Samsung Gulf Electronics has announced that its next-generation ONYX Cinema LED screen has been installed in the UAE for the first time.

Recall that the world's first cinema with a Samsung LED screen was opened in the summer of 2017 in the Lotte Cinema multiplex (Seoul, South Korea). Later, the technology was improved and received the Samsung ONYX label. The South Korean tech giant offers its clients several different configurations of LED screens and sound equipment, up to support for 4K 3D format. Such theater kits have already been installed in dozens of countries around the world, including the USA, China, Australia, France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, India, Malaysia, Ukraine, etc.

Как отмечают в пресс-службе Samsung Electronics Ukraine, уникальность этого кинозала заключается в революционной технологии Samsung Onyx, аналогов которой нет в Украине, а также в максимальной автоматизации обслуживания.

В отличие от обычных кинотеатров, которые применяют проекторы, в зале Onyx изображение выводиться непосредственно на экран, при этом обеспечивая лучшее качество, чёткость и яркость картинки. Поскольку исчезает потребность в помещении для проекционного оборудования, остаётся больше пространства для зрителей: можно выделить дополнительные ряды, поясняют специалисты.

Сейчас лишь в некоторых странах мира, таких как США, Китай, Германия и Южная Корея, открылись отдельные кинотеатры на основе технологии Samsung Onyx, так что Miromax стал первым таким объектом не только в Украине, но и в Восточной Европе.

The official opening of the first in Eastern Europe LED-cinema Samsung Onyx took place in the capital of Ukraine

The first cinema of the future from the new Ukrainian network Miromax, which uses the unique LED technology Samsung Onyx, has been operating in the Kiev shopping and entertainment center "Aladdin" since November.

As noted in the press service of Samsung Electronics Ukraine, the uniqueness of this cinema lies in the revolutionary technology Samsung Onyx, which has no analogues in Ukraine, as well as in the maximum automation of service.

Unlike conventional cinemas that use projectors, Onyx displays images directly on the screen, providing better picture quality, clarity and brightness. Since the need for a room for projection equipment disappears, there is more space for the audience: additional rows can be distinguished, experts explain. 

Now, only in some countries of the world, such as the USA, China, Germany and South Korea, separate cinemas based on Samsung Onyx technology have opened, so Miromax became the first such facility not only in Ukraine, but also in Eastern Europe.

The viewing experience is enhanced by the specially developed JBL Sculpted Surround system from the legendary American company HARMAN, which has been wholly owned by Samsung Electronics since March 2017.

An important role in the implementation of this project is played by the location of the Miromax cinema - the Aladdin shopping and entertainment center, which is located next to the metro station in a densely populated area of Kiev, which should attract young people and families with children.

Since December 16, the Samsung Onyx hall at the new Miromax cinema has been hosting the first visitors to the premiere of the blockbuster "Wonder Woman: 1984".

At the same time, due to the coronavirus pandemic, strict precautions are being taken to ensure that cinema visits are comfortable and safe for viewers.

Benefits of the new Onyx technology:

• True black color for the best display of picture details and better contrast, as well as record brightness in the bright areas of the image;

В интервью аргентинской газете LA NACION от 5 августа, Мартин Хильгерт, старший менеджер по продуктам и маркетингу дисплейных средств отображения в Samsung Electronics, сообщил, что до конца текущего года южнокорейский техногигант откроет не менее 75 залов с революционной кинотеатральной технологией Onyx, которая основана на применении больших светодиодных экранов с рекордными характеристиками.
Эта информация прозвучала в ходе презентации Onyx для журналистов ведущих изданий Латинской Америки и владельцев местных киносетей, которые собрались в крупнейшем бразильском городе Сан-Паулу, где работает один из первых таких кинозалов на южноамериканском континенте.
На сегодняшний день Samsung оборудовал установками Onyx залы на территории 16-ти стран, включая США, Китай, Индию, Германию, Австрию, Швейцарию, Францию, Мексику, Испанию и целый ряд других.
Первый в мире "кинотеатр без проектора" был открыт летом 2017 года в Сеуле (Южная Корея) на базе шикарного мультиплекса в Lotte World Tower, где был установлен профессиональный светоиодный киноэкран шириной более 10-ти метров и новейшая система окружающего звука JBL Sculpted Surround от HARMAN (дочерняя структура Samsung Electronics).
Первый кинотеатр с самым большим на сегодняшний день экраном Samsung Onyx (его ширина превышает 14 метров) открыт в Пекине (Китай) в конце 2018 года.

