На TIZEN-устройствах Samsung можно будет запускать голосовой помощник от Google

Известно, что Samsung начал разработку собственного интеллектуального помощника Bixby гораздо позже, чем главные конкуренты в лице Google, Amazon  и Apple. А поскольку чудес не бывает, то вряд ли стоило ожидать, что Bixby удастся сравняться с Google Assistant и Alexa в кратчайший период. Именно поэтому на смарт-акустику производства HARMAN (дочернее подразделение Samsung Electronics) устанавливаются, в первую очередь, американские решения. Кроме того, Samsung допускает запуск голосового ассистента Google на своих Android-смартфонах наряду с Bixby.
Очевидно, что конечной целью южнокорейского техногиганта остаётся доведение собственного интеллектуального помощника до совершенства, чтобы он мог свободно общаться с людьми на разных языках, без запинки отвечать на поставленные вопросы и выполнять команды, связанные с управлением "умным домом". Но поскольку Bixby ещё не говорит на всех распространённых языках мира, в Samsung идут на компромисс с главными конкурентами, инсталлируя их решения в свои девайсы.
Так, например, задержка выхода высококлассной смарт-колонки Galaxy Home, по мнению экспертов, связана с тем, что в корпорации решили не повторять провальный старт акустической системы HomePod от Apple, где камнем преткновения стала "туповатая" Siri. Мало кому захотелось раскошелиться на довольно значительную сумму в несколько сотен долларов лишь ради того, чтобы прослушивать музыку. На рынке достаточно аналогичных предложений за гораздо меньшие деньги. Даже фанаты Apple не нашли в Siri никаких особенностей, которые могли бы выделить её на фоне продуктов Google и Amazon, решив воздержаться от покупки.
Samsung, который выходит на рынок с подобным продуктом позже основных соперников, желает избежать фальстарта. Эксперты полагают, что в настоящее время там работают либо над радикальным улучшением Bixby, либо решают вопрос о возможности инсталляции продукта от Google. Но поскольку почти вся техника Samsung работает на собственной операционной платформе TIZEN, требуется некоторое время, чтобы "пересадить" Google Assistant на эту ОС.

Samsung's TIZEN devices will be able to launch Google's voice assistant

Samsung’s Galaxy Home smart speaker has missed its April launch date. The company, however, says that the device will still ship in the first half of the year but hasn’t offered any explanation for the delay.
First announced way back in August during the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the Samsung Galaxy Home was supposed to ship in April. However, we are now nearly into the middle of May and the device is mysteriously nowhere to be seen. Speaking to The Verge, the Korean giant didn’t offer any reason for the delay but said that it would still ship in the first half of 2019.
The Galaxy Home is targeted at Apple’s high-end HomePod and is styled accordingly. It also has its audio tuned by Samsung acquisitions AKG and Harmon, so it should offer excellent sound. The weak point, however, as with Apple’ Siri-powered HomePod will undoubtedly be its Bixby voice recognition. It is probable that this will be the main reason for the hold up as Samsung knows that this will be one of the first things reviewers will be targeting in their reviews.
Samsung, could, however compensate for Bixby’s obvious weaknesses by giving users the option to use Google’s Assistant. It wouldn’t surprise to see the Galaxy Home launch with Google Assistant as this would undoubtedly boost its utility and negate potential criticism for the device. That said, Google Assistant would need to be tailored to run on Samsung’s homegrown TIZEN OS, which powers the Galaxy Home, not Android.
At the same time, information was received that the latest generation of smart watches, which also uses TIZEN, may soon receive the GAssist application, which will also launch Google Assistant if the device owner is not satisfied with Bixby's capabilities. GAssist beta testing has already begun.

