Из-за этого они соглашаются на глупые требования крупных акционеров, мало что понимающих в IT-бизнесе. В результате одно непродуманное действие следует за другим. Samsung демонстрирует безграничную лояльность к "стратегическому партнёру" Google, открывая для него всё "новые горизонты" за счёт сокращения собственных сервисов в мобильных устройствах, а также проявляет "глубокое понимание" чаяний властей в странах с авторитарными режимами.

Накануне российский сегмент интернета разразился негодованием и проклятьями в адрес Samsung за то, что тот "побежал впереди паровоза", досрочно выполнив требование Кремля о принудительной установке софта от местных поставщиков типа Yandex, mail.ru и Kaspersky Lab. Тревогу населения РФ можно понять: на фоне беспрецедентного ужесточения цензуры и уголовного преследования оппозиционно настроенных граждан, навязывание российского софта рассматривается ими не иначе как очередной факт проявления тотальной слежки за каждым владельцем мобильного устройства.

Чтобы выглядеть "пай-мальчиками" в глазах кремлёвского руководства, в Samsung преподнесли им "идеологический подарок", лишив владельцев устройств Galaxy возможности удалять насильно навязанный софт. Таким образом, и без того перегруженная множеством бесполезных функций Android OS с фирменной оболочкой Samsung One UI станет ещё более тяжеловесной и тормозной, требующей дополнительных вычислительных ресурсов и усиленно "сжирающая" аккумулятор.

Даже такая алчная контора как Yandex, давно пляшущая под кремлёвскую дудку, выпустила сегодня лицемерное заявление с призывом к Samsung всё-таки дать возможность пользователям смартфонов Galaxy удалять свои сервисы. Однако на это не так много надежды, поскольку российские структуры Samsung буквально наводнены сотрудниками российских спецслужб, а также их многочисленными друзьями и родственниками. Это та самая плата, которую западный бизнес должен учитывать, работая в таких странах как Россия, правящий режим которой расценивается цивилизованным миром не иначе как криминальный и террористический.

В отличие от Samsung, американская Apple добилась права добровольной установки российских сервисов на свои гаджеты, что предвещает значительный отток пользователей устройств Galaxy на конкурирующую платформу iOS. Масла в огонь также подливают распространяемые в СМИ слухи о возможном переходе смарт-часов Samsung на WearOS от всё той же "корпорации добра" Google. Огромное количество владельцев смарт-часов Samsung не хотят расставаться с давно полюбившейся TIZEN OS и заявляют, что в случае уничтожения южнокорейским производителем собственной хорошо оптимизированной программной платформы, они больше не видят смыла в покупке гаджетов Galaxy (как смарт-часов, так и смартфонов).

К сожалению, 1 апреля 2021 года, когда вступает в силу закон о принудительной установке местного софта, не станет весёлым праздником для российских пользователей, равно как и для самого Samsung, ибо за предательство интересов покупателя рано или поздно придётся расплачиваться.

The persecution of Samsung's leadership by the current leftist authorities in South Korea, which effectively decapitated the conglomerate and deprived the family of the founders of the largest chaebol, the ability to make key decisions, demoralized its top management. In an effort to avoid falling revenues amid the pandemic and continued pressure from prosecutors, the conglomerate's remaining leaders are frantically looking for ways to stay afloat.

Samsung demonstrates boundless loyalty to the "strategic partner" Google, opening up "new horizons" for it by reducing its own services in mobile devices, and also showing a "deep understanding" of the aspirations of the authorities in countries with authoritarian regimes.

The day before, the russian segment of the Internet burst out with indignation and curses against Samsung for "running faster than a horse", having fulfilled the Kremlin's demand for the forced installation of software from local suppliers such as Yandex, mail.ru and Kaspersky Lab in advance. The anxiety of the population of the Russian Federation can be understood: against the background of an unprecedented tightening of censorship and criminal prosecution of opposition-minded citizens, the imposition of russian software is viewed by them as just another fact of the manifestation of total surveillance of every owner of a mobile device.

