Да, раньше были так называемые "карусели", вбросы и фальсификации в ходе подсчёта голосов. Но всё это, по-возможности, старались делать украдкой, опасаясь огласки. Теперь же маски сброшены окончательно и власть показало своё мурло, что называется, "во всей красе". Нет больше ни стыда, ни совести, ни чести. Выборы превратились в абсолютный фарс, и, похоже, дело идёт к тому, что их вообще отменят за "ненадобностью". Путин в тот же день погружался в батискафе под воду, подальше от земных забот. Mr Putin was on a trip to the Baltic Sea on Saturday for a dive in a submersible. "There are a lot of problems on Earth, so to diminish their amount one has to go up and deep down," he remarked. Independent candidates urged Russians to keep up the fight, saying the country's future trajectory was at stake. “We are no longer talking about our mandates,” said would-be candidate Dmitry Gudkov. “If we lose now, elections will cease to exist as a political instrument and the repressive machine will push the country towards 1937,” Gudkov added, referring to the peak of Stalin's Great Terror. Over the past 20 years Putin has muzzled independent media and left opposition parties without representation in parliament. Navalny was not allowed to run against Putin in a 2018 poll because of a conviction in a fraud case which has been viewed as punishment for his activism. Local polls have been seen as the only legal opportunity for opposition politicians to have a say in Russia's political life. While pro-Kremlin candidates enjoyed the support of the state, independent candidates say they have been made to jump through countless hoops in order to get on the ballot. Each conducted a genuine campaign and collected roughly 5,000 signatures from supporters. Authorities still refused to register them, accusing them of faking some of the signatures ― including those of prominent people and their own relatives. Navalny ally Lyubov Sobol launched a hunger strike in protest. On Thursday, the 31-year-old demanded officials review her documents and threatened to continue her strike at the offices of the Moscow election commission. Instead, she was carried out of the building ― atop a couch. Officials later said they had to take the couch out to get rid of bedbugs. Critics say that instead of probing authorities for violating election legislation, investigators launched a probe into obstructing the work of election officials. For that offence protest organisers risk up to five years in prison. 'Absurdities become norm' Vedomosti said that Moscow was beginning to look like an Orwellian dystopia. Officials seek to convince people of the “honesty of their lies,” the daily said. “Over the past days the absurdities have become the norm.” Nearly 11,000 people indicated interest in the rally on Facebook. Police asked media to notify the authorities if they planned to cover the protest and urged Russians to skip the rally altogether. Viktoria Popova, a 30-year-old illustrator, said she could not miss the protest. “It is impossible not to come, it's impossible to feel powerless, unable to change anything,” she told AFP. “Who would have thought it would become important to take part in such a bizarre and boring affair as the Moscow parliament election?” ― AFP

