Samsung Electronics представляет обновление ПО(1) для смартфона с гибким экраном первого поколения Galaxy Fold, которое обеспечивает доступ к функциям Galaxy Z Fold2 для продуктивности, а также новые возможности камеры.

Последнее обновление поможет быстрее справляться с делами на Galaxy Fold – функция App Pair позволяет запускать сразу до 3-х наиболее часто используемых сервисов, каждый из которых будет занимать своё, заранее предопределённое место на экране.

Функция доступна через боковую панель Edge Panel, которая для большего удобства совмещена с панелью Multi-Window Tray – свайп от границы экрана к центру(2) открывает до 22 избранных приложений. Кроме того, дисплей можно настроить для работы с Multi-Active Window в горизонтальном расположении, что даёт ещё больше гибкости и новые способы для работы в режиме многозадачности.

Если для работы требуется увеличенное экранное пространство, обновлённая функция Samsung DeX позволяет с лёгкостью подключить Galaxy Fold к смарт-ТВ по беспроводной сети(3). Всё что для этого нужно, - кликнуть по значку Samsung DeX на панели быстрого доступа.

После соединения 2-х устройств пользователь может настроить второй экран в соответствии со своими потребностями, выбрав нужное масштабирование и размера шрифта, или использовать Galaxy Fold в качестве сенсорной панели для управления вторым дисплеем с поддержкой multi-touch жестов.

Максимальная гибкость при работе с камерой

Новейшее обновление делает работу с камерой Galaxy Fold ещё более гибкой.

Функция автоматического кадрирования (Auto framing) как настоящий оператор автоматически увеличивает или уменьшает кадр в зависимости от того, сколько людей находится перед камерой, чтобы камера Galaxy Fold захватила всё необходимое. Смартфон может отслеживать движение, чтобы удерживать объект съёмки в центре кадра.

Режим просмотра Capture View Mode даёт возможность просматривать отснятые фотографии непосредственно во время съёмки. Он показывает до 5-ти последних фотографий или видео в левой части основного экрана, при этом на другой половине можно видеть предварительный просмотр следующего снимка.

Функция Dual Preview помогает улучшить взаимодействие между моделью и фотографом, дублируя изображение с камеры на основном и на внешнем экранах Galaxy Fold. Эта функция работает также и при видеосъёмке и может быть активирована в режиме Pro Video.

Once the two devices are connected, you can customize the second screen to suit your needs with screen zoom and various font size options. You can even use the Galaxy Fold as a touch pad to control the second display with multi-finger gestures.

The Galaxy Fold’s unique form factor is designed to help you capture photos and videos exactly the way you want. The latest update brings even more flexibility to this innovative camera experience.

Shooting with Auto framing is like having a dedicated cameraman always by your side. Depending on how many people are in front of the camera, the feature automatically zooms in or out to ensure the Galaxy Fold captures everything. It can even track motion to keep the subject centrally framed.

Capture View Mode gives you the option to check your shots as you shoot. It shows you up to five of the latest photos or videos on the left side of the Main Screen, while giving you a preview of your next shot on the other half.

Dual Preview enhances collaboration between the subject and the photographer by showing a preview of the image on both the Cover and Main Screen of the Galaxy Fold. This feature also works with video and can be activated in Pro Video mode.

The latest update lets you maximize the power of the Galaxy Fold’s rear camera, even when you are taking selfies. Simply open the Camera app on the Cover Screen and activate Rear Cam Selfie. This feature allows you to use the high-resolution rear camera and its wide range of advanced functions for selfies.

Pro Video Mode on the Galaxy Fold now comes with more shooting (21:9 ratio and 24fps video) and assistant functions (histogram, focus peaking), while Single Take lets you capture up to 15 seconds of content to deliver a selection of best moments in photos and video.