На сегодняшний день известно, что Galaxy Home Mini поддерживает беспроводную связь Bluetooth 4.2. В спикер интегрирован голосовой ассистент Bixby 2.0, который позволит управлять бытовой техникой "умного дома", отвечать на вопросы владельцев и воспроизводить различный аудиоконтент по запросу.
Samsung упростил конструкцию более доступной по цене смарт-колонки по сравнению с Galaxy Home. В частности, гаджет лишится сабвуфера и нескольких микрофонов. Скорее всего новое устройство поступит на рынок в чёрном варианте цветового исполнения.
Samsung уже давно мог начать продажи своих умных спикеров, однако дожидается разработки конкурентоспособной версии ПО Bixby, чтобы активнее противостоять лидерам в этом сегменте (Amazon и Google). Эксперты полагают, что Samsung хочет выпустить Galaxy Home/Home Mini после того, как Bixby начнёт поддерживать все наиболее распространённые языки. В настоящее время Bixby умеет общаться на английском, корейском, китайском, немецком, французском и итальянском. В ближайшей перспективе голосовой помощник должен научится понимать и русский. Samsung Galaxy Home Mini leaks online

The Samsung Galaxy Home has been coming for a long time now, first announced in August 2018 alongside the Galaxy Note 9. Samsung’s website only lists it as “coming soon,” but it might be joined by another smart speaker.
According to the Bluetooth SIG website, Samsung is working on an “AI speaker” called the Galaxy Home Mini. The website doesn’t give us much more to go on, other than its model number (SM-V310) and Bluetooth 4.2 support.
Judging by the Mini name, it looks like the Korean brand is hoping to take on the Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot. Amazon and Google’s tiny speakers usually retail for $50, so don’t be surprised if the Galaxy Home Mini comes in at a similar price-point.
Samsung’s speaker use the company’s Bixby voice assistant, which promises over 3,000 voice commands. The company will have a mighty stiff challenge convincing users to leave the Amazon and Google smart home ecosystem though. In fact, a recent report found that 97% of U.S. smart speaker owners stick to one brand.
Samsung clearly needs to offer a compelling reason to switch, or target countries that haven’t experienced major smart speaker adoption just yet.

Bixby 2.0: The Start of the Next Paradigm Shift in Devices

SDC 2017 (San Francisco, october 18): Eui-Suk Chung, Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President and Head of the Service Intelligence Team, offered attendees a peek at Bixby 2.0 – an update of the intelligent assistant that’s even more ubiquitous, open and personal.