Samsung usually starts operating its manufacturing facilities, including those for chips and displays, at full throttle a month before the launch of a flagship model, and then ramps up the smartphone production gradually as it works with more vendors for components. The company has been utilizing its own mobile processor Exynos and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon to power its smartphones, including Galaxy S and Note lineup. The Note 10 smartphone is scheduled to be unveiled on Aug. 7 at Samsung’s annual unpacked event in New York, and is expected to hit stores from Aug. 23 in the US and Korea. Samsung said the unpacked event will be held as planned, but did not unveil the official release date. Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who visited Japan to meet the company’s partners last week, is said to have called in the top brass of the tech firm, including chip business head Kim Ki-nam and display business chief Lee Dong-hoon, over the last weekend to discuss on how to response to the trade conflict. “The trade restrictions could negatively affect the Japanese materials industry as Korean tech firms are some of their major customers,” said Lee Su-bin, an analyst from Daishin Securities, forecasting that the Japanese government would not impose an export ban, as it could wreak havoc on the global chip and electronics industries. Samsung Electronics has started testing out hydrogen fluoride, or etching gas, made by companies based in countries other than Japan, sources said July 17. Japanese news outlet the Nikkei Asian Review said the Korean tech giant is in touch with suppliers elsewhere - most likely from China, Taiwan and Korea. “Samsung makes it a point to consider all available options, and chemicals from other manufacturers can be one of those options,” a Samsung official said. He declined to identify potential partners by name. Hydrogen fluoride, a fast-acting acid, is a chemical that is considered essential to the production of chips, as it is used both to clean chips and to etch circuits onto silicon wafers. Korean chipmakers, including Samsung and SK hynix, rely heavily on imports from Japan for this chemical, although they also source small quantities from China, Taiwan and Korea. But the Japanese-made chemical has been used for years and is recognized for its high quality. The etching gas from the alternative source is still in the testing phase and is not an adequate replacement in the short run, according to market watchers. It is expected to take at least six months to complete the testing process. The Japanese government has removed Korea from a “whitelist” under which it grants favored trade partners priority in carrying out streamlined export procedures. As a result, it is tightening regulations on the export of three types of chemicals - photoresists, hydrogen fluoride and fluorine polyimide, all of which are vital for the production of semiconductors or OLED displays. Samsung is the world’s largest producer of DRAM and NAND memory chips, as well as OLED displays, while the DRAM business is the mainstay of SK hynix. If the restrictions continue, Samsung’s plans to manufacture next-generation semiconductors, such as those based on 7-nanometer chip fabrication, could be hindered. The 7-nano chips are made with a technology called extreme ultraviolet lithography, which requires the use of photoresists. “Samsung is forecast to mass-produce 7-nano chips from the latter half of this year, and Japanese firm JSR seems to be the main supplier of photoresists,” said Lee Mi-hye, a researcher at the Export-Import Bank of Korea, adding, “JSR’s photoresists, produced in Belgium, are not subject to the current restrictions for now, but the foreign branches of Japanese firms could be regulated later.”

The latest leak is a new marketing render for the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2, showing the device in all its glory. Real life pictures of the device have already leaked, but they did not show the user interface. From those leaks we know however that the smartwatch will be available in 40 and 44mm sizes, feature a slightly refreshed look and includes hardware such as microphone and speaker (and a red button like on the Apple Watch) which suggests the device will be able to make phone calls. SamMobile previously confirmed there will be an LTE (340 mAh battery) and WIFI variant (237 mAh). The TIZEN-powered watch will run One UI 1.5. The leaked render also shows that the screen will feature a high resolution, once again shows the mysterious red button, and suggests that the watch will come with a leather band as standard. Rumours remain about the device possibly incorporating an ECG reader and fall detector, like the Apple Watch. The device will likely hit the market around the same time as the Samsung Galaxy Note10.

Aloknath De, Corporate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Samsung R&D Institute Bengaluru, speaks to Jonathan Ananda on how it intends to go about this initiative. Why do you think this is the right time to begin investing in the Indian start-up ecosystem? Samsung has been in India for 23 years and internally, we have made several commitments in R&D, factories, etc. From the beginning of the decade, we also began thinking about how to leverage the ecosystem and we started engaging with many start-ups. For example, when we rolled out our operating system TIZEN to different products, over 200 companies engaged with us in app building, etc. Then, we began working with them on a deeper level on products. Since we had begun ecosystem building and engagement at the product level, we believed this was the time to open up another dimension: strategic investment. How many start-ups do you plan to invest in? We aim to make 100 different investments in 5 years or so in a strategic fashion. At an average investment of between USD 1-5 million depending on what stage of development the start-up is in. There are definitely financial investors whom start-ups can tap for investments of such size, but, what they may not get from other sources is what we can offer them as a global technology company. In which areas is the company planning to invest in? We are looking into two things. First, deep tech companies, where we have a product and we want to build a solution… For example, gnani.ai is a speech recognition firm and that will be essential for any voice assistant kind of activity. The second area is services in spaces like mobile, health and insurance tech, vernacular content, consumer services, mobility solutions, etc. Are there any issues in this area that you believe need to be addressed at a policy level? One good thing in recent times has been the launch of initiatives like Start-up India, Stand Up India, etc. When you spend money, set aside a corpus for incubators, skill training, etc. When you give sufficient focus here, it definitely energises the space and we believe this has been going very well. Additionally, some of the pain points like angel tax are also getting addressed by the government. As far as our engagement with start-ups is concerned we have experienced a very amicable environment.
