Южная Корея и зарубежные партнёры выражают дань уважения скончавшемуся главе Samsung Group

Из-за эпидемии коронавируса и пожеланий семьи ушедшего в минувшее воскресенье главы флагмана южнокорейской экономики Samsung Group Ли Кун-хи (в нынешней интерпретации Ли Гон-хи), церемония прощания была максимально сокращена.

Гроб с телом покойного находится в ритуальном зале медицинского центра Samsung, где Ли-старший провёл последние 6 лет в бессознательном состоянии после перенесённого инфаркта. За несколько лет до этого южнокорейские медики смогли поставить главу Samsung на ноги после того, как диагностировали у него рак лёгких.

Ли Гон-хи, младший сын основателя конгломерата Samsung Ли Бён-чёля, принял бразды правления в 1987 году, сразу после смерти отца. Он много и упорно работал, чтобы превратить Samsung из производителя электроники "второго эшелона" в глобального лидера. Сможет ли новое руководство чеболя во главе с наследником бизнеса Ли Джй-ёном (единственным сыном Ли-старшего) продолжить славные традиции основателей флагмана южнокорейской экономики, покажет время. Впереди предстоят непростые времена, связанные с судебным разбирательством вокруг престолонаследия и выплаты семьёй Ли гигантских налогов в пользу государства (более 50%) на активы, оставшиеся после смерти Ли Гон-хи.

А пока на церемонию прощания с главой Samsung Group прибывают топ-менеджеры ведущих корпораций, представители дипломатического корпуса, находящиеся в Южной Корее, родственники и ближайшие друзья покойного.

Посол США, посетивший накануне Samsung Medical Center, отметил огромный вклад председателя Ли в развитие корейско-американских отношений и взаимовыгодное сотрудничество двух стран в области передовых технологий. Президент Республики Корея Мун Джей-ин прислал своих представителей и траурный венок со специальным посланием, где говорится о выдающемся вкладе Ли Гон-хи в развитие экономики страны. Глубокие соболезнования семье покойного выразили представители МОК, отметив особую роль Samsung в развитии международного олимпийского движения, поскольку электронный гигант уже много лет является технологическим партнёром и спонсором Олимпийских Игр. Также ведущие деятели культуры выразили признательность покойному за огромный вклад, который корпорация во главе с Ли Гон-хи внесла в сохранение духовного наследия человечества.   

В соответствии с завещанием Ли-старшего и пожеланиями членов его семьи, похороны пройдут скромно, в тесном семейном кругу. Церемония захоронения назначена на среду, 28 октября.

Send-off ceremony for late Samsung chief to be held Wednesday, mourners in queue

Samsung Group on Tuesday was preparing for the send-off ceremony for its late chief Lee Kun-hee as more leaders from business and political communities mourned the death of one of South Korea's most influential tycoons.

Lee died Sunday at age 78, more than six years after being hospitalized for a heart attack.

The funeral ceremony for Lee, scheduled for Wednesday, is expected to start with eulogies featuring his decadeslong commitment to the country's top conglomerate and his achievements, though Samsung Group did not reveal the entire process of the funeral service.

The funeral procession may travel to places where he left a footprint at Samsung before arriving at a burial site, including his house in Yongsan Ward, central Seoul, Samsung Electronics' headquarters in Suwon, just south of Seoul, and the company's chip plant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

The burial site for Lee is expected to be in Yongin, where the graves of his parents are located, but others said his coffin could head to Suwon, where his ancestors are buried.

Samsung earlier announced that Lee's funeral will be held in a modest manner with family members, and it courteously declined visits from others due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the country's social distancing scheme, indoor gatherings of more than 50 people are not recommended in the greater Seoul area.

Samsung has accepted a small group of mourners, with virus prevention measures, such as keeping entry logs, being enforced at a funeral hall at Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul.

On the third day of Lee's funeral service, business moguls, including LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, LS Group chief Koo Ja-yeol and Hyundai Card CEO Chung Tae-young, paid tribute to the late Samsung chief.

"Lee was a great businessman who enormously developed the country's tech industry," LG's Koo told reporters. "I'm very sad because it would have been better if these business greats live long and teach us more lessons."

Government officials and politicians, including former prime ministers Lee Hong-koo and Chung Un-chan, also offered their condolences.

They were joined by foreign ambassadors to the country, including German Ambassador Michael Reiffenstuel and Hungarian Ambassador Mozes Csoma.

Lee Kee-heung, head of the South Korean Olympic committee, also mourned the late Samsung Group chief who served as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1996 to 2017.

Celebrities from the art and music industries, including pianist Cho Seong-jin, the winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015, and violin virtuoso Chung Kyung-wha, were also at the funeral hall, remembering Lee's contributions to the cultural sector.

Samsung expects more visitors later Tuesday since it is the last day for others to visit the funeral parlor before Lee's body is transported to a burial ground.

On Monday, top government officials, including Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki, as well as political heavyweights from the ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition People Power Party, visited the funeral parlor and offered their condolences.

Business moguls, including Hyundai Motor Group chief Chung Euisun and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, also made their visits Monday.