Today at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2017 in San Francisco, I was honored to share Samsung’s vision for intelligence, with the introduction of Bixby 2.0 – a powerful intelligent assistant platform that will bring a connected experience that is ubiquitous, personal, and open.  Bixby 2.0 will be a fundamental leap forward for digital assistants and represents another important milestone to transform our digital lives.
Today’s assistants are useful, but ultimately still play a limited role in people’s lives. People use them to set timers and reminders, answer trivial questions, etc. We see a world where digital assistant play a bigger role, an intelligent role, where one day everything from our phones, to our fridge, to our sprinkler system will have some sort of intelligence to help us seamlessly interact with all the technology we use each day.
To understand where we are going with devices, it is important to understand how far we’ve come. It is hard to believe, when you think back to just a decade ago, how we used our phones. It was likely a feature phone, which was primarily used to make calls and use a limited number of apps. But I knew, we at Samsung knew, that there were greater possibilities for the mobile phone. During the early and mid-2000, I led the team at Samsung in creating the Mobile Intelligent Terminal by Samsung (MITs), which was an early generation of smartphones before the Galaxy S and Note series were finally born. Powered by open API, application eco-system and innovative touch UI, smartphone market has, ever since then, exploded and became a life-essential tool for everyone. It also brought new opportunities for businesses and developers.
I believe that we are now on the cusp of the next major tectonic shift. With our long legacy as the global smartphone leader, we’ve been bringing meaningful innovation and driving digital transformation for the industry, and we are excited to help lead the change during another revolutionary moment. Personally, I am excited to be part of this next great era and this shift is one of the reasons why we are motivated to continue to develop our intelligent assistant, Bixby.
We introduced Bixby to the world earlier this year with the launch of our flagship mobile devices, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the Note 8. Bixby is now available in over 200 different countries, with more than 10 million registered users. But this is just a start. When we launched Bixby, we focused on how it could help people with getting the most out of their smartphones and apps to make their life easier. We integrated a few close partner applications on the device to make those devices more intelligent. We created multi-step, and cross-app capabilities that have allowed more than millions of Bixby users get things done faster and easier, but it is just a stepping stone for us.
Now, we are ready to take Bixby to the next level. Bixby 2.0 is a bold reinvention of the platform. A reinvention aimed at transforming basic digital assistants from a novelty to an intelligence tool that is a key part of everyone’s daily life.
Bixby 2.0 will be ubiquitous, available on any and all devices. This means having the intelligence of Bixby, powered by the cloud, act as the control hub of your device ecosystem, including mobile phones, TVs, refrigerators, home speakers, or any other connected technology you can imagine. Soon, developers will be able to put their services on any and all devices and will not have to reinvent their services each time they support a new device.
It will be more personal, with enhanced natural language capabilities for more natural commands and complex processing, so it can really get to know and understand not only who you are, but who members of your family are, and tailor its response and actions appropriately.
And finally, and most importantly, Bixby 2.0 will be open. We know Samsung cannot deliver on this paradigm shift by ourselves – it can only happen if we all, across all industries, work together, in partnership. With Bixby 2.0, the doors will be wide open for developers to choose and model how users interact with Bixby in their services across all application domains e.g., sports, food, entertainment, or travel – the opportunities are truly endless.
Starting today, we’re announcing our first private beta program with Bixby SDK, which will be available for select developers. We will work as one team, innovating, collaborating, and bringing Bixby 2.0 to life. Over time, we will increase the number of participants in the beta, and ultimately make the Bixby SDK available to all developers.
Bixby 2.0 will ultimately be a marketplace, for intelligence. A new channel for developers to reach users with their service, not just on mobile devices, but through all devices. Over time, we will rollout variety of revenue models to maximize our partners’ business opportunities in this new paradigm. Hopefully making it as fruitful as the move from feature to smartphones was for our partners.

На официальном новостном ресурсе корпорации опубликована статья вице-президента подразделения Samsung Smart Appliances and Home IoT Санг-ги Ку (Sunngy Koo), где он изложил планы южнокорейского техногиганта относительно развития технологий IoT (Интернета вещей) и перехода на следующий уровень путём внедрения систем искусственного интеллекта (AI).
Один из топ-менеджеров Samsung отмечает, что с момента появления первых систем искусственного интеллекта в 50-х годах XX века, основанных на компьютерных вычислениях, мировая наука осуществила настоящий прорыв в области обработки большого объёма данных и глубокого обучения. Особенно прогресс стал заметен в последние 20 лет, после того как суперкомпьютер IBM Deep Blue обыграл тогдашнего чемпиона мира по шахматам Гарри Каспарова.
А совсем недавно программа искусственного интеллекта, разработанная Google DeepMind, одолела действующего чемпиона мира по сверхсложной древнекитайской игре го.
При разработке системы AlphaGo авторы использовали лишь самую элементарную теорию игры в го, но программа достигла высокого уровня, самостоятельно обучаясь на партиях профессионалов. Таким образом, её методы машинного обучения могут быть использованы в других областях применения искусственного интеллекта. В частности, команда разработчиков планирует применить опыт, полученный при написании AlphaGo, для создания системы медицинской диагностики.
В своей статье топ-менеджер Samsung отмечает, что несмотря на столь впечатляющие достижения, существуют очень серьёзные проблемы, препятствующие развитию AI-технологий, в том числе отсутствие достаточного количества талантливых специалистов в этой области. AI – Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going?

