Sold out ahead of schedule: Russian fans of K-POP have exhausted the limit on the exclusive series of smart devices Samsung Galaxy BTS Edition in a few hours

Samsung Electronics Russia announced the early suspension of pre-order applications for special versions of the Galaxy S20+ smartphone and Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition headphones, created in collaboration with the popular South Korean boys band. This is due to the fact that the first batch of the above smart devices was fully reserved for few hours. 
Buyers will be able to get the ordered gadgets from July 9 to July 25. On sale, special versions of the Galaxy S20 + and Galaxy Buds + will appear in Samsung branded stores, online stores, as well as in "M-Video" and "Svyaznoy" retail chains at a recommended price of 85,000 rubles ($1.215) and 17,000 rubles ($243), respectively, starting July 15.
Earlier Samsung introduced limited versions of the Galaxy Note10 Star Wars™ for fans of the "Star Wars" movie saga and Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne, a flexible-screen smartphone created in collaboration with a renowned American designer.

When Samsung's Technology Meets Fashion: In Conversation with Designer Thom Browne

On the surface, the field of technology and fashion appear worlds apart. But for Samsung and world-renowned fashion designer Thom Browne, the idea of bringing their innovations together seemed natural right from the get-go. In the Galaxy Z Flip, the two companies found the perfect platform to showcase the fruits of their creative synergy.
The Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is designed for those who value individual expressions and aren’t afraid to stand out from the crowd. From the packaging to the wallpaper, the special edition device combines Samsung’s cutting-edge technology with Thom Browne’s iconic aesthetics to create a one-of-a-kind smartphone experience.
To mark the launch of the device, Thom Browne shares his thoughts on the collaboration and reveals his approach to the design of the special edition Galaxy Z Flip.

Q: Could you tell us how your collaboration with Samsung came about?

Thom Browne: Samsung has supported my works for quite some time and coming together for this collaboration was very easy for me, especially when we both value provoking people to think and see things differently with our work.

Q: How did you approach the design of the special edition Galaxy Z Flip?

TB: For my collections, I take classic ideas and I reintroduce them to people in conceptual ways. It started from taking a piece of tailored clothing and reintroducing it in a way that makes people take interest in it again.

The Galaxy Z Flip’s clamshell design is familiar to me because my first device was a flip phone. That’s why this project is completely in tune with how I approach design myself. It’s all about pushing a classic idea forward and make it as innovative as possible.

Q: How did you incorporate your brand into the Galaxy Z Flip?

TB: Within the phone, you see so many different elements of my world. The use of signature colors is both on the exterior and interior of the phone. Elements of the world of tailoring are also within the stitching of the apps. The aesthetic of Thom Browne is even in the packaging. It’s designed in a way that’s reminiscent of walking into an office and seeing a desk and a briefcase.

Q: What do you think is the most special aspect of this collaboration?

TB: Fashion and technology intersect as they are both concerned with taking ideas and moving them forward. This phone is really unique because it has the signature of both the world of Samsung and Thom Browne. You can see it in the design, the innovative technology, and the attention to creating something that is timeless.
When people use this phone, I want them to feel like they are using something special that is carefully thought out in terms of its technology and design.

Такие материалы помогают решать проблему переработки пластика. Кроме того, количество углекислого газа, выделяемого при производстве, уменьшается по сравнении с традиционным производством. Создание волокон из пластиковых бутылок – это экологически чистый процесс, который происходит без участия тяжёлой машинерии, тем самым способствуя сохранению невозобновляемых источников энергии.

Upcycling for Good: Samsung and Sustainable Textile Brand Kvadrat’s Eco-Friendly Accessory Line

As a company that looks to the future, Samsung innovates to change people’s lives for the better. Not only does this mean creating technologies and devices that allow users to better navigate their daily lives, but it also takes the form of allowing consumers to feel confident that, with a Samsung product, they have made an environmentally-friendly choice.
Thanks to a partnership with premium Danish textile brand Kvadrat, the latest Samsung accessories for the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy Watch Active2 are no exception.

