Samsung Electronics объявил о запуске нового сервиса(1) SmartThings Find, который поможет быстро и легко находить устройства Galaxy(2) под управлением Android 8 и выше, а также TIZEN 5.5 и выше. SmartThings Find использует технологии Bluetooth с низким энергопотреблением (BLE)(3) и сверхширокополосную связь (UWB)(4) для обнаружения смартфонов, планшетов и носимых девайсов Galaxy.

«Офлайн» не значит «недоступен»

После того, как гаджет 30 минут находится в автономном режиме, он подаёт сигнал BLE, который может получить другой девайс. Если сообщить об утере с помощью SmartThings Find, любой находящийся поблизости смартфон или планшет Galaxy, может помочь в поисках, уведомив сервер Samsung о своём местонахождении. Оттуда сигнал поступит к владельцу потерявшегося девайса. Все пользовательские данные SmartThings Find зашифрованы и надёжно защищены, поэтому местоположение устройства не будет раскрыто посторонним.

Подробные инструкции для поисков Galaxy

Найти пропавший гаджет несложно благодаря инструкциям на карте и возможности «позвонить» на устройство. Достаточно открыть SmartThings Find и выбрать девайс, который надо найти, после чего его точное местоположение будет указано на карте. Приблизившись к нужной точке, пользователь может включить звуковой сигнал или функцию «Поиск поблизости»(6), основанную на дополненной реальности: на экране появится цветная графика, которая становится ярче по мере приближения к предмету.

Доступность

Доступ к SmartThings Find будет открыт после обновления SmartThings. Чтобы начать пользоваться сервисом, достаточно нажать на баннер в нижней части главного экрана приложения. Кроме того, с начала следующего года Samsung распространит работу сервиса и на брелки-метки, которые позволят находить не только устройства Galaxy, но и другие предметы.

Samsung Launches SmartThings Find, a New Way To Quickly and Easily Locate Your Galaxy Devices

Samsung Electronics announced the launch of SmartThings Find, a new service1 that helps you quickly and easily locate Galaxy devices.2 After 6 million3 users across Korea, the U.K. and U.S. signed up for early access to the service, SmartThings Find is ready for a global launch on devices running Android 8 or later and TIZEN 5.5 or later. SmartThings Find uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)4 and ultra-wideband (UWB)5 technologies to help people find select Galaxy smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and earbuds.

“Utilizing the latest in BLE and UWB technology, SmartThings Find will make your life less stressful when it comes to searching for misplaced Galaxy devices,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the added advantage of using AR6 in conjunction with maps and sounds to guide you back to your devices, SmartThings Find is a simple and visual solution that will help you easily locate your favorite devices. Easily Find More of Your Devices

After completing a quick registration process, SmartThings users can easily find their Galaxy devices – from smartphones, tablets and smartwatches, down to each individual earbud. Whether you dropped your Galaxy Note20 Ultra behind the sofa, can’t remember where you stashed your Galaxy Buds Live, or left your Galaxy Watch3 somewhere so secure you can’t find it, the SmartThings Find service will help you keep more of your Galaxy devices safe through the easy-to-use SmartThings app.

Offline Doesn’t Mean “Off-The-Grid”

With the SmartThings Find service, you can easily locate your missing device even if it’s offline.7 That’s because SmartThings users can now opt in to securely use their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others locate their lost devices. Once a device has been offline for 30 minutes, it produces a BLE signal that can be received by other devices. If you report your device as lost via SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has opted into helping find misplaced devices can alert the Samsung server about its location, which will in turn notify you. All SmartThings Find user data is encrypted and securely protected, ensuring that the device’s location is not revealed to anyone except its owner.

Find Your Galaxy Faster With More Detailed Directions

Locating your missing device is a breeze with integrated map directions and the ability to “ring” a lost device to find it more quickly. When you lose a device, you can simply open SmartThings Find on your smartphone or tablet and select the device you want to locate. Your smartphone will then show you the exact location of your device on a map. Once you’re close to your device, you can choose to either have your device “ring” or locate it using the AR-based Search Nearby function,6 which displays color graphics that increase in intensity when you are getting closer to your device.

Availability

Starting today, a new software update for the SmartThings app will be released for Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 8 or later around the world.1 After that, users can access the SmartThings Find service by tapping the banner at the bottom of the home screen in the SmartThings app. In addition, from early next year, Samsung will further expand these capabilities to tracking tags, which will help users locate their favorite items, not only for Galaxy devices, but also others as well.