Stay Seamlessly Connected

Samsung Electronics named top brand in Asia for 9th year

South Korean tech behemoth Samsung Electronics Co. has been named Asia's most popular brand for the ninth consecutive year thanks to its investment in innovation, a report showed Friday.
Samsung, the world's leading smartphone maker, beat other multinationals to retain the No. 1 spot among Asia's top 1,000 brands, according to the report by Campaign Asia-Pacific and Nielsen.
U.S. tech juggernaut Apple Inc. came next, trailed by Panasonic Corp. of Japan, LG Electronics Inc. of South Korea and Switzerland-based food and drink conglomerate Nestle Co.
Samsung has been atop the brand popularity chart since 2012, while South Korean electronics giant LG's ranking is up two spots from 2019. Japan-based Sony Corp., which ranked fourth last year, placed sixth this year.
Samsung, also the No. 1 memory chipmaker in the world, claimed the top spots in five major categories, such as the most powerful brand, mobile phones and smart home technology.
Campaign Asia-Pacific said Samsung has been picked as the leading brand in Asia for its sustained investment in innovative technologies, including foldable smartphones.
Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, last year and unveiled its second foldable handset, the Galaxy Z Flip in February this year.
The report was based on an annual survey of 8,400 consumers in 14 key regional markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

Samsung integrates blockchain wallet with Gemini exchange

Samsung, the South Korean smartphone giant that has been experimenting with bitcoin for some time, is doubling down on cryptocurrency.
Samsung's Blockchain Wallet will add support for users of U.S. bitcoin and crypto exchange Gemini in North America, it has been revealed.
Users of Samsung's crypto wallet, which allows self custody of bitcoin and crypto directly on newer Samsung Galaxy models, will be able to buy and sell bitcoin and a small selection of other cryptocurrencies via the Gemini exchange.
They will also be able to view Gemini account balances and transfer their bitcoin and crypto into a higher security cold storage account.
"Crypto is not just a technology, it is a movement," said Gemini chief executive Tyler Winklevoss, who, along with his twin brother, has campaigned for Wall Street adoption of bitcoin and crypto.
"We are proud to be working with Samsung to bring crypto’s promise of greater choice, independence, and opportunity to more individuals around the world."
Samsung has become an early leader in smartphone bitcoin and cryptocurrency support after introducing the Blockchain Keystore last year—a move that could boost ailing bitcoin and crypto adoption.
Many in the bitcoin and cryptocurrency community see stalled user adoption as one of the biggest hurdles the nascent technology is currently facing.
Clunkey exchanges and clumsy customer support are common complaints made against bitcoin and crypto services, with many potential users lacking the required technology confidence to buy and store cryptocurrencies themselves.
"For millions of Samsung users across the U.S. and Canada, being able to store crypto directly on their phones lowers another barrier to entry," said Jeanine Hightower-Sellitto, managing director of operations at Gemini.
The partnership comes as bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchanges around the world see user registrations and trading volumes soar amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"Customer demand for regulated crypto products has remained strong across the investing spectrum, from retail to institutional investors, throughout the pandemic and we expect that demand to continue to grow," Hightower-Sellitto added.

Samsung is ready to ‘fold more’: president

Tech firm goes beyond technological leap, focuses on value consumers get from folding experience