Accessories for Good

When developing accessories for the Galaxy S20 series and other of the company’s latest products, Samsung made the decision to partner with Kvadrat, a company rooted in Scandinavian design tradition that has acquired the European Union’s Ecolabel certification – a certification known for its strict judgment criteria.
Following the sustainable practice of upcycling, the special Galaxy S20+ phone case is made up of re-purposed 500ml plastic bottles that are melted and reformulated into textile yarns. Upcycling, also known as ‘creative reuse’, is the process of transforming end-of-life products into new materials that not only are of better quality than the original, but also benefit the environment. In the case of Kvadrat’s yarn-making process, one plastic bottle can be repurposed to produce 2 Galaxy S20+ phone cases.
These recycled yarns help to reduce the number of plastic bottles found in landfills and are produced in a way that reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during manufacturing as compared with traditional material processes. The plastic bottle-sourced yarn is formed in an eco-friendly process that preserves non-renewable energy resources. Samsung is the first company among major brands in the mobile industry to have produced a phone case for its flagship device using recycled materials.
The Galaxy S20+ phone case made with textiles by Kvadrat follows the sustainable practice of upcycling by transforming end-of-life plastic bottles into recycled polyester yarns, from which cases can then be fashioned.
These recycled yarns are eco-friendly because they reduce the amount of PET bottles in landfills; in the U.S. alone, it is estimated that over 60 million of these bottles end up in landfills every single day. Each recycled 500ml plastic bottle can create 2 phone cases, allowing users the peace of mind that with the purchase of this special phone case, they are actively contributing to the reduction of plastic pollution.
The recycled yarns are also manufactured in a way that reduces carbon dioxide emissions as compared to traditional processes. Compared to conventional polyester production methods, Kvadrat’s recycled yarns are formed in a process that consumes less energy and preserves precious oil resources.
Last year, Samsung announced a partnership with the UN Development Programme to support the Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) which address some of the biggest challenges faced around the world, including the fight for climate action. In line with this, a portion of revenue from sales of the Samsung Global Goals edition of the Galaxy S20+ case made with Kvadrat textiles will be donated to UNDP in support of the 17 Global Goals(1).
As well as purchasing the Samsung Global Goals edition case, Galaxy users can also download the Samsung Global Goals app in order to discover more ways to get involved with the Samsung Global Goals initiative. With the app, users can learn more about each of the Global Goals and the issues they seek to tackle with detailed information, facts and figures on each Goal available. The app also helps raise money for the Global Goals, firstly by allowing users to donate directly to the Global Goals on the UNDP website and secondly by collecting ad revenue for the UNDP whenever users interact with ads on the app.
In addition to producing a line of cases for the Galaxy S20+, Samsung will also be releasing straps for the Galaxy Watch Active2 made out of Kvadrat textiles and other sustainable materials for those eco-minded Watch users.
Samsung is looking to not only promote sustainable product cycles but also to provide users with more options than ever when looking to make eco-friendly choices for the future.

В нём хранятся конфиденциальные и криптографические данные пользователей – пин-коды, пароли и даже учётные данные криптовалюты.
Secure Element на базе чипа S3K250AF сочетает в себе микроконтроллер, улучшенную защиту на аппаратном уровне и оптимизированную ОС. Благодаря оборудованию с сертификацией высочайшего уровня для мобильных компонентов CC EAL 5+, а также специализированному программному обеспечению, решение гарантирует безопасность мобильных устройств. Современные смартфоны или планшеты уже обладают надёжной защитой от возможного взлома, но специальный чип привносит дополнительную безопасность устройству от потенциальных атак, например, лазерных, реверс-инжиниринга или сбоев питания. Samsung’s new Secure Element solution features secure key storage with CC EAL 5+ certification and dedicated security software for enhanced data protection

