Преследование руководства Samsung нынешними левацкими властями Южной Кореи, которые фактически обезглавили конгломерат и лишили семью основателей крупнейшего чеболя возможности принимать ключевые решения, деморализовало его топ-менеджмент. Стремясь избежать падения доходов на фоне пандемии и непрекращающегося давления со стороны прокуратуры, оставшиеся на свободе руководители конгломерата лихорадочно ищут способы остаться на плаву.

Из-за этого они соглашаются на глупые требования крупных акционеров, мало что понимающих в IT-бизнесе. В результате одно непродуманное действие следует за другим. Samsung демонстрирует безграничную лояльность к "стратегическому партнёру" Google, открывая для него всё "новые горизонты" за счёт сокращения собственных сервисов в мобильных устройствах, а также проявляет "глубокое понимание" чаяний властей в странах с авторитарными режимами.

Накануне российский сегмент интернета разразился негодованием и проклятьями в адрес Samsung за то, что тот "побежал впереди паровоза", досрочно выполнив требование Кремля о принудительной установке софта от местных поставщиков типа Yandex, mail.ru и Kaspersky Lab. Тревогу населения РФ можно понять: на фоне беспрецедентного ужесточения цензуры и уголовного преследования оппозиционно настроенных граждан, навязывание российского софта рассматривается ими не иначе как очередной факт проявления тотальной слежки за каждым владельцем мобильного устройства.

Чтобы выглядеть "пай-мальчиками" в глазах кремлёвского руководства, в Samsung преподнесли им "идеологический подарок", лишив владельцев устройств Galaxy возможности удалять насильно навязанный софт. Таким образом, и без того перегруженная множеством бесполезных функций Android OS с фирменной оболочкой Samsung One UI станет ещё более тяжеловесной и тормозной, требующей дополнительных вычислительных ресурсов и усиленно "сжирающая" аккумулятор.

Даже такая алчная контора как Yandex, давно пляшущая под кремлёвскую дудку, выпустила сегодня лицемерное заявление с призывом к Samsung всё-таки дать возможность пользователям смартфонов Galaxy удалять свои сервисы. Однако на это не так много надежды, поскольку российские структуры Samsung буквально наводнены сотрудниками российских спецслужб, а также их многочисленными друзьями и родственниками. Это та самая плата, которую западный бизнес должен учитывать, работая в таких странах как Россия, правящий режим которой расценивается цивилизованным миром не иначе как криминальный и террористический.

В отличие от Samsung, американская Apple добилась права добровольной установки российских сервисов на свои гаджеты, что предвещает значительный отток пользователей устройств Galaxy на конкурирующую платформу iOS. Масла в огонь также подливают распространяемые в СМИ слухи о возможном переходе смарт-часов Samsung на WearOS от всё той же "корпорации добра" Google. Огромное количество владельцев смарт-часов Samsung не хотят расставаться с давно полюбившейся TIZEN OS и заявляют, что в случае уничтожения южнокорейским производителем собственной хорошо оптимизированной программной платформы, они больше не видят смыла в покупке гаджетов Galaxy (как смарт-часов, так и смартфонов).

К сожалению, 1 апреля 2021 года, когда вступает в силу закон о принудительной установке местного софта, не станет весёлым праздником для российских пользователей, равно как и для самого Samsung, ибо за предательство интересов покупателя рано или поздно придётся расплачиваться.

Samsung is held captive by Google and the Kremlin

The persecution of Samsung's leadership by the current leftist authorities in South Korea, which effectively decapitated the conglomerate and deprived the family of the founders of the largest chaebol, the ability to make key decisions, demoralized its top management. Samsung demonstrates boundless loyalty to the "strategic partner" Google, opening up "new horizons" for it by reducing its own services in mobile devices, and also showing a "deep understanding" of the aspirations of the authorities in countries with authoritarian regimes.

