CinemaCon 2019: Samsung объявляет о заключении новых контрактов по развёртыванию кинотеатральных комплексов Onyx

В ходе крупнейшей в мире отраслевой выставки киноиндустрии CinemaCon 2019, проходившей с 1 по 4 апреля в Лас-Вегасе (США), корпорация Samsung Electronics сообщила о заключении новых контрактов на поставку самых передовых решений для кинотеатров - фирменных LED-экранов Onyx.
Согласно пресс-релизу южнокорейского техногиганта, новые залы, оборудованные системами Onyx Cinema LED, появятся в США и Израиле.
Судя по всему, американцы не хотят уступать Китаю, который пока удерживает первенство по количеству действующих залов Onyx (7).
В настоящее время в штате Калифорния действует 1 кинотеатр, оснащённый  иммерсивным LED-экраном от Samsung (если не считать второго экрана, установленного в одной из голливудских студий постпроизводства).
Однако вскоре ситуация будет меняться, и в США появятся ещё 2 кинозала Onyx. На очереди штат Техас, где в кинотеатре Star Cinema Grill (г. Ричмонд) будет установлен самый большой экран Samsung, шириной более 14-ти метров. Это 2-й в мире кинозал, где появится Onyx такого размера. Напомним, что впервые подобный экран был установлен в одном из центральных кинотеатров Пекина (декабрь 2018).
По замыслу кинопрокатной организации, заказавшей 14-метровый Onyx, экран будет установлен в роскошном VIP-зале с персональным обслуживанием посетителей официантами, если кто-то из клиентов захочет поужинать за просмотром новейшего блокбастера.
Другой кинозал, оборудованный 10-метровым экраном, заказан компанией HighRock Group, которая установит его в мультиплексе Warehouse Cinemas (г. Фредерик, штат Мэриленд). Причём впервые Samsung Onyx будет смонтирован в зале, оборудованном запатентованной технологией SkyVUE (экран с подвижным углом наклона для создания оптимального ракурса и перспективы во время просмотра фильмов).
Американские кинопрокатчики не скрывают своего оптимизма относительно сотрудничества с Samsung, поскольку самая лучшая на сегодняшний день технология кинопоказа без применения проекторов сулит хорошие коммерческие перспективы.
Как сообщается в пресс-релизе Samsung, LED-кинотеатр в Техасе откроется в июне, а более сложный в техническом аспекте зал в Мэриленде распахнёт свои двери в сентябре текущего года.
Также подтверждён заказ на установку Onyx Cinema LED в Израиле, который станет 17-й по счёту страной, где будет реализована технология цифрового кинематографа будущего.
В ближайшие месяцы количество кинозалов, оснащённых самыми передовыми решениями Samsung Onyx, превысит 50.

At CinemaCon 2019, Samsung Electronics is announcing the newest upcoming installations of its branded Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display, the world’s first DCI-compliant LED theatre display. Following the display’s showstopping unveiling at last year’s show, Samsung continues the momentum with three more confirmed installations for this coming year including two in the U.S. and one in Israel. As one of the largest and most influential gatherings for the worldwide motion picture theatre industry, Samsung is proud to maintain a prominent presence at CinemaCon.

Onyx Expansion in the U.S.

Samsung announced two upcoming Onyx installations at the Star Cinema Grill in Texas and at Warehouse Cinema by HighRock Group in Maryland. “Since our unveiling for the U.S. market at CinemaCon last year, Samsung Onyx has revolutionized the cinema experience globally,” said Nick Conti, Senior Business Development Manager for Cinema, Samsung Electronics America. “Today’s theatre expansion announcements in the U.S. showcase the praise and significant interest we have received from the industry since last year’s unveiling and we are very excited to work with these visionary exhibitors on successful installations this year.”
Star Cinema Grill will be introducing the 46 ft. (14m) wide Samsung Onyx p3.3 Cinema LED this summer at their newest location in Richmond, Texas. Star Cinema Grill in Richmond will be the company’s most advanced and luxurious theatre to date that will serve as the model concept going forward. The installation is slated to finish in June of this year and will be the first Samsung Onyx p3.3 Cinema LED in the Western hemisphere and only the second in the world.  Key to the success of this deal is the relationships Samsung built over the last year with Moving Image Technologies (“MIT”) and CSI Leasing (“CSI”). Samsung Onyx is a key technology included in Warehouse Cinema’s patent pending tilt technology, SkyVUE, which relies on angles and perspective for optimal movie viewing.  The design utilizes elevated, tilted screens to create comfortable, ergonomic positioning for both sloped and flat floors.