For Samsung Electronics, which already offers two foldable smartphone models, it is no longer a challenge to make a phone that folds even more. 
The South Korean tech titan, rather, is mulling how the folding experience brings value to consumers, said Roh Tae-moon, president and head of Samsung’s mobile division, during a press conference in San Francisco on Tuesday. 
“Technologically, we are capable of designing phones that fold even more times, but what’s more important than the folding technology itself is the kind of value to be offered for consumers,” Roh said. 
The president stressed how long the company worked to develop the Galaxy Fold - six or seven years. The Galaxy Z Flip took nearly three years to commercialize. 
“It’s also important to have an ecosystem for sufficient content and services before releasing more foldable variants,” he said. “We can release new foldable phones at an opportune time when there are enough services available on those phones and provide needed values for consumers.”
The new head of Samsung’s smartphone division took up the post three weeks ago. Roh is known for his technological leadership, having spearheaded the Galaxy S series 10 years ago. 
According to Roh, Samsung recently set a clear direction for its foldable lineup. 
With the Galaxy Z series - starting with the Galaxy Z Flip, which fits into the palm of one’s hand when folded - Samsung will focus on improving portability and convenience. 
And with the Galaxy Fold, the company’s very first gadget to unfold into something resembling a tablet computer, Samsung will continue to develop the unfolding mechanism for bigger screens.
“I envision a future of foldable devices in which people will easily carry around large-size screens in accordance with their needs and the screens are folded (no matter how many times) in any sizes that they want,” he said. 
Regarding this year’s sales targets for the two Samsung foldable phones, Roh offered a conservative answer. 
“The foldable phone market is yet in infancy,” the president said. “Initial supply of Galaxy Z Flip will be limited both in terms of volume and region. We forecast the market to get popularity starting in the second half of the year.”

Samsung to expand Galaxy Fold sales to 60 countries

Samsung Electronics will expand the number of countries selling its Galaxy Fold smartphone to 60, because demand for the new type of device has exceeded expectations, a company official said Sunday.
The company will add more than 30 markets from December to February 2020 and expects sales volume to exceed 500,000.
"We have been asked by mobile carriers and users in countries where we didn't launch the Galaxy Fold to release the device, because the foldable phone has been drawing a lot of attention," the official said.
The official added that new markets would include Vietnam, Brazil, New Zealand, Chile, Italy, the Netherlands and Greece.
Since rolling out the phones in Korea in September, Samsung has gradually expanded the number of countries where the Galaxy Fold is available. It is now sold in 29 countries including Korea, the United States, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
Samsung mobile business president Koh Dong-jin previously said the Galaxy Fold would be available in about 20 countries in limited quantities, so the decision to expand the number of markets shows the positive response from consumers worldwide.
Despite the high price of 2.39 million won ($2,022), the devices sold out in few minutes. The phone has drawn the attention of early users in many countries. In China, the phones sold out in just two seconds when launched there in November.
Spurred on by the huge response, Samsung plans to expand the foldable phone range in 2020.
The company is expected to release a clamshell-style model, which will fold vertically, at the Mobile World Congress tech fair in Barcelona in February and a successor to the Galaxy Fold in the second half of 2020.
Samsung released teaser details of the clamshell-style foldable device in October, saying the model would be thinner and more compact than the Galaxy Fold, fitting easily into pockets. The company also may release a foldable smartphone that features its signature S Pen stylus, which comes with Galaxy Note smartphones.

Setting Up PlayGalaxy Link

The PlayGalaxy Link Beta has launched and is now available in South Korea, US, UK, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Singapore, and Russia. In addition to the Galaxy Note10, Galaxy S10 owners can now download the MR software update to access PlayGalaxy Link. The update will be coming to the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note9, and Galaxy A90 in early December 2019.

Samsung sells out the Galaxy Fold in China in under 5 minutes

Samsung relaunched the Galaxy Fold and by the looks of it, the second time is the charm. The foldable device is selling in various markets, and today it finally arrived in China. According to the company’s account on Weibo, all units of the CNY15,999-priced phone ($2,300) sold out in five minutes.
The Korean manufacturer does not say how many phones were actually available for purchase. Nevertheless, some people actually paid the equivalent of $2,288/€2,000 and got a device with a 7.3” foldable Dynamic AMOLED screen and Snapdragon 855 chipset.
The phone has only one memory option - 12 GB RAM + 512 gigs of storage. There are three cameras on the back, two on the front/inside and another one above the smaller AMOLED panel that sits on the outside of the Fold. Samsung sold out the phone with model number SM-F9000 that has a big 4,380 mAh battery but lacks 5G. A date for the arrival of the next batch is yet to be set.

