Samsung Electronics подал заявку на новый товарный знак под названием Samsung Blade.

В частности, под этим наименованием могут выпускаться новые дисплеи для смартфонов. Эксперты прогнозируют, что одной из первых новинок с таким экраном станет премиальная серия коммуникаторов Galaxy S21. Ранее отраслевые инсайдеры сообщили, что новый аппарат может получить "гластиковый" корпус, за счёт чего удастся снизить ценник на эти смартфоны. Напомним, что "гластик" - это материал, разработанный Samsung с целью создания альтернативы дорогим моделям с хрупким остеклённым корпусом. "Гластик" вобрал в себя преимущества совершенно разных материалов - стекла (Glass) и пластика (Plastic). От комбинации этих английских слов и происходит термин "Glastic". Он придаёт смартфону премиальный вид за счёт способности гластика быть внешне похожим на стекло, обладая при этом повышенной ударопрочностью.   

Что касается дисплеев предполагаемой серии Blade, то им прочат улучшенные характеристики и почти полное отсутствие чёрных полей по краям, что позволит придать смартфонам свежий дизайн в стиле премиальных "безрамочных" телевизоров Samsung. Также некоторые отраслевые источники утверждают, что флагманская серия Galaxy S может быть понижена в статусе, а звание "премиальный" получат ультрасовременные гаджеты серии Galxy Fold со сгибающимися экранами. 

Samsung Galaxy S21 introduces Blade display

LetsGoDigital spotted the trademark that Samsung has applied for, which is described as "flat panel display screens; displays for smart phones; OLED (Organic light emitting diode) display panels; touch screens."

It's speculated that the base S21 model and the S21+ will sport the new flat panel and straight edge aesthetic, while the S21 Ultra will stick with the edge display.

Coupled with the Blade bezel, which may have some practical functionality in terms of creating a "speaker resonance chamber" – or a BoomBox essentially, like the LG G7 ThinQ – the revamp will be a huge departure from Samsung's usual curvy smartphones.

The new design could well support the theory of a new direction for the S series, that has been a flagship for the brand so far, but may give way to the Galaxy Z Fold series next year.

If anything, it will help draw a line between the series' past and its future, whether that's a cheaper, less premium offering, or a hybrid device bringing together the key features of the S and Note ranges. 

The smartphone is reportedly making its debut as early as January, so we'll no doubt see more of it in the coming months.

Samsung launches new Galaxy Fit2 in South Korea, Russia, UK, Germany and other countries

Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy Fit 2 last month alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Now, the tech giant has announced that it will launch its new fitness tracker in some countries this week. The Galaxy Fit 2 is priced around $43.

The Galaxy Fit 2 available in Korea through Samsung Digital Plaza, Samsung’s online store, 11Street, Coupang, G Market, and Naver. Samsung’s latest affordable fitness tracker will be available in two colors: Black and Scarlet.

Samsung’s new fitness tracker features a slim and lightweight design. It features IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and it comes equipped with an accelerometer, gyro, and a heart rate sensor. It can automatically record five types of workouts, including walking, running, and rowing. It can also track sleep, stress, and over 90 types of workouts. It is compatible with both Android and iOS.

The Galaxy Fit 2 sports a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 3D glass protection. The screen can show over 70 types of clock faces and notifications from the connected smartphone. The South Korean firm has also implemented a feature that periodically reminds you to wash your hands. It can last up to 21 days on a single charge*.

Availability

The Galaxy Z Fold2 will be available in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze, in around 40 markets including the U.S. and Korea, on September 18, 2020, with pre-orders from September 1, 2020 starting with select markets including the U.S. and Europe. Customized options will be available for users on Samsung.com in select markets24 with four distinct colors for the hinge: Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red and Metallic Blue.

1-го июля Samsung выпустил стерилизатор для смартфонов, смарт-часов и наушников в виде компактного кофра со встроенным ульрафиолетовым (UV) излучателем и беспроводной зарядкой. Новое устройство от южнокорейского техногиганта получило название Samsung UV Sterilizer.

Пандемия COVID-19 заставила многих людей пересмотреть привычки и гигиенические правила. Дезинфицирующие средства стали для многих постоянными спутниками, однако их сложно использовать для обеззараживания техники, например, смартфонов, часов и наушников. В таком случае как раз очень пригодится UV-стерилизатор Samsung, который пока доступен только в Таиланде.

Внешне это устройство выглядит как белая пластиковая коробка с крышкой, в которую можно поместить смартфон (даже весьма крупный, как Galaxy S20 Ultra), смарт-часы, беспроводные наушники или другие носимые гаджеты. Стерилизатор может не только дезинфицировать эти устройства, но и заряжать беспроводные девайсы (10 Вт), которые совместимы с технологиями беспроводной зарядки от Samsung.