Предполагается, что южнокорейский электронный гигант покажет модификации своих кинотеатральных LED-экранов Onyx и многоканальных систем окружающего звука от своего подразделения HARMAN, которые были впервые представлены на CinemaCon ровно 2 года назад. Samsung will present advanced models of Onyx LED screens at the largest industry exhibition CinemaCon 2019

Samsung Electronics Co.’s projector-free cinema LED solution has made inroads into 16 countries since its debut two years ago, industry sources said Tuesday.
The South Korean tech giant showcased the Samsung Onyx Theater, an LED display brand designed exclusively for cinemas, at CinemaCon, the world’s biggest film industry fair, in Las Vegas in March 2017.
All theaters with the Onyx solutions provide extremely high contrast, vivid content and high dynamic range (HDR) images that can expand the boundaries of existing systems and add another level of immersive experience.
After introducing Onyx to theaters in Seoul and Busan, Samsung tapped Thailand as the first overseas market for the solution.
Since then, the cinema LED solution has been installed at 32 theaters in countries that include the United States, Germany, France and China.
China has the most theaters with Samsung Onyx with seven, followed by India with five, and South Korea and Malaysia with three each.
Industry watchers expect Samsung to clinch additional orders for the device during CinemaCon 2019, which is slated for Monday in Las Vegas.
Samsung may unveil new technologies for the solution or announce content partnerships at the film fair, they added.
Samsung has been making new attempts and signing technological tie-ups with foreign companies as part of efforts to expand its global market presence.
A super large screen, which is 14 meters wide and 7.2 meters high, was installed at a Beijing theater last year, with cinemas in South Korea, the U.S., China, Germany and India unveiling 3-D screens.
Samsung also struck business tie-ups with U.S. and French content and image quality firms.
A Samsung official said more theaters around the world are expected to introduce the Onyx solution.

В Париже кинотеатр Pathé Beaugrenelle организовал премьеру высокобюджетного французского блокбастера "Песнь волка" («Le Chant du loup») режиссёра Антонина Бодри, мастеринг которого был произведён специально с учётом возможностей экранов Samsung Onyx на студии постпродакшена известной компании Eclair. Как мы уже сообщали, Eclair оборудовала один из своих залов для цветокалибровки профессиональным 5-метровым монитором Samsung Onyx. Это позволит европейским киностудиям производить мастеринг своих кинофильмов с учётом самых передовых технических условий стандарта HDR, который заметно улучшает качество цветопередачи и прорисовки деталей изображения. Ранее подобная мастеринг-студия была открыта в Голливуде при техническом содействии Samsung.
Как сообщает французская пресса, уже в ближайшие дни прокатная компания Pathé Gaumont откроет ещё один кинотеатр Onyx, на сей раз в Лионе.

The first Samsung Onyx LED cinema halls are open in France and Brazil

Ultramodern cinema halls equipped with advanced solutions from Samsung/HARMAN are open in the capital of France and the largest city of Brazil.
At the end of February 2019, Samsung Onyx LED screens of unsurpassed quality and sound systems from JBL Professional (a division of HARMAN, the American conglomerate owned by Samsung) were installed at Pathé Beaugrenelle Paris Cinema and at Cinépolis of Shopping JK Iguatemi multiplex (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
The South Korean technology giant continues the expansion of its unique 21st century cinetechnology, which is designed to end the outdated and uncompetitive system of traditional film display by projecting onto a white screen.
Recall that even the most advanced laser projectors lose to Samsung Onyx screens in all parameters at least 3 times. This applies to such key characteristics as brightness, contrast, black level and color gamut. This is especially important when showing movies in 3D.
The first LED cinema, equipped with Samsung screens, appeared in South Korea in 2017. Subsequently, separate cinema halls, as well as Samsung Onyx multiplexes were opened in Switzerland, China, Malaysia, Austria, Germany, USA, India, Mexico, Thailand and a number of other countries. Earlier, a similar mastering studio was opened in Hollywood with technical assistance from Samsung.
According to the French press, in the coming days, Pathé Gaumont will open another Onyx cinema, this time in Lyon.