Samsung to ramp up foldable smartphone production in 2020

Samsung Electronics plans to increase the production of foldable smartphones next year following the positive market response for Galaxy Fold, according to a top executive.
“We will significantly increase the sales of foldable smartphones next year,” Koh Dong-jin Koh, CEO of the mobile business unit, told reporters at the company’s two-day annual artificial intelligence forum on Nov. 5. “We are confident that consumers will see more foldable smartphones next year.”
Regarding the next-generation foldable smartphone, Koh said the company will make an announcement on the launch schedule when the timing is right.
The South Korean tech giant unveiled a rendering image of a clamshell-like foldable smartphone that folds in from top to bottom at its annual developer conference late last month. 
It is rumored that the company has set a sales target of 6 million foldable smartphones next year. Although its sales of the first version of foldable phone released recently have fallen short of the initial target of 1 million, the device is considered to have paved the way for a new smartphone form factor.
The Galaxy Fold is scheduled to hit shelves in China on Nov. 8, stepping up competition with Huawei Technologies, which will launch its own foldable smartphone Mate X on Nov. 15.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Fold in China

Samsung Electronics unveiled its Galaxy Fold at an industry fair in China on Nov. 6, ahead of its official launch later this week. 
The Korean tech giant displayed three foldable devices at China International Import Expo held in Shanghai as it is taking preorders for Galaxy Fold from Chinese consumers.
Samsung’s $2,000 foldable device will be competing with Chinese rival Huawei Technologies’ Mate X, which will go on sale on Nov. 15 with a price tag of $2,400. 
Rather than Fold’s in-folding design to reveal a larger screen on the inside, the Mate X has an out-folding display that’s accessible even when the phone is closed.
Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker, has struggled in China in recent years in the face of toughening competition with Chinese brands and is seeking to expand its presence with the premium models.
The tech giant saw its share in China’s smartphone market fall back below 1 percent in the second quarter, retreating from 4.9 percent in 2016 and 2.1 percent in 2017, according to data from market researcher Strategy Analytics.
At the same time, China continues to be the largest market for Samsung, since all the leading manufacturers of mobile equipment buy key components from the South Korean leader of the electronics industry.

В сложенном состоянии смартфон можно использовать в компактном размере с 4,6-дюймовым, а в раскрытом виде он имеет 7,3-дюймовый гибкий дисплей, самый большой в семействе смартфонов Galaxy за всю историю.
Samsung рассчитывает реализовать порядка 6 миллионов сгибающихся смартфонов Galaxy Fold в 2020 году, отмечает портал ETNews. По данным этого электронного издания, в нынешнем году южнокорейский гигант планирует продать около 500.000 экземпляров Galaxy Fold. Корпорация уже начала инспекцию своих производственных мощностей, чтобы понять, сможет ли она обеспечить выпуск необходимого количества трубок и определиться в отношении  дополнительных инвестиций, если потребуется нарастить выпуск складных девайсов.
Samsung намеревался начать продажи Galaxy Fold в апреле 2019 года, но из-за обнаруженных недочётов в устройстве его релиз был отложен. Производитель доработал телефон: защитный слой дисплея Infinity Flex увеличен, под экраном появились дополнительные слои металла, верхняя часть шарниров укреплена новыми защитными крышками, а зазор между шарниром и корпусом уменьшен.
Продажи Galaxy Fold стартовали в сентябре 2019 года. Смартфон выйдет на российский рынок 25 октября. Стоимость аппарата на местном рынке составляет около 160.000 рублей.
Samsung начал собирать предзаказы в России на покупку новинки 4 октября. За 4 дня вся первая партия гибких смартфонов была распродана.
По прогнозам исследовательской компании Strategy Analytics, на продукты со сгибающимися экранами придётся менее 0,1% глобального рынка смартфонов в 2019 году, а к 2024-му показатель превысит 3%.
«У производителей смартфонов нет иного выбора, кроме как изменить форм-фактор, чтобы обеспечить прибыльность, поскольку спрос на премиальные смартфоны продолжает падать», - сказал высокопоставленный чиновник, представляющий индустрию мобильных сетей в интервью ETNews. «Может потребоваться некоторое время, чтобы создать положительные примеры применения складного смартфона и повысить его конкурентоспособность». 

