Новое мобильное решение eID было разработано в рамках проекта OPTIMOS 2.0, цель которого – создать открытую экосистему, включающую технологии и инфраструктуру, для безопасной мобильной аутентификации. При этом всем партнёрам было важно убедиться, что его архитектура открыта для различных поставщиков услуг идентификации.
Роль BSI в проекте OPTIMOS 2.0 заключалась в стандартизации необходимых компонентов, интерфейсов и процессов, чтобы разработанная технология соответствовала высоким стандартам безопасности и была доступна как можно большему числу конечных пользователей.
Для поддержки открытой экосистемы Samsung предоставил комплект разработки программного обеспечения (SDK) для своего встроенного элемента безопасности (eSE)1. С его помощью поставщики услуг и разработчики приложений смогут создавать апплеты на основе чипсета. Samsung, BSI, Bundesdruckerei and Telekom Security Partner to Bring National ID to Your Smartphone

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 will be the first mobile device in Germany allowed to carry the mobile ID solution thanks to its secure chip

Today, Samsung Electronics, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Bundesdruckerei (bdr) and Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH announced Germany’s National electronic ID will be available on selected Samsung Galaxy smartphones when the eID solution becomes available later this year. As part of a long-term collaboration with an alliance of German government bodies to deliver upon its eGovernment initiative, Samsung partnered with the BSI, bdr and Telekom Security to develop a hardware-based security architecture that allows citizens to securely store their National ID on their smartphone as an eID. Once enrolled, their eID is transferred to a secure location on their phone.

Protecting What is Valuable to Users

Users expect their information to be protected. It is therefore essential to ensure that the eID mobile solution meets the strict security requirements of the federal government and keeps German citizens’ information safe. To do so, all four partners developed a holistic security architecture centered around the foundation of smartphone security – the hardware. Thanks to a highly secure chip built directly into the phone, information can be stored locally on the device and gives users full control over their data.
“In addition to the identity card, almost every citizen in Germany owns a smartphone. Thanks to the OPTIMOS project and in cooperation with Samsung and Deutsche Telekom Security, we now have the chance to combine the high level of trust in the physical document with the user-friendliness of the smartphone,” says Dr. Stefan Hofschen, CEO of Bundesdruckerei. “We are thus creating the basis to ensure sovereignty and trust in a world that is becoming increasingly ‘digital’ and ‘mobile’. In the future, digital sovereign identities and authorizations can be used and managed by citizens in a self-determined manner via the app provided by bdr for this purpose”.

An Open Security Platform

This new mobile eID solution was created as part of the OPTIMOS 2.0 project, whose goal is to create an open ecosystem that provides the technology and infrastructure for secure mobile authentication. As such, it was important for all partners to make sure that this new security architecture would be open to many identity service providers.
“The more we digitalize our daily lives, the more important it is to protect our digital identity. At BSI, we develop, promote and certify eID solutions and technologies designed to protect people’s digital identity. As part of the OPTIMOS 2.0 project, our role was to standardize the necessary components, interfaces and processes so that the technology developed would meet the high security standards and be available to as many end users as possible,” said Arne Schönbohm, President of the German Federal Office for Information Security.
To achieve this goal of creating an open ecosystem, Samsung made the Software Development Kit (SDK) for its embedded Secure Element (eSE) available to third parties.1 This will enable service providers and app developers to create applets for Trusted Service Manager (TSM) that can be loaded into the secure chipset-based platform. As a result, applications and services will be able to work seamlessly with the eID program and German citizens can enjoy them with peace of mind, knowing their information will be protected.
“Together with Samsung and Bundesdruckerei, we created a comprehensive ecosystem for secure digital authentication. This uses the trusted secure elements of smartphones for storing forgery-proof identity information. Our newly developed TSM system is used for the transport of the identities, data storage management and ultimately lifecycle management of each eID, which provides the basis for a multitude of other secure applications,” says Thomas Fetten, CEO of Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH.