Samsung Elec to spearhead digital and mobile campaign for Olympics

Samsung Electronics may lead digitalization of the world’s oldest and foremost international sports competitions. 
According to sources on Thursday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has recently approached the electronics behemoth to explore mobile and smart applications to the quadrennial event.
Samsung Electronics, a longtime Olympic sponsor, has held working-level meetings with the IOC. The committee’s turn to Samsung Electronics reflects its challenges against waning interest in the international sports competitions. 
The talks are in the initial stages but their focus is on employing Samsung Electronics’ advanced digital and mobile technology to add immersive experience to the events. Smartphone streaming of the sports actions and deployment of devices on the scene to produce more sense of reality are among the ideas. Employment of artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality solutions also can come under study.
The digital campaign may be applied as early as next year during the summer games in Tokyo. 
Samsung Electronics has supported the Olympic Games as worldwide partner since it became a sponsor of 1988 Olympic Games that took place in Korea. The company became the Olympic Partner in 1997 and officially supported wireless communications equipment for the Olympic Winter Games Nagano in 1998. Samsung Electronics last December announced its IOC partnership extension through to 2028.

IOC and Samsung Extend Partnership Through to 2028

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Samsung Electronics (Samsung) today announced an extension to their global Olympic partnership through to 2028.
The announcement was made in Seoul, Republic of Korea, at a signing ceremony with IOC President Thomas Bach and Jay Y. Lee, Vice Chairman at Samsung Electronics; IOC Marketing Commission Chair Tsunekazu Takeda; Dong Jin Koh, President and CEO of the Samsung IT&Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics; and Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics.
Samsung will continue as the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the wireless communications equipment and computing equipment category, including the ability to promote the Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and 5G features of that equipment. As part of the agreement, the IOC and Samsung will further develop their strategic digital collaboration to engage young generations around the world in order to promote the power of sport and the values of Olympism.
IOC President Thomas Bach said: “I am delighted that we will be building on two decades of partnership with Samsung for another 10 years. Samsung will continue its support beyond the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and will support every edition of the Olympic Games through to Los Angeles 2028, as well as all the Youth Olympic Games through to 2028. Samsung will also continue to support the IOC, the National Olympic Committees and their teams. Samsung’s first Games as a Worldwide TOP Partner were the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998. Samsung will also continue as a Worldwide Partner of the International Paralympic Committee, extending a relationship that began in 2006.
In collaboration with the IOC and the Organizing Committees, Samsung plans to continue its Athlete Phone Program. This program provides Limited Olympic Edition Galaxy phones to all participating Olympic and Paralympic athletes to enhance the athletes’ Games-time experience, help them stay in touch with their family and friends, and capture and share their journeys.

После того, как ООН наложила санкции на Иран и Северную Корею за тайные разработки ядерного оружия, МОК (Международный олимпийский комитет) был вынужден отменить вручение подарков спортсменам этих стран в виде флагманских смартфонов Samsung Galaxy Note 8 с олимпийской символикой и специальным программным обеспечением.
Всё дело в том, что согласно принятому ООН постановлению, запрещено экспортировать в страны-нарушительницы предметы роскоши и устройства двойного назначения, которые могут использоваться в военных целях. Galaxy Note 8, который стоит около тысячи долларов США, не проходит по обоим критериям, сообщает The Washington Post.
Скандал разгорелся накануне открытия Олимпийских Игр в Пхёнчхане, когда представители Ирана устроили настоящую истерику, а в Сети развернули кампанию по бойкоту продукции Samsung. Дело дошло до заявлений иранского МИД, кричавшего об "унижении иранцев как нации". (Olympics) Iranian athletes to receive Samsung phones without condition

Organizers for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics said Friday they have decided to provide free Samsung smartphones to Iranian athletes without the condition of returning them, amid looming anti-Samsung sentiment in Tehran.
"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to allow the provision of the Galaxy Note 8 smartphones to four Iranian athletes without the condition of handing them back," an official from the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Games said.
The decision apparently came amid looming anti-Samsung sentiment in Iran after reports that their athletes will not be getting the smartphones reached the Middle East country.
The United Nations' sanctions ban providing North Korea and Iran with luxury goods or devices that can potentially be used for military purposes.
Samsung Electronics has provided some 4,000 units of the Galaxy Note 8 Olympic Edition to all athletes and International Olympic Committee officials visiting PyeongChang. There are 22 North Korean and four Iranian athletes at the 2018 Winter Games.
Teheran's foreign ministry on Thursday summoned South Korea's ambassador to Iran, demanding Seoul and Samsung deliver an apology. The South Korean tech giant is a worldwide Olympic partner company.
North Koreans will still not be getting the smartphones.
Through a statement provided to Yonhap News Agency on Thursday, the IOC said it has asked North Koreans to return the free handsets after the event.
"Regarding North Korea, all participants are requested not to take the phones back to their home country but to only use them during their stay in PyeongChang, since that is required to allow them to participate in the Games," the IOC said.
But another official said North Koreans still refused to receive the smartphones.
"There was a confusion as the IOC and organizers had to review legal issues on giving the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone to athletes from countries under international sanction," an official from the organizing committee said, apologizing to Samsung for being accused despite its good intentions.