Малазийская прокатная компания MBO Cinemas сообщила, что в настоящее время завершает строительство в Куала-Лумпуре очередного зала, оборудованного самым передовым на сегодняшний день кинотеатральным решением Samsung Onyx. В системе Onyx применяется уникальный светодиодный экран с рекордными качественными характеристиками и специально разработанный звуковой комплект от американской JBL Professional (ныне принадлежит Samsung Electronics вместе с материнской мультибрэндовой корпорацией HARMAN International). Напомним, что первый кинотеатр Samsung Onyx был открыт в Малайзии несколько месяцев назад.
Новый зал расположен в однм из столичных флагманских мультиплексов MBO Atria, где зрителям предлагают лучший опыт просмотра благодаря применению новейших аудиовизуальных технологий вроде упомянутой выше Onyx или гигантского экрана IMAX со звуковым оборудованием стандарта Dolby Atmos.
Дата официального открытия 8-зального мультиплекаса пока не называется, но местная пресса сообщает, что это должно произойти в ближайшие недели.
Напомним, что самый большой экран линейки Samsung Onyx Cinema шириной более 14-ти метров был недавно открыт в столице Китая. 

In the capital of Malaysia, the next cinema hall Samsung Onyx will be opened soon

MBO Cinemas recently has revealed more details regarding the latest addition to its cineplex lineup which is located at Atria Shopping Gallery in Petaling Jaya. The new MBO Atria is said to feature 8 halls in total with one of them being equipped with Samsung Onyx LED cinema screen.
For those who followed our previous report, you might have remembered that the Samsung Onyx LED cinemas screen first made its way into Malaysia just a few months ago. At MBO Atria cineplex, the installation to deliver 4K contents (including 3D) with support for HDR alongside a sound system that can be customized to the content shown through the cinema hall.
Other than that, MBO Atria also has another hall that the company called MBO Big Screen that features a huge cinema screen that is said to be as tall as a 4-story building. Staying true to the commitment the company made to Dolby two years ago, this hall is indeed equipped with Dolby Atmos sound system.
In terms of ticket price, the MBO Atria’s Samsung Onyx hall apparently command an additional RM 3 on top of standard ticket price. The Big Screen hall on another hand also has an added fee of RM 4 per person.
MBO Atria is also the first MBO cineplex to feature digital self-service ticketing kiosks which currently support payment through credit and debit cards. Last but not least, the cineplex also features the touchscreen-based Coca-Cola Freestyle machines that allow users to obtain more than 50 drink combinations by mixing multiple beverages under the Coca-Cola umbrella through these machines.
For now, MBO has yet to reveal the actual opening date of MBO Atria. So, stay tuned for more updates from the company very soon.

Ширина новейшего 3D-экрана Onyx Cinema составляет более 14 метров. Ранее южнокорейский техногигант устанавливал подобные LED-экраны, ширина которых не превышала 10,5 метров.
В настоящее время Samsung предлагает киносетям и отдельным заказчикам 3 конфигурации комплектов Onyx Cinema шириной 5,5 м., 10,5 м. и 14,5 метра. В первом случае разрешение составляет 2K, а во втором и третьем - 4K. Все 3  варианта поддерживают форматы 2D и 3D, а звуковое оборудование поставляют HARMAN/JBL Professional, являющиеся дочерними структурами Samsung.
Таким образом, в соответствии с намеченным планом, Samsung до конца текущего года вывел на рынок самую большую 14-метровую конфигурацию, которая теперь доступна для заинтересованных клиентов по всему миру.

Samsung Electronics unveiled its largest-ever 3D-ready Onyx screen at Capital Cinema located in the Xicheng district in Beijing, China at a grand opening ceremony on December 7. Samsung’s latest 14-meter Onyx Cinema LED screen is now available in the market for movie theaters across the globe.