The Galaxy S20 Will Be the First Device to Comply With the New Security Requirements

The Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup, including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, will be the first smartphone to comply with the BSI’s eID security framework for sovereign use.2 Thanks to the security embedded in Samsung’s Galaxy S20, the eID solution offers a “Substantial” level of assurance for secure and seamless electronic interactions under the EU eIDAS Regulation.3 This regulation was designed to ensure EU citizens can use their national eID across borders and helps prevent misuse or alteration of their government-issued IDs.
The Galaxy S20 lineup offers the highest level of encryption available, as illustrated by the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+4 it recently received. It is the latest Samsung device to feature Samsung’s industry-leading embedded Secure Element (eSE) with other Samsung smartphones to follow. The eSE securely stores sensitive data on the device like credit card information, documents and keys and isolates them for maximum protection. Acting as a safe, a separate secure processor provides an extra layer of security designed to defend against hardware attacks and makes it difficult to access and copy information stored on the device.

What’s Next For Mobile eID?

This is only the beginning. Similar to contactless payments a few years ago, consumers will quickly realize the benefits of having key credentials including their driver’s license, national health insurance cards, or even their car and apartment keys available on their mobile phone, securely stored at all times. Soon, they may also be able to remotely verify their identity to access and send confidential medical records, open a bank account, or vote using their smartphone.

How Can I Enroll?5

The eID app will be available to German citizens using Samsung’s Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra later this year. After downloading and installing the Mobile ID application distributed by Bundesdruckerei from Play Store, Galaxy S20 owners can tap their Near Field Communications (NFC) enabled National ID card on the back of their phone to verify their identity and get started. Once verified, the mobile eID will be stored securely on the smartphone and can be used to open a bank account, use eGovernment services and more.6

Fine-tuned vibrations complement the S20’s powerful camera when pressing to take a picture, zooming in and out, and adjusting the Pro mode controls, such as the shutter speed and aperture. That same satisfying haptic sensation has been applied to many other features throughout the Galaxy S20.

When quickly flipping through the Contact list to search for “Mom,” for example, a vertical index appears on the right side. When scrolling through the index, you will get enhanced haptic feedback that signifies moving from one letter to the next in the index. Not only does it make it easier to find “M” in the index, it reduces the potential of skipping past your destination when scrolling. So, you get more precision when looking up friends, family, or business contacts. Toggle switches also have a gratifying new haptic design that mimics a light switch, so you will really feel like you are switching features on and off. The keyboard has also received significant improvements in haptic feedback.

When typing, more precise and refined feedback allows for a better overall experience. The haptic feedback also varies by input, providing distinct vibrations for regular keys, feature keys, and delete keys. There are also noticeable differences in feedback when holding down the backspace button to delete characters and when moving the cursor where you will find concise, tactile sensations.

Sound for a New Experience

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but songs and sounds can form lasting memories. Samsung took that lesson to heart by designing a satisfying auditory experience for the Galaxy S20. This year’s Over the Horizon song, for example, was built around the theme of ‘Digital Wellbeing’. The iconic ringtone features 26 monochords to deliver a soothing sonic experience powered by nature, reminding listeners to indulge in the delights of life offline.

There are four sound themes to choose from on the Galaxy S20, including Galaxy, Calm, Retro, and Fun. Each theme applies to the ringtones, notifications, and system sounds.

The Galaxy theme applies the classic Samsung sounds, including Over the Horizon. Tranquility and acceptance are at the heart of the Calm theme, which leaned on the atmosphere of a coffee house or beach for inspiration. Samsung styled the Retro theme after the iconic sounds of the ‘80s, including the video games and pop music of the era. Finally, the Fun theme embraces silliness and optimism, drawing inspiration from upbeat pop hits for a more light-hearted sonic experience.