The day before, the russian segment of the Internet burst out with indignation and curses against Samsung for "running faster than a horse", having fulfilled the Kremlin's demand for the forced installation of software from local suppliers such as Yandex, mail.ru and Kaspersky Lab in advance. The anxiety of the population of the Russian Federation can be understood: against the background of an unprecedented tightening of censorship and criminal prosecution of opposition-minded citizens, the imposition of russian software is viewed by them as just another fact of the manifestation of total surveillance of every owner of a mobile device.

To look like "good boys" in the eyes of the Kremlin leadership, Samsung presented them with an "ideological gift", depriving the owners of Galaxy devices of the ability to remove forcibly imposed software. Thus, the Android OS, already overloaded with many useless functions, will become even more cumbersome and braking, requiring additional computing resources and intensively "devouring" the battery.

Even a greedy company like Yandex, which has long danced to the Kremlin's tune, released a hypocritical statement today calling on Samsung to still allow Galaxy smartphone users to delete their services. However, there is not much hope for this, since the russian structures of Samsung are literally flooded with employees of the russian special services and their many friends and relatives. This is the very fee that Western business must take into account when working in countries such as Russia, whose ruling regime is regarded by the civilized world as criminal and terrorist.

Unlike Samsung, the american Apple Inc. has won the right to voluntarily install russian services on its gadgets, which heralds a significant outflow of Galaxy device users to the rival iOS platform. The rumors circulating in the media about the possible transition of Samsung smart watches to WearOS from the same "good corporation" Google also add fuel to the fire. A huge number of Samsun's smartwatch owners do not want to part with their long-loved TIZEN OS and say that if the South Korean manufacturer destroys its own well-optimized software platform, they no longer see the point in buying Galaxy gadgets. This applies to both smartwatches and smartphones.

Unfortunately, April 1, 2021, when the law on the forced installation of local software comes into force, will not be a happy holiday for russian users. Also, it will not be a happy day for Samsung, because sooner or later you will have to pay off for betrayal the interests of buyers.

Samsung активировал в Германии все анонсированные функции на своих флагманских смарт-часах Galaxy Watch 3, работающих на операционной системе TIZEN, сообщает технопортал Computer Bild.

Ранее для пользователей Galaxy Watch 3 была открыта возможность измерения артериального давления и определения уровня насыщенности крови кислородом. По умолчанию при покупке часов уже были доступны такие базовые функции как измерение частоты пульса и определение физической активности посредством универсального приложения Samsung Health.

Такой набор опций открывает широкие возможности для применения таких прогрессивных методов как телемедицина и дистанционная консультация врача (в тех странах, где такие услуги уже доступны пациентам, например, в США и Великобритании).

В России местные регуляторы не торопятся давать "зелёный свет" медицине будущего (ждут особых подношений от производителей электронных девайсов для активизации процесса?) и, насколько известно, эти вопросы даже не обсуждаются в Госдуме. Поэтому неудивительно, что абсолютное большинство носимых устройств премиального уровня не раскрывают и половины своего потенциала на этой "духовноскрепной" территории.

На сегодняшний день функция мониторинга ЭКГ доступна для владельцев Galaxy Watch Active2 и Galaxy Watch 3 на территории более чем 30-ти стран мира.

German owners of premium Samsung smartwatches have received the entire set of options promised by the manufacturer

Samsung has activated all of the announced features in Germany on its flagship Galaxy Watch 3 running on the TIZEN operating system, Computer Bild reports.

After a lengthy certification process by local regulators, owners of the South Korean tech giant's most up-to-date smartwatch gained access to important features such as electrocardiogram (ECG)* recording and fall detection in the event of a heart attack or loss of consciousness. Earlier, Galaxy Watch 3 users were able to measure blood pressure and determine the level of blood oxygen saturation. By default, with the purchase of the watch, basic functions such as heart rate measurement and physical activity detection through the universal Samsung Health app were already available.

Such a set of options opens up wide opportunities for the use of such advanced methods as telemedicine and remote consultation of a doctor (in those countries where such services are already available to patients, for example, in the USA and Great Britain).