Since it was first envisioned in the 1950s, AI has made a palpable impact on our lives, giving us practical speech recognition, more effective web search and self-driving cars, among other innovations.
Earlier this month, Google’s AlphaGo AI program made news by mastering the ancient Chinese board game Go in just three days without any human assistance. This major advance comes just two decades after Deep Blue crushed chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, illustrating that AI has not only come a long way in a short time, but is on track to creating unthinkable opportunities across all industries that will add new value to our lives.
The recent explosion in AI is enabled by a number of factors including a wider availability of GPUs, virtually infinite amounts of data, and more advanced machine and deep learning algorithms. Additionally, investments in AI have tripled from $26 billion in 2013 to $39 billion in 2016, further propelling the development of new intelligent technologies.
Despite these advancements, there are very real challenges that are hindering the development of AI technologies, including the lack of the required talent pool in the AI industry. Furthermore, many device manufacturers haven’t quite figured out how to best optimize the user data they receive from their sensor-equipped products. As a result, enterprises struggle to determine what AI is capable of and what kind of value it can bring to consumers.

Bixby – Bringing New Value into the Smart Home

Samsung, too, has contemplated how AI can deliver real value to its users, and in doing so have developed Bixby, a bold reinvention of its intelligent interface that’s even more ubiquitous, open and personal. Powered by the Samsung Connect, Bixby will act as the controlling platform of your connected device ecosystem, including mobile phones, TVs and even home appliances to make the smart home experience even smarter.
In fact, we are adding Bixby Voice to our Family Hub refrigerator. Now, you will be able to check the weather, build shopping lists and order groceries with the power of your voice. So, for example, if you were running low on milk, you would just say, “Hi Bixby, order milk” to order food directly from the screen.
The integration of Bixby Voice and Samsung Connect into the Family Hub refrigerator marks a big step – one that will offer developers tremendous opportunities to develop new content, applications and experiences in areas such as food, health, home management, entertainment and more.
We think this could be the fourth wave, where you have programmable objects dispersed throughout your entire home, seamlessly connected and communicating in a personalized and intuitive manner. In this way, we are moving beyond simply connecting devices to the Internet and are taking the next step by connecting devices to intelligence. This new era is what we are calling the “Intelligence of Things.”

Samsung Electronics объявляет о новых возможностях функции распознавания голоса с помощью вычислительных модулей холодильников Family Hub: опция будет доступна в Европейских странах во второй половине года. Кроме того, вендор представил новый функционал для «умного дома» в приложении Samsung Connect на IFA 2017 в Берлине.

Samsung Electronics Expands the Smart Features of the Family Hub Refrigerator

Voice recognition and the “Samsung Connect” smart home service will be introduced, and more than 100 partnership services worldwide will enhance the consumer experience

Samsung Electronics announced today that it will expand the voice recognition function of the Family Hub refrigerator to European countries in the second half of this year. It will also introduce the “Samsung Connect” smart home feature for the first time at IFA 2017.
Samsung has already applied cloud-based voice features to the Family Hub in Korea and the U.S., and will add European languages on a phased basis this year, starting with British English, German, French, and Italian.
“Samsung has continuously enhanced the Family Hub since its first introduction at CES 2016, focusing on improving consumer lifestyles,” said JS Park, Executive Vice President of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our endeavor to advance the smart features of home appliances has always been closely tied to our mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individual consumers and families with innovations that matter.”
In addition to touch command, the Family Hub’s voice capabilities provide a new way to interact with the refrigerator. Users can ask for the time and weather updates, search the internet, read news articles, play music and radio, add items to their shopping list, and even view inside of the refrigerator without opening the door.
Standing at the center of the home, Family Hub is now ready to help households take control of their various Samsung smart devices. Samsung Connect enhances this as a platform capable of connecting and controlling IoT devices regardless of their operating system, such as Android or iOS. Samsung Connect is now integrated into the Family Hub.
Users will be able to turn on and monitor their AddWashTM washing machine, or tell their POWERbotTM vacuum cleaner to begin cleaning up the living room from Family Hub’s interactive screen while cooking or entertaining in the kitchen.
Furthermore, Samsung continues to grow Family Hub’s partner ecosystem with innovative new services and content. More than 100 partner companies collaborate with Samsung’s Family Hub platform across North America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific. As an example, Instacart, Shoprite and FreshDirect provide consumers in the U.S. with seamless e-Commerce shopping experiences. European versions of the Samsung Family Hub feature European retailers like Supermercato24 and Eataly to provide grocery shopping.
For news and entertainment, consumers around the world can enjoy their favorite music on various music streaming services like Spotify, or stay up-to-date with the latest news via NPR or upday. Samsung и Harman договорились использовать принадлежащие им технологии совместно, что значительно ускорит прогресс их бизнеса и прорыв в новые сферы.