В тот же день Samsung начал принимать предварительные заказы на лимитированную делюкс-версию Thom Browne Z Flip, которая была распродана за рекордные 3 минуты. Подарочный набор девасйов Samsung под маркой Thom Browne будет выпущен в середине марта.

Samsung’s Z Flip sells out in 9 minutes in China despite slow market

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z Flip sold out in nine minutes in China on Thursday, despite dampened consumer sentiment worldwide due to the coronavirus outbreak. 
According to the Chinese electronics industry on Friday, Samsung began online sales of the Z Flip across China at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and the clamshell-type foldable phone sold out in less than 10 minutes. Delivery will begin immediately.
On the same day, Samsung began to take preorders for the Z Flip’s limited Thom Browne edition, which hit maximum capacity in three minutes. The Thom Browne edition will be delivered in mid-March. 
As per custom, Samsung did not disclose the exact number of devices sold in China so far. 
The company introduced its flagship Galaxy S20 series via an online presentation on Thursday night, saying the S20 will go on sale in China from March.
Industry watchers are paying attention to whether Samsung’s conventional lineup will fare as well as its foldable phones, as S20 sales in Korea had been downbeat on its first day of sales here Thursday.
Samsung sold an estimated 70,800 units of the S20 in Korea on Thursday, compared with 140,000 units of the S10 series sold on its first day of sales. The corresponding figure for the Galaxy Note 10 smartphones was 220,000 units. 
A Korean telecom company official reportedly said S20 sales were negatively affected by the reduced number of consumers visiting offline stores due to coronavirus fears.

Secure Element на базе чипа S3K250AF сочетает в себе микроконтроллер, улучшенную защиту на аппаратном уровне и оптимизированную ОС. Благодаря оборудованию с сертификацией высочайшего уровня для мобильных компонентов CC EAL 5+, а также специализированному программному обеспечению, решение гарантирует безопасность мобильных устройств. Современные смартфоны или планшеты уже обладают надёжной защитой от возможного взлома, но специальный чип привносит дополнительную безопасность устройству от потенциальных атак, например, лазерных, реверс-инжиниринга или сбоев питания. Samsung’s new Secure Element solution features secure key storage with CC EAL 5+ certification and dedicated security software for enhanced data protection

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced a Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 5+ certified Secure Element (SE) turnkey solution for mobile devices. The new SE offers a strong security solution, consisting of a security chip (S3K250AF) and optimized software, that fully guards private data on an isolated data storage.
“Strong security measures have become a crucial feature in today’s smart devices as they evolve into essential tools that hold the key to our personal data connected to various services such as the cloud and financial transactions,” said Dongho Shin, senior vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung has a long and proven history in security solutions such as smart card ICs, IoT processors and other semiconductor products that require robust security. Our new turnkey SE solution for mobile devices will not only keep user data safer on the go but also enable new mobile applications that will broaden and enrich our everyday lives.”
From checking emails and making online payments to replacing house keys and airplane tickets, smart devices continue to offer more applications that enforce stronger security requirements. Samsung’s new turnkey solution is a dedicated tamper-resistant strongbox that securely stores users’ confidential and cryptographic data such as pin numbers, passwords and even crypto-currency credentials separate from the typical mobile memory such as embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS).
The S3K250AF-based SE combines a microcontroller, advanced hardware-level protection and an optimized secure OS. With a CC EAL 5+ certified-hardware, the highest level received by a mobile component, and dedicated protection software, the solution ensures top-notch security assurance on mobile devices. While current smartphones or tablets already have strong security in place to fend off possible tampering, the security-dedicated chip adds extra countermeasures to defend against possible attacks such as reverse engineering, power glitches and laser attacks, making it extremely harder for others to access or copy stored confidential data. In addition, the SE solution manages failed attempts and prevents replay attacks by accepting only the latest authentication request as a valid one.
Samsung’s new SE solution is currently in mass production and is featured in Samsung’s recently-announced Galaxy S20 series smartphones.
