Samsung открыл доступ к One Hand Operation+ в магазине Google Play. Приложение работает только на устройствах южнокорейского техногиганта. Как следует из названия, это программное расширение позволяет легко перемещаться по меню смартфона с помощью одной руки, не касаясь дисплея.
Эти жесты могут использоваться для таких функций, как возврат назад, переход на домашний экран, переход к последнему приложению, переход к меню, переход в вэб-браузер, открытие панели уведомлений, открытие панели быстрого доступа, открытие помощника, скриншот и многое другое. Жесты могут быть организованы слева или справа относительно дисплея, в зависимости от того, правша вы или левша. 
То, как мы теперь управляем нашими смартфонами, прошло долгий путь. Первые Android-устройства имели аппаратные кнопки под дисплеем. После этого мы начали использовать кнопки на экране и теперь у нас есть жестовое управление. Жесты не новы, но теперь они встроены в Android Pie, что облегчает их реализацию на смартфонах. Так как трубки Samsung последних поколений довольно большие, одной рукой управляются телефоны, работающие на One UI. Сегодня управлять большим смартфоном Samsung стадо ещё проще.

The app is compatible with Samsung devices only and brings with it gesture navigations to navigate the device

Samsung has released its One Hand Operation+ app on the Google Play Store. The app officially works on Samsung devices only. As the name suggests, the app makes it easy to navigate one's Samsung smartphone with just one hand. Users can perform various swipe gestures from the edge of the display to perform certain actions. 
These swipe gestures can be for functions like going back, going to the home screen, going to the recent app, navigating to the menu, going forward in a web browser, opening the notifications panel, opening the quick panel, opening the assistant, taking a screenshot, pulling the screen down, going into one handed mode and more. The gestures can be to the left or the right of the screen based on whether you are a right handed user or a left handed user.
The way we navigate our smartphones has come a long way. The first Android devices had hardware buttons below the display. After that we started seeing on screen buttons and now we have gestures. Gestures aren't new, but they are baked into Android Pie making them easier to implement on smartphones.
Since Samsung’s phones are quite big, one handed operation is baked into the phones running on One UI. It is easier to navigate a big Samsung smartphone today than it was before with one hand. 
Samsung’s One UI is available on devices as old as the S8 and Note 8 family of devices. However, the Samsung One Hand Operation+ is a nice way of giving Samsung’s other device users an experience of gesture based navigation.

В Южной Корее возродят некогда популярную марку смартфонов SKY, принадлежавшую Pantech

В последние годы гаджетоманы наблюдали совершенно нездоровую ситуацию на рынке смартфонов, когда демпингующие китайцы последовательно уничтожали своих конкурентов. Но возможно, этот процесс будет приостановлен южнокорейцами, которые хотят возродить популярную в своё время серию мобильных трубок Sky.
Когда-то под маркой Sky продавались смартфоны ныне разорившейся компании Pantech, имевшей в своём продуктовом наборе весьма интересные аппараты.
Однако, с выходом на международный рынок дешёвых "китайцев", третий по величине южнокорейский производитель мобильных устройств не выдержал конкуренции и был дважды перепродан. Сначала им завладела компания SOLiD, которой так и не удалось возродить мобильный бизнес Pantech, а позже её перекупила (вместе со всеми долгами) структура под названием K&A Holdings. Некоторые эксперты мобильного рынка считали, что Pantech вместе с её патентами и квалифицированным персоналом мог бы стать довольно выгодной покупкой для Samsung (например, чтобы противостоять дешёвым "китайцам"), однако техногигант почему-то не заинтересовался приобретением такого актива.
В настоящее время Pantech занимается лишь продажей и лицензированием принадлежащих ей патентов, а также постпродажным обслуживанием выпущенных ранее смартфонов.
В понедельник стало известно, что южнокорейская компания Good Mobile намерена возродить брэнд смартфонов Sky, сообщает технопортал Pulse. Как оказалось, она получила эксклюзивные права на этот брэнд у K&A Holdings. Кроме того, Good Mobile выкупила подразделение Pantech, занимающееся послепродажным обслуживанием смартфонов компании.
Новый владелец марки привлёк к разработке перспективных моделей инженеров Pantech. Однако новые смартфоны будут выходить под маркой Sky (без упоминания Pantech в названии). Ради лучшей конкурентоспособности заказы на производство новых гаджетов будут размещаться у зарубежных OEM-производителей.
Первый продукт представят в ближайшие дни – это наушники Sky Earset. До конца июня ожидается выход ещё двух новинок, но это уже смартфоны: 6-дюймовый Sky One на Android Pie стоимостью 12-18 тысяч рублей (в зависимости от начинки) и ориентированная на старшее поколение раскладушка Sky Folder за 6.000 рублей. Поначалу новинки будут продаваться только в Южной Корее. А дальше всё будет зависеть от того, насколько успешным окажется начинание Good Mobile. Если бизнес начнёт приносить хорошую прибыль, Sky наверняка предложат и на других рынках (в том числе российском).
В любом случае такие новости можно только приветствовать, поскольку наметившийся на горизонте монополизм китайцев начинает вызывать тревогу у всех здравомыслящих людей.

