What Digital Butler brings to your Samsung TV

Nowadays it seems like almost everything can connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Because of this, keeping track of all your connected devices or appliances can get confusing. But Digital Butler, which is coming soon to Samsung TVs, can take care of all that for you. It can even control devices too!

What is Digital Butler?

Digital Butler is coming to 2020 Samsung TVs this summer. This feature will discover your nearby wireless devices or appliances and connect them to the TV. This includes legacy devices (older devices) that use infrared remote controls. You can see the list in the next section for more details. Digital Butler will also make a chart of all connected devices, so you’ll see them all in one place.
On top of all this, you’ll be able to control most of your connected devices with Digital Butler! Once the devices have been discovered, they can be controlled using your TV’s remote.

Инсайдер Эван Бласс опубликовал качественный пресс-рендер новейших смарт-часов Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, которые ещё не представлены официально. Изображение в деталях раскрывает особенности дизайна и конструкции этого носимого устройства, анонс которого ожидается в ближайшее время.

Согласно множественным утечкам, 45-миллиметровая версия часов получит корпус из нержавеющей стали, а также будет доступна версия из титанового сплава. На тыльной стороне гаджета разместится новый оптический пульсометр, а также интегрированные сенсоры для измерения кровяного давления и ЭКГ. Особенностями модели также станут 22-миллиметровый кожаный ремешок и классический вращающийся безель для навигации по меню.

Как и предыдущие версии серий Gear S и Galaxy Watch, новые смарт-часы будут оснащены двумя аппаратными клавишами, размещёнными с правой стороны корпуса. Согласно предыдущим утечкам, девайс получит круглый 1,4-дюймовый интерактивный дисплей, 1Гб ОЗУ и 8Гб встроенной памяти. 45-миллиметровой версии приписывают аккумулятор ёмкостью 340 мАч. Работать гаджет будет под управлением фирменной операционной системы TIZEN OS 5.5.

Разумеется, в продаже появится версия меньшего размера (41мм), а также модификации с поддержкой мобильной связи LTE/4G.

High-quality renderings of the latest Samsung smart watches are published on the Web

Insider Evan Blass has published a high-quality press render of the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, which have not yet been officially unveiled. The image in detail reveals the design and construction features of this wearable device, the announcement of which is expected in the near future.

According to multiple leaks, the 45mm version of the watch will receive a stainless steel case, and a titanium alloy version will also be available. On the back of the gadget will be a new optical heart rate monitor, as well as integrated sensors for measuring blood pressure and ECG. Features of the model will also be a 22-mm leather strap and a classic rotating bezel for easy navigation on the menu.

Like previous versions of the Gear S and Galaxy Watch series, the new smart watch will be equipped with two hardware keys located on the right side of the case. According to previous leaks, the device will receive a round 1.4-inch interactive display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. The 45 mm version should get a 340 mAh battery. Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 will work on the basis of the TIZEN 5.5 proprietary operating system.

Of course, a smaller version (41mm) will appear on sale, as well as modifications with support for LTE / 4G mobile communications.

По предварительным данным, новая линейка Galaxy Watch 2020 года получит и более мощную аппаратную платформу с 1Гб ОЗУ в базовых версиях и 1,5Гб ОЗУ в LTE-модификациях. Кроме того, по сравнению с предшественниками, в 2 раза будет увеличен объём постоянной памяти, что позволит устанавливать большее количество приложений и значительно расширить коллекцию музыкальных трэков.
Презентация Galaxy Watch 3 должна состояться либо на отдельном онлайн-мероприятии в июле, либо 5 августа в рамках Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020.

Certification documents revealed the design of Samsung's new smartwatch

This proprietary Samsung solution has long been loved by many users of premium smartwatches and they will undoubtedly be happy to replenish the lineup with a classic form factor.
Photos of future watches appeared on the website of the Korean regulatory agency, where they passed certification shortly before the presentation. The device is presented in two versions at once, differing in size and appearance. According to the information received, the new Galaxy Watch 3 will be presented with a screen diagonal of 1.2 and 1.4 inches. It is expected that the Galaxy Watch 3 will be made in stainless steel or titanium cases, and the display is covered with tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass DX. They will operate under the TIZEN proprietary operating system of the most current version 5.5 and will be able, among other things, to measure blood pressure and take ECG readings, which is the prerogative of very few models available on the global market.
Of course, in countries where mobile operators support eSIM virtual electronic card technology, LTE versions of this watch will appear, which will allow you to use the Galaxy Watch 3 without being tied to smartphones.
In fact, such modifications of smart watches will allow replacing familiar communicators burdening the pockets of their owners.
According to preliminary data, the new Galaxy Watch line in 2020 will receive a more powerful hardware platform with 1GB of RAM in the basic versions and 1.5GB of RAM in LTE versions. The new signage is designed to be wall-mounted and is available in 65-, 75-, 82- and 98-inch versions perfect for a wide range of business needs.