To look like "good boys" in the eyes of the Kremlin leadership, Samsung presented them with an "ideological gift", depriving the owners of Galaxy devices of the ability to remove forcibly imposed software. Thus, the Android OS, already overloaded with many useless functions, will become even more cumbersome and braking, requiring additional computing resources and intensively "devouring" the battery.

Even a greedy company like Yandex, which has long danced to the Kremlin's tune, released a hypocritical statement today calling on Samsung to still allow Galaxy smartphone users to delete their services. However, there is not much hope for this, since the russian structures of Samsung are literally flooded with employees of the russian special services and their many friends and relatives. This is the very fee that Western business must take into account when working in countries such as Russia, whose ruling regime is regarded by the civilized world as criminal and terrorist.

Unlike Samsung, the american Apple Inc. has won the right to voluntarily install russian services on its gadgets, which heralds a significant outflow of Galaxy device users to the rival iOS platform. The rumors circulating in the media about the possible transition of Samsung smart watches to WearOS from the same "good corporation" Google also add fuel to the fire. A huge number of Samsun's smartwatch owners do not want to part with their long-loved TIZEN OS and say that if the South Korean manufacturer destroys its own well-optimized software platform, they no longer see the point in buying Galaxy gadgets. This applies to both smartwatches and smartphones.

Silicon Works Looking to Supply DDIs and Touch ICs to Samsung

Silicon Works, which is a key affiliate of LX Group that will be officially launched this May, is set to work with Samsung. The company is the biggest semiconductor design (fabless) company in South Korea and it has been growing its business by supplying semiconductors for displays to LG Display. It is an affiliate of LX Group that is led by Koo Bon-joon, who is a senior adviser to LG Group, and it is looking to expand its pool of customers before it splits off from LG Group.

It has been reported that Silicon Works plans to supply DDIs (display driver IC) for Samsung Electronics’ smartphones that are set to be released this second half.

DDI is a semiconductor that operates the display and it is a key component that controls RGB pixels. This will be the first time Silicon Works will be supplying DDIs to Samsung Electronics. Although the upcoming supply will actually be the second supply contract of DDIs between the two companies, it is reported that the first supply was not much successful due to an issue with OLED panels that were made in China.

Silicon Works is also looking to supply touch ICs that implement input signal to Samsung Display.

One official from the industry who is familiar with situations of Silicon Works and Samsung Display said on Tuesday that Samsung Display has begun looking into Silicon Works’ touch ICs and that the company is discussing with Samsung Electronics’ IT & Mobile Communications Division regarding using Silicon Works’ touch ICs.

Cooperation between Silicon Works and Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display is extremely rare as Silicon Works has been a key partner of LG Display.

Silicon Works started to form a relationship with Samsung last year. The relationship has become deeper after Silicon Works started to use Samsung’s foundry. As there was not much cooperation between Samsung and LG Group in the past, Silicon Works had been making its DDIs using other foundry companies such as SK Hynix System IC and Key Foundry.

What is more special about this relationship between Silicon Works and Samsung is that it has a great potential to become a long-term relationship as there is lack of semiconductor supply due to COVID-19. DDI prices also went up 10 to 20% in the second quarter compared to the first quarter.

OLED DDIs that are currently used for Samsung’s smartphones come from Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business and Magnachip Semiconductor. In order to stabilize supply and demand, Samsung needs additional OLED DDI supplier. Moreover, a Chinese private equity fund is pushing to acquire Magnachip Semiconductor. The relationship between Silicon Works and Samsung started as their respective interests match with each other’s interest.

With the relationship with Samsung, Silicon Works will be a rare company that has both LG and Samsung as customers. Although LG Display is also looking to diversify its DDI suppliers, it will take some time before it is able to secure a diversified pool of DDI suppliers as it highly depends on Silicon Works at the moment.

Silicon Works said that it cannot confirm any information regarding its customers when it was asked about its relationship with Samsung.