Samsung first launched Onyx in July 2017 with a model measuring roughly 10 meters (33.6 feet) wide. First LED cinema screen 'Samsung Onyx' arrives in Brazil

Samsung, in partnership with Cinépolis, brings to Brazil the first Samsung Onyx LED cinema screen, which will turn the exhibition rooms into a true multisensory experience and will make viewers feel part of each scene. With a 55 m² modular display, the JK Iguatemi (São Paulo) space is the first in the country to receive this innovation, present so far in Europe, Asia, the United States and Mexico. The inauguration is scheduled for early 2019.
With a premium viewing environment and richer, more realistic color display, the Samsung Onyx Cinema LED display features 455-inch and 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160 pixels). Support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology also allows for brighter brightness, raising brightness levels that can reach peaks almost ten times higher than conventional standards in both light and dark scenes.
Unlike the current projection format available in the Brazilian market, where the images are projected on a white screen capable of reflecting the light that is thrown over it by a projector that is on the other side of the room, the Samsung Onyx is not affected by ambient light , redefining the concept of contrast, avoiding distortions and providing greater immersion to the viewer. The whole set offers unprecedented detailing of images and allows content to be reproduced exactly as producers have idealized, even in 3D displays.
To achieve greater levels of realism, the device works in conjunction with the 3D glasses, increasing the clarity of the texts displayed on the display and, therefore, facilitates the reading by the viewers. The wide dynamic sound complements the innovations.
The screen still provides modernity for the movie theaters. With it, it is possible to transform spaces that were previously reserved for accommodation of projectors or other equipment in additional seats or premium environments. Another advantage is the reduction of operating costs and ease of installation and more efficient management of the product from the new display cabinet structure, which allows for faster modular repairs.

Однако, помимо уникального эмиссионного LED-экрана, созданного усилиями инженеров Samsung Electronics, важную роль играет и система окружающего звучания, разработанная в дочерней структуре Samsung - американском конгломерате HARMAN. Как известно, в состав последнего входят такие именитые брэнды как JBL, ARCAM, Studer, AKG, Mark Levinson, Harman/Kardon и целый ряд других легендарных компаний. В марте 2017 года Samsung завершил сделку по приобретению конгломерата HARMAN более чем за 8 миллиардов долларов, что стало крупнейшей зарубежной покупкой южнокорейского техногиганта за всю его историю.

Совершенно очевидно, что лучшему в мире кинотеатральному LED-экрану должно соответствовать и качество звуковой установки, воспроизводящей многоканальный саундрэк фильма. И здесь вступили в игру специалисты компании JBL Professional, имеющих за плечами многолетний опыт создания акустических систем топ-уровня. На их счету разработка лучших комплектов оборудования для работы в больших аудиториях (концертные залы, спорткомплексы, кинотеатры и открытые площадки). К JBL также подключились специалисты смежных подразделений HARMAN - компании Crown и BSS. Первая занялась разработкой блоков усиления (Crown DCi-N), а вторая предоставила процессоры обработки многоканального цифрового аудиосигнала высокого разрешения (BSS 160).
Новейший аудиокомплект от JBL/Crown/CSS позволяет значительно расширить так называемую "зону комфортного звучания", когда даже сидящие не на самых лучших местах (например в угловых частях зала) зрители ощущают объёмный эффект также как и те, кто сидит на лучших местах в центре. Эта фирменная запатентованная технология получила название JBL Sculpted Surround.
Ещё одной нестандартной задачей, вставшей перед разработчиками JBL Professional, стала необходимость формирования высококачественного звука центрального канала. Всё дело в том, что в обычных кинотеатрах это решается просто: за белым матерчатым экраном устанавливаются соответствующие акустические системы, не требующие сложной настройки. Как правило, эти громкоговорители воспроизводят речевой саундрэк и лишь изредка какие-либо спецэффекты. LED-экран Onyx, состоящий из довольно массивных блоков, не позволяет устанавливать акустику "за кулисами", поэтому специалисты JBL нашли изящное техническое решение, потребовавшее, правда, немалых усилий и сотен часов испытаний в тестовых лабораториях. Инженеры сконструировали специальные узконаправленные динамики-излучатели, которые посылают сигнал среднего и высокого частотного спектра непосредственно на экран Onyx, а зритель слышит отражённый от него звук. При этом по периметру экрана установлены дополнительные сабвуферы и громкоговорители, чтобы скомпенсировать недостаток низких частот, которые не могут быть адекватно переданы отражённым сигналом от LED-экрана.
Эксперты, присутствовавшие на запуске кинозалов Onyx в разных странах, отмечают высочайшее качество воспроизведения саундтрэков.
В настоящее время отдельные залы и мультиплексы Onyx уже действуют в Южной Корее, США, Германии, Китае, Гонконге, Индии, Швейцарии, Таиланде, Мексике и Малайзии. До конца 2018 года новые залы будут открыты в Австрии и некоторых других странах. Samsung заявляет, что за 18 месяцев, прошедших с момента запуска первого в мире LED-кинотеатра (Сеул, Южная Корея) он оборудует системами Onyx не менее 30 залов по всему миру. В дальнейшем темп ввода в эксплуатацию новых кинотеатров Onyx возрастёт в несколько раз.
К сожалению, о сроках появления Onyx в России пока ничего неизвестно.