Последний смартфон на операционной системе TIZEN был выпущен южнокорейским техногигантом в конце мая 2017 года. Это была ультрабюджетная модель Samsung Z4 стоимостью около 90 долларов США и продавалась она на ограниченном количестве развивающихся рынков, в основном на территории Индии, ЮАР и ещё нескольких стран.
В настоящее время 4 модели смартфонов на TIZEN OS, выпущенных корпорацией Samsung Electronics в период с 2015 по 2017, имеют хождение на территории 18-ти развивающихся стран Азии, Африки и Латинской Америки. Владельцы смартфонов серии Samsung Z (без упоминания фирменной марки Galaxy) могут пользоваться магазином приложений TIZEN Store, где имеются практически все базовые программы для расширения возможностей этих девайсов.
Однако откровенно низкие характеристики смартфонов и довольно сырая (на тот момент) версия мобильной TIZEN не позволили Samsung пойти дальше небольшого эксперимента.
Но с тех пор прошло достаточно времени и новые версии TIZEN OS отлично зарекомендовали себя во всех основных сегментах - от смарт-часов до телевизоров и сложной бытовой техники. В настоящее время TIZEN является лидером в сегменте смарт-телевизоров и занимает 2-е место на рынке премиальных смарт-часов. Похоже, что для Samsung настало время задуматься о возвращении TIZEN в свои смартфоны, тем более, что претензий к устаревшей Android OS становится всё больше. Это касается как оптимизации американской  операционной системы, так и безопасности её использования.
Учитывая тот факт, что китайская компания Huawei (главный конкурент Samsung в сегменте мобильных устройств) в 2020-м году собирается выпустить первые смартфоны на собственной операционной системе HongMeng (в Европе она будет представлена как Harmony OS), лидеру мирового рынка смартфонов также необходимо задуматься о создании собственной альтернативы.
В конце ноября официальный интернет-ресурс разработчиков TIZEN опубликовал информацию о выходе публичной версии этой операционной системы (а именно 5.5), которая сопровождалась обновлённым баннером, недвусмысленно намекая на существование новой мобильной версии.
Несмотря на многочисленные слухи о том, что Samsung якобы свернул проект развития мобильного направления в TIZEN, сфокусировав внимание на продвижении этой платформы в сегменте интернета вещей (IoT), южнокорейский электронный гигант никогда не делал официальных заявлений о закрытии мобильной версии.
Примерно 1,5 года назад нашим редакторам с большим трудом удалось обнаружить сообщение в японской прессе, цитировавшей неназванного топ-менеджера Samsung, который заявил, что развитие мобильной TIZEN приостановлено, но не закрыто полностью. Он дал понять, что корпорация может вернуться к идее выпуска TIZEN-смартфонов через пару лет.

Samsung will return TIZEN OS to smartphones?

The latest smartphone on the TIZEN operating system was released by the South Korean techgiant at the end of May 2017. It was an ultra-budget model Samsung Z4 with a cost of about 90 US dollars and it was sold in a limited number of emerging markets, mainly in India, South Africa and several other countries.
Currently, 4 models of smartphones on TIZEN OS, released by Samsung Electronics from 2015 to 2017, are in use in 18 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Owners of smartphones of the Samsung Z series (without the Galaxy brand) can use the TIZEN Store application store, where there are almost all basic programs to expand the capabilities of these devices.
However, the low characteristics of these smartphones and the rather crude (at that time) version of the TIZEN mobile OS did not allow Samsung to go further than a small experiment.
But since then, enough time has passed and the new versions of TIZEN OS have good proven themselves in almost all segments - from smartwatches to televisions and sophisticated household appliances. Currently, TIZEN is a leader in the segment of smart TVs and takes the 2nd place in the market of premium smartwatches. It seems that it's time for Samsung to think about returning TIZEN to its smartphones, especially since there are more and more claims to obsolete Android OS. This applies to both the optimization of the American operating system and the security of its use.
Given the fact that the Chinese company Huawei (Samsung’s main competitor in the segment of mobile devices) is going to release the first smartphones on its own HongMeng operating system in 2020 (it will be presented as Harmony OS in Europe), the leader of global smartphone market also needs to think about creating your own alternative.
At the end of November, the official Internet resource of TIZEN developers published information on the release of a public version of this operating system (namely 5.5), which was accompanied by an updated banner, clearly hinting at the existence of a new mobile version.
Despite numerous rumors that Samsung allegedly curtailed the development of the mobile direction in TIZEN, focusing on promoting this platform in the Internet of Things (IoT) segment, the South Korean electronic giant has never made official statements about the closure of the mobile version.
About 1.5 years ago, our editors with great difficulty managed to find a message in the Japanese press, quoting an unnamed top manager Samsung, who said that the development of mobile TIZEN was suspended, but not completely closed. He made it clear that the corporation could return to the idea of releasing TIZEN smartphones in a couple of years.
Judging by the updated banner on TIZEN.org, which clearly indicates the direction of mobile devices, Samsung, which is the main sponsor of the development of TIZEN, has a "plan B" in case of refusal of Google services.
Currently, the capabilities of the mobile version of TIZEN are such that they allow the manufacturer to implement this platform, at least in the entry-level and mid-range devices. And this covers the bulk of Samsung’s user audience.
Considering that the other day Samsung opened another branch of its TIZEN Academy in India, it can be assumed that after some time the tech giant will place its main stake on this platform.