Silicon Works has become the biggest fabless company in South Korea that makes more than $880 million (1 trillion KRW) in annual sales by supplying DDIs for TVs, smartphones, and laptops through LG Display. When LG Semiconductor merged with Hyundai Electronics and became Hynix Semiconductor in 1999, few researchers went on to establish Silicon Works. Silicon Works was acquired by LG in 2014. Центральным элементом Samsung KX является видеостена Screenmax с многоуровневыми сиденьями для презентаций, панельных дискуссий, вечеров кино, игровых сессий, интерактивных мероприятий и так далее. Чтобы обеспечить кинематографический звук в ходе демонстрации любого контента, компания Snelling установила колоночные громкоговорители линейного массива JBL CBT1000 с расширениями CBT 1000E по обе стороны экрана, которые обеспечивают полный звуковой диапазон с локальным покрытием. Harman systems enhance Samsung KX experience space

A Harman* Professional networked AV, lighting and control system providing by Snelling Business Systems and Cosmic Electronics enhances the showcase at the Samsung KX experience space

Situated in the recently developed Coal Drops Yard shopping district in King’s Cross, London, Samsung KX is a destination for the public to experience Samsung’s range of innovative connected technologies working seamlessly together. The 20,000 sq ft features a 32-foot Screenmax LED display wall, connected “smart kitchen,” immersive AR experiences and an ever-changing list of temporary installations.

To complement the next-generation technology on display at Samsung KX, Snelling Business Systems and Cosmic Electronics recently outfitted the venue with a complete Harman networked AV, lighting and control system.

“In terms of design, we didn’t approach Samsung KX like any other traditional shop,” said Tanya Weller, director at Samsung Showcase. “It was very much about creating an incredible space to bring the latest innovations to life and showcase our products working seamlessly together, but also a flexible environment that we could invite the community into for various events and experiences. The beauty of it is that it’s incredibly adaptable. If we’ve got an event in one zone, we can ensure the sound is great in that area, or we can have total takeover of the space.”

The centerpiece of Samsung KX is the Screenmax video wall, which features tiered seating for presentations, panel discussions, movie nights, gaming sessions, interactive experiences and other events. To provide cinematic sound for any application, Snelling installed JBL CBT1000 line array column loudspeakers with CBT 1000E extensions on either side of the screen, which deliver full-range audio with focused coverage. Along the top of the screen, four JBL AC16 compact loudspeakers provide additional centre coverage, with proprietary Coverage PT waveguides for consistent 90-degree vertical and horizontal dispersion. Two JBL VTX F18S subwoofers complete the Screenmax sound system, delivering impressive bass response in a compact enclosure. Snelling also supplied four JBL 708P powered reference monitors, which can supplement the system to create a temporary surround-sound setup.

The opposite side of the space features a Samsung The Wall Professional LED display in a comfortable living room-style environment. Two soffit-mounted JBL Synthesis S3900 speakers provide ultra-dynamic, high-fidelity sound thanks to dual 10-inch low-frequency drivers, a 1¾-inch high-frequency transducer and a dedicated ¾-inch ultrahigh-frequency transducer for crystal-clear treble detail. JBL AC115 subwoofers provide additional bass, delivering full-range sound that brings the latest movies and games to life with incredible depth and impact.

To provide seamless AV control and easy reconfiguration of the space, Snelling equipped Samsung KX with BSS signal processors, Crown amplifiers and AMX control systems. BSS Soundweb London signal processors provide a high-bandwidth, fault-tolerant digital audio bus that can route up to 256 individual channels over standard Cat-5 cable. The BSS signal processors feed network-connected Crown amplifiers, which provide crystal-clear amplification to the many speakers throughout the showroom, as well as advanced DSP via HiQnet Audio Architect software. An AMX Netlinx NX-1200 integrated controller, Modero MD-1002 touch panel and multiple Samsung tablets loaded with the AMX TPControl app provide seamless control over the audio, video and lighting systems.