Currently, the ECG monitoring function is available to owners of the latest Samsung smartwatches in more than 30 countries around the world.

Любительский ресурс SamMobile, основанный когда-то фанатами Android, устроил фейковое "голосование", результаты которого должны побудить местную паству к агитации за переход смарт-часов Samsung с TIZEN OS на Wear OS. Даже формулировка вопросов говорит об ангажированности автора этой агитки (некий Михай М.), который почти наверняка получает определённую мзду (напрямую или через посредников) от своих хозяев в Маунтин-Вью (в этом калифорнийском городке находится логово "корпорации добра" Google).

Мы уже неоднократно поясняли, почему активное использование программных продуктов от Google наносит колоссальный ущерб дальнейшим перспективам Samsung. И это вовсе не мнение "обезумевших фанатов TIZEN", а результат многолетних наблюдений и исследований, проведённых как сотрудниками нашей редакции, так и консолидированной позиции специалистов в области IT, которых мы опрашивали.

В конечном итоге не имеет значения, какая именно ОС используется в девайсах Samsung. Принципиально важно, чтобы операционная система была хорошо оптимизирована под аппаратные платформы Samsung и полностью контролировалась производителем. Лишь при таких условиях можно говорить о реальной независимости и разрабатывать продукты, существенно отличающиеся в лучшую сторону от конкурентов.

TIZEN дал возможность Samsung реализовать интересные задумки инженеров, которые предложили целый ряд уникальных опций в тех же смарт-часах и телевизорах, не говоря уже о широкой гамме продуктов сегмента B2B, где Samsung имеет сильнейшие позиции.

Сейчас вопрос заключается в том, хватит ли решимости топ-менеджменту Samsung в условиях беспрецедентного давления со стороны Google-лобби не купиться на посулы "стратегического партнёра" о финансовых преференциях за использование своих операционных систем и сервисов в устройствах южнокорейского производителя электроники.

Ходят слухи, что секретный "пакт о капитуляции" уже был подписан, но если этого ещё не произошло, у всех вменяемых сторонников свободного выбора ещё имеется шанс оказать воздействие на безумцев, тянущих Samsung в грязное болото. Поэтому мы призываем всех неравнодушных людей активнее включаться в обсуждение этой проблемы на соответствующих форумах и переломить ход голосования даже на таких продажных ресурсах, как SamMobile.

Judgment Day for Samsung: Google Adherents Staged a Fake "Voting" to Switch from TIZEN to Wear OS

An amateur resource SamMobile, once founded by Android fans, organized a fake "voting", the results of which should induce the local flock to campaign for the transition of Samsung smartwatches from TIZEN OS to Google's Wear OS. Even the wording of the questions speaks of the bias of the author of this propaganda (a certain Mihai M.), who almost certainly receives a certain bribe (directly or through intermediaries) from his owners in Mountain View (in this Californian town is the lair of the "good corporation" Google).

We have already explained many times why the active use of software products from Google causes colossal damage to the future prospects of Samsung. And this is not the opinion of the "maddened TIZEN fans" at all, but the result of many years of observations and research carried out both by our editorial staff and the consolidated position of IT specialists whom we interviewed.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter which OS is used in Samsung devices. It is essential that the operating system is well optimized for Samsung hardware platforms and fully controlled by the manufacturer. Only under such conditions can we talk about real independence and develop products that differ significantly for the better from competitors.

TIZEN empowered Samsung to implement interesting ideas from engineers who offered a range of unique options in smartwatches and TVs, not to mention a wide range of products in the B2B segment, where Samsung has a strong position.

Now the question is whether the top management of Samsung will have enough determination not to sell itself to Google, which imposes its operating systems and services, promising "mountains of gold" for this.

Rumor has it that a secret "surrender pact" has already been signed, but if this has not happened yet, all sane supporters of free choice still have a chance to influence the madmen who drag Samsung into the muddy swamp. Therefore, we urge all concerned people to become more actively involved in the discussion of this problem in the appropriate forums and turn the tide of voting even on such dubious resources as SamMobile.