Новой кинотехнологией полностью оснащён VIP-мультиплекс Shanghai ARCH Wanda Cinema в крупнейшем городе Китая. Таким образом китайская прокатная компания демонстрирует, что недостатка в обеспеченных клиентах у них не будет.
Каждый зал этого премиального кинокомплекса имеет ограниченное количество мест (от 50 до 60) и предоставляет посетителям повышенный комфорт в виде очень удобных мягких кресел и персональную доставку напитков и лёгких закусок перед началом сеанса.
Но главной особенностью Shanghai ARCH Wanda Cinema, разумеется, станет не роскошное обслуживание зрителей, а уникальные особенности фирменных кинотеатральных решений Samsung Onyx, которые обеспечивают беспрецедентное качество изображения и звука.

On September 7th the first theater of its kind officially opened, offering six Samsung Onyx screens in one location, and creating the ultimate entertainment venue. These state-of-the-art screens will astonish audiences with an impressive visual experience, with a more powerful, compelling and memorable movie experience.

Samsung and Wanda Cinemas worked together previously when Samsung installed its first Cinema LED screen in China at Wanda’s Wujiaochang Theater, located in Shanghai’s Yangpu District earlier this year.

Впервые индийские зрители получили возможность смотреть фильмы с непревзойдённым качеством, какого ещё не достигала кинопромышленность.
На церемонии открытия Samsung Onyx Cinema в Нью Дели присутствовали известные персоны Болливуда, представители кинопрокатных организаций, а также топ-менеджеры подразделений Samsung India и Samsung Southwest Asia.

В ближайшие месяцы залы Onyx, оснащённые оборудованием от Samsung и JBL (подразделение американского конгломерата HARMAN, принадлежащего Samsung Electronics), будут открыты в Австрии, Индонезии и ряде других стран.
LED-экарны Onyx, обладающие рекордными характеристиками, примерно в 10 раз превосходят даже самые новейшие проекторы с лазерными излучателями по яркости, а также способности отображать всю цветовую палитру, включая идеальный белый и чёрный. Срок наработки на отказ - не менее 11 лет непрерывной (круглосуточной) эксплуатации, что в 3 раза дольше, чем в случае с лазерными проекторами.
Экраны Onyx собираются из отдельных высокопрецизионных модулей и работают по принципу самой передовой "эмиссионной" технологии, аналогичной microLED, где каждый отдельный пиксель может самостоятельно излучать свет невероятной интенсивности (или не излучать вовсе, чтобы отобразить идеальный чёрный), что позволяет получить рекордные параметры яркости/контраста и цветовой насыщенности. А поддержка технологии HDR гарантирует идеальное отображение всех доступных человеческому глазу цветовых градаций.
Система окружающего звука, разработанная компанией JBL Professional, впервые предоставляет зрителям возможность ощутить впечатляющие объёмные эффекты вне зависимости от расположения его места в зале.
Кинотеатры Samsung Onyx позволяют демонстрировать 2D и 3D контент в максимально возможном качестве, недостижимом в залах с традиционными проекторами.
В настоящее время Samsung предлагает своим клиентам поставки комплектов кинотеатрального оборудования с шириной LED-экрана 5 (разрешение 2K) и 10 метров (разрешение 4K). К концу текущего года южнокорейский техногигант запустит в эксплуатацию 15-метровые 4K-экраны Onyx.
Что касается России, то пока неизвестно, поступил ли хотя бы один заказ на монтаж такого экрана от какой-либо местной киносети.

Samsung and PVR will extend this partnership and come up with more theatres equipped with Onyx Cinema LED screens in the recent future.