Это будет первый совместный продукт Samsung и Harman, в которых оба партнёра применят свои самые передовые разработки. Подробностей Пэливал не раскрыл, но отметил, что будущая смарт-акустика позволит управлять практически любыми подключёнными IoT-устройствами Samsung, а также она предоставит доступ к огромному количеству сервисов. Harman CEO: Samsung will outdo Google, Amazon with AI speaker

Closer cooperation with Harman International, a new Samsung Electronics affiliate, looks to be crucial for the tech giant to launch an “unbeatable” artificial intelligence device next year, with the chiefs of the two firms holding a closed-door meeting at the IFA 2017 in Berlin.
On Friday, Yoon Boo-keun, president and CEO of the consumer electronics business at Samsung Electronics, held a confidential meeting with Harman CEO Paliwal at a private venue set up by Harman exclusively for distributors and business partners. The closed-door meeting took more than half an hour.
Dinesh Paliwal, CEO of Harman International, told The Korea Herald after the meeting that the talks included the ongoing collaboration on the development of the upcoming Samsung AI speaker.
“A significant level of joint research and development of the device is underway,” Paliwal said. “The Samsung speaker will have a better AI platform than Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.”
The Harman CEO stressed that the Samsung speaker would be a complete platform that supports operations of all kinds of home appliances and mobile devices, the ultimate goal of which is to establish an AI ecosystem. 
Paliwal expressed confidence in the first product to be co-developed by Samsung and Harman since the US audio and car electronics maker was acquired by Samsung for $8 billion in March. 
It was the biggest M&A project led by Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong to secure a new growth engine for the world’s largest provider of chips, handsets and home appliances. 
“What we are going to launch will be a whole new ecosystem,” Paliwal said. “It will be a platform that will be able to connect all devices and home appliances.” 
Paliwal added he would visit Seoul in October for meetings with top Samsung officials on the operation and management issues of Harman. 
Yoon and Paliwal’s meeting came a day after Yoon held a press conference, pledging to launch an unrivaled AI device next year but also expressing “devastation” about the absence of Lee Jae-yong, the de facto leader of the conglomerate who has been sentenced to five years in jail for bribery.
Yoon on Friday also took an hourlong tour of booths at the 160,000-square-meter Messe Berlin by Samsung’s partners and competitors, including Miele, Bosch, Toshiba, Sony and Loewe, before reaching Harman’s private venue. The Harman room, located outside of the main exhibition hall, was closed to the press and the public.
Yoon and Paliwal looked around Harman’s exhibition and moved to an observatory at the Funkturm Berlin Radio Tower located next to the Harman venue for private business talks.
Being aware of the limited growth potential of the premium smartphone market, Samsung has been preparing to jump into the car electronics market. 
Once the Samsung-Harman AI platform hits the market, it will bring nearly all objects to an unprecedented level of connectivity, Paliwal said after their talks. 
Commenting that Samsung is already a company “better than Google and Microsoft” with sophisticated home appliances and wireless products and services, Paliwal said it would be unbeatable when the Samsung AI ecosystem was created.