Samsung Electronics UK объявляет об активации функции экстренного вызова на носимых устройствах с TIZEN 5.5 и выше

Функция отправки экстренных сообщений (SOS) со смарт-часов Galaxy, ранее доступная только на Android-смартфонах Samsung, теперь запущена на девайсах с операционной системой TIZEN, сообщается на британском новостном сайте южнокорейского техногиганта. Владельцы часов серии Galaxy теперь смогут обратиться за экстренной помощью, оказавшись в опасной ситуации. Достаточно 3-х кликов на кнопке блокировки, чтобы информация о вашем местоположении и призывом о помощи была отправлена родственникам и (или) службам спасения.

Функция SOS позволяет автоматически звонить или отправлять текстовую информацию 4-м заранее выбранным абонентам, при этом не требуется набора номера.

После активации вы можете разослать предупреждение, трижды нажав на кнопку Home (она же кнопка блокировки). После этого часы немедленно отправят экстренное сообщение и ссылку на карту Google с указанием вашего местоположения. Эта опция также позволяет транслировать изображения с передней и задней камеры вашего смартфона, а также сделать пятисекундную аудиозапись с призывом о помощи.

Вот как вы можете активировать SOS-вызов на часах Samsung Galaxy:

1) Откройте приложение Galaxy Wearable.

How to Activate SOS messages on your Samsung Galaxy Devices

The Samsung Galaxy SOS messages feature, which has been available on Samsung Galaxy smartphones since 2016, allows you to reach out for help if you find yourself in a situation where you do not feel safe and need to raise an emergency alert.

The feature enables you to auto-call and message up to four designated contacts without having to dial them.

Once activated, you can raise an alert by clicking your lock button three times. This will automatically send an SOS message and a Google map link of your location to your designated contacts. The feature also shares pictures from both the front and rear cameras of your smartphone, as well as a five-second audio recording.

Here’s how you can activate Samsung Galaxy SOS messages:

Samsung Galaxy smartphone[1]

1) Go to Settings.

2) Go to the Advanced Features, and select Send SOS messages.

3) You can select the recipient from your contact book or create a new contact, adding the mobile number for the recipient so they can receive your message

To disable this feature, follow the same steps above: Settings > Advanced Features > Send SOS messages > OFF.

Samsung Galaxy smart watch[2]

1) Open the Galaxy Wearable app

2) Go to Send SOSes, and then tap the switch to enable SOS messages

3) You’ll be asked to add an emergency contact. You can either create contact or select from contacts, and then add or create your designated contact.

 

Once activated, you can raise an alert by clicking your home button on your Samsung Galaxy smart watch three times. This will automatically send an SOS message followed by a link to your location.

If you would like the option of cancelling if activated accidentally, swipe to activate the Count down before sending feature, which waits five seconds before sending SOS messages and calls to allow them to cancelled.

To disable this feature, follow the same steps above: Open Galaxy Wearable app > Send SOSes > OFF.

Earlier in some countries, Samsung smartwatches gained access to the PITPAT application, which automatically calls an ambulance in case of a heart attack.

Samsung Electronics начал распространять большое обновление ПО для своих первых моделей смарт-часов семейств Galaxy Watch, выпущенных в конце лета 2018 года, и Galaxy Watch Active, которые появились в начале 2019-го. 

Программный апдейт приносит на эти девайсы множество функции самой актуальной модели Galaxy Watch 3. Прошивки распространяются под кодовыми номерами R810XXU1FUB6 для Galaxy Watch и R500XXUF1UB5 для Galaxy Watch Active. Объём нераспакованных файлов составляет 291Мб. Обновить свои носимые устройства уже могут владельцы указанных моделей в Южной Корее и США, а в других регионах оно будет доступно в ближайшее время. 

Среди новых опций можно выделить такие, как просмотр изображений и оповещений со смартфона, поддержка AR-эмодзи и так называемых Bitmoji, голосовые подсказки для тренировок (бег и езда на велосипеде), «длинные» скриншоты с прокруткой и голосовые подсказки для беспроводных наушников через соединение по Bluetooth. 