Korea’s Good Mobile to re-launch SKY-branded phones in H1

South Korea’s secondhand phone seller Good Mobile will revive and launch SKY brand smartphone and folder phone within the first half of this year. 
The company announced Monday that it signed a comprehensive agreement with Pantech, the nation’s smallest handset maker owning SKY brand, to have an exclusive license to manufacture SKY phones and take over SKY and Pantech service centers. 
Under the agreement, the company will launch each smartphone and folder phone semiannually in cooperation with researchers from Pantech. The new phones will be manufactured overseas in the form of original equipment manufacturing (OEM), and supplied to the nation’s three major wireless carriers – KT, SK Telecom and LG Uplus – as well as budget mobile carriers. Its smartphone is expected to be available at 200,000 won ($178) to 300,000 won, and folder phone at around 100,000 won. 
The company will also restore service center channels for SKY, which in its heyday was No. 2 in the cellular phone market. The brand that has failed to keep its competitiveness amid fierce competition with global smartphone markers like Samsung and Apple saw the number of its service centers shrink from more than to the current 13. Good Mobile aims to increase the number to at least 50 by the end of this year. 
Its first SKY smartphone will feature blue-tooth function and wireless earbuds. The company will also launch related internet of things (IoT) and mobile devices. 
“SKY brand is an important asset in Korea’s mobile industry,” said Park Jong-il, chief executive of Good Mobile. “At a time when 5G network is being expanded across the country, we will provide more various options for phones and devices to domestic consumers.”

Вслед за обновлением актуальных флагманов Galaxy S9 и Galaxy S9 Plus техногигант Samsung опубликовал список устройств, которые получат новейшую операционную систему Android Pie. По сообщению профильного ресурса XDA Developers, «дорожная карта», появившаяся в приложении Samsung Members, включает более двух десятков гаджетов и сроки их перехода на свежую ревизию «зелёного робота» с фирменной оболочкой One UI.
Пользовательский интерфейс Samsung One UI модифицирован для удобства использования Android-устройств одной рукой и поддерживает жестовое управление. Флагманские Galaxy S9 и Galaxy S9 Plus уже начали получать обновление в некоторых регионах, прошивка для Galaxy Note 9 находится в статусе бэта-версии и начнёт распространяться в феврале 2019-го. Всего в список вошли 24 аппарата линейки Samsung Galaxy, включая планшеты.
Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus и Galaxy Note 8 должны получить новую прошивку к марту. Прочие устройства среднего и бюджетного ценовых диапазонов начнут получать обновление, начиная с апреля. Всего до октября следующего года на девятую ревизию Android и новую фирменную оболочку смогут перейти владельцы 24 аппаратов южнокорейского вендора.

Here’s when the Samsung Galaxy S8, Note 8, and 22 other devices will get the Android Pie update

Android Pie, in itself, brought several changes to the Android framework itself, as well as to the user interface and the overall user experience. Some features were introduced, and some were removed, for better or worse, but the overall experience is a lot different from Android Oreo. Android Pie has been released now to several devices from many manufacturers, either in stable or beta status. And with 2019 being just a week away, Samsung has now detailed their official One UI (Android 9 Pie) update roadmap which includes devices like the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 9, and many others.
Samsung’s One UI update brings a system-wide dark theme, a redesign with an emphasis on one-handed ease-of-use, new full-screen gestures, and more. Flagship phones like the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are already receiving the update and the Galaxy Note 9 is already running beta builds. The official update roadmap has gone live on the Samsung Members app, detailing Android Pie update ETAs for 24 Samsung Galaxy flagship and mid-range phones. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Samsung Galaxy S9+ are obviously first on the list, with both devices expected to globally receive a stable One UI update by January. The Galaxy Note 9 will then follow in February, while their previous generation flagship phones, the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 are set to receive the update by March. Their mid-range/low-end devices will then follow from April onwards.
There are some notable omissions from the list, particularly including the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge—both devices have already received their 2 major updates (Android Nougat and Android Oreo) and are thus not eligible for another one. Also excluded from this list is the Galaxy Note FE (Galaxy Note 7), which was rumored a few weeks back to be receiving the Android Pie update.