Подразделение Samsung Mobile начало распространение программного обновления всех функций своего интеллектуального помощника Bixby: Bixby Voice, Bixby PLM, Bixby Wakeup, Bixby Dictation и Bixby Global Action. Обновление уже могут получить владельцы топовых смартфонов Samsung последних поколений в таких странах как Великобритания, ЮАР, Индия, Нидерланды и Германия. До конца текущего года следует ожидать прихода обновления и для России.
Пользователи из Германии сообщают, что там уже начала работать функция голосового набора.
В июле южнокорейский техногигант начал распространение Bixby Voice в США по программе бэта-тестирования. До этого полная функциональность виртуального помощника была доступна только в Южной Корее.
Напомним, что персональный помощник Bixby состоит из 3-х основных частей. Bixby Voice отвечает за голосовое управление, Bixby Vision позволяет определить, что именно запечатлено на фотографии, а Bixby Home — это "стартовый" экран, на котором собраны ярлыки, открывающие доступ к основным возможностям помощника.
Также необходимо отметить, что Samsung планирует запустить Bixby на всех своих интеллектуальных устройствах. Samsung To Roll Out Bixby Globally On August 22

It seems that Samsung’s AI-powered digital assistant, Bixby, will roll-out globally starting on August 22. The information came from an advertisement posted by the South Korean tech giant on Facebook. The ad shows a picture of the Samsung Galaxy S8 with the phrase “Get ready for a smarter way to use your phone” with the date August 22. The Bixby logo is also visible in the teaser, which clearly confirms that the content of the ad is pertaining to the personal assistant.
This news comes a few days after the South Korean smartphone manufacturer has rolled out several core Bixby apps to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus units worldwide. Among the applications that were deployed include the Bixby PLM, Bixby Global Action, Bixby Wakeup, and Bixby Dictation. These applications were already rolled out and installed on many devices but the tech firm has yet to activate the services through its servers. If this information is correct, these services will likely be activated on August 22.
It has been months since the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has been released yet the manufacturer has to activate its voice assistant in most of its devices. Until now, the only countries where this feature is working are in South Korea and the United States. The key reason behind the delay is the lack of data necessary to make the AI work. Digital assistants need a lot of information to predict future actions and understand the intricacies of languages. Now that all of these concerns have been seemingly sorted, owners of Samsung’s most recent flagship devices will now experience the key features that Bixby offers. The assistant can be activated by simply saying “Hi, Bixby”. Once it is activated, users may now instruct the assistant to do complex actions like grouping images captured from a holiday vacation. Another important feature of Bixby Voice is quick commands, which allows the user to shorten multi-step requests using a single word or a short phrase. Bixby Vision is also available to owners of the Samsung flagships. Using this feature, users may identify items, search for information, and translate sentences using the handset’s camera app.

В новой беспроводной гарнитуре применяется специальная технология, которая минимизирует паразитные внешние шумы. Это так называемая «технология блокировки шумов», которая выделяет голос пользователя на фоне всех остальных. Это необходимо для того, чтобы искусственный интеллект смог чётко распознавать голосовые команды даже посреди многолюдной улицы или в вагоне метро. 
Известно, что новая технология блокировки шума, предложенная южнокорейскими инженерами, основана на алгоритмах работы человеческого мозга, который способен "отсекать" сотни "ненужных" окружающих голосов и прислушиваться лишь к тому собеседнику, который интересует его в данный момент. Как сообщается, компания Apple, которая уже выпустила подобное устройство, не обладает столь эффективным решением.