Когда Galaxy Watch и Galaxy Watch Active впервые появились на рынке, они работали под управлением операционной платформы TIZEN 4.0, а новая прошивка сразу повышает их до версии TIZEN 5.5, как в самых последних моделях Galaxy Watch Active 2 и Galaxy Watch 3.

Между тем, в Сети набирает обороты кампания в защиту TIZEN после публикации информационного вброса китайского инсайдера Ice Univerce о якобы готовящемся переходе Samsung на гугловскую Wear OS в своих носимых устройствах. Вслед за гневной статьёй на портале Tom's Guide, столь же жёсткий материал опубликовал известный техноресурс GIZMODO.

Samsung has released a major software update for the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active

Samsung Electronics has begun rolling out a major software update for its first smartwatch families, the Galaxy Watch, launched in late summer 2018, and the Galaxy Watch Active, launched in early 2019.

A software update brings many of the features of the latest Galaxy Watch 3 to these devices. Firmware is distributed under code numbers R810XXU1FUB6 for Galaxy Watch and R500XXUF1UB5 for Galaxy Watch Active. The volume of non unpacked files is 291MB.

Owners of these models in South Korea and the USA can already update their wearables, and it will be available in other regions soon.

Among the new options are such as viewing images and notifications from a smartphone, support for AR emoji and the so-called Bitmoji, voice prompts for training (running and cycling), “long” scrolling screenshots and voice prompts via wireless headphones.

When the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active first hit the market, they were running the TIZEN 4.0 operating platform, and new firmware upgrades them to TIZEN 5.5, like the latest Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3.  

Meanwhile, the campaign in defense of TIZEN is gaining momentum on the Web after the publication of the informational stuffing by the Chinese insider Ice Univerce about Samsung's allegedly impending transition to Google's Wear OS in its wearable devices. Following the angry article on the Tom's Guide portal, the well-known tech resource GIZMODO published an equally harsh material.

Samsung, не делай этого!

При всём уважении к моей коллеге Кейт, которая утверждает, что переход Samsung с TIZEN на Wear OS в будущих Galaxy Watch 4 изменит правила игры , я здесь, чтобы сказать вам, что такой шаг будет катастрофой и разрушит всё, что в них есть хорошего. Итак, специально о смарт-часах Samsung.

Во-первых, давайте посмотрим на долю рынка. По данным Canalsys , в первой половине 2020 года на умные часы Samsung приходилось примерно 12% от всего глобального рынка таких устройств. Даже при самых благоприятных обстоятельствах и максимальной экономии вам повезёт, если вы сможете получить 2 полных дня без необходимости подзаряжать аккумулятор. С другой стороны, более эффективная операционная система TIZEN позволяет использовать умные часы Samsung, как минимум, 3 дня. Это не впечатляет по сравнению с такими спортивными гаджетами, как Garmin и Fitbit, но, по крайней мере, вы можете отправиться в поездку на выходные и не беспокоиться о том, что ваши часы "умрут" к тому времени, когда вы вернётесь.

Насколько это плохо? Когда я ввёл в поисковик Google «WearOS», в рабочем поле всплыли два самых массовых вопроса: «Хороша ли WearOS?» и «WearOS мертва?»

Практически единственной крупной компанией, использующей WearOS, является Fossil Group, которая наплодила полдюжины брэндов и продаёт их под марками Misfit, Skagen, Armani Exchange, Diesel, Emporio Armani и Michael Kors. Все они работают на старом чипе Qualcomm 3100, выпущенном аж в 2018-м году.

Я понимаю, почему Fossil выбрала WearOS и почему это может быть заманчиво для Samsung: им гораздо проще и дешевле создать множество корпусов при единой стандартизации внутренних компонентов. Это всё-равно что покупать Toyota Camry, но иметь возможность выбирать из десятков вариантов отделки салона при неизменных ходовых параметрах. Я также понимаю, что, поскольку за WearOS стоит Google, там имеется больше разработчиков, которые, вероятно, будут клепать приложения для этой платформы. Кроме того, вы можете связать его со всеми приложениями Google, а также с Google Assistant.