Опубликован 2-й тестовый (milestone) выпуск мобильной платформы TIZEN 5.5. Выпуск ориентирован на ознакомление разработчиков с новыми возможностями платформы. Код поставляется под лицензиями GPLv2, Apache 2.0 и BSD. Сборки сформированы для эмулятора, плат Raspberry Pi 3, odroid u3, odroid x u3, artik 710/530/533 и различных мобильных платформ на базе архитектур armv7l и arm64.
Проект развивается под покровительством организации Linux Foundation, но последнее время, в основном, силами техногиганта Samsung. Платформа продолжает развитие проектов MeeGo и LiMO и отличается предоставлением возможности использования Web API и web-технологий (HTML5/JavaScript/CSS) для создания мобильных приложений. Графическое окружение построено на основе протокола Wayland и наработках проекта Enlightenment, для управления сервисами применяется Systemd.

Особенности TIZEN 5.5 M2:

* Добавлен высокоуровневый API для классификации изображений, выявления объектов на фотографиях и распознавания лиц с использованием методов глубокого машинного обучения на базе нейронных сетей. Для обработки моделей применяется пакет TensorFlow Lite. Поддерживаются модели в форматах Caffe и TensorFlow. Добавлен набор GStreamer-плагинов NNStreamer 1.0;
* Добавлена поддержка многооконных окружений и устройств с несколькими экранами;
* В подсистему DALi (3D UI Toolkit) добавлен бэкенд для использования API отрисовки платформы Android;
* Добавлен API Motion для отрисовки векторной анимации, основанный на библиотеке Lottie;
* Проведена оптимизация правил D-Bus и сокращено потребление памяти;
* Добавлена поддержка платформы .NET Core 3.0 и добавлен API Native UI для C#;
* Реализована возможность добавления собственных эффектов для анимации открытия окон при запуске приложений. Добавлен готовый эффект для анимирования переключения между окнами;
* Добавлена поддержка протокола DPMS (Display Power Management Signaling) для перевода экрана в энергосберегающий режим;
* Добавлен Sticker Framework для извлечения информации с идентификационных стикеров;
* Добавлен распределённый web-движок Castanets (Multi-Device Distributed Web Engine) на базе Chromium, позволяющий разносить обработку web-контента на несколько устройств. Движок Chromium-efl обновлён до выпуска 69;
* Добавлен режим быстрого подключения к беспроводной сети (DPP - Wi-Fi easy connect). Connman обновлён до выпуска 1.37 с поддержкой WPA3, а wpa_supplicant до выпуска 2.8;
* Добавлен фреймворк Battery-Monitor для отслеживания потребления ресурсов приложениями и анализа их влияния на энергопотребление;
* Библиотеки EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Library) обновлены до версии 1.23. Wayland обновлён до версии 1.17. Добавлена библиотека libwayland-egl. В дисплейном сервере Enlightenment добавлена поддержка программных клавиш.

We are pleased to announce the first milestone release of TIZEN 5.5. The TIZEN 5.5 Public M1 release provides developers with the TIZEN kernel, device drivers, middleware subsystems, and Native/Web/TIZENFX APIs.

Key highlights of this release are as follows:

* Embedded speech recognition engine has been added as a Speech To Text (STT) engine
* Supports multi-assistant framework that supports multiple assistants at the same time
* .NET Wearable UI extension (TIZEN.Wearable.CircularUI) 1.2.0 is supported
* Lottie animation viewer has been added.
* Support for the High resolution(4K/8K) has been added. Display server can display the multi-resolution windows with the fullscreen size on a screen
* Web Engine Upgrade Framework has been added
* WRTjs (the new type of JavaScript-based WRT Framework) has been added
* Smack rules will be loaded directly from security-manager DB. All rule files have been removed
* Memory management for long-lived process like background-locked application has been enhanced
* Various types of notifications have been provided to represent various information
* Neural Network Runtime & Neural Network Streamer have been added (Experimental Release)