Samsung Electronics Starts Developing Earset for Bixby

Samsung Electronics and a small and medium South Korean company started developing Bluetooth earset for Samsung Electronics’ AI (Artificial Intelligence) voice assistant called ‘Bixby’. It is likely that this earset will be released at the same time when Galaxy Note 8 is released in September.
It is heard that Samsung Electronics has started doing tests that link and optimize Bixby with Bluetooth earset solution that is developed by a small and medium South Korean company since beginning of this month.
Samsung Electronics has not decided on whether it will provide earset as a bundle with a Smartphone or sell it as a separate accessory. It seems that this earset will be released as earset exclusively for Bixby.
Earset for Bixby is applied with a special technology that minimizes malfunction of a device that might occur due to surrounding noise. Its major technology is called ‘Noise Blocking technology’ that only draws voice from a user even when his or her voice is mixed with other noise.
It is heard that Noise Blocking technology is called a new Noise Cancelling technology that utilizes human body which is not applied to Apple’s airpods.
Users will be able to obtain accurate answers from Bixby even when they are not close to their Smartphones and give commands through earsets.
Reason why Samsung Electronics started developing Bluetooth earset for Bixby is because it wants to establish long-term strategies for AI voice assistant markets and grab upper hands in markets for new input devices for Smartphones that are changing from touch-input device to voice-input device.
“When Bluetooth earsets for Bixby are released, we expect that they will be a great help in improving convenience level for users who are using our flagship Smartphones.” said a representative for Samsung Electronics. “Because it is not a model with exact release date, it is difficult for us to disclose any detailed information regarding current process.”
Bixby had gone through 4 software updates in just June alone after Galaxy S8 was released and it is a service that requires everything from Samsung Electronics. AI voice assistant technology from VIV Labs, which was acquired by Samsung Electronics in last October, will be applied to Galaxy Note 8’s Bixby and this is Samsung Electronics’ plan to implement services with better degree of completion.

"Двигателем" аппарата является 8-ядерный процессор Samsung Exynos 7880 (ARM Cortex-A53) с тактовой частостой 1,9ГГц и графический контроллер Mali-T830 MP3. На чипе также разместился сотовый LTE-модем Categoty 7, обеспечивающий скорость передачи данных до 300Мбит/с.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) has Bixby in South Korea

So far, we've seen Samsung's virtual assistant, Bixby, on its Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, and it's going to be built into the upcoming Galaxy Note8 too. July, 12th though Bixby has arrived on a mid-range device in Samsung's home country of South Korea.
We're talking about the Galaxy A7 (2017), a phone that just launched at SK Telecom (that's one of the Korean carriers). The version that SKT sells has Bixby on board, despite the fact that it doesn't feature a special physical button to launch it - this A7 (2017) is identical in terms of hardware to the version that was announced in January. It's just the software that's different, and that's where Bixby comes in.

В настоящее время разработка Innoetics поддерживает 19 языков, включая английский, греческий, немецкий, русский, болгарский, испанский, итальянский, польский, французский, шведский, немецкий, казахский и даже несколько диалектов хинди.