Но из-за этой массовой стандартизации вы не увидите никаких инноваций в WearOS; накидайте блестящих страз на безель часов, оцените их в 350 долларов и, вуа-ля, всё готово.

И, будучи мировым лидером в производстве смартфонов, такая тесная интеграция помогает этому брэнду.

Совершенно очевидно, что Google не является авторитетом в мире умных часов со своей WearOS. И Samsung рискует стать таким же.

With all due respect to my colleague Kate, who argues that Samsung switching from TIZEN to Wear OS for its Galaxy Watch 4 would be a game-changer, I’m here to tell you that such a move would be a disaster and ruin all that’s special about Samsung smartwatches.

First, let’s take a look at market share. According to Canalsys, in the first half of 2020, Samsung’s smartwatches accounted for roughly 12 percent of the entire smartwatch market. It came in third to Apple (36%) and Huawei (14%), the latter spurred by sales in China. All others — which includes all Wear OS watches — made up a combined 22% of the market, behind both Garmin and Fitbit. 

From simply a market perspective, Samsung abandoning TIZEN for a platform that is an also-ran makes little sense. But let’s also look at it from the point of view of a prospective smartwatch owner.

When you look at Apple Watches and Wear OS watches, they have one thing in common: lousy battery life. Even under the best of circumstances, you’ll be lucky to get two full days without needing to recharge your battery. TIZEN’s more efficient operating system, on the other hand, lets you use a Samsung smart watch for at least three days. That’s not spectacular when compared to the likes of Garmin and Fitbit, but at least you can go on a weekend trip and not worry that your watch will die by the time you get back.

How bad is it? When I did a Google search for “WearOS,” the first two questions in the People Also Ask box were “Is Wearos good” and “Is WearOS dead?” 

Pretty much the only major company using WearOS is the Fossil Group, which sells smartwatches under half a dozen brands — Misfit, Skagen, Armani Exchange, Diesel, Emporio Armani, and Michael Kors. All of those smartwatches are powered by the Qualcomm 3100 chip, which came out in 2018. 

I can see why Fossil chose WearOS, and why it’s tempting for Samsung; it’s much easier and cheaper to create a myriad of cases when you can standardize the internal components. It’s like buying a Toyota Camry, but being able to select from dozens of trim packages. 

I also get that, because WearOS has the weight of Google behind it, more developers have are likely to develop apps for the platform. Plus, you can link it with all of Google’s apps, as well as Google Assistant. 

But, because of this standardization, you don’t see any innovation within WearOS; slap a bejeweled bezel on a watch, price it at $350, and call it a day. 

In the past year or so, Apple, Fitbit, Garmin, and Samsung have all brought out a myriad of new health and fitness-tracking features such as SP02 tracking, blood oxygen monitoring, skin temperature sensors, and more. Meanwhile, on WearOS devices, you get... a heart rate monitor, a feature you can find on $25 fitness trackers. 

Like the WearOS processors, it took two years — from 2018 to late 2020 — for Google to come up with any meaningful update to WearOS. While Google did acquire Fitbit, the deal only concluded last month, so its doubtful we’d see any integration for a while. Let's just hope that Google won't do to Fitbit what Fitbit did to Pebble. 

For me, though, it all comes back to battery life. The greater endurance of the Samsung Galaxy Watch over WearOS smartwatches is a real competitive advantage, as is the integration with its smartphones. And, as the second-largest smartphone maker in the world, having that tight compatibility helps. 

It’s been pretty clear that Google doesn’t give the time of day to its smartwatch WearOS. Neither should Samsung.

Taejong Jay Yang, senior vice president at Samsung Electronics, said consumers are buying wearable products that they can use to check their health during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Although a majority of consumers plan to spend less this year due to the pandemic, wearable device sales have grown by 30% or more compared to last year,” Yang told Chery Kang, in a CNBC interview as part of the annual East Tech West conference.