Чтобы использовать UV-стерилизатор, достаточно просто положить нужный предмет внутрь, закрыть крышку и нажать кнопку. Внешний светодиодный индикатор показывает статус работы и сообщает о завершении дезинфекции. По словам разработчиков, используемое ультрафиолетовое излучение позволяет уничтожить до 99% микроорганизмов на всех поверхностях обеззараживаемых предметов, в том числе на тех, что соприкасаются с коробкой. Как известно, коронавирус COVID-19, вызвавший глобальную пандемию, погибает при достаточно длительном облучении ультрафиолетом. Как раз за время зарядки смарт-устройств этот возбудитель тяжёлых лёгочных заболеваний может быть нейтрализован. 

Стоит отметить, что это уже не первое устройство Samsung с возможностью UV-дезинфекции. Что касается новой потребительской версии Samsung UV Sterilizer, то его стоимость в Таиланде составляет около 50 долларов США. Это весьма доступная цена, учитывая, какую пользу приносит этот девайс. Тем не менее, пока неизвестно, планируются ли продажи стерилизаторов Samsung в других странах.

Samsung launches a UV sterilizer for phones and other gadgets

The COVID-19 pandemic has made many people more aware of their own hygiene habits. We’re washing our hands after bringing in packages, wiping down our groceries, and using hand sanitizer after touching doorknobs. Gadgets like smartphones and earbuds can be covered in nasty stuff too, which is why Samsung is launching a UV sterilizer to clean them.

Samsung announced the aptly named “UV Sterilizer” in Thailand. It looks like a white plastic box with a lid and it can hold a smartphone (it’s big enough for the Galaxy S20 Ultra), watch, wireless earbuds, or anything else you can fit inside. The box can wirelessly charge (10W) compatible gadgets while they are being sanitized as well.

To use the UV Sterilizer, simply put something inside, close the lid, and press the button. There’s an LED indicator light to show when it’s working and when the sanitizing process is complete. It uses UV-C light to kill up to 99% of germs and bacteria on both sides of whatever is placed inside.

This isn’t Samsung’s first venture with UV sterilization. You may remember back in March when the pandemic was first declared, Samsung began offering a sanitizing service for Galaxy devices in select regions. In a related hygiene initiative, Samsung released a handwashing app for Galaxy watches. So it’s not surprising to see the company launch its own UV sterilizer for gadgets.

Samsung is selling the UV Sterilizer for 1,590 baht (~$50) in Thailand. We’re not sure if they plan on bringing it to more countries, but it could be something that people would be interested in buying.

Samsung официально представил серию потребительских твердотельных накопителей 870 QVO SSD. Её модельный ряд включает устройства для хранения данных объёмом 1, 2, 4 и 8 Тб. По сравнению с моделями серии 860 QVO в новых накопителях производитель обещает прировст производительности в 13% на уровне произвольного чтения и записи.
Серия Samsung  870 QVO SSD выполнена в 2,5-дюймовом форм-факторе и использует для подключения интерфейс SATA 3.0 с пропускной способностью до 6 Гбит/с. Устройства подходят для применения в настольных и портативных компьютерах.
В основе новинок используются микроконтролллеры Samsung MKX, а также микрочипы флэш-памяти 3D V-NAND, изготовленные по технологии QLC (Quad Level Cell), которая предусматривает хранение 4-х бит информации в одной ячейке. Кроме того, у новых накопителей предусмотрено наличие 1, 2, 4 и 8Гб скоростного кэша в виде микросхем стандарта LPDDR4.
Заявленная производителем максимальная скорость чтения и записи для серии SSD-накопителей 870 QVO составляет 560 и 530 Мбайт/с соответственно. Показатели производительности на уровне произвольного чтения и записи могут достигать 98 и 88 тысяч IOPS соответственно.
Samsung также указал приблизительный ресурс накопителей. Для модели объёмом 1Тб он составляет 360 Тб перезаписанной информации, для модели ёмкостью 2 Тб это значение равно 720 Тб, для модели объёмом 4 Тб общий объём перезаписанной информации может составить 1440Тб, а для самой старшей модели на 8Тб Samsung заявляет объём перезаписи в 2880Тб.
Модели твердотельных накопителей Samsung 870 QVO SSD объёмом 1, 2 и 4 Тб уже поступили в продажу. Южнокорейский техногигант оценивает их в 130, 250 и 500 долларов США соответственно. Версия на 8Тб появится в августе. Samsung пока не указывает цену на эту версию, но вполне понятно, что она будет весьма внушительной. На все предлагаемые модели даётся 3-летняя гарантия.