Samsung Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today introduced a Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 5+ certified Secure Element (SE) turnkey solution for mobile devices. The new SE offers a strong security solution, consisting of a security chip (S3K250AF) and optimized software, that fully guards private data on an isolated data storage.
“Strong security measures have become a crucial feature in today’s smart devices as they evolve into essential tools that hold the key to our personal data connected to various services such as the cloud and financial transactions,” said Dongho Shin, senior vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung has a long and proven history in security solutions such as smart card ICs, IoT processors and other semiconductor products that require robust security. Samsung’s new turnkey solution is a dedicated tamper-resistant strongbox that securely stores users’ confidential and cryptographic data such as pin numbers, passwords and even crypto-currency credentials separate from the typical mobile memory such as embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS).
The S3K250AF-based SE combines a microcontroller, advanced hardware-level protection and an optimized secure OS. With a CC EAL 5+ certified-hardware, the highest level received by a mobile component, and dedicated protection software, the solution ensures top-notch security assurance on mobile devices. While current smartphones or tablets already have strong security in place to fend off possible tampering, the security-dedicated chip adds extra countermeasures to defend against possible attacks such as reverse engineering, power glitches and laser attacks, making it extremely harder for others to access or copy stored confidential data. In addition, the SE solution manages failed attempts and prevents replay attacks by accepting only the latest authentication request as a valid one.
Samsung’s new SE solution is currently in mass production and is featured in Samsung’s recently-announced Galaxy S20 series smartphones.

Samsung: уведомление «1» было разослано владельцам смартфонов Galaxy по ошибке и это никак не повлияет на качество работы Android-устройств

Со вчерашнего вечера владельцы различных смартфонов Samsung, работающих на операционной системе Android стали сообщать о получении таинственного уведомления. Причём это уведомление приходило владельцам девайсов по всему миру. Тут же начались кривотолки и выдвигаться разные теории, в том числе о хакерской атаке. Представители южнокорейской корпорации уже сделали официальное заявление по этому поводу.
Загадочное сообщение с единственным символом (вернее, с цифрой) «1» было отправлено сервисом Find My Mobile, предназначенного для поиска смартфона в случае утери или кражи. При нажатии на сообщение, уведомление переключало пользователя на домашний экран и бесследно исчезало.
Из-за случившегося некоторые особо чувствительные персоны не на шутку испугались. Они решили, что устройство кто-то пытается найти, а значит им могли продать украденный аппарат. Другие предположили хакерскую атаку, а кто-то и вовсе углядел в этом причастность иллюминатов.
В Samsung официально заявили, что уведомление «Find My Mobile 1» было отправлено на ограниченное количество устройств Galaxy по ошибке во время тестирования внутренних систем. Корпорация уверяет, что это никак не повлияло на работу смартфонов и извиняется за любые доставленные неудобства.
Смартфоны серии Samsung Z, которые работают на операционной системе TIZEN, эта проблема вообще не затронула.

Samsung: notification “1” was sent to owners of Galaxy smartphones by mistake and this will not affect the quality of Android devices

Today, a ton of Samsung customers and users were spooked by a mysterious notification. For some reason, their Find My Mobile app has pushed a message that simply says "1".
This has happened on various devices in many different countries and regions. Even the Galaxy S10+ in the office had the weird notification in its shade. Tapping on it does nothing and it disappears as quickly as it appeared.
A lot of users were spooked, thinking that it's a hacking attempt at their phone or that someone has hijacked their Samsung account. Don't panic — seeing as how widespread this is, it seems to be a server mistake at Samsung HQ. It just happened to send a notification to everybody — either it was a fluke or somebody pressed the wrong button.
Samsung representatives said the mistake was made during testing of internal equipment, so users of Galaxy devices do not need to worry.
The company apologizes for the inconvenience.
Samsung Z series smartphones that run on the TIZEN operating system have not been affected by this problem at all.

