung Electronics сосредоточит своё внимание на США, где имеются большие возможности для роста перспективного рынка ультраскоростных сетей мобильной связи 5-го поколения (5G) после успеха в Индии с использованием фирменного сетевого оборудования Long Term Evolution, сказал 27 февраля глава бизнес-подразделения Samsung Netwotk.

«Потребители могут испытывать такие продукты, как смартфоны, прежде чем выбрать ту или иную модель, но не могут попробовать какие-либо услуги до создания новой сети», - сказал он. «Выбор поставщика требует взаимного доверия между продавцом и оператором».

Samsung network head turns to US after India success

Samsung Electronics will focus on the US for growth opportunities in the upcoming 5G network market after its success in India with Long Term Evolution network equipment, said the chief of Samsung’s network business on Feb.27 (local time).
“We are aggressively starting to enter the US market with Verizon,” said Kim Young-ki during a press conference at Mobile World Congress 2018. “We provided some main equipment for 4G in the US in partnership with Verizon and are now entering the 5G fixed wireless access network market there.”
In January, US mobile carrier Verizon selected Samsung to supply commercial 5G FWA network solutions. The two companies will begin by launching commercial 5G services in Sacramento, California, in the second half of 2018.
“FWA using the 800-megahertz bandwidth is an important application in 5G, which is to be launched first among other equipment,” Kim said. “The FWA will commercialize broadband service in the US, increasing social value, and move digitalization forward .” 
The president showed confidence in the new 5G market that's expected to emerge in 2019 at the earliest, which could be a golden opportunity for Samsung to expand its global market share.  
Compared to other global players like Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei, Samsung is seen to have moved too slowly in the fourth-generation era due to insufficient investment. 
Kim noted that by the time India goes from 4G to 5G, Samsung’s global market share could double or triple. 
“India is a very hot LTE market right now,” he said. “Multiple vendors including Samsung established more than 100,000 LTE base stations across the country, and more than 100 million people subscribed to LTE services last year.”
On the first day of the MWC, Reliance Jio Infocomm and Samsung announced their continued partnership to bring LTE coverage to 99 percent of the Indian population and significantly improve network capacity across the country. 
Indians use 10 gigabytes of data per person annually, which is far more data than the 5GB to 7GB of Koreans and Japanese. 
In response to a question about competing with Huawei, Kim said credit is the most crucial thing in the telecommunications infrastructure business. 
“Consumers can experience products like smartphones before buying them, but can’t try any service before a new network is established,” he said. “Selecting a vendor requires mutual trust between the vender and operator.”
It takes five to 10 years to become a trusted vendor in another country, he said. “Good technology, products and credit will provide value for operators.”
Since 5G utilizes 800MHz bandwidth and 28-gigahertz and 3.5 GHz frequency bands, Samsung, which has special technologies for 28GHz, could offer special value to US operators, he said. 
“I think 28 GHz is important … we started developing the technology as the first in the industry.” 
“Telecom technology for 28 Ghz is more difficult than others due to the frequency’s natural weakness. We have commercialized such difficult technology,” Kim added. 
Samsung currently has technologies for 3.5GHz, too. 
When 5G is commercialized based on Samsung’s network infrastructure, consumers will be able to take advantage of the tech giant’s big data created from communication between connected cars and artificial intelligence machines, he said: “Samsung is in a position that can provide the most useful 5G services when the network is ready."