What Digital Butler brings to your Samsung TV

What is Digital Butler?

Digital Butler is coming to 2020 Samsung TVs this summer. This feature will discover your nearby wireless devices or appliances and connect them to the TV. This includes legacy devices (older devices) that use infrared remote controls. You can see the list in the next section for more details. Digital Butler will also make a chart of all connected devices, so you’ll see them all in one place.

Samsung 2020 8K QLED TV lineup earns Wi-Fi 6 certificate

Samsung Electronics announced its 2020 QLED 8K TV lineup has become the world’s first TV sets to meet the requirements of the newest wireless standard Wi-Fi 6. 
The certificate was granted by Wi-Fi Alliance, a non-profit organization that promotes Wi-Fi technology and certificates Wi-Fi products, early this month. 
Wi-Fi 6 is the newest wireless standard with higher transmission throughput while saving on power, translating to smoother 8K streaming capabilities. 
Samsung’s 2020 8K resolution QLED TV is the only 8K TV worldwide supporting the Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, enabling customers to enjoy more seamless entertainment experience with smoother streaming and gaming, on top of unconstrained internet access. 
“The company won the certificate in a preemptive measure to stay competitive in the future premium TV market. As an industry leader, we’ll keep up efforts to apply the latest technology to our product lineup to give more benefits to consumers,” said an official at Samsung Electronics.

New Galaxy Watch and Watch Active UX Offers Users Enhanced Features Found on Galaxy Watch Active2

The Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users will soon be able to enjoy all the user experience functionality found on the Galaxy Watch Active2 thanks to a new software update. Samsung Electronics is bringing a range of dynamic updates to its earlier-generation watches, including enhanced Samsung Health features, Bixby features, and customization options.
Once Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users download the latest software update, they will be able to take fuller advantage of what Bixby has to offer, including using Bixby Voice to start exercise routines, find out time differences between places, and easily control their SmartThings ecosystem. Not only does Bixby learn from your routine and become more helpful over time, but its newly expanded language capabilities include British English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
With this latest upgrade, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active users will also be able to customize their Watch faces more than ever before. Across all of our Galaxy Watch models, users will now have access to 24 new sub-dials and complications, building on the 17 already available, making the watch even more customizable, so users can access exactly the information they want, where they want it. And notably, the improved UX will bring our new My Style feature to Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active for the first time.
The new update brings several new UX features to both the TIZEN-powered Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active as well, significantly streamlining the user experience. Icons for in-use apps have been moved to the bottom of the watch face, helping users keep track of and quickly access any apps with in-progress tasks, such as outgoing calls. Additionally, the current time will now always be displayed on-screen when the stopwatch app is in use or users are on a call, and users can more easily customize the icons in their quick panel thanks to a change in layout. Other UX benefits include a clearer graphic UI, easier user interaction, and new emoji offerings in a range of diverse skin tones. For Galaxy Watch Active users, a new Touch Bezel interface is included in the upgrade, allowing users to navigate using finger swipe actions around the bezel.
The new UX also features a number of new capabilities for Samsung Health. Users can now keep track of their fitness goals through the Daily Active feature, as well as track lap times while running or cycling. And as part of the expanded heart monitoring suite, Galaxy Watch will now support a Low Heart Rate Alert.
Beginning today, Samsung will begin to roll out the update region-by-region. The new software update will offer Galaxy Watch users even more tools for taking ownership over their health, more opportunities to make navigating your Galaxy Watch easier using Bixby Voice commands, and more ways to turn their favorite watch into a statement piece.

Более того, объявлено о глобальном запуске бесплатного фирменного сервиса Samsung TV Plus, открывающего доступ более чем к 70-ти популярным вещательным и сотням стриминговых каналов.
Вдобавок ко всему, Samsung получил приоритетную поддержку от наиболее влиятельных платформ потокового вещания, в том числе от новейших Apple TV+ и Disney+.
Ничего подобного платформа Android и более мелкие конкуренты предложить в обозримой перспективе не смогут.
Samsung также активно инвестирует в технологии 8K. Первые телевизоры с предустановленной TIZEN были выпущены в начале 2015 года и с тех пор неизменно получают высокие оценки за качество не только аппаратной, но и программной части. Иными словами, владельцы устройств марки Samsung могут не беспокоиться о проблемах из-за возможной несовместимости программно-аппаратных платформ, поскольку производитель позаботился об их полной адаптации благодаря внедрению единого протокола обмена данными.