Samsung Looking into Selling 6 Million Foldable Smartphones in 2020

Due to popularity of ‘Galaxy Fold’, Samsung Electronics is planning to increase the output of foldable Smartphones in 2020 by at more than ten times compared to the output of foldable Smartphones in 2019. It is heard that Samsung set a goal for next year, which is to sell 6 million foldable Smartphones at the maximum, and is currently looking into whether its goal is realistic. Considering the fact that the sales volume of Galaxy Fold in 2019 is around 500,000 units, Samsung Electronics is planning to increase the sales volume by more than ten times in just a year. This indicates that Samsung’s confidence in the success of foldable Smartphone has grown.
According to the industry, Samsung Electronics’ Wireless Business Department is currently looking into supply and demand with Samsung Display in order to increase the output of foldable Smartphones in 2020 up to 6 million units. Samsung Display is currently checking its production capacity and production yield to see whether it can keep in pace with this goal.
Samsung’s goal is a very aggressive number that exceeds the initial estimate from the market. Market research company called IHS Market estimated that there will be about 3 million foldable Smartphones in 2020 while DSCC is estimating that the number will be between 4 million and 5 million. Both of them predict that most of these foldable Smartphones will be from Samsung Electronics.
Annual sales volume of Galaxy Note, which is the highest model of Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy series, exceeds 10 million units. If foldable Smartphone establishes itself as a premium Smartphone along with Galaxy Note, it can become a new product line that can increase the profit rate of Samsung Electronics. The industry estimates that there will be about 10 million foldable Smartphones in 2021.
According to representatives from the industry, Samsung was initially looking into increasing the output of foldable Smartphones up to 10 million units. Its confidence in the potential of foldable Smartphone has grown as it has received many positive reviews for Galaxy Fold when it only produced Galaxy Fold in small quantity in order to examine responses from consumers towards foldable Smartphone that was unfamiliar to them. Fact that there are positive views towards foldable devices overall has also contributed to popularity of Galaxy Fold.
In order to increase the output of foldable Smartphones, Samsung needs to make additional investments into facilities and equipment in Vietnam. It also needs to increase the production capacity of major materials and components such as transparent PI (Polyimide) and UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass). Because there is a possibility that current supply and demand for UTG especially may be insufficient, industries are interested on whether Samsung will make additional investments.
How many models of new foldable Smartphones Samsung will introduce next year is important. If it continues to carry out marketing for Galaxy Fold, there is a chance that the release date of clamshell design-based Smartphone, which is its next foldable Smartphone model, may be delayed to early 2020 or the middle of 2020. If the release date of clamshell design-based Smartphone is delayed, there is a chance that the release date of another new model, which is expected to be released during the second half of 2020, may get pushed back to the end of 2020 or 2021. Entire shipments is proportional to number of new models.
“Although the yield of foldable panels is lower than that of OLEDs, there is not any huge issue technologically as Samsung Display is able to handle tens of millions of units annually.” said a representative for the industry. “However, it is a bit early to predict demands for foldable Smartphones in 2020 due to insufficient supply of Galaxy Fold within the market.”
Mobile network businesses are still being cautious about recent popularity of Galaxy Fold because they believe that the popularity comes from limited supply and that consumers are just ‘curious’ about a new form factor.
As a result, many predict that it will not be easy for Galaxy Fold to establish itself despite mass-production if Samsung Electronics does not secure differentiated usability, competitive price, and stability. Distribution network is also concerned that the process of securing inventories of expensive foldable Smartphones may have a negative impact on liquidity.
“Smartphone manufacturers have no choice but to change form factor in order to secure profitability as demands for premium Smartphones continue to drop.” said a high-ranking official of a mobile network business. “It may take a while to build up positive cases of applications of a foldable Smartphone and to improve its marketability.”