“What this data indicates is that even when millions of consumers are re-evaluating their spending habits, they continue to prioritize wearable technology products over others,” Yang added. “Samsung will continue to invest in these advanced technologies.”

Wearables are expected to grow to an almost $70 billion market globally by 2025, according to market research firm IDTechEx, with the dominant sector being healthcare — which includes medical, fitness and wellness.

Competition in the sector is intense, as Samsung jostles with U.S. competitors — Apple and Google among them — in the market for smartwatches and fitness bands. The smartwatch market alone has become more competitive — nearly doubling in size to $13 billion in three years, according to market research firm Euromonitor.

Samsung Electronics debuted the Galaxy Watch3 this year. The device includes a blood oxygen monitor, as well as features for sleep and blood pressure.

Samsung sees those health functions as a “key strength” for its wearable devices. With the “data collected we can create a lot of great services and products for consumers to help them live healthier lives,” Yang said.

The company will continue to set up partnerships with other healthcare firms to make products, Yang said.

This year, Samsung partnered with AIA Korea on the life insurer’s healthcare app — called AIA Vitality. The app encourages people to lead healthy lifestyles by offering insurance discounts.

Forbes: More and more smartwatch manufacturers are moving away from the Android Wear

The rollercoaster of 2020 tech news has produced one more unexpected turn: the rumoured OnePlus Watch won’t be powered by Google’s Wear OS (ex-Android Wear). 

The news comes from reliable OnePlus leaker Max Jambor, who tweeted this weekend that the new wearable won’t carry Google’s software. Jambor later confirmed to 9To5Google that it won’t even use a skinned or modified version of Wear OS.

If accurate, OnePlus is headed in an entirely new direction for its first smartwatch. There’s good reason or this, too. Not only is there plenty of space for a competing wearable OS (in a way there isn’t for a new smartphone OS), it also means OnePlus can have the freedom to build the watch experience from the ground up, without being constrained by Google’s struggling platform. 

The features offered by Samsung’s TIZEN-powered Galaxy Watch 3 and Apple's Watch OS-powered Apple Watch far outstrip what’s on offer from Android-based wearables. Features like fall detection, comprehensive and in-depth health and fitness monitoring and extreme stuff - like blood oxygen sensors - aren’t widely available on Wear OS devices, if at all. The simple reality is that Apple and Samsung are pushing the industry forward and offering value for money based on an roll-call of new features.    

The question is: which way will the OnePlus Watch go?

Probably the new watch will follow OnePlus’ recent switch to cheaper products and dramatically undercut the competition. Especially in light of the current difficult economic circumstances. That might mean the device doesn’t pack high-end features like an ECG test or blood oxygen monitoring. But the move to using its own OS means we’ll almost certainly see some unique OnePlus-style abilities. 

The Chinese company has been quite open about its plans to build a connected suite of products, including TVs, headphones, a range of phones and now a watch. We’ll have to see what the Chinese company brings to the wearables table when the watch launches, which is rumoured to be next year.

Thus, there is a clear trend towards further marginalization of Android in the smartwatch business, despite some recent improvements to the OS. Many experts believe that even the possible purchase of Fitbit, one of the major manufacturers of wearable electronics, will not help Google to make Android Wear the dominant platform, as was the case with smartphones and tablets.

According to South Korean media reports, Samsung's newest wearables have garnered much more interest among local buyers than the flagship Galaxy Note20 smartphones.
Statistical services state an unprecedented demand for such gadgets as the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live.
In the first two weeks after the announcement of the new devices on Samsung's Internet platforms, 60,000 Galaxy Watch 3 and 300,000 Galaxy Buds Live were sold in South Korea. This is several times more than was realized at the start of sales of the previous generation models. Samsung has never achieved such results before.
Curiously, these bestsellers run on the TIZEN operating system, which is being developed by Samsung.
At the same time, the most current smartphones of the Galaxy Note20 series, which went on sale on the same days, cannot boast of such impressive results. The demand for them was lower than for the previous models of the Galaxy Note10 series. And this is not surprising, since smartphones run on someone else's Android (Google) operating system, which does not allow you to use your own original solutions and puts Samsung devices on a par with the closest Chinese competitors.