Напомним, что уникальная технология Samsung Onyx Cinema в несколько раз превосходит лучшие проекционные установки с лазерными излучателями, гарантируя непревзойдённое качество цветопередачи, высокий контраст, а также идеальное отображение глубокого чёрного цвета, что особенно ценится в среде киноманов. Также следует особо отметить поддержку системы отображения высокого динамического диапазона (HDR) и удивительное качество работы в формате 4K 3D, что позволяет максимально вовлечь зрителя в происходящее на экране действо в трёхмерном варианте.
Samsung - первый и единственный на сегодняшний день мировой производитель и поставщик кинотеатрального LED-оборудования (в том числе для профессиональных студий, осуществляющих мастеринг видеоконтента самого высокого уровня). Компания Sony пыталась предложить киносетям похожую технологию под названием Crystal LED, но не добилась успеха из-за чрезмерно высокой цены на свою продукцию. Говорят, что японцы попробуют сделать следующую попытку через 2-3 года. Но к тому моменту Samsung уже будет далеко впереди конкурентов. Сейчас южнокорейский техногигант разрабатывает 20-метровый кинотеатральный LED-экарн с разрешением 8K и новую звуковую систему, которая будет поставляться в комплекте Onyx.
Разумеется, производители лазерных проекторов тоже не стоят на месте, и с каждым годом предлагают всё более совершенное оборудование, которое потребляет меньше энергии и почти не греется. Однако у кинозалов Onyx остаются неоспоримые преимущества, которые старая проекционная технология (ей уже более 120 лет) не преодолеет никогда: это искажения, вносимые оптикой (какая бы качественная и дорогая она ни была), невозможность отображения абсолютно чёрного на белом киноэкране, а также срок службы лазерных излучателей. В настоящее время лучшие лазерные проекторы гарантируют наработку на отказ (до момента замены дорогих лазерных модулей) не более 20.000 - 30.000 часов, в то время как экраны Onyx способны бесперебойно работать не менее 100.000 без ухудшения качества изображения. При этом замена небольших LED-панелей, из которых собирают большой экран Onyx, не требует много времени и тщательной юстировки, в отличие от проекторов.
Немаловажным фактором является и то, что залы Onyx можно дополнительно расширить на несколько рядов за счёт ликвидации проекционной будки, что повышает их коммерческую эффективность.
Американские владельцы кинотеатров предпочитают устанавливать оборудование Onyx Cinema в залах для VIP-клиентов, где имеются более комфортные кресла и предоставляются дополнительные услуги (как правило, персональная доставка еды для желающих перекусить во время просмотра). Конечно же такой сервис предполагает и более высокое качество кинопоказа, чего не могут предложить конкурирующие залы с обычными проекторами.
В настоящее время в Южной Америке открыто 2 кинотеатра Samsung Onyx: один в Колумбии (CineColombia в Каракасе) и один в Бразилии на базе мультиплекса Cinepolis в Сан-Паулу.

By the end of 2019, 75 LED cinema halls with Samsung Onyx technology will be open around the world