Samsung acquires Greek text-to-speech startup Innoetics for under $50M

With the launch of Bixby and reports that Samsung is building its own competitor to Amazon’s Echo, the consumer electronics giant has now made an acquisition that could help power its next generation of voice-powered services.
Samsung has acquired Innoetics, a startup out of Greece that has developed text-to-speech and voice-to-speech technology that can, among other things, listen to a person speaking, train on what that person is saying, and then read out a piece of completely unrelated text in that same voice.
“Samsung has agreed to acquire Innoetics,” the company told us in an emailed statement in response to our questions. “Samsung is always exploring ways to deepen our relationships with companies like Innoetics whose technologies present an opportunity to strengthen Samsung’s capabilities.”
Innoetics had been working primarily on B2B services up to now, with telcos and other businesses using its tech by way of a set of APIs. Innoetics has now posted a note on on the homepage of its website announcing  that these B2B services have now been discontinued.
It’s not clear yet what Samsung plans to do with the tech, but according to one person, “it is perfectly suited for consumer services.”
In other words, we could see it working with Bixby, or a new piece of hardware, or something for Samsung’s extensive mobile handset business, or all of the above. Or something else entirely different, given Samsung’s reach into so many other areas of consumer electronics. In any case, Samsung plans to keep Innoetics and its 8-10 employees (the higher number includes contractors) based in Athens as a subsidiary of its wider business.
Terms of the deal — which officially closed last Friday — have not been disclosed, but we understand that it’s one of the bigger exits for a tech startup in Greece. Sources tell us that Innoetics went for less than the amount Daimler paid for Taxibeat, an Uber rival that it acquired earlier this year for around €40 million ($43 million).
Samsung acquiring Innoetics follows other acquisitions it has made in the area of voice-based technology — namely, in October last year, Samsung bought the personal assistant startup Viv, which it used to help build Bixby.
(Samsung has incubated and acquired other kinds of tech, too, such as its recent move to pick up VRB, a VR startup that it funded and incubated in Samsung Next.)
Innoetics started as a spinout from the Athena Research and Innovation Center, a research institute in Athens that includes a department focused on speech and language processing. The Athena RIC announced the acquisition itself.
Notably, Innoetics was completely bootstrapped since being founded in 2006 by Aimilios Chalamandaris, Pirros Tsiakoulis, Sotiris Karabetsos, and Spyros Raptis. The company had actually been in the process of getting rebooted and was seeking VC funding when it first started talking to Samsung. Initially, conversations started around a potential partnership before the two entered into acquisition talks.
We have seen a huge boom in voice-powered technology, from personal assistants — not just Bixby, but Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and many more — to hardware like Google Home and Amazon’s Echo range, all of which are using innovations in machine learning and other AI tools, as well as advances in natural language processing, to become more and lifelike and useful.
Innoetics’ technology is an interesting complement to all of this. Many services today are built around single languages before getting adapted, slowly, to more; and they are all basically built around one familiar voice (recall the hot pursuit that finally found the “voice of Siri“). Innoetics currently supports not one but 19 different languages, including English and (naturally) Greek, German and several dialects of Hindi.
“The team has amazing foundational technology in text-to-speech,” says Mallios Kostas, an ex-Microsoftie from Seattle who had started working with the company six months ago as an advisor and ended up helping lead the sale to Samsung. He said Innoetics has “huge capabilities” to increase the languages covered by its tech, and was on track to double or even triple the base. “Their synthesized voices are so accurate you almost can’t tell the difference between it and the real voice.”
Longer term, this may also raise security questions, of course: the smarter AI gets, the more likely it is that malicious hackers and others might use it for nefarious ends, and one of those ends could be in areas like identity theft. Tracking and mimicking people’s voices could be an obvious component of that.
“As synthesized voice has become more human sounding, security is something that will need to be dealt with,” Mallois said. “We’re not quite there yet but I can guarantee that large companies are thinking about how to address that, too.”

Samsung limits Galaxy Note FE sales in Korea

Samsung Electronics on July 10 confirmed it has no plans to roll out more Galaxy Note FE - refurbished version of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 - in Korea despite the huge popularity since its debut last week. 
“We have no plans to roll out more Note FE phones in Korea,” a Samsung official said.
Samsung plans to sell only 400,000 units of the phone in Korea. Plans for its global launch have not yet been decided but sources say the phone could hit overseas markets later this month. 
Since the phone hit the market on July 7, the number of new mobile subscribers has surged to some 24,000 a day, compared to the average 15,000 in recent weeks. 
Even though telecom carriers do not reveal the standalone sales figure for Note FE, industry watchers believe most of the new customers are buying the latest Samsung phone considering there have been no new launches in recent weeks. 
Especially Blue Onyx and Blue Coral, the two most popular colors, are fast selling out at some retail shops. 
“The telecom market is getting revitalized thanks to the Note FE that is cheaper than premium phones but boasts high-end features,” said an official from a telecom company said. 
The Note FE comes with a price tag of 699,600 won (US$608), about 20 percent cheaper than the original Note 7. It sports almost all the same components fitted in the original Note 7 except the battery, which has been reduced from 3,500 mAh to 3,200 mAh.
Software-wise, the Note FE has received a couple of upgrades, including Samsung’s first artificial intelligence assistant Bixby and the Android Nougat operating system used in the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
Samsung said it would later decide whether it would sell the FE in other global markets, and some industry sources expect the global release of the phablet later this month.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 mobile processor is expected to be featured in the FE model for global markets.