Научно-исследовательский центр Samsung Electronics в России (Samsung Research Russia) в сотрудничестве с компанией «Моторика», разработали систему управления высокотехнологичными протезами конечностей при помощи носимых устройств Galaxy Watch.
При поддержке инженеров Samsung была реализована интеграция носимых устройств в роботизированный бионический протез «Моторики». Это позволило использовать функции Galaxy Watch и возможности платформы TIZEN для управления протезами. В частности, команда «Моторики» при помощи Bluetooth-соединения между протезом и гаджетом обеспечила возможность подзарядки часов от батареи протеза. В работе над этим решением также приняли участие специалисты из Университета ИТМО в Санкт-Петербурге.
В рамках сотрудничества было создано два вида протезов: тяговый, в котором Galaxy Watch будет передавать телеметрию об активности пациента в «облако», и роботизированный бионический. Устройство второго типа получило собственное управление через электро-миографический датчик, измеряющий усилие мышц, что позволяет регулировать сжатие руки и захват пальцев. Управление протезом выведено на Galaxy Watch, где можно регулировать порог срабатывания ЭМГ-датчика, сжатие-разжатие и блокировку схвата, управлять протезом с помощью безеля, а также получить доступ к общему информационному экрану с отображением текущих настроек и состояния протеза.
В дальнейшем компании намерены расширить доступные функции управления бионическими протезами. В их планы входит доработка приложения для отправки данных технической телеметрии на сервера компании, исследование применимости инерциальных датчиков носимого устройства Samsung для дополнения системы управления протезом, и интеграция системы питания часов в общую силовую сеть протеза. Помимо этого, разработчики проведут тестирование с участием пользователей для оценки реального удобства и различных UX-сценариев.

The TIZEN-powered Samsung Galaxy Watch is integrated into smart prostheses

Samsung Research Russia, in collaboration with the local company Motorika, has developed a system for managing high-tech prosthetic limbs using Galaxy Watch wearable devices.
With the support of Samsung engineers, the integration of wearable devices into the Motorika robotic bionic prosthesis was implemented. This made it possible to use the capabilities of the Galaxy Watch and the TIZEN operating system to control prostheses. In particular, the Motorika's team, using a Bluetooth connection between the prosthesis and the gadget, made it possible to recharge the watch from the prosthesis battery. Specialists from ITMO University in St. Petersburg also took part in the work on this decision.
Within the framework of cooperation, two types of prostheses were created: traction, in which the Galaxy Watch will transmit telemetry about the patient's activity to the cloud service, and robotic bionic.
The device of the second type received its own control through an electro-myographic sensor that measures the muscle force, which allows you to regulate the compression of the hand and the grip of the fingers. The control of the prosthesis is displayed on the Galaxy Watch, where you can adjust the EMG sensor response threshold, compression-unclenching and locking of the gripper, control the prosthesis with the bezel, and also access the general information screen displaying the current settings and the status of the prosthesis.
In the future, the companies intend to expand the available functions for managing bionic prostheses. Their plans include finalizing the application for sending technical telemetry data to the company's servers, studying the applicability of inertial sensors of a Samsung wearable device to complement the prosthesis control system, and integrating the watch power system into the general power network of the prosthesis.   
In addition, developers will conduct user-driven testing to assess real-world usability and various UX scenarios.

The Motorika company is a developer and manufacturer of robotic functional hand prostheses with an individual design. The number of the company's clients is more than 1000 people in 11 countries of the world.By 2021, the company's specialists intend to develop artificial muscles for fine motor skills of fingers with artificial intelligence-based control, and by 2025, to create a robotic prosthesis with mobility identical to the motor ability of the hand.