In an interview with the LA NACION newspaper (Argentina), Martin Hilgert, senior marketing manager of display products at Samsung Electronics, said that by the end of this year, the South Korean tech giant will open at least 75 halls with revolutionary Onyx cinema technology, which  based on large LED screens with record-breaking characteristics.
This interview was made during the presentation of Onyx for journalists of leading Latin American newspapers who gathered in the largest Brazilian city of São Paulo, where one of the first LED-cinema halls on the South American continent operates.
Currently, Samsung Onyx cinemas are already operating in 16 countries, including the USA, China, India, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Mexico, Spain and a number of others.
The world's first "movie theater without a projector" was opened in the summer of 2017 in Seoul (South Korea) based on the chic multiplex in Lotte World Tower, where a professional LED-cinema screen with a width of more than 10 meters and the latest JBL Sculpted Surround sound system from HARMAN (a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics) were installed.
The first cinema with the largest Samsung Onyx screen to date (its width exceeds 14 meters) was opened in Beijing (China) at the end of 2018.
In July 2019, the largest cinema in the Western Hemisphere with a 14-meter LED-screen Onyx was presented in Houston (USA).
Recall that the unique Samsung Onyx Cinema technology is several times superior to the best projection systems with laser emitters, guaranteeing unsurpassed color reproduction quality, high contrast, and also ideal deep black color, which is especially appreciated by moviegoers. It should also be noted the support for the HDR (High Dynamic Range) system and the amazing quality of work in 4K 3D, which allows you to immerse the viewer as much as possible in movie action. 
Samsung is the first and only global manufacturer and supplier of cinema LED equipment (including professional mastering studios). Sony tried to offer cinema networks a similar technology called Crystal LED, but was unsuccessful due to the excessively high price of its products. They say that the japanese will try to make the next attempt in 2-3 years. But by then Samsung would be far ahead of the competition.
Of course, manufacturers of laser projectors also do not stand still, and every year they offer more and more advanced equipment that consumes less energy and is almost not heated. However, Onyx cinema halls have undeniable advantages that the old projection technology, which is more than 120 years old, will never overcome: optical distortion, the inability to display completely black on a white movie screen, and also the shorter life of laser emitters. Now the best laser projectors guarantee operation (up to the moment of replacing expensive laser modules) for 20,000 to 30,000 hours, while Onyx screens can operate continuously for more than 100,000 hours. At the same time, replacing failed compact LED panels from which the Onyx large screen is assembled does not require a lot of time and careful setup, unlike projectors. An important factor is that Onyx cinema halls can be further expanded by several rows by eliminating the projection booth, which increases the commercial effectiveness of the cinema.
At present, owners of American cinemas prefer to install Onyx Cinema equipment in VIP-halls, where there are more comfortable seats and additional services are provided (as a rule, personalized food delivery for those who wish to have a snack while watching). Of course, such a service also implies a higher quality of film screening, which competing halls with ordinary projectors cannot offer.
Currently, two Samsung Onyx cinemas are open in South America: one in Colombia (CineColombia in Caracas) and one in Brazil based on the Cinepolis multiplex in São Paulo.

A popular dine-in theater chain is reaching for the stars with some game-changing new technology. Star Cinema Grill in the Richmond-Katy area is upping the ante with a massive Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen.
And by massive, we mean a show-stopping, jaw-dropping 46 feet.

В TGV Central i-City вы можете купить билет в зал с гигантским экраном IMAX, на который проецирует изображение новейший проектор с лазерными излучателями. При этом частота смены кадров повышена в несколько раз по сравнению с привычным кинематографическим стандартом (24 к/с), чтобы нивелировать такой неприятный дефект как смазывание при показе быстродвижущихся объектов. На сегодняшний день это потолок возможностей проекционных систем, базовый принцип которых (световая проекция на белый экран) не менялся со времён изобретения кино братьями Люмьер. 
В отличие от IMAX, расположенный в том же кинотеатре зал Samsung Onyx уже изначально предлагал повышенную частоту кадросмены и в несколько раз более яркое и контрастное изображение. При этом новейший LED-экран от Samsung, шириной более 14-ти и высотой более 5-ти метров, предлагает невиданную доселе цветовую гамму, которая фактически равноценна тому, что способен воспринять человеческий глаз. Экран, состоящий из миллионов светодиодов с автономным излучателем, гарантирует идеальную передачу белого и чёрного цветов, что критически важно для правильного отображения всех нюансов картинки, задуманной режиссёром. Технология динамического контроля яркости, контраста и цветобаланса (HDR) позволяет с предельной точностью воспроизвести каждую деталь, захваченную цифровой кинокамерой при съёмке.  
Журналисты, побывавшие на запуске самого большого на сегодняшний день кинотеатрального решения Samsung Onyx (поддерживает стандарты вплоть до 2D 4K, 3D 4K), отмечают качество кинопоказа, которое явно выделяется на фоне конкурирующих проекционных систем, установленных в соседних залах мультиплекса. И даже огромный размер экрана IMAX не может играть решающей роли при выборе зала, так как кристально чистое изображение в Onyx Cinema притягивает внимание зрителей в гораздо большей степени.
Корреспондент электронной газеты The Sun Daily называет LED-экран Samsung Onyx "неоспоримо великолепным". Поговаривают, что южнокорейский техногигант проектирует ещё более впечатляющую версию LED-экрана, на сей раз 20-метрового, с поддержкой разрешения до 8K (в том числе в формате 3D) и с ещё большей частотой смены кадров. Вопрос лишь в том, сумеет ли Голливуд угнаться за таким прогрессом в области профессионального кинопоказа и обеспечить прокатчиков контентом соответствующего качества.