Подразделение Samsung Electronics America отмечено Голливудской профессиональной ассоциацией на ежегодной церемонии вручения премий за выдающиеся достижения в области кинематографа. Триумфатором стал первый в мире светодиодный кинотеатр Samsung Onyx, открывший новую главу в развитии технологии кинопоказа.
Премией "Высочайшее качество", которой удостоен Samsung Onyx, отмечаются компании, предоставляющие профессиональной киноиндустрии и телепроизводству лучшие технологии отображения медиаконтента.
Показанное на выставке CinemaCon 2018 в Лас-Вегасе новейшее кинотеатральное решение, созданное корпорацией Samsung и её дочерним подразделением HARMAN International Industries, первым в отрасли получило сертификат DCI, что означает его полное соответствие высочайшим требованиям профессиональной киноиндустрии. Это открывает прямую дорогу к широкому внедрению систем Samsung Onyx в американских кинотеатров, включая залы класса Lux.
Напомним, что светодиодные LED-кинотеатры Samsung впервые начали внедрять летом 2017 года в Южной Корее, после чего начались поставки комплектов Samsung Onyx в Таиланд, Китай, Швейцарию, США, Австрию, Германию, Индию, Мексику и ряд других стран. Пару месяцев назад появились сообщения, что Samsung открыл предзаказ на поставку комплектов Onyx и для российских клиентов.
Напомним, что кинотеатральные комплекты Onyx в настоящее время поставляются в двух вариантах: с 5-метровыми 2K-экранами и 10-метровыми 4K-экранами, произведёнными с использованием самой передовой технологии microLED.
Экраны способны демонстрировать 2D и 3D контент с качеством, которое недоступно даже самым передовым лазерным проекционным установкам.
Непревзойдённое качество также гарантируется поддержкой протокола HDR (расширенный динамический диапазон) с рекордными параметрами яркости/контрастности, а также отображения чистого белого и глубокого чёрного цветов.
Вместе с ведущими партнёрами киноиндустрии в США, Германии и Франции Samsung разработал полный цикл технологии создания контента (от требований к съёмочной аппаратуре до окончательного мастеринга) с идеальной калибровкой цветобаланса и других ключевых параметров изображения.
Длительность работы LED-экранов Onyx в несколько раз превосходит жизненный цикл традиционных проекторов. Согласно проведённым тестовым испытаниям, экраны от Samsung могут работать в течение 11 лет без перерыва.          
Что касается звукового сопровождения, то за это отвечает подразделение HARMAN - американская компания JBL Professional, разработавшая передовую систему окружающего звучания Sculpted Surround. Вместе с LED-экранами Samsung эти кинотеатральные комплекты получили название Onyx.
Вскоре южнокорейский техногигант предложит своим клиентам ещё более впечатляющий комплект с LED-экраном шириной более 15-ти метров, что позволит устанавливать системы Onyx не только в малых залах, но и в кинотеатрах средних размеров, которые являются наиболее распространёнными. 
В настоящее время Samsung активно наращивает мощности по производству таких кинотеатров и разворачивает поставки оборудования для оснащения залов системами Onyx на всех ключевых рынках мира.  

Samsung Onyx Secures Honorable Mention in HPA’s 2018 Engineering Excellence Award

Launched earlier this year, the Samsung Onyx disrupted the cinema industry as the first ever DCI-Certified Cinema Display

Samsung Electronics America, Inc is awarded an honorable mention by the Hollywood Professional Association in their annual Engineering Excellence Award for the new Samsung Onyx cinema screen. The Engineering Excellence Award spotlights companies providing services to the professional media content industry for their outstanding technical and creative ingenuity in media, content production, finishing, distribution and archive.
Announced just before CinemaCon 2018, the Samsung Onyx brings LED technology to the cinema experience as the industry’s first DCI-certified cinema display. By using a large LED screen in the theater in place of the traditional projector, the audience experiences the brightest whites and deepest blacks, providing audiences with the opportunity to view films the way the creators intend. In addition, the colors remain vibrant even when there is ambient light throughout the space.

Notably, Samsung will collaborate with leading cinema technology services provider Ymagis Group and its Eclair content development business unit to deliver EclairColor® HDR-compliant pictures that shine on the Onyx screen.