Начальная партия новых смартфонов Samsung Galaxy Z Flip со складывающимся пополам дисплеем была раскуплена в первый же день на нескольких рынках, в том числе в США, Объединенных Арабских Эмиратах и Сингапуре. Об этом сообщает южнокорейский новостной портал Pulse со ссылкой на отчёт Samsung.
Техногигант открыл приём заказов на свои новейшие "раскладушки" по цене 1380 долларов в прошлую пятницу, 14 февраля. По данным источника, Samsung подготовил порядка 20.000 устройств только для Южной Кореи. Это вдвое больше начальной партии Galaxy Fold, первой складной модели Samsung, дебют которой состоялся в сентябре 2019 года.
Согласно данным Pulse, особым спросом на глобальном рынке пользуется эксклюзивный набор мобильных девайсов Samsung (включающий Galaxy Z Flip), оформленных модным дизайнерским бюро Thom Browne. Причём покупателей совсем не отпугивает высокая цена этого комплекта. Линейка продуктов от Samsung/Tom Browne дебютировала на мероприятии New York Fashion Week Event 12 февраля и вызвала настоящий фурор.  
Несмотря на увеличенный объём сигнальной партии и довольно внушительный ценник Galaxy Z Flip, смартфоны разобрали практически моментально. В онлайн-магазине Samsung сообщается, что в настоящее время модель полностью распродана. Вендор лишь предлагает оставить электронный адрес для отправки уведомления о наличии товара.
На русскоязычном сайте Samsung, где принимались заказы на Galaxy Z Flip стоимостью 120.000 рублей, по состоянию на 19 февраля в наличии также нет ни одной модификации смартфона.
Аналитики отмечают, что спрос на Galaxy Z Flip существенно превзошёл предложение. В Samsung Electronics изначально планировали реализовать в 2020 году порядка 2.500.000 этих устройств, но теперь рассчитывают на более высокий результат. Для сравнения: прошлогодняя реализация предшествующей модели Galaxy Fold оценивается примерно в 500.000 штук.
Позитивная реакция рынка на новинку от Samsung подтверждает правоту экспертов Strategy Analytics, которые ранее предсказали существенный рост популярности смартфонов со сгибающимися дисплеями. Ожидается, что в этом году поставки таких устройств увеличатся до 8.000.000, тогда как в 2019-м их отгрузки не дотянули до 1.000.000 единиц.
Рыночные аналитики также заявили, что складные смартфоны станут самой быстрорастущей категорией на рынке аппаратов премиум-класса, и к 2025 году их поставки достигнут 100.000.000 штук.

Galaxy Z Flip’s initial batch sold out globally

Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy Z Flip has proved again that foldable phones could create new smartphone demand with its initial shipments out of stock on its first day in several markets including the United States, United Arab Emirate, Russia and Singapore. 
The category-bending foldable smartphone which began selling last Friday draws a hot response also from Korea as more consumers are willing to get it even without any mobile carriers’ subsidy. The initial pre-order batch of Z Flip models are now sold out at Samsung’s online store, according to the company. 
One reason behind the phone’s high demand is its simple sleek design and cheaper price tag, which starts at $1,380, lower than its bulky predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, according to market experts. A special Thom Browne variant of the model with a higher price tag is even more popular. All pre-sale tickets are sold out. Some are even asking for a premium of over 1 million won ($840) on the $2,500 limited edition on a local secondhand dealing website.
The first batch of Samsung’s new foldable smartphone is known to be some 20,000 units, 10 times larger than that of the Galaxy Fold, but the current supply is certainly outpaced by demand, market analysts said. Samsung Electronics expects this year’s sales of the Galaxy Z Flip to surpass its initial target of 2.5 million devices. Sales of the Galaxy Fold reached 500,000 units last year. 
Analysts say the favorable market response is bolstering the outlook for stocks of Samsung Electronics and related component suppliers. 
On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics posted a video on how the device is manufactured, tested and shipped, saying that the Galaxy Z Flip is now made in Korea not in Vietnam.
