The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games marks the first time all Paralympians will receive Samsung smartphones – allowing them to capture and share their experiences and to further generate excitement for the Paralympic Movement amongst fans around the world.  Each Paralympian will receive a Galaxy Note8 as part of an exclusive pack that features a fast-charging battery pack as well as a special case that incorporates a Paralympic Winter Games interface once attached to the phone.

Accessible Experiences for All at Samsung Paralympic Showcases

Samsung will highlight its dedication to the Paralympic Movement by revamping and renaming Samsung Olympic Showcases as Samsung Paralympic Showcases. Popular features that attracted over 430,000 people during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will continue to entertain visitors, including 4D VR experiences powered by the Galaxy Note8 such as ‘The Mission to Space VR: A Moon for All Mankind,’ as well as snowboarding and other winter sports. New Storytelling Through the Eyes of Samsung Paralympic Blogger Program
Samsung will once again partner with the IPC to share behind-the-scenes Games-Time experiences with fans around the world through the Samsung Paralympic Bloggers Program. For PyeongChang 2018, 25 Paralympians, team officials and reporters were selected to use their creativity to share unique content and their own #DoWhatYouCant stories, which will be uploaded on various digital platforms including the IPC’s official YouTube channel, Twitter and Facebook, as well as bloggers’ respective social media accounts.

Adapting the PyeongChang 2018 App to Deliver a Better Paralympic Games Experience

Samsung is once again powering the custom mobile application, as an effort to further enhance the PyeongChang 2018 experience for all, ensuring smarter communications and smoother wireless operations during the Paralympic Winter Games. The all-in-one app, created in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG), received more than 1,280,000 downloads during the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 period, and has been updated to provide the official Paralympic Games schedule, venue and event information, results, medal counts, and more real-time updates during the Paralympic Games.

During the first few days of PyeongChang 2018, athletes from Korea, Italy, and India  experienced the Samsung Olympic Showcase in Gangneung Olympic Park. Samsung Electronics Brings Excitement to Fans, Athletes and Officials at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 through Innovative Experiences at the Samsung Olympic Showcase

Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications and Computing Equipment category, is bringing technological innovations to the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 through interactive experiences at the new Samsung Olympic Showcases. Samsung will encourage fans and athletes to “Do What You Can’t” through fun, immersive experiences across multiple Samsung Olympic Showcases.
Throughout the Olympic Winter Games, a total of nine Samsung Olympic Showcases, featuring a mix of cultural, technological and immersive fan experiences, will be in PyeongChang and Gangneung, including Olympic Parks and the Olympic Villages, the Main Press Center, and four at the Incheon International Airport. Samsung Olympic Showcases @ PyeongChang Olympic Plaza and @ Gangneung Olympic Park opening on February 9th will provide visitors with engaging experiences incorporating Samsung’s legacy of breakthrough innovation and interactive activities powered by Samsung technology.
Athletes and fans will first experience the Samsung brand history and heritage in engineering, design, and craftsmanship, and then the partnership history with the Olympic Games. Then through interactive experiences, visitors will be able to feel the exhilaration and escape into real-world thrills in winter sports through VR including snowboarding and skeleton, as well as participate in alpine and cross-country skiing contests that will challenge fans’ fitness capacity. For the first time, visitors will be able to experience the ‘Mission to Space VR: A Moon for All Mankind’ created by Samsung. Visitors will experience a full space mission including mission briefing, trying on the training suits and helmets, and the truly immersive experience in the Moon rig where they will feel lunar gravity with every step.

Visitors will experience and engage with Samsung’s products and Galaxy brand through a variety of activities through a comfortable, interactive environment, including:

* Immersive VR Experiences: Unique VR experiences powered by the Galaxy Note8 will allow fans to escape into exhilarating moments on the fresh mountain slopes in snowboarding and skeleton as well as escape to space in Mission to Space VR: A Moon for All Mankind’ – available to consumers to experience for the first time. Other experiences include simulated skiing adventures.

* Playful Experiences: Promoting the playful side of technology, Portrait Pool allows visitors to turn their “selfies” into painted characters for social sharing, S Pen Gallery to create own portraits with Galaxy Note8 and S pen as a paint brush, Infinity Moment to create user generated content with the Galaxy Note8.

* Kids Lounge: A dedicated kids lounge in a hands-on zone, where kids can play, learn and explore Samsung products and expand their creativity through hands-on experience.

* Smart Home (IoT): Multi Device and futuristic demos powered by mobile technology that showcase the IoT, helping visitors to imagine the future lifestyle.