“In order to deliver mission-critical performance with a versatile and robust AV infrastructure, we turned to Harman’s technology,” said Steve Royans, director at Snelling Business Systems. “The BSS signal processors allow for highly flexible deployment of DSP over two ‘wings’ of the store, as well as full audio routing to independent zones. Using Dante networked audio, we were able to configure all 52 speaker channels individually, which enabled us to ‘move’ audio around the space. The AMX NX-1200 integrated controller, Modero touch panel and AMX TPControl app give Samsung KX staff complete control of the space at all times. From simple volume and display control to full video and audio routing, the AMX NX-1200 is what holds the store together day to day.”

To further elevate the Samsung KX experience with dynamic lighting effects, Cosmic Electronics deployed a variety of Martin lighting fixtures and LED video elements. In the Screenmax area, three Martin MAC Encore Performance fixtures provide bright, natural-looking spot lighting for presentations and events, while seven MAC Aura XB fixtures provide rich, vibrant washes with superb colour mixing. Additionally, Cosmic Electronics highlighted the architecture of the bridge that joins the two wings of Samsung KX using Martin VDO Fatron 20 LED video blades. Mounted vertically at intervals along the floor-to-ceiling windows, the fixtures feature a 20mm pixel pitch and 16-bit colour mixing, providing dazzling video effects when mapped with Martin P3 control.

“MAC fixtures are used in theatres and TV studios all over the world, so we knew that the refresh rate was going to be fine for any sort of camera work and not conflict with anything on the screens,” said Mark Damon, director of Cosmic Electronics. “They’re also ultra-reliable. Since they’re mounted very high up, they’re not the easiest to get at and we can’t access them during the day, so it was very important for us to have very high-quality lights up there.”

Чтобы помочь рейнджерам южноафриканского заповедника Балул (Balule Nature Reserve), Samsung выступил с инициативой Wildlife Watch, в рамках которой любой пользователь может оказать содействие в борьбе с браконьерами. 

Samsung предоставил сотрудникам Балула смартфоны Galaxy S20 FE, 4 из которых расположили по периметру заповедника, чтобы круглосуточно фиксировать передвижения его обитателей. В рамках проекта Samsung выступил партнёром компании Africam, которая также предоставила заповеднику камеры для трансляций. Samsung’s Wildlife Watch Invites You to Become a Virtual Ranger and Watch Over Endangered Animals Live From the African Bush

Samsung announced the launch of Wildlife Watch, an ambitious new pilot that is using technology to help fight back against poaching in the African Bush. The pro-grade cameras in Samsung Galaxy S20 FE handsets will film live footage that will be streamed 24/7 from the Balule Nature Reserve in South Africa, part of the Kruger National Park. Everyone is invited to Take the Watch and become a virtual ranger, helping to protect endangered animals from poaching by monitoring them in their natural habitat and enjoy live sightings of these spectacular animals from home.

Samsung has joined forces with African technology pioneer Africam to reimagine one of its latest Galaxy mobile devices in an initiative that uses technology to help make the world a better place. Africam’s profit for purpose model means they charitably support The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit; an all-female troop who use non-violent methods to prevent poaching, which has surged during the pandemic as illegal hunters take advantage of the sudden fall in tourism. Through the Wildlife Watch initiative viewers will be closer to the work of the rangers, see the animals they protect and have the opportunity to donate to support them.

South Korean born, Berlin Based DJ, producer, and fashion designer Peggy Gou, who loves animals – especially giraffes – is fronting the initiative to champion and encourage people to take part, take the watch and raise awareness.

Four Samsung Galaxy S20 FE handsets have been installed as additional cameras in the bush, boosting the reach of the existing Africam infrastructure in the Balule Nature Reserve by over half for the duration of the pilot. The pro-grade camera in each handset is being used to film animals for the live stream. Supporting the rangers in their daily tasks, the bigger pixels, enhanced camera AI and 30x Space Zoom including 3 x Optical Zoom in the handsets have improved the quality of the photos the Black Mambas are able to take whilst on patrol. From a distance and even in low light and the unreliable conditions of the bush they can send clear and detailed images back to their base as evidence for investigations into poaching activity.

A camouflaged jeep fitted with a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE will also be used by the rangers for surveillance patrols, and the live streamed action will bring you closer to the rangers and their daily experiences.