Samsung's TIZEN OS now open to third-party Smart TV manufacturers, offers multiple options not present in Android TV

Samsung has always invested in developing its own operating system for its Smart TV lineup. Samsung believes in the potential of TIZEN, a lightweight operating system platform designed, developed and optimized for electronics with limited hardware capabilities.
Now the Samsung’s TIZEN-based Smart TV OS is available to other OEM Smart TV manufacturers. This means OEMs who are interested in moving away from Android TV OS or simply want an alternative, can integrate the versatile Smart TV platform within their own TVs.
The company is offering some key features and options to developers and OEMs that Google’s Android TV OS or the Android OS ecosystem in general, may not allow.
Speaking at the Samsung Developer Conference 2019 (SDC19), DJ Koh, President, and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics, indicated the company wants to explore new ways its platforms will enable developers to introduce simpler, more powerful experiences to consumers around the world. As part of the initiative, Samsung is making TIZEN TV OS available to third-party TV makers for the first time.
The TIZEN OS is basically a Linux-based mobile operating system. It was first envisaged and conceptualized as a versatile, lightweight OS platform for ultra-light mobile and portable electronics like smartwatches and health-focused IoT devices. Given the immense potential of the TIZEN OS, Samsung began experimenting with the same for other electronics that need computing power which is not resource-intensive.
Now Samsung appears to be reattempting to increase TIZEN TV OS market penetration through third-party participation. The company has essentially opened the doors to OEM Smart TV manufacturers. These third-party TV makers can experiment with TIZEN TV OS.
The company did indicate that TIZEN OS power over 100 million Smart TVs. Moreover, the company announced several new developer tools to bring new apps to these Smart TVs. It is apparent the Smart TVs powered with TIZEN OS may not have direct and integrated access to the Google Play Android app store. However, both Android and TIZEN being Linux-based, it is quite likely that apps designed for Android TV OS will work well on Smart TVs running TIZEN OS with minimal engineering.
In order to boost the adoption of the TIZEN OS, consumers and even OEMs will require reliable access to a large repository of apps. The Android TV ecosystem already has access to the millions of apps that work well on Android. For TIZEN OS to increase adoption, Samsung is offering some impressive privileges:

* Wits platform automatically uploads a code edit to the TV, so developers can see their update almost immediately, significantly trimming development time.
* EasyST makes testing content playback much easier because developers don’t need to build their own test app to make sure their content is streaming as intended.
* TIFA (TIZEN Identifier for Advertising) gives consumers the option to limit ad tracking or opt-out of targeted advertising.

Needless to add, these are some very powerful features and privileges that significantly cut down on the app development and deployment timeframe. Moreover, the primary segment of apps for any Smart TV involves the reliable streaming of high-bitrate content.  Samsung is also investing in 8K technologies. With AI ScaleNet, Samsung claims it can stream high-quality 8K videos on networks with lower bandwidth capabilities, Combined with rapid development and investment in emerging technologies, such as IoT, AI, and 5G, Samsung hopes to offer developers, manufacturers, and consumers a stable and reliable platform for Smart TVs to enable high-quality multimedia content streaming without lag or excessive buffering.

In the past six months, the size of the Bixby developer community has doubled. And starting in 2020, the Bixby Marketplace will expand gradually, enabling developers to offer their services across more Samsung devices.
To make it easier for developers to create new experiences on its AI platform and ensure consumers have more intuitive experience, Samsung announced enhanced capabilities in the Bixby Developer Studio at SDC19.

* New Bixby Templates makes it easy for developers to create capsules using pre-existing forms so that they don’t have to start from scratch.
* Enhanced Bixby Views enable developers to build capsules with a consistent design even beyond smartphones—to televisions, tablets, smart watches and refrigerators.
* Developers can now register their capsules under Natural Language Categories. When users ask Bixby for help related to a category—such as radio, news, or navigation—Bixby suggests a capsule that can help them get what they need more quickly and easily, even without having to call out exact name of the capsule.

More consumers than ever are seeing how seamlessly connected devices and services can make everyday life easier. Developers can scale their device and service offerings through Samsung’s IoT platform, SmartThings. Already, developers and partners have brought connected experiences to more than 45 million monthly active users and thousands of compatible devices, and the platform is expected to grow further with the Work as a SmartThings Hub (WASH) program, which allows partners like network operators to embed SmartThings Hub software into their devices.