Samsung Onyx: a beautiful sight to behold

Samsungs's Onyx Cinema LED screen is undeniably gorgeous. Its ability to display detailed videos with dark and light elements is unparalleled, and makes for a unique cinematic experience.
Currently, there are three of them in Malaysia, each owned and operated by three different cinema chains.
The third and latest Samsung Onyx screen is located at TGV Central i-City, and is also touted as the largest of its kind in the world!
The Samsung Onyx hall at TGV Central i-City offers a screen measuring 14 metres wide and five metres high.
The hall itself is another first, and conveys the cinematic scale and grandeur that I expect from a trip to the movies.
Its 162 seats are plush, and can recline at a push of a button. Armrests with cup holders flank each of the spacious seats. I also don’t think there is a single bad seat in the hall at all.
The Samsung Onyx hall is one of nine halls at TGV Cinemas Central i-City, a brand-new concept cinema that was opened on March 23.

They can pick from a large selection of movie halls, ranging from the epic IMAX hall with its unbeatable screen size and sound system to the family-friendly halls that feature singalongs, live shows, and more.

Предполагается, что южнокорейский электронный гигант покажет модификации своих кинотеатральных LED-экранов Onyx и многоканальных систем окружающего звука от своего подразделения HARMAN, которые были впервые представлены на CinemaCon ровно 2 года назад. Сейчас кинотеатры на базе решений Samsung Onyx уже действуют на территории 16-ти стран, включая США, Китай, Индию, Францию, Германию, Бразилию и, разумеется, Южную Корею, где эта технология дебютировала.

Samsung will present advanced models of Onyx LED screens at the largest industry exhibition CinemaCon 2019

Samsung Electronics Co.’s projector-free cinema LED solution has made inroads into 16 countries since its debut two years ago, industry sources said Tuesday.
The South Korean tech giant showcased the Samsung Onyx Theater, an LED display brand designed exclusively for cinemas, at CinemaCon, the world’s biggest film industry fair, in Las Vegas in March 2017.
All theaters with the Onyx solutions provide extremely high contrast, vivid content and high dynamic range (HDR) images that can expand the boundaries of existing systems and add another level of immersive experience.
After introducing Onyx to theaters in Seoul and Busan, Samsung tapped Thailand as the first overseas market for the solution.
Since then, the cinema LED solution has been installed at 32 theaters in countries that include the United States, Germany, France and China.
China has the most theaters with Samsung Onyx with seven, followed by India with five, and South Korea and Malaysia with three each.
Industry watchers expect Samsung to clinch additional orders for the device during CinemaCon 2019, which is slated for Monday in Las Vegas.
Samsung may unveil new technologies for the solution or announce content partnerships at the film fair, they added.
Samsung has been making new attempts and signing technological tie-ups with foreign companies as part of efforts to expand its global market presence.
A super large screen, which is 14 meters wide and 7.2 meters high, was installed at a Beijing theater last year, with cinemas in South Korea, the U.S., China, Germany and India unveiling 3-D screens.
Samsung also struck business tie-ups with U.S. and French content and image quality firms.
A Samsung official said more theaters around the world are expected to introduce the Onyx solution.

В Париже кинотеатр Pathé Beaugrenelle организовал премьеру высокобюджетного французского блокбастера "Песнь волка" («Le Chant du loup») режиссёра Антонина Бодри, мастеринг которого был произведён специально с учётом возможностей экранов Samsung Onyx на студии постпродакшена известной компании Eclair. Как мы уже сообщали, Eclair оборудовала один из своих залов для цветокалибровки профессиональным 5-метровым монитором Samsung Onyx. Это позволит европейским киностудиям производить мастеринг своих кинофильмов с учётом самых передовых технических условий стандарта HDR, который заметно улучшает качество цветопередачи и прорисовки деталей изображения. Ранее подобная мастеринг-студия была открыта в Голливуде при техническом содействии Samsung.
Как сообщает французская пресса, уже в ближайшие дни прокатная компания Pathé Gaumont откроет ещё один кинотеатр Onyx, на сей раз в Лионе.