Samsung’s Galaxy upcycling programme aims to solve social needs, lengthen product lifecycles, and reduce waste by reimagining phones into new roles. Repurposing existing products to serve a critical new function is a great way to avoid needing to create new products. As part of the Wildlife Watch initiative Samsung handsets are being redeployed by the rangers as CCTV cameras for perimeter fences, as well as adding crucial tech support to improve the rangers’ daily patrols.

Согласно данным специалистов подразделения Samsung Networks, целью разработки было помочь внедрить новые технологии, которые улучшают радиочастотные блоки сотовых сетей за счёт увеличения пропускной способности и площади покрытия при одновременном снижении энергопотребления и размеров. Новая SoC одновременно поддерживает сети 5G и 4G, выигрывая по уровню энергопотребления у предыдущих решений до 70%.

Samsung and Marvell Unveil New System-on-a-Chip To Advance 5G Networks

Samsung Electronics and Marvell announced that the companies jointly developed a new System-on-a-Chip (SoC) to enhance 5G network performance. The SoC—which will be used in Samsung’s Massive MIMO and other advanced radios—is targeted for market introduction to Tier One operators in Q2 2021.

The SoC is designed to help implement new technologies, which improve cellular radios by increasing their capacity and coverage, while decreasing power consumption and size. The new SoC is equipped to support both 5G and 4G networks simultaneously, and it can also save up to 70 percent in chipset power consumption compared to previous solutions.

“We are excited to extend our collaboration with Marvell to unveil a new SoC that will combine both companies’ strengths in innovation to advance 5G network solutions,” said Junehee Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung prioritizes the development of high-impact 5G solutions that offer a competitive edge to our operators. We look forward to introducing this latest solution to the market shortly.”

Samsung and Marvell have been working closely to deliver multiple generations of leading network solutions. Last year, the companies announced a collaboration to develop new 5G products, including innovative radio architectures to address the compute power required for Massive MIMO deployments.

Samsung helped German Sparkasse combine online services and classic bank branches

Конечно, флагманские модели того времени получают новые прошивки почаще, но на то они и флагманы, за которые были уплачены весьма внушительные суммы. Тем не менее, владельцам некогда весьма популярной линейки Galaxy J7 (ныне уже не существующей) грех жаловаться. Помимо того, что эти аппараты достаточно хорошо оснащены даже по нынешним временам (довольно ёмкий аккумулятор, сканер отпечатков пальцев, приличные камеры, встроенные комбинированные модули MST/NFC для полноценной поддержки сервиса Samsung Pay, стабильная работа приложений и металлический корпус), они продолжают получать обновление системы безопасности, как минимум, раз в полгода.

На днях такое обновление объёмом около 40Мб получили российские владельцы Galaxy J7 (2017). Скорее всего, это патч, закрывающий обнаруженные "дыры" в системе Android и некоторых приложениях.

The "flagship among budget smartphones" of 2017 - Samsung Galaxy J7 continues to receive software updates, which indicates that Samsung is serious about fulfilling its obligations to extend support for its mobile devices, even if they are relatively inexpensive devices.

Recently, the russian owners of Galaxy J7 (2017) received such an update with a volume of about 40MB. Most likely, this is a patch that closes the discovered "holes" in the Android operating system and some applications.

Согласно отраслевым данным, опубликованным в минувший четверг, было подтверждено, что Dongjin Semichem поставляет фоторезисты ArFi (иммерсионный фторид аргона) для Samsung Electronics, который использует его на своих современных производственных линиях по выпуску DRAM с конца прошлого года.

Dongjin Semichem впервые поставляет фоторезисты ArFi для Samsung. До недавнего времени Dongjin Semichem, в основном, поставляла фоторезисты KrF, которые на один класс ниже, чем ArFi. Конструкции чипов могут становиться тоньше и сложнее в зависимости от длины волны света. Причина, по которой источник света EUV (экстремальный ультрафиолет) с длиной волны 13,5 нанометров начинает использоваться вместо KrF (248 нм) и ArF (193 нм), заключается в том, что компании, производящие полупроводники, стремятся сделать качественные микросхемы более компактных размеров. ArFi в настоящее время наиболее широко используется на линиях по производству полупроводников.