Северокорейские и иранские спортсмены не смогут получить бесплатные смартфоны из-за существующих для этих стран санкций ООН на торговлю предметами роскоши, сообщает агентство France Press.
Во время Олимпийских игр южнокорейский вендор Samsung Electronics, который является одним из генеральных спонсоров этих соревнований,  бесплатно раздаст спортсменам и официальным лицам МОК 4.000 новых смартфонов Samsung Galaxy Note 8, однако высокая розничная цена (около $ 920 в Южной Корее) позволяет причислить их к предметам роскоши.
Всего на Олимпийских играх в Пхёнчхане выступят 22 спортсмена из КНДР (12 в составе объединённой сборной Кореи) и 4 представителя Ирана.
Впрочем, даже если бы санкциий не было, северокорейским спортсменам всё-равно не пришлось бы воспользоваться вожделенными девайсами. На прошлой летней Олимпиаде в Рио-де-Жанейро агенты спецслужб, сопровождающие сборную КНДР, конфисковали смартфоны Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge сразу же после их вручения спортсменам. Помимо жесточайшей цензуры, установленной режимом правящей династии Кимов (запрет на "непроверенный контент", а также применение GPS), и не допускающей таких "вольностей", как обладание "империалистической заразой", пользоваться смартфонами зарубежных марок на территории Северной Кореи практически невозможно, поскольку они используют другие частотные диапазоны. Исключение могут составлять лишь районы, граничащие с Южной Кореей, Китаем и Россией, где можно принимать сигнал зарубежных операторов.

North Korean athletes can’t take Olympic-edition Samsung phones home with them

UN sanctions, GPS-enabled devices, and the South Korean brand make it hard for North Koreans to even think about accepting the limited edition handsets

Winter Olympics attendees from North Korea, as well as Iran, won’t be able to take their Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phones back home due to United Nations sanctions, the event’s organizers said today, as reported by AFP. This year, Samsung, for the second Olympics in a row, made a special version of the Galaxy Note 8 to distribute to athletes and organizers. It’s not the only promotion of its flagship phone that the tech giant engages in — the Note 8 has also heavily appeared on Korean dramas over the past year, as actors on TV shows tend to all use Samsung devices.
“The IOC will provide mobile phones to all athletes and officials of all countries participating at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018,” the Olympic organizers said in a statement. “Regarding North Korea and Iran, all participants are requested not to take the phones back to their home country but to only use them during their stay in PyeongChang, since that is required to allow them to participate in the Games.”
Since the regular Note 8 phone costs $920 in South Korea, or 1,000,000 won, and the Olympic edition will no doubt be priced higher, it could be considered a luxury good, which is banned by the UN sanctions on North Korea. It’s also possible that it could be considered a “dual use” good that could also be used for the military. Many countries have raised sanctions against North Korea and Iran, typically over military weapons testing, within the last few years. The UN recently adopted even tougher sanctions against North Korea starting last December.
As a long-time sponsor of the Olympics, Samsung has been supplying the international sports competition with cellphones since 1997. In 2016, it released an Olympic edition of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, available to athletes and consumers in select countries who were quick to order the limited supply. That version had the colors of the Olympics: a yellow home button, a red power button, green volume controls, and a blue bezel near the camera. This year’s Olympic edition looks more somber, with a black front and a white back.
Even in 2016, North Korean athletes were unable to accept the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phones, as their Olympic committee reportedly withheld it from their 31 attending athletes. The phones also violate North Korean laws banning GPS devices and uncensored access to high-speed internet. They also bear the Samsung logo, which as a South Korean brand may be a red flag for the North Korean government, which has had strained relations with its southern neighbor since the split in 1945.

Участникам Паралимпийских игр также достанутся такие смартфоны,упакованные в футляр с логотипом соревнований.
Как отметили в Samsung, олимпийская модификация Note 8 выйдет лимитированным тиражом в количестве чуть более 4 тысяч штук. Она получит блестящее белоснежное стекло, украшенное золотым логотипом Олимпийских игр, а также предустановленные тематические обои и ряд специальных приложений. В остальном фаблет не будет отличаться от потребительской версии.
Впрочем, не исключено, что ограниченные партии "зимних" Note 8 всё же будут доступны. Например, к летним Олимпийским играм 2016 года, прошедшим в Рио-де-Жанейро, подразделение Samsung Mobile приурочило выпуск Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games. Его можно было купить в магазинах США, Бразилии, Китая, Южной Кореи и Германии, но каждая из этих стран получила только по 2016 таких устройств.