The first Samsung Onyx LED cinema halls are open in France and Brazil

Ultramodern cinema halls equipped with advanced solutions from Samsung/HARMAN are open in the capital of France and the largest city of Brazil.
At the end of February 2019, Samsung Onyx LED screens of unsurpassed quality and sound systems from JBL Professional (a division of HARMAN, the American conglomerate owned by Samsung) were installed at Pathé Beaugrenelle Paris Cinema and at Cinépolis of Shopping JK Iguatemi multiplex (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
The South Korean technology giant continues the expansion of its unique 21st century cinetechnology, which is designed to end the outdated and uncompetitive system of traditional film display by projecting onto a white screen.
Recall that even the most advanced laser projectors lose to Samsung Onyx screens in all parameters at least 3 times. This applies to such key characteristics as brightness, contrast, black level and color gamut. This is especially important when showing movies in 3D.
The first LED cinema, equipped with Samsung screens, appeared in South Korea in 2017. Subsequently, separate cinema halls, as well as Samsung Onyx multiplexes were opened in Switzerland, China, Malaysia, Austria, Germany, USA, India, Mexico, Thailand and a number of other countries. In Paris, Pathé Beaugrenelle cinema organized the premiere of high-budget French blockbuster Song of the Wolf (“Le Chant du loup”), directed by Antonin Baudry, especially mastered for Samsung Onyx Cinema on the post-production studio of well-known company Eclair. As we have already reported, Eclair equipped one of its color calibration rooms with a professional 5 meter Samsung Onyx monitor. This will allow European film studios to master their movies taking into account the most advanced technical conditions of the HDR standard (EclairColor HDR DCP mastering), which significantly improves the quality of color reproduction and drawing image details. Earlier, a similar mastering studio was opened in Hollywood with technical assistance from Samsung.
According to the French press, in the coming days, Pathé Gaumont will open another Onyx cinema, this time in Lyon.

В столице Малайзии строится ещё один кинозал Samsung Onyx

Малазийская прокатная компания MBO Cinemas сообщила, что в настоящее время завершает строительство в Куала-Лумпуре очередного зала, оборудованного самым передовым на сегодняшний день кинотеатральным решением Samsung Onyx. В системе Onyx применяется уникальный светодиодный экран с рекордными качественными характеристиками и специально разработанный звуковой комплект от американской JBL Professional (ныне принадлежит Samsung Electronics вместе с материнской мультибрэндовой корпорацией HARMAN International). Напомним, что первый кинотеатр Samsung Onyx был открыт в Малайзии несколько месяцев назад.
Новый зал расположен в однм из столичных флагманских мультиплексов MBO Atria, где зрителям предлагают лучший опыт просмотра благодаря применению новейших аудиовизуальных технологий вроде упомянутой выше Onyx или гигантского экрана IMAX со звуковым оборудованием стандарта Dolby Atmos.
Дата официального открытия 8-зального мультиплекаса пока не называется, но местная пресса сообщает, что это должно произойти в ближайшие недели.
Напомним, что самый большой экран линейки Samsung Onyx Cinema шириной более 14-ти метров был недавно открыт в столице Китая. 

In the capital of Malaysia, the next cinema hall Samsung Onyx will be opened soon

MBO Cinemas recently has revealed more details regarding the latest addition to its cineplex lineup which is located at Atria Shopping Gallery in Petaling Jaya. The new MBO Atria is said to feature 8 halls in total with one of them being equipped with Samsung Onyx LED cinema screen.
For those who followed our previous report, you might have remembered that the Samsung Onyx LED cinemas screen first made its way into Malaysia just a few months ago. At MBO Atria cineplex, the installation to deliver 4K contents (including 3D) with support for HDR alongside a sound system that can be customized to the content shown through the cinema hall.
Other than that, MBO Atria also has another hall that the company called MBO Big Screen that features a huge cinema screen that is said to be as tall as a 4-story building. Staying true to the commitment the company made to Dolby two years ago, this hall is indeed equipped with Dolby Atmos sound system.
In terms of ticket price, the MBO Atria’s Samsung Onyx hall apparently command an additional RM 3 on top of standard ticket price. The Big Screen hall on another hand also has an added fee of RM 4 per person.
MBO Atria is also the first MBO cineplex to feature digital self-service ticketing kiosks which currently support payment through credit and debit cards. Last but not least, the cineplex also features the touchscreen-based Coca-Cola Freestyle machines that allow users to obtain more than 50 drink combinations by mixing multiple beverages under the Coca-Cola umbrella through these machines.
For now, MBO has yet to reveal the actual opening date of MBO Atria. So, stay tuned for more updates from the company very soon.