Отраслевые эксперты говорят, что Samsung оказал существенную техническую и финансовую поддержку Dongjin Semichem, чтобы получить материалы с необходимыми свойствами, которые не потребуют какого-либо изменения техпроцесса и перенастройки литографического оборудования.

Dongjin Semichem собирается расширять бизнес с введением в строй нового предприятия, чтобы обеспечить Samsung Electronics различными типами фоторезистов, которые применяются на его линиях по выпуску полупроводниковой продукции. Dongjin Semichem Localizes ArFi Photoresist and Supplies the Photoresist to Samsung Electronics for the First Time  

It has been reported that Dongjin Semichem has been supplying “ArF photoresists” to Samsung Electronics. It is a meaningful example of localization of semiconductor materials since the export restriction imposed on EUV photoresist by Japanese Government in July of 2019 towards South Korea. It is expected that Dongjin Semichem will continue to expand its portfolio of photoresists from here and out.

According to the industry on Thursday, it has been confirmed that Dongjin Semichem has been supplying ArFi (argon fluoride immersion) photoresists to Samsung Electronics for its state-of-the-art DRAM production lines since the end of last year.

This is the first time that Dongjin Semichem is supplying ArF photoresists to Samsung Electronics. Until now, Dongjin Semichem had mainly been supplying KrF photoresists that are one grade lower than ArF photoresists. However, it can be seen that Dongjin Semichem’s upgraded technical skill has been recognized by Samsung Electronics by supplying ArFi photoresists.

Photoresist is a material that is always used during photolithography process where circuit designs are repeatedly printed through light. Circuit designs can be patterned once photoresists are evenly applied on wafers before the process.

Circuit designs can become thinner and more elaborate depending on a light’s wavelength. The reason why EUV light source that has a wavelength of 13.5 nanometers is starting to be used over KrF (248 nm) and ArF (193 nm) is because semiconductor companies want to pattern even smaller circuits more evenly. ArF light source is currently the most used light source at semiconductor production lines.

ArF lithography has a dry technique that uses air to adjust the refraction of a light that reaches wafers and an immersion technique that uses liquid with a high refractive index. Dongjin Semichem currently supplies photoresists that can satisfy ArF immersion lithography process that many semiconductor companies use as the main process.

Samsung Electronics’ ArFi photoresist supply chain was mostly made up of foreign companies. Dongjin Semichem has secured a golden opportunity since the export restrictions imposed by the Japanese Government. The company brought in a new ArFi equipment from ASML and it drastically increased its investment on hiring and necessary facilities and equipment. As a result, it was able to achieve development of ArFi photoresist added with an ability that can simplify semiconductor processes and application of ArFi photoresists to actual production lines in just a year and a half. It is reported that its ArFi photoresists have replaced other photoresists while not changing anything of production lines that are actually in operation.

“Replacing a material with a newer material is much more difficult than receiving an approval for a material during a new product R&D stage.” said one official from the industry. “It is heard that Samsung Electronics has also provided active support to Dongjin Semichem in order to introduce the company’s ArFi photoresists.”

Dongjin Semichem plans to accelerate diversification of its photoresists. It is expected that there will be many opportunities waiting for the company as dozens of ArFi photoresists are used during production. It is also expected that Dongjin Semichem’s ArFi photoresists will be used for Samsung Electronics’ next-generation semiconductors in the future.

Dongjin Semichem plans to operate its new plant in Hwaseong-si sometime in the middle of next month and increase production of both KrF photoresists and ArFi photoresists. Because the company is also working on development of EUV photoresists and photoresists used for foundry, it is expected to play a crucial role in localization of semiconductor materials.

Meanwhile, the company also succeeded in localizing raw materials of ArFi photoresist and is catching attention from the industry.

A representative for Dongjin Semichem said that the company would continue to strengthen its cooperation with South Korean raw material manufacturers in order to develop basic materials and create a semiconductor ecosystem.
